Day Trip to Swiss Villages (Interlaken-Grindelwald)

Strange

This was an unsatisfying tour. We departed from Lucerne to Interlachen but stayed for only an hour, too little time to do anything but with no guiding or explanation. We then went to Grindelwald where we had hours and hours, but that time would only be needed if you were doing paragliding or some kind of similar activity (which we weren’t and didn’t know about in advance anyway). There’s otherwise not enough in the village to justify that amount of time, and again no guiding at all. We then had to return to Interlachen by train on our own, this time for an hours-long stay (and no guiding). So you stroll the tourist shops and umpteen watch stores, and maybe get a drink. Both villages were lovely and we were glad to visit and see them, and the scenery along the way was breathtaking. But the structure of the tour didn’t make sense at all. (Plus the bus driver, while skilled at his job, was a total sourpuss.)

The trip was beautiful. The pick up point could have had some more details. For us seniors that are not attached to the cell phone. You could say in front of the —— Hotel. In back of Mc Donald’s.

Great day trip

Good visit to Interlaken along with a great stop in Grindelwald! Very helpful and informative guides really enhanced this experience, including the ride up to the First for a great view and lunch

Don’t bother going on...

Don’t bother going on this tour. They gave out incorrect information about pick up and drop off locations, then refused to give a partial refund. Just catch the train to Interlaken and Grindelwald and save your money.

Awesome - book it!

Yes, this is a partially guided tour as stated BUT well worth it. The drive from Zurich to Lucerne and then Grindawald was fabulous and our guide Sophia was amazing. Francesco our driver was great and Roberto who helped Sophia was also a wonderful guide. The add on of Mt First and the Mountain Carts was a bucket list item ticked off. A wonderful day in Switzerland.

Love Grindelwald

With the exception that this photo isn’t from Interlaken or Grindelwald, both towns are still very beautiful.

Disjointed tour

The meeting point was easy to find and we were picked up on-time. There was no guide to meet us. We did not know that we were part of a tour that started in Zurich. We were told about many options for the day while on the bus and given a written brochure about some of them. The brochure was inadequate because it didn't give duration times for planning. We had to ask the tour guide. Also the initial tour write up didn't explain about all the options for the day. The day was broken up by a short stop in Interlaken and then taken to Grindlewald. We then were given train tickets to take a train back to Interlaken at the end of the day to catch the bus back to Lucerne. So, it seemed very disjointed. Overall not very impressed. We made the best of what we could.

Indescribable experience

We loved our day trip to Grindelwald. Pick up in Lucerne was convenient. We stopped at Interlaken for about an hour before continuing to Grindelwald. We were able to buy cable car tickets on the bus and we're dropped at the entrance. A train ticket back to Interlaken was given to us so we were able to choose how long we spent in each place. It was absolutely an indescribable experience. The only issue was that the bus driver was not great at anticipating traffic. He slammed on the breaks repeatedly which was rather startling.

Not as good as it was written.

The guide’s explanation for the entire day is rather confusing and she wasn’t very patient in repeating the answers when asked in a later situation. She forgot that all the terminologies she uses are so foreign to us eg Interlaken, Grindakwald, jungfraugh etc. she assumed we understand exactly where these places are and how they are related.

Not worth it

Not worth it. You’re better off just buying a round trip train ticket from Lucerne to Interlaken. The bus was hot and uncomfortable. The guide was fine, but she repeated everything in Spanish so it felt a little like you were only getting half as much as you paid for. It’s mixed with other tours so the timeline isn’t optimized for you to get the most out of the trip. Instead they drive you to Interlaken, have you walk around for 50 minutes which isn’t really enough time to do anything but long enough for you to feel like you wasted it. Then you get back on the bus (not a train as indicated) and drive to Grindelwald, by now it’s noon and you left at 9 and you feel like you still haven’t been able to do anything. We ended up just buying a train ticket and taking the train back to Lucerne two hours early.

Wonderful Scenery

Wonderful vista's driving through the Alps! Our guide, Lars, was exceptional. He spoke in clear English and then other languages too. Interlaken and Grindlewald were interesting villages, and we had plenty of time to gaze at the mountains, eat, shop, and relax with drinks. Not hurried or rushed at all. Very enjoyable!

Terrible experience

Unfortunately I have to give this a bad review. We arrived at the meeting point on time (15 min prior to trip). There was no tour guide and many people were wondering if we were at the correct spot. 5 min after trip was to start 2 ladies show up very disorganized and hurrying to check us in. A few min later a city bus pulls up and stops, blocking traffic on the busiest street in Lucerne. It was a double decker bus and I could see many people already on it. The driver started honking and yelling at us to load the bus as he was blocking traffic. My husband and I got on the bus and there were no seats available on first deck...many people had luggage on the open seats. We went up the very narrow staircase to the second deck and saw there were no seats together. This bus had very low ceilings and small seats. Instantly my husband and I needed to get off the bus because it felt so closed in and the thought of spending even a short bus ride (this is an 8-10 hour tour) on this bus made both of us panic. I assumed the bus we would be on would be a nice comfortable coach. Absolutely not the case.

Mind-blowing mountains

WOW!! What a great time we had on this excursion. The coach was clean, the driver wonderful, and our guide was fantastic. Our guide was multilingual, incredibly knowledgeable, and very personable. The weather was fantastic on the day we went up to Grindelwald. Seeing Eiger and the glaciers was mind-blowing. We went on the last day of the season that the lift takes visitors to the top - so keep dates in mind and check the schedule before you book this trip. We couldn't have wished for a better trip.

great scenery

This was a bus trip to interlaken and grindelwald. Interestingly we were given a waiver to sign only after we left Interlaken. The villages were lovely. the bus was a bus ride.

Not a good experience.

Mixing different trips visitors in one bus , finding your own way by train , not having enough time to see Grindelwald not a good idea for a trip .Rather than seeing something , one has to think about time and station location . Guide was good .

We could have done this ourselves for less

This trip was basically guided transport from Lucerne to the 2 villages. Guides spoke on bus speakers to and from. Both audio and guide content were below average; in retrospect we could have taken the train from Lucerne, so we really just overpaid for “guided” transportation

Grindelwald- Horrible Tour

Save your money, this trip basically is a form of transportation to Interlaken. We were not taken around villages, they give you a booklet and figure it out on your own. We ended booking another excursion to Swiss Alps in which we paid a little bit more but worth every penny.

Disappointed

Weather was poor for seeing mountains. Nature! Tourguide on coach was fine, but we were dropped off in each of the 2 villages with no advice on which way to go, what someone might want to see in the village. Surrounded by tourist shops, didn't feel like we really experienced the city.

Some unbelievable scenery and the weather was sensational. Having lunch at the hotel at the top of the mountain overlooking the alps was amazing.

Consider doing the trip independently

The trip did as it says. If i was to return I would get a train ticket to Interlaken and Grindelwald saving around 50CHF per couple rather than waiting around for some people some rude on a double decker coach. I would of probably enjoyed it more doing the trip independently .

Punctuality

All was well but punctuality of the bus was a concern Late leaving in the morning and about 30 minutes or more late for pick up to return to Luzern.

Got to see beautiful Swiss countryside!

So good to see the mountains in Grindelwald and all the scenery along the way there- beautiful countryside! Completely relaxed in Interlaken.

Worth the money

This was a lovely tour. The sites were a beautiful. Our tour guide were very accommodating and kind and helpful. I think the time allotted was about right

Short Visit

only had 1-1/2 days. tourist center around the corner from the train station is a great source of info and tickets for Pilatus and the train back to town. take the bus to Pilatus, cable car up, tram down, and train back to town. get a hotel in town that gives breakfast for convenience. had one lunch & one dinner along the inner-city waterway. pick up a sandwich & a beer from a kiosk in the train station, and take it with you to the top of Pilatus for lunch one day. do the same for dinner another time to save cash. things are expensive if not. pastries to die for, just like most of Europe. don't kill yourself doing too much. veg and take it all in. this is easily doable from noon on day one to leaving on the morning of day 3.

Horrible

Disappointed because the description on Viator was not accurate. I would never have booked this trip. This was a last minute add on to another tour. This has been the fourth disappointing trip with Viator. Terrible quality. Will be difficult to recommend to my clients.
