Highlight of our London Trip

This day trip was awesome and a highlight of our London trip. Our tour guide Taylor was sweet, clear, and helpful, and also had an adorable accent that we loved listening to. The driver was safe and wonderful too. The trip was perfectly timed so we could see each destination. We took the Dover castle route and I’m so glad we did! It was stunning. Make sure you buy your castle tickets ahead of time so you get the discount. Canterbury was wonderful, we loved exploring the charming little streets, getting cream tea at Tiny Tim’s, and having lunch at the rooftop restaurant.

Loved Seeing the White Cliffs

Katea and Lionel were a great team as guide and driver. Extremely knowledgeable and committed to our having a great experience. The White Cliffs were spectacular as was the Dunkirk harbor. Canterbury was interesting as well. My wife and I highly recommend this tour.

Awesome Flexibility

Both our driver and our tour guide were friendly and professional. I loved the flexibility of this tour, they got us there and shared information and then we had the flexibility to choose our options. The only thing that could be improved slightly is a little more time at Dover castle. If you are doing the tunnel tours and don't get in the first one as soon as you get there, you probably wouldn't have enough time to do a later one.

Well worth it

The day trip was a perfect quick escape from London. The white cliffs were magnificent. I got a little chocked up looking at them and imagining the pure sense of relief and joy the bomber pilots must have experienced seeing them on the return trip from Germany in WWII, knowing that they had safely made it back. The tour guide Katiia was very personable and knowledgeable and made a spectacular trip even better. I am ashamed to say that I don’t remember the drivers name, but he did a magnificent job of giving us a smooth and comfortable ride in the most trying of traffic conditions. We even got to witness the length Katia was willing to go for us when another tour group attempted to cut in line in front of us at Dover Castle. While maintaining her dignity and professionalism, she made it known to this group and all within earshot that this was not OK and was not going to fly and succeeded in getting that group to turn around and take their rightful place at the end of the line. Very satisfied and pleased with this tour and would highly recommend.

Not as we expected

It was not what we expected. However our guide Lucy and driver Rohan were good and did their very best to accommodate us.

A Day Outside London: Exploring Dover and Canterbury

Kevin, the driver, did a great job navigating the narrow streets of London! Our guide, a native of Canterbury, was fantastic—fun and knowledgeable! I highly recommend this tour. It was awesome to go outside of London proper and see the White Cliffs of Dover and historic Canterbury. There was also time at Dover Castle, but that was not my favorite part. I'm a bit sour about it because we were given two hours to explore the castle, but after waiting in line for 45 minutes for the popular castle tour, we learned it takes approximately an hour to complete after getting in. Therefore, we would not have made it back in time for the meetup. So, after waiting 45 minutes, we decided to leave and explore the castle quickly, which felt rushed. My recommendation for this tour would be to allow extra time for the tour that is apparently the main attraction at the castle.

Excellent Day Trip!

Nice day tour and break from the city. Our guide, Katia, was excellent! Very friendly and super knowledgeable about all the history and all the practicalities as well. Our driver, Kevin, did an excellent job - we felt very safe and everything was on time. We had ample time to spend at the cliffs - many of the other tours I considered were quick or “pass by” trips. This trip gives the option of walking the path along the cliffs for 2+ hours, or spending about 20 minutes at the cliffs and then heading to Dover Castle. We opted for the castle, which was very cool! Canterbury was a great stop for food and exploring. 2-3 hours was a good amount of time to eat lunch and still wander about or tour the cathedral. (We opted to walk around town instead of going inside the cathedral.) I like that this trip was a la carte, so we could choose (or skip) the add-ons. I also like that it didn’t try to squeeze in too many things so we could actually spend time in both places. Overall it was a really great day, and I’d definitely recommend it.

Connecting with part of Britain’s rich history

It was incredible to stand on the top of the white cliffs and learn their history and significance. The Canterbury Cathedral was an unexpected treasure. It’s magnificent. Our tour guide was exceptional.

Nice day trip

Couldn't see much of White Cliffs, but had a photo op. Canterbury nice, but Cathedral extra. We were fortunate to have good weather.

Visit the white cliffs

Darren the tour guide knew his stuff, very well versed with information about the areas visited. The bus driver was great the bus was clean and comfortable. Cliffs are amazing, castle and cathedral worth the visit.

Great way to enjoy a day!

Cliffs + Canterbury are a nice combination. Squeezing in the Dover Castle is too much if you really want to experience the cliffs. Plenty of time to explore Canterbury. Guide was very informative.

Picturesque

Our trip was very interesting, we definitely enjoyed the entire experience. Our tour guide, Darren, and our driver, Kevin, did a wonderful job. Darren provided great recommendations and facts, and Kevin navigated the windy narrow roads with ease. Got to spend about 45 minutes at the cliffs, and then we opted to visit Dover castle. Very picturesque and the tours are included in the entry fee to the castle. Then we got to spend time in Canterbury. Darren provided many fabulous options for food, fun, and shopping. Got plenty of beautiful pictures.

The White Cliffs was nice...

The White Cliffs was nice but it rained all day and was very foggy. Canterbury was a quaint town. We enjoyed it.

Terrible guide Vanessa - terrible tour experience

1. Our guide (may be Vanessa, that's what she told at the end of the tour, although she told a different name all through the day) was very knowledgeable - talked a lot about several things apart from the scheduled tour details. 2. Owing to the excessive talking, she often missed out on necessary details,e.g, when and where bus will be parked, when and where to report back, etc. 3. She simply left out a passenger at White Cliffs, after waiting for twenty minutes. and continued with the remaining part of the tour. 4. She didn't care to look for the passenger anywhere outside the bus - a cafe is only twenty steps away from the parked bus. She could have called the phone no. submitted during booking. 5. She didn't carry any identification placard - it was difficult to spot her out amidst the crowd. We were 49 in our bus, there were couple of other groups too. 6. After leaving out the passenger at White Cliff, she became judgmental and behaved rude with parents of the left-out passenger, who had boarded the bus in time. 7. Defnitely a terrible experience for us - I shall remember this "Day Tour London" and this lady (Vanessa) and shall not book any tour with them in future.

Katya and Angela were an excellent team providing safe driving and incredible knowledge and history. Willingness to answer all questions was appreciated

White Cliffs of Dover, Dover Castle and Canterbury Cathedral

We enjoyed all of it and have recommended it to others already. Both our driver and guide were quite fun and knowledgeable.

Awesome Day Tour

Our tour guide Darrien was awesome and very informative. He went out of his way to give us as much history and detail as possible. Good instruction on meetup times and itinerary for the day as well.

Improvements needed before I would recommend.

At the cliffs of Dover my wife and I elected to take the optional tour of Dover Castle. At Dover Castle we were dropped off at an entrance to the Castle which was, unknown to us, not the main entrance. We wasted a good 45 minutes of our 2 hour visit figuring out where we were on the map we were given when we bought our tickets. I told Darren our tour guide that would have been helpful to know that we would be entering the Castle complex through the Constables Gate which is location number 40 on the map they give you when you buy your tickets. The main entrance was far from the Constables Gate and Location No. 1 on their map. At Canterbury, Darren led the entire bus load of people through the streets of Canterbury on a "tour". Imagine a group of 40 or so people streaming through the busy/noisy streets of Canterbury for a tour and the tour guide didn't have a microphone so we could hear what he was saying. It was hard for us to keep up with the fast pace anyway so after a few minutes my wife and I dropped off from the group and headed straight for Canterbury Cathedral which is where we had planned to spend most of our time anyway.

No AI can replace the kindness of our trip driver, Darren!

I had the Dover cliffs and the Canterbury cathedral (watch the movie “Becket” with Richard Burton and Peter O’Toole) on my bucket list and now they are checked off. The trip was perfect, the day was very warm and Darren, our driver and guide, is a wonderful human being. He drove us also to see the Dover Castle, gave us all the info we needed and acted like a friend is taking us to see the places and not like a business employee. That day stays in our mind like as a lovely memory!

Know what you want

The tour was as advertised, but be aware that you only get a small sampling of Dover and Canterbury. The staff and signage at Dover castle were not extremely helpful. It would have been extremely helpful for our tour guide to have gone into the grounds of Dover Castle to help instruct where key points are located. Just know this tour is the briefest of tastes and the majority of the tour is the transportation to the sights.

Our guide was Darren and we had a great time; not rushed and given options. A little more time at the Cliffs might have been good but we chose to see the Castle and were happy with our choice. Canterbury was superb and Darren was just great all day.

Good value day trip!

Excellent guide with great local recommendations. Only wish there had been one more hour to explore Canterbury.

Wonderful walk in history

Historical castle and cathedral. Not so interesting white cliffs, but nice wiew of Dover. Good tourguide, a little man with funny hair. Never got his name, the speaker inside the bus did'nt work very good to the back of the bus. He said a lot of things we could not hear...

Great tour

The tour guide and driver were awesome. The guide was very knowledgeable about history in London as well as the castle, cathedral and the white cliffs.

Great!

Needed a day out of London badly. As I am always working. Decide to do on my off time something different. Book one day trip with Viator and no regret at all. Its was great choice. Will recommend without doubt Viator for travell. Staff friendly and very helpful. Thank you

Good itinerary but too long and fast walking.

Good itinerary but not much time in Canterbury after lunch. Guide had a good knowledge and was great as for the vocal part, but the short 6 or 7 minute walk to Canterbury center turned into 20 minutes even at the quick pace.

Tour bus departed early

The tour vehicle left BEFORE the listed departure time. I was there waiting with one other passenger. I was not informed in the TripAdvisor/Viator confirmation that I must arrive BEFORE the time of 7:30. I was there at 7:27am. They were quick to offer another tour on another day. However that was my only day in London. They were speedy to issue the refund request. Small consolation for my one possible day to do this day tour that I made arrangements and traveled to the joining location for.

Canterbury was nice & Cliff of Dover nice

Definitely my favourite was Dover Castle (extra cost but it was really big castle - underground tunnels are not that interesting) and Canterbury was a very nice city too

excellently organized

Everything around was excellently organized. We visited all the places, the bus driver and the guide were very accommodating.

Unforgettable views

Our tour was great! Lucy was knowledgeable and very nice! She gave us some very interesting facts and tales of each place we visited. The weather was great so we were able to enjoy the awesome views of the cliffs and walked around the town of Canterbury where we eat and did some shopping.

Fascinating, wild and wooly!!

Lucy and our bus driver were a dream team. Lucy was very polished and fun and despite the winds and rain, she made the most of the tour for the guests. Glad we took the tour and saw an important part of England we may never have seen otherwise.

Beautiful! Darn fog...

A very pleasant beginner's tour of the Cliffs and of the city of Canterbury. I like that ours was a smaller group and that it gave you some reasonable time to wander off on your own while providing lots of great background information about the areas during the time spent together as a group. Darren was a great guide, had lots of energy and a very friendly demeanour. Getting into Dover Castle and the Canterbury Cathedral cost extra, which was a bummer (I thought the Cathedral was included, the description of the tour was a little vague). The Cliffs were BEAUTIFUL, but, on our tour day a huge fog rolled in and most of it was obfuscated within minutes. We were there for a goodly amount of time but thanks to the fog I BARELY saw the cliffs...not sure if there's a way to avoid that in advance, but, keep in mind that this might be a possibility for the tour. I would still recommend going, though. The hike along the cliffs was exhilarating anyway! DRESS WARMLY. Overall, though, it was a very stress-free experience and if you don't want to drive, it's at least a decent cost-effective way to see some cool sights for a day (if you pack some food) (additional castle/cathedral fees aside).

Good trip

The white cliff was amazing and the Canterbury city walk was adorable. Lucy the toor guide was extremely nice and shared nice stories about the sites.

Stunning nature

Absolutely beautiful and rugged beauty of nature at the White cliffs of Dover, and the quaint little town of Canterbury was stunning. Didn't go to the Dover castle as I opted to go to the lighthouse at the White cliffs, but both options were awesome.

Worthwhile for a day trip

Great day with a small group and a very engaging tour guide. Despite the cold we were able to do plenty, highly recommend for a taste test of Dover and Canterbury!

The White cliff have a wow factor!

WOW! My wife and I absolutely loved this tour! It was amazing on all accounts. Even with the high winds and overcast skies, we were still impressed. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and she did a great job. The castle at Dover was really cool. Canterbury was a great little town also. One of the nicer things was the travel time was not as long as other tours we have taken.

Disappointed

I had a difficult time finding an Uber at 6 in the morning and was running a few mins late. I called the company to notify them but they still left us behind. I am so disappointed!!!!!!

If the castle is closed, the tour will screw you over

In Dover, you have the choice between hiking the white cliffs or visiting the castle. On the day we went, the castle had closed and the tour company did not know, but by the time we learned this, it was too late to do anything else with the morning, because the hike was too long. The tour company could have taken the group that had planned on the castle to Canterbury early and then come back for the hiking group when they were done, but instead they just dropped us off at the cliff visitor center/cafe, where we had nothing to do for approximately three hours. While it’s not the tour’s fault that the castle was closed, they should have 1) made arrangements with the castle to be notified of closures (the castle representative said they didn’t know out tour was coming or they would have notified the company, like they did with every other tour that was scheduled that day) and 2) done something to make our investment in the tour worthwhile once we learned it was closed. As it was, we paid for a whole day tour that consisted of a full half-day sitting around and doing nothing because this company didn’t decide to do their due diligence with the castle or find anything else for us to do with our time when we learned it was closed. A more professional company would have found alternate activities or simply taken us to the next destination rather than leaving us to sit around at a rest stop for several hours.

No itinerary required

I got to meet with some family and ended up staying with one of them in Southwark Central London. Central London is an ideal place to stay at for solo traveling. Some of the main attractions & museums are accessible by walking, bus & train rides and some popular pubs and eateries are in the area too. Don’t forget the world famous Borough Market for the best donuts, sausages, and exotic food from around the world.!!!

Do not choose this outing if anyone in your party walks slowly.

First stop on tour was at a rest stop, where driver was 10 min late after all passengers came back at prescribed time. At the White cliffs of Dover, the guide asked my family if we were going to the Dover castle which I confirmed. Then she asked if anyone had trouble with hips or walking, I said my husband walks slowly. When we got back to the bus - we saw it was leaving - and I had to sprint across parking lot getting the drivers attention before it stopped. When asked why they left without us, the guide responded that she waited for "2" minutes. When we got to Dover castle, the bus dropped us off at back entrance - where there is only one attendant (as opposed to main entrance with several lines and attendants). This resulted in waiting in line for 30+ minutes to just fetch tickets (and this on a slow rainy day), and then - because of short time allotted - there was insufficient time to see anything other than main castle building. No time for tunnel tours that the castle is famous for. Then on to Canterbury - tour advertised the cathedral, and while it did say that entry tickets are not included, they did not say that you cannot even get close to the cathedral without paying. My family just wanted to enjoy the architecture from the outside, but we could not even look from outside without paying the "entrance" fees. All in all, a disappointing experience , everything was terrible rushed, without sufficient time to enjoy ANY of the sights.

Great attractions not so great organisation

The places we visited were amazing - the tour however was unorganised and very late. We missed a show back in London due to a mix up picking up the tour guide. We were dropped off in a different spot to our pick up which left us all confused.

A nice way to see things outside London

I enjoyed this trip a lot because everything was planned out for me. The bus trip to Dover was pleasant. Lucy was a terrific guide and very sweet and fun. Once we reached Dover Lucy took us to the cliffs. You can either follow the cliff trail or go to the castle which is an additional charge. I opted to hike the trail and enjoyed it. To hike it entirely is about 90 minutes to 2 hours. The welcome center is very nice with a gift shop and area with food. The bus picked us up to continue to Canterbury. We were given nearly three hours to explore and Canterbury is a charming town with lots of restaurants and shopping. I paid the additional fee to visit the cathedral and it's nice but I have been to many churches worldwide and IMO not a must see. We were dropped back in London before 6pm. I was very happy with the entire trip

Give us more Dover.

Our driver, Clayton was great. The trip would have been perfect if we had more time at the Cliffs of Dover and less at Cantaberry.

Great tour

We really enjoyed this tour. Our tour guide, Darren, provided a lot of great information during our travels through London and en route to our destinations. The white cliffs of Dover were beautiful, and we would have loved to spend more time there! We opted to take the castle tour mostly because we were concerned about the weather. The town of Canterbury was absolutely lovely with many interesting shops and restaurants. It was nice to have choices of activities at each site. Would definitely recommend this tour.

Good out of the city experience

A great day trip. IT DOES TAKE ALL DAY…left at 7:30 am got back at 6 pm. But if you’re looking for a good value and a getaway from the city for awhile, this is a great experience. Very historic, and beautiful views. Extremely knowledgeable tour guide as well. Loved this experience!

Dover Castle a Must See!!!!!

LOVED this tour. The cliffs of Dover were beautiful, we had enough time to hike down path and get photo's. Dover Castle was awesome. WWII history was fascinating! Canterbury town was great with little shops and lunch options. We had just seen Westminister Abbey and opted to visit the town instead of the Cathedral. It looked beautiful from outside.

Sounded great

Unfortunately we were unable to go on the tour because of illness and it was too late to cancel. We were so looking forward to the tour because it sounded amazing. Maybe next time.
