Walk the Ferry Wall

David provided an informative history of Derry. We had a lovely time and the walls are quite impressive.

A great introduction to Derry’s history and culture.

Dave was very knowledgeable and shared his knowledge in a way that was easy to absorb. He adapted the tour to incorporate sites that were of special interest to us. I’d highly recommend him!

Derry’s history and culture

David was great- very knowledgeable about the history of Derry and the culture. We walked the entire wall. David pointed out all the views and the various lookout points and bastions. David also advised a list of other places to visit after our tour and places to walk/ like the “peace bridge”.

Delightful dander along the city walls

David is a very knowledgeable historian but also a gifted story teller. We had a thoroughly enjoyable stroll along the beautifully maintained Derry/Londonderry walls, peppered with stories from the apprentice boys’ historic locking of the gates preceding the siege of Derry to the tale of Walter the hapless de Burgh, whose skeletal frame is depicted on the city’s coat of arms, from the fishmongers’ “Roaring Meg” canon to the meanings behind place names -“the Bog” , “the Fountain” and mentions of the city’s famous sons and daughters. David’s pride in his native city is evident in his enthusiasm as he narrates - do not miss this tour - it’s a gem

So much learned in so little time!

We were a fairly large group with a pretty small amount of time and Dave managed to share so much knowledge with us! He covered from the Middle Ages to today without bias or agenda and always with a hopeful eye to the future. And he was open to responding to any and all questions. We are definitely coming back to Derry!

Well worth it

Discovering Derry…a frank but unbiased insight.

A detailed and impartial insight to the varied and sometimes volatile history of Derry. A very patient and informative David answering our many questions, as he revealed numerous aspects of the city’s near and distant past. Thoroughly recommended.

Enjoyable, Interesting Wall Tour

The city wall tour with David was wonderful! He is an expert on all information concerning the wall and also his city of Derry. If in Derry, make sure and book this tour. Such interesting history explained by an expert guide and so many beautiful views looking out from the top of the walls!

Fantastic Historic Tour of Derry

David's tour gave us a fantastic historic overview of Derry's past, including content highlighted in other tours (the troubles, Derry Girls), but also a whole lot more! It was also fun to walk along the walls and finish up at a small craft village for shopping afterwards before exploring some of the other spots Daniel recommended. Overall great experience!

Amazing walking tour.

This was an amazing walking tour; I arranged it for a friend who was visiting from Jordan and although I am a native of Derry/Londonderry, David's walking tour of the walls introduced me to historical facts I was unaware of, his overview of the key developments in the emergence of the Maiden city as important place with global significance was excellent and our leisurely tour was interspersed with time for photos and interesting anecdotes about local celebrities. My friend thoroughly enjoyed the experience too because it gave her a greater appreciation of the historical backdrop of N.Ireland and introduced her to the unique character of the city. We were joined on our tour with people from the Netherlands and Italy, so we got a chance to share information about our perspectives on the culture of N.Ireland. I would recommend this walking tour very highly, David is knowledgeable and passionate about the city, eager to answer questions and it was a great experience.

Dave KNOWS Derry!

Dave (?) our guide is EXTREMELY knowledgeable! He truly knows the history of the region! He walked us ALL around the walls of Derry and could answer any question we had. The man is a walking textbook of Derry! And what a kind man too. We were almost an hour late showing up to meet him and he was right where he said he'd be with a smile on his face! An excellent tour! clearly knew his history of the area!

Great, unbiased, extensive tour

Although my mum grew up in Derry-Londonderry so I have spent a lot of time in the city, I learnt a lot on this tour and gained a greater understanding of the city and how it has become the place it is today. David was incredibly knowledgeable, friendly and patient (we were very late for our private tour) and he gave a great unbiased historical tour. I would highly recommend to anyone visiting the city especially as he covered history from the 1600s right up to present day.

Most personalized and creative tour and guide ever!

Excellent tour of Derry with our exceptional guide, David. Not only was he incredibly knowledgeable and interesting, but he was remarkably flexible and helpful with our unique situation. Situation. I had broken my knee cap in Ireland and was struggling on crutches. I called to cancel our walking tour but David suggested I obtain a wheelchair and he would modify our tour to be partially from a car and partially from the wheelchair. He created a tour that allowed me to enjoy the city, learn about Derry, see parts of the city that I would not be able to and work around my limited mobility. Not only that, but he was helpful in picking up and returning the wheelchair. He made. Excellent suggestions for how we can get around on our own. I highly recommend Derrie Danders for a fabulous tour and tour guide!!

Fascinating tour of the Walled City

We had a fascinating tour with David who set out the history of Derry/Londonderry for us and provided a neutral perspective on the troubles. David kept our 2 teens enthralled and had a wealth of information at his fingertips. Highly recommended to anyone visiting NI.

Thoroughly recommend

Whether you are a native of the city, like myself or a tourist, I would thoroughly recommend a tour of the city with David! Today he led us on a tour incorporating transport hubs and links; starting from the train station in the Waterside, telling us about its history and that of the other train stations which used to be in the city, including also the history of the five bridges we used to have and also more movingly about the docks and the role they played in emigration. We were also treated to many historical fact about the rich tapestry of our city and of course, ever the professional, was able to answer all our questions

David was an amazingly qualified tour leader. He is well informed and a welcoming host. He was able to weave in historical details and delightful stories that personalized the city. We highly recommend this tour!

David was phenomenal! He walked us through 1500 years of history and his quiet humor was well appreciated. There were many things we would have missed just walking about Derrie without him pointing it out to us. My family and I highly recommend this tour!

Great Dander Around the Walls

David took us (grandparents, parents, and a 15 year old) on an informative tour of the beautiful Derry walls and city. His historical knowledge is prodigious, from the early founding of the city up through today. He provided a balanced, fact based summary of the Troubles with a timely update on current status. Would definitely recommend!

David Created a Great Custom Tour for Us

My wife and I booked David for a custom half day tour which included not only the circuit of the walls of Derry but the beautiful Guild Hall and the cemetery over looking the city. The tour of the complete walls was fascinating and offered many great photos and vistas. The Guild Hall has sumptuous stained glass and an exhibit of the peace prizes won by John Hume for his work in ending the violence caused by the troubles. It was the first time I had actually seen a Nobel Prize up close. We also visited the hill top cemetery overlooking the city. The panoramic view was terrific and the memorials to both Protestants and Catholics who had lost their lives in the troubles were very moving. David was very personable and flexible in showing us inside the walled city as well. We had a great time.

Just an intriguing afternoon

Just an intriguing afternoon I was a guest on a private tour, with a chum who knows his Irish history. So I was treated to David’s in-depth knowledge as well as the conversation between the two “historians”. David gave us a wonderful insight to centuries of local history, as well as the more recent past, but his delivery was entirely factual and never biased or political. I found it quite enthralling and really enjoyed this tour of the city and its rich history, which David brought to life. Thank you

Spectacular Derry

I have thought about this tour often since we had the pleasure in September 2022. I am finally getting around to a review! This tour was a highlight of our ten day vacation. The incredible knowledge of the history of Derry accompanied by the passion and love for this city made this tour exceptional. Each of us felt like we were walking with an old friend we came to visit who was a historian of Derry. David is so welcoming! Every turn and corner was filled with information that enlightened, entertained and informed. I can't say enough about how much we all enjoyed this tour.

Fantastic insight into Derry History

Walked the walks of Derry with our tour guide John McNulty. FANTASTIC. He knowledge and energy about the City was second to none. This tour is a must do and hope you are lucky enough to get John as your guide.

Brilliant accessible tour for a large group

David's tour was excellent. We were quite a large group of mums with prams and he accommodated the tour to cover accessible areas. We had a brilliant morning.
