Mount Pilatus Summit from Lucerne With Lake Cruise

Tour guide not worth it... Do it on your own.

Even though it was foggy at the top of My Pilatus the cog wheel train was fun. Also the boat ride on the lake was nice. However, the large gondola (2nd gondola going up) was very crowded and mostly standing room. Also, it is probably best to do this on your own as all the tour guide did was buy the tickets and told us where to get on an off the different parts and that was is.

Great trip even in rain

Our tour guide Evilin was fantastic, very well organized. The weather could have been better, but get what Mother Nature throws in your face.

Exceptional tour of Mt. Pilatus with lake cruise!

Exceptional experience to the top of Mt. Pilatus! Go up by gondola, experience beautiful views at the summit and then come down by cog train. One of a kind experience. Monika was a sensational guide sharing history and details with us. Then you top it off with an hour lake cruise. Highlight of Lucerne for our family. Stunning views! They were easy to communicate with and we highly recommend this tour. Monika was amazing!

Beautiful Views

The views were amazing. I went up the cogwheel and down the cable car on the other side. There’s a lot of steps to climb but the views are totally worth it. You don’t have to climb any steps once you’re there so those with mobility issues can still go.

Great way to spend an afternoon in Lucerne

The tram and cog railway rides were beautiful and the view from the top is spectacular. Also enjoyed the relaxing lake cruise. Our guide was excellent.

Breathtaking view from the gondola and again with the train. Enjoyed both experiences and exploring the mountain. The lake ride was pleasant and relaxing. Perfect ending to a perfect day!

Four types of transport in one day

A perfect journey to visit Mt Pilatus. The experience of four types if transportation in one day is just brilliant. We have plenty of time at the summit to enjoy the views. Highly recommended.

One of our favourite tours in Europe

We enjoyed every part of this tour and our tour guide Judith was fantastic. The length of the tour was just right.

Disappointed

The weather didn't permit any views of the mountains. There wasn't much to do, given that there was no point in hiking. The ladies who sang were wonderful. Wish they had sung longer.

Mt. Pilatus and boat ride on Lake Lucerne.

The gondola, cogwheel ride to/from Mr. Pilatus was great and a lot of fun. Tour guide was good and very informative. Unfortunately it was an overcast day so we couldn’t see anything at the top. Boat ride on Lake Lucerne was enjoyable. On the whole I’d recommend this excursion.

Great tour lousy weather

The weather was poor but it was still well organized. Robert did a great job. I bought postcards to see what we were supposed to be looking at.

If you only have time for one excursion, take this one!

There are many tours that are not worth their cost. This one most definitely is worth the price. The entire trip was a delight. Each of the 5 components were great. Even the clouds parted for several minutes allowing us to see Lake Lausanne from 7000 feet

Very good experience

Great experience- would recommend this 1/2 day excursion- well organised by local tour operators. Went ahead smoothly despite quickly changing weather conditions. Relaxing and insightful day.

Fun Activity But Weather Dependent

The trip itself was very good. But weather plays a part in these types of trips, and the weather was bad for viewing. Also, they moved the Cog Train season back a day, so we didn't get to take it. The boat part was nice, even with the rain.

Memorable Experience

This was a worthwhile trip, I would recommend it to anyone. The view at the top of Mt. Pilatus was breathtaking. Lastly, our guide Rolfo was outstanding, took good care of us, had a great sense of humor and helped answer any questions we had.

An awesome experience!

Fantastic experience! Try to get Lars as a guide. So lush and incredible. Truly loved it. The views from Mount Pilatus are stunning and going up and down on the cables and the cogwheel was amazing!

Enjoyed this tour

Great well coordinated tour. Views from the top of the mountain were amazing. The boat tour at the end was a great add, loved getting a view from the lake.

Beautiful Sites

The scenery and views were remarkable. By using this tour, it simplified the process of getting to the summit and returning back to Luzern

You can’t fight Mother Nature…..

The tour was well organized but we had to cancel the cog train ride due to weather. Unfortunately, Mt. Pilatus was covered in fog, so there was little to view. It’s a nice way to see the mountain and the lake for someone not familiar with the city.

Magnificent Day on top of Mt. Pilatus!!!

What a truly magnificent day on top of Mt. Pilatus. You take 3 different types of transportation to get up to the top and 2 different types to return. It was fantastic and so much fun! Roberto, our tour guide was excellent and was able to keep an enormous group together for each transport change. The views of the Swiss Alps are just gorgeous and up on top of Mt. Pilatus you could see Everything, including, Ultra light parasails! What a FANTASTIC DAY!!!!

Very organized tour and great guide!

Evilan a great tour guide! The tour keeps you moving and is very well organized. I was surprised that the boat ride at the end was my favorite part. It was very peaceful and beautiful.

Serendipitous Snowdall

Cloudy, rainy day so disappointed, but boy when we got to the peak, it was snowing and so awesome! Just got a bottle of wine and watched it snow out the observation window. By midafternoon, cleared up for river cruise back to Lucerne. Fabulous day, even crummy weather.

Loved this tour!

Loved this tour. Although it was raining in the morning, it turned out great nevertheless as the sun returned in the afternoon to provide us with amazing views. Just transportation was so unique - gondola, the steepest train down to Lake Lucerne, and then the boat cruise back to Lucerne. Our guide was very good, took very good care of the group with precise information. I highly recommend this tour, especially on a sunny day. But even if it’s raining, don’t despair - it’s worth it anyway.

Excellent adventure

Rolf was very pleasant and informative. The connections between the various mods of transportation were spot on. No wasting of time. Just the right amount of time to leisurely explore the area.

A great afternoon in Lucerne!

We thoroughly enjoyed this tour! Loved the gondola ride, the tram and the time to ourselves at the top of the mountain. Spectacular views! Rolf our guide was very organized and informative. The ride down the mountain on the cogwheel train was beautiful and exciting! The boat ride back to Lucerne was lovely. It was a wonderful afternoon! Highly recommend!

A fascinating experience

Mount Pilatus is one of the most fascinating and beautiful peak in Switzerland. Experiencing Cable car and the train ride was amazing. The tour guide lady was very courteous and patient.

Absolutely a beautiful afternoon. The guide was great and informative. The scenery was magnificent. After a great trip up the Mountain the lake cruise was a real treat it was just a great way to end the day.

A must tour if you visit Lucerne

The view from Mount Pilatus was more than breathtaking. Boat ride was relaxing. Was hard to hear our tour guide at times as there was a lot of commotion all the visitors and other tours.

Good Half Day With Great Views

Good half day tour. Up one side of Mt Pilatus on gondolas, down the other side on the cogwheel train. Great view of Luzern and the surrounding area from the top. Then a nice boat ride back.

Great time , got to see and do a lot of things!

Great views! You get to do your own thing when you are up on mountain. Not super organized but still a great time. Not really an informational tour on the history or etc. Boat was great and pretty views. Worth the money still.

Worth it!

So very nice. Lots of beautiful vista's. Our guide Isabelle was very sweet. It was very much worth the price. We enjoyed it.

An average tour

Well organised, However, the guide could have been better as he was kind of short of explanations. One had to dig into him for getting additional information,

Long queues for the tram, no cogwheel train and a shortened time at the summit made for a poorly designed excursion.

Tram ride was nice but this excursion was way overbooked, requiring a long wait for 2 full motor coaches and long queues for both the assent and decent on the tram. What should have been a 15 minute bus ride to the tram took 1 hour and 45 minutes. Our time at the summit was shortened to 50 minutes and the 1 hour boat ride was shortened to 35 minutes. The guide only handed out tickets, no information about the mountain or lake views.

Great use of time while in Lake Lucerne

Mountain time was excellent as well as boat ride. Everything was on time and well organized. Tour guide also was a pleasure.

Mt. Pilatus & Lake Lucerne

We were sad we couldn't ride the cog railway, but the gondola rides were fine. It shortened our ferry trip, but the bus driver caught us up, so it was nice. Isabel did a great job herding her group through all the queues and at the top, too. Narration was good

A beautiful day in Lucerne

Robert, our tour guide, was wonderful! The entire day was lovely. It was foggy on Pilatus, so we couldn't see the view, and the train wasn't running, but it was still worth the trip. The boat ride was especially beautiful and relaxing.

Late October Pilatus excursion

We took a nice excursion to the top of Pilatus at the end of October. The views from the various hiking summits were spectacular. I would have rated the trip higher except that the ferry wasn't running at this time of the year. Also, the high speed cable car was shut down for maintenance. These two factors are out of the control of the tour group and they did their best to make sure we comfortable on the bus and cog train.

Canceled

Our tour was canceled, so we can’t write a review. We definitely wish we had been able to take the tour.

Mt. Pilatus is simply breathtaking

In summary: this visit was breathtaking. Due to the weather, the cogwheel train tracks were frozen (so unusable) and the boat tour was canceled. Our (very friendly and helpful!) tour guide said the website says the boat is always closed during November, but I couldn't find that information, and the reimbursement option was only a 20 frank meal voucher at the cafe on Mt Pilatus (which isn't enough for one meal). Because of these two things, we felt a little scammed. HOWEVER!!!!! These things did NOT ruin the experience at all, and it was still INCREDIBLE! The views were absolutely breathtaking and the mountain feels like it's out of a fairytale. the cable car rides take you up the mountainside, showing an incredible view of the lake, the mountains beyond, and the local cottages and flocks of sheep. Our tour guide was so very kind, patient, and helpful, and she spoke English, Spanish, and German. The trip was very well organized and we were well informed of all the activities available up on the mountain. There are also some very friendly and funny who like to hang out around the overlook. Truly a magical experience and a MUST DO for anyone visiting Lucerne!

Very nice trip

Tour was well organized and everything went as planned. It was great to do the gondolas up and the cogwheel train down followed by the boat. Beautiful views as the weather was perfect. Only thing that could have been better was the tour guide. She really didn’t say much at the top of Pilatus other than what time to meet at the entrance to the train.

Bad Tour Guide, don't go on this tour

We had a very bad tour experience that we took on Oct. 28. to start with the tour guide was late to the pickup point. So everyone just loaded up on the bus (there were 3 tours leaving at that point) and hoped we were on the correct bus. When the guide arrived, he did a head count, never checked our reservation tickets or names, and started the tour. We drove to the Cogwheel, that was closed, we all got off the bus and immediately back on when the guide realized the cogwheel was closed. We the drove to the cable car. We were late for our time slot so we all had to wait in line for 30 minutes to get on to the cable car. We were told to make sure we were on the 4 pm cable car or earlier, and the bus would leave as soon as that cable car got down. We saw the line for the cable car was long so we got in line for it at 3 pm. Waited in that line for 45 minutes to get on the cable car. We spent more time waiting in lines then enjoying the tour. When the 4 pm cable car got down the guide told us to get on the bus and then we left. No head count or check to make sure everyone got back on the bus. We didnt have time to sit down and eat and use the $20 voucher. What a waste of our day and money. This was very unorganized from the start and continued that way all day.

A must if you have a short stay.

We had one day in Luzern. We took this trip and it was awesome. The top of Mount Pilatus was beautiful. Hikes are not too hard. There is a lovely restaurant to sit outside and eat & drink and a quick place also. The view are beautiful and worth a few pictures! The go down the mountain to the lake and take the boat back to the town. Beautiful was to see the lake and homes on the lake. We topped off the day with a wonderful meal.

Great tour

Trip well organized. Plenty of time at top of mountain. Great experience. Gladly recommend this tour.

Don’t trust Viator to describe the excursion

Viator deceived us. There was supposed to be a gondola ride up the mountain. The gondola was down for its yearly scheduled maintenance, which Viator should have known. The cogwheel train is nice, but should be much cheaper.

Pilatus ok. But no gondola/boat ride

My Pilatus trip with konrad was excellent. He’s super funny. I gave 2 stars because we didn’t get to go in the gondola ride. We got chf 20 for food voucher to compensate us for not going on the boat ride. I’m not recommending this tour for that much money and not do the gondola n boat ride. Nobody told us they are doing maintenance for 3 weeks.
