An Absolute Must

We got the bus from the terminus beside the train station to Kriens and purchased our tickets for the gondola and cable car to the top of Pilatus. The weather was clear and the views were incredible. We had something to eat at the midway point before journeying to the top. It looks like something from a James Bond movie! Stunning views all round of the mountains and lake. Beware the birds looking for food which dive bomb people taking photos. By the time we were ready to leave the clouds had gathered and the views changed completely. Glad to have seen both. This is a must do trip.

The views are beautiful. Well developed to allow viewing from the top. Be sure and take the gondola down one way (or both) - beautiful!

Trip to Mount Pilatus

This is a beautiful trip to take. Did a self tour from Zurich to Lucerne, walked the old town and walked to Mt. Pilatus ticketing office. Get tickets reserved earlier and you should be good to go. The gondola, Fräkmüntegg, then cable car all the way to the top. Some of the attractions at Fräkmüntegg were closed due to rain. It was a clear day and was able to climb up the stairs to the top and view the mountain. The stairs are not that strong so need to be careful. Then took the Funicular back down to Kriens. Then took train to Zurich. Worth it and was peaceful and beautiful.

The views!

Oh my goodness, this was a highlight of our two week trip to Germany Austria and Switzerland. It’s easy to get to the top (cable car & ski lift) and once there, the views are absolutely amazing! It was busy but not crowded since there’s a few places to enjoy the view. There’s a nice restaurant and gift shop too.

Don’t miss the toboggan ride about halfway up using the cable car.Great fun.

We were there in May and we spent one day doing this with lunch at the hotel, outside, at the top. There is a round trip ticket on the gondola which has two stops going and coming. Your ticket is needed at each entrance and exit. The cog train wasn’t running due to snow. At the suggestion of the ticket person we stopped first at the roddlebahn - sleds going down a metal slide, like a toboggan. About $10 each, great fun. Then we got back on the cable car to the top. Outside the typical tourist shop and eating at the top is a hotel with inside and outside seating. We had drinks and shared fries. Beautiful view. Saw a paraglider take off from the top.

Great day

Amazing! All the way up in the cable cars was so breathtaking with the beautiful view of Luzern city, the lake and the mountains with beautiful landscapes, the walking to the peak though it was so windy and cold but it was worth it!! Walking in the cave is also a must!

Cable cars up 7000 feet

Holy cow this was fun! The cog railway was closed for the season and for refurbishing so we took the cable cars to the top. The first section is in a small car which seats up to four. Part of the way up, we stopped at a station to switch to a much larger car to travel to the summit. The cables up we at about a 45 degree angle, but the ride was smooth and not worrisome for my hates-heights self. There is a hotel at the top! Brave folks can ascend even further with stairs. This one of the best 2 or 3 excursions I have been on.

Lots of snow

The view was amazing , service was very good. Parking was cheap. Restaurants were amazing and clean.

Amazing!

Loved this! Spent about 5 hours doing this experience riding bus, cable car, toboggan, gondola and cog train. Highly recommend the toboggan ride. Too hot to hike but we did walk the dragon tail which gave spectacular views.

Mt. Pilatus trip was a bust due to inclement weather.

While the cable car experience was fine and the visitor center was nice, we did have a very good lunch there, I am rating this as a poor experience since we were 'in the clouds' and thus had no view at all. Yes that is the luck of the draw so far as weather goes. Once we were down and back at Lake Luzerne, weather was nice but oh well, that's how it goes.

Amazing Vistas!

The cable cars and the toboggan ride we very memorable Pinot Grigio in France. The views were fantastic and overall a great experience.

Incredible

It's impossible to describe the majesty and beautyof Mount Pilatus. It has to be experienced. Make sure you go all the way to the top!!

A must do when in Lucern

This was a spontaneous adventure and so glad we did it, and easy to get to by public transport (the bus). Mount Platius gondola ride cost us CHF 33.30 to go all the way to the top. Amazing and well worth the spend. It started to snow during the first stage of the gondola ride which was a real treat and by the top was totally white.

Must do if you stay in Lucerne!

This was definitely the highlight of our stay in Lucerne and we totally didn’t regret making this trip up to Pilatus. The views were breathtaking, and we enjoyed every single second at the peak. Highly recommended to all who spend at least 2 nights in Lucerne!

Well worth going.

Well worth it! We took three gondolas/ cable cars to the top. Fortunately, at 7k’ we were above the clouds so got a fantastic view. We had lunch in the Pilatus Hotel, excellent but not cheap! Despite the provision of sheepskins on the outside chairs it was too chilly to eat outside. The gondolas were very popular with dogs, amazed to see so many! A couple were playing alpine pipes at the top amongst the snow.

Beautiful views, great trip to the top of Mt Pilatus

We did this trip in May of 2023 and it was a spectacular day. Based on reviews we read, we did not book ahead because we wanted to be sure we went on a clear day. We were staying in Lucerne and with a little help from the front desk at our hotel, we took the public bus to the stop at the base of Mt. Pilatus. It was a short walk (maybe 10 minutes) to the site where you purchase your tickets for the cable car. We were on the cable car within a few minutes of arriving. I can't imagine you need to book this with an outside company. It is super easy and customer friendly. You can stop at one of the two lower sites (both lovely and fabulous picture taking spots) or go all the way to the top. If it is a clear day - absolutely go to the top. The views are breathtaking from every vantage point. We took the car back down to the second site and had lunch before taking it back down to the bottom and back to the bus into Lucerne. For us it was just a half day experience but other people were hiking and there were many families doing the adventure/high ropes course. You could absolutely make a full day of it. It was the highlight of our three days in Lucerne.

Take Your Chances with your GPS in the Swiss Alps

We spent hours going up and down one lane roads looking for the place we programmed into the gps to redeem the emailed voucher for an actual ticket! Don't just show up at the lift. Plus, reception in the mountains was horrible. We asked for a refund. They rejected it. I won't be using Viator again.

Amazing , highly recommend and worth every cent. Played in snow then looked at green country side. Loved it went to the top.

I had just gotten to...

I had just gotten to Europe at the beginning of a 5 plus week trip. Switzerland was my first trip as well as navigating my way from Basel to Lucerne for this excursion. Every thing went great with the exception of the weather, snowy whiteout conditions. This is uncontrollable though and still had fun. I would do it again My only concern was I thought I paid for the train down or tram which was not running at the time. Still cannot figure out if this was refunded

It was a very nice visit

The scenery was great! The rides were good Just dress warm since it had snow on top and needed covering up

Visibility problems

Cloudy, couldn’t see much. Trails closed. Cog railway closed too. May is not a good time to go. I don’t have anything else to say

The beauty of Switzerland never disappoints

We spent most of the day on Mount Pilatus and we had a fantastic time. Unfortunately, heavy cloud meant we could see very little at the top but by the time we took the cable car back down, the view of the lakes was stunning. We also had lunch in the restaurant, had fun on the toboggan ride and had a lovely two hour walk back to Kriens, offering some lovely views and the sound of nature. I gave 4 stars rather than 5 because you are literally only paying for cable car access and I'm not sure how the price equates to what you would pay at the entrance.

Great experience but not a tour

Great experience but you can save yourself a few euro by getting your tickets from the ticket office.

Worth visiting

What an absolutely stunning place. The whole cable car ride up was full of surprises and beauty. Up at the mountain, walking up to the peak was incredible. The cave trail walk was something very different. All in it was a very worthy trip to make.

From the top of Europe

The panoramas at the top of Mt Pilatus are without equal. You can see the entire Oberland and can watch or even participate in parasailing as well. Take the gondola up and see if you can find the Swiss Army installation

A wonderful experience. Even though it was a bit cloudy for part of the day the scenery was truly breathtaking. Definitely recommend this event.

Not to be missed.

To be able to reach the mountaintop is a once in a lifetime experience . It’s not cheap but nothin in Switzerland is. Absolutely worth it at least on a mostly clear day.

A must do activity.

Worth every euro! Comfort gondolas and very organized. And very safe. The food options at the top were very good. And the views are outstanding. The parking lot was price very well and it was safe with a clean bathroom

You're paying nearly 50% more for a lift ticket.

Being on the mountain was a terrific experience. The cost charged represents nearly 50% more than if you walked up to the ticket window and bought a pass. They describe it as a "self guided" tour implying there is more value than simply a lift ticket. There is not. Further, discounts are readily available at various places in Lucerne. After contacting Viator regarding this blatant overcharge, I was told it was the fault their partnering local provider. That is not with whom I booked. Viator said they would address the issue and get back with me. They did nothing. Ticketmaster would be proud of the margins Viator commands.

Great views, poor deal.

Great lift, great mountain but this is not a tour of any kind. It’s a lift ticket! One that can be purchased for $43 not the $65 charged by Viator. An honest to goodness rip off!

The entire experience was spectacular! We waited all our lives to see it. We are from USA and traveled to four countries on this trip. Mt Pilatus was the highlight of our adventure.

Breathtaking views but reserve *lots* of time and bring your own food!

The views here are stunning and well worth the trip up! Beautiful and exciting. A word of warning though for areas that need improvement: The line for the cable car at the bottom of the mountain took nearly an hour and a half. (In tourist low season). Then it's 30+ minutes up so allot tons of time for this attraction. Also once you get up to the top, there is *no* place to eat except a small kiosk that has coffee and pastries. The hotel had a small dining area but evidently they're only open for a few hours a day and wouldn't let people in. There were hundreds of people roaming around looking for something to eat but nothing available. With thousands of visitors a day, I would think management would try and meet basic food & beverage needs for visitors. :/ Otherwise, the views are breathtaking and despite the length of time to get up and down (it took us 5 hours total), it's worth it.

Trip to Mount Pilatus

Amazing trip on both the gondola and the cableway car which takes about 40 minutes to get to the top of Mt Pilatus at 2,128 metres. The day we took our trip was low cloud and snowing, but still worth the effort. Make sure you go on a sunny clear day for the best views! It can get very busy on the cars, so get there early and come back down the mountain before the rush at 3pm. There is a cafe at the top in the Hotel. Make sure you wrap up warm, there is no heating on either the gondolas or the cableway cars.

A must visit if the weather allows!

Amazing views and breathtaking scenery! This trip is easy to make from Zurich with very simple transfers to the bud and a 10min walk to the gondolas. All staff at the stations and gondolas are very helpful and even the locals helped when we seemed lost haha For me, a must see even if you visit. Though, ensure you check the weather! 👌🏼

Good way to see Mt. Pilatus but attractions were closed due to rain

This is a good way to visit Mt. Pilatus. With the golden circle you are with the crowd but we went the opposite direction of the crowd. We took the bus to Kriens, Sternmatt and it was very easy to walk to the gondola and exchange our voucher for a ticket. Unfortunately, it was raining so all the attractions were closed. Thus, we were only able to ride the gondola up and the cogwheel train down. Both were good. It was real easy to get off the cogwheel at Alpnahstad and walk a short distance to the boat and fortunately, the rain let up and we had a wonderful ride back to Lucerne with only 4 people on the boat.

Sunny day and views to match!

Awesome trip. Once you get to the top on the tram, hike the extra winding trail to the very top. Definitely worth the hike.

Breathtaking views, can see so many mountains in the distance! It’s worth it!

Smaller cable car ride on the way up which was better as it’s not overcrowded and not having to smell people’s fart in an otherwise big and full carriage. The whole experience was amazing. It was worth the trip up there. If you come from Alpnachstad and come back the same way instead of Kriens, you’ll the steepest cogwheel train ride in the world. So we’re told. But we parked our car in Kriens so did not do it.

One of a kind cogwheel ride! A must visit!

One of the most magical and unique experiences you will ever witness! As the cogwheel train keeps climbing, the views keep changing ever few yards. It takes around 45 minutes for the cogwheel train to take you to the summit. The stuff were very courtesy and kind. The summit views are breathtaking! An experience you will remember for a lifetime! I HIGHLY recommend this. P.S. You shouldn't worry if you have acrophobia or any variation of that. You are safe and will have an awesome time!!!

BAD TOUR

Wring advise we would have come back on the same cable car to the car park without the return train and buss journey. The dragon train was very slow nothing exciting the return train ticket was very expensive and after that buss journey and had walked bad tour need to give what is best but offered the worst

Beautiful day, relaxing and exhilarating

Plenty of activities on the second stop of the cable car. The toboggan ride was a blast! (Extra charge)

360 views

We took the cogwheel up and then back down. It would have been nice to do the boat, cogwheel and trams, but we did not have enough time. Very Very expensive to take a family to the top for a few hours, but we are glad we did and hiked around. We went in the morning with first car and there was no one there, by the time we returned from hiking it was packed. Very cool 30 min trip up the mountain and fun time walking around with 360 degree views.

A good half day outing

It’s much better and much cheaper to do this on your own than to take a tour which will cost you 2-3 times as much at least. Take the Number 1 bus from Lucerne Train station - my hotel gave a free transport pass - to Pilatus Zentrum and follow the directions to the cable car to Pilatus. Better to buy tickets in advance on online and you will skip the lines. The toboggan ride at Frakennberg is not bad either. The cable car has great views all around. A good outing of 3-4 hours. From the top of Pilatus there are some good views of the Alps of eastern and central Switzerland.

Beautiful views

It was our first trip to Switzerland and we absolutely loved everything about it. One of the places we visited was Pilatus from Kriens. Easy parking right next to cableway. Return tickets cost us around £155 for 2 adults and 1 child. And it was amazing. The views all the way to the top as well as at the top are breathtaking. We spent good 5 hours exploring everything and stopped half way down to see more. Lots of activities around as well as cafe and restaurants. Highly recommend.
