Went to pray and light a candle. Told would cost UKP25. I did not go to gawk at a lot of gawking tourists who seem to take precedence. I did not wish to explain my circumstances. Would have made a donation but paying to pray, is surely anathema? John 2:15–16 and Matthew 21:12–13, come to mind.

St. Paul's Cathedral - BEAUTFUL!

I booked the St. Paul's Cathedral tour a few months before my trip. Viator kept in contact and reminded me when time was time for my tour. The ticket code was in the email. So easy to find and use. St. Paul's is beautiful! Very easy to tour on your own with the audio.

Well worth the money

Although in principal I am against churches charging entry, I do understand that it costs a lot of money to maintain . I did the climb to the very top , pacing myself, even so it is an effort and anyone with a heart condition would do well to use the lift. Once at the top the view is of our wonderful capital and it is lovely. The cathedral as well deserves time spent gazing, it is beautiful, for those of the disposition the historical artefacts are well worth seeing Nelson, Wellington etc the names reel off ones old history lessons

St. Paul's is beautiful. The tour guide was entertaining but we did not get the 90 minutes we paid for.

Great time

Great time! Very peaceful experience. Had some trouble with our tickets but the Registration desk was very helpful.

St Paul’s Cathedral so worth seeing.

Bit of confusion at entrance as there was no obvious line for prepaid tickets but soon got sorted. Then had to get new tickets once inside. The Cathedral was clean and beautiful. Good rest area and bathroom facilities etc. lovely experience.

Worth The Price

St. Paul's is a beautiful Cathedral! We purchased the family ticket which includes 1 adult and 2 or 3 children for £35. Staff provided us each a headset for a self-guided tour. The handheld device was relatively easy to operate and the audio was informative. There are three main areas for visitors to explore. First is the Cathedral floor where daily services are held. While we did not attend a service, we were able to light a candle and say a prayer near the entrance! The second is the Crypt where memorials for the deceased are located and which includes the shop and a food/beverage stand. And, finally there is the iconic Dome. We underestimated the amount of steps that lead to its different levels. We climbed only to the Whispering Gallery, the shortest ascent at 257 steps out of 528 total to the top of the Dome. There are not many places to stop once walking up and photos are not permitted in that section. If you like a Church setting, appreciate architecture, or want to learn more about the history of one of London's famous landmarks, the Cathedral is a great place to visit!

Great visit to an historic cathedral.

My wife and I had a wonderful visit to St. Paul's during our stay in London. We are not religious people in any way. But the cathedral is an incredible building filled with so much history. I would definitely recommend going on the tour, which is included in your admission to St. Paul's. The staff at the cathedral was extremely nice.

A must visit to this iconic Cathedral

As we traveled by train we had half priced admission to the Cathedral. I realise that funding is obtained via these fees but full price is quite expensive and we only stayed for about 2 hours including a cafe visit. Of course the Cathedral is an iconic building and must be supported and we enjoyed our visit and enjoyed the visit. On entry it wasn’t immediately obvious where to go for a guided tour which would have enhanced our experience

Much more than I expected

I've seen the outside of the cathedral before, but this was my 1st visit inside. I had been told by a local to not to bother buying a ticket to see the inside, but we did anyway. So so glad we did. It was much more than I expected. The architecture is just magnificent. Looking at 27 foot high doors, beautiful stained glass window, high high ceiling and thinking of the people that the skill and know-with all to build this is just something else. The audio guide here is quite helpful as are the people at the information desk. My husband did walk up the 528 stairs to the very top. He admitted it is quite a challenge because as you go up the stairs are narrower as is the space to walk. So the problem isn't just the number of steps, but the size of the steps, as well as the height and width of the walkway. The walk up to the Whispering level isn't bad and you could come down from there, but up the next two levels is quite the challenge. The pictures he took from the top are great, but he said at times he had to be extremely careful of his footing. Famous people to be found in the crypts are: Florence Nightingale, Duke Wellington, Horatio Nelson, and Christopher Wren the builder of this and many buildings in Britain. This is another one of those experiences where you are walking in the actual footsteps of historical people- this is where Martin Luther King and his wife each spoke from the pulpit, Princess Diana and Prince Charles (at the time) got married. Looking at the front steps and the front door and remembering the pictures of her going up the steps into the cathedral and down the aisle to the high alter is very touching. Another thing we found interesting in the crypts was a historical timeline starting in the 900s and going to 2003 highlighting key local and world events. So happy we bought the ticket to go inside!

It costs you to take pictures

A great landmark in London. However, to visit inside it will cost you around 15 Pound. The only other way to see inside, free, is to part-take of a service, which is what we did for Evensong. Lovely choir music with some readings. You were not allowed to take photos during the service, which I agree with, but staying around after the service to take pictures, you ran the gauntlet of the church volunteers who were keen to "move you on". Lovely church inside for a CoE church, but still palls into insignificance to the Catholic churches we have seen, especially Westminster Cathedral (not to be confused with Westminster Abby). That was a beautiful church and cost nothing to enter to take pictures.

Great tour and guide

Harry was a lovely guide. He was knowledgeable, answered all our questions, and kept the tour running smoothly.

You won’t be disappointed, amazing building, great staff and good value.

Amazing, one of the best value attractions I London. We had a 2 hour tour (included within admission) by Vivienne. She was humorous, knowledgable, friendly and engaging (thanks Vivienne). Preferred this to walking around with headphones and nice to have the option. Went right up to the top of the dome (independently of the guided tour)….warning, you need to be pretty fit and have a head for heights to do this! Well done, we both voted this one of the best attractions during our 5 day trip. Thank you! Allow around 4 hours for a visit, 2 hours for guided tour, 2 hours to look around yourself and possibly go up the dome and get a drink

amazing place, me my husbansd and chiuldren love cathedrals and this is no excpetion. bit busier than we'd like but its a busy city so what can we expect. LOVE LOVE LOVE coming here

Breathtaking architecture and stunning views after climbing over 500 steps to the top of the dome

Go no later than 10am to have a hassle-free entry without the huge queue to get in. I pre-booked my tickets using the 2for1 offer on National Rail. It is hugely impressive inside, you just need to stand for a bit and take it all in. But the best bit is the climb up (over 500 steps) all the way to the very top of the dome, where you can walk in a full circle right around to take in every possible vantage point of the city. You have 2 stop off points on the way up, where you get to take in the views (the first one is inside, looking down into the cathedral - no photos allowed on this level) and then another level up, where you walk outside right around the start of the dome (limited view through the stone pillars) before finally reaching the summit, where you can walk outside on a very narrow walkway around the dome and get unobstructed views of the city. There are plenty of seats on the way up and down (the narrow sections are one-way, so no awkward squeezing past people coming the other way). Please note that the second and third set of steps are steep and narrow and you can see right down as you climb up the metal section of spiral staircase. A lady in front of us had a bit of a panic attack and had to come back down, so don't do this if you have a genuine problem with heights. I can't believe that in these modern health and safety-obsessed times that they actually let you right up to the top. Book it now before the H&S police decide that we can't be trusted to not throw ourselves off the stairs and shut it down! It was a miserable rainy day when we did it, but it didn't dampen our enthusiasm for the whole experience but I will probably book it again when the weather is nice, just for the photos! To exit, you go down into the crypt and that is another experience in itself - there is also a nice-looking café down here but we had just stuffed ourselves with a hotel breakfast and so didn't need to stop here. When we came out at about 11.15am, there was a massive queue to get in - with people having to queue to get through the bag search in the pouring rain.

Stunning Cathedral, but skip the Golden Gallery

Did the self guided audio tour through this amazing Cathedral. Do take the 257 stairs up to the Whispering gallery it gives you an incredible inside view. Then continue and take steps up to the Stone gallery for a stunning outside view. The stairs that continue to the Golden gallery get very narrow and winding. Those stairs lead out side to a narrow walking space only wide enough for one person in some areas, so it is hard to pass people. Many people stop to take pictures and will not let others pass, even in the areas where you can pass.So we were stuck standing outside freezing on a cold and blustery day. I do not recommend going up to the Golden gallery.

My absolute favorite in London

My absolute favorite in London, such a beautiful design. And if you are sporty enough (and not claustrophobic and/or too afraid of heights), you can go up to the top of the cathedral to enjoy a breathtaking view on the city. And let's be honest, here you don't have to sell your kidney to buy an entry ticket like in Westminster Abbey 🙃

Worth the climb

I was on my way to The Tate and saw this cathedral and went inside without doing any research. I noticed there were people walking around at a higher level beneath the dome (the “whispering gallery”)…. So I went up a large spiral staircase. The whispering gallery cool in itself. But to my surprise there were signs to go through this little door to climb higher up a series of narrow old spiral staircases to the “Stone Gallery” which led to an observation deck with great views of London. Then again to my surprise, there was an entry to some very narrow iron-grated staircases that went all the way up to the top spire of the dome for the “Golden Gallery.” The last set of staircases was a surprisingly challenging climb (and not suitable for those with fear of heights) …. But I very much enjoyed the unexpected adventure

No visitors took place due to lack of service on their part

It was good we didn’t have a slotted time slot. However when we could fit in our visit we got caught up with the demonstrations in Westminster so didn’t have enough time to visit St. Paul’s. I tried to reschedule but they would not allow or give a credit for another day. I did explain what happened but no response from them. Very poor service

If visiting with kids

We got a book for our kids Mission:London that helped them with London’s sightseeing spots, like a scavenger hunt. It kept them engaged. Kids are 11 and 12. They did make it to the top of the dome. Nice gift shop in the basement.

Highly recommend!

Our visit to St. Paul’s was a highlight of our trip to London. On arrival, we signed up for a guided tour with a cathedral volunteer at no additional charge. We were truly astonished at how fascinating this church is in myriad ways. The volunteer was not only knowledgeable, but thoroughly entertaining. This was a memorable experience that we highly recommend.

Don’t miss this! My favorite church in London.

Don’t miss this if you are in London. It was the not beautiful church we went to, and the atmosphere was so reverent and calming, and not packed with tourists like Westminster Abbey. We stayed for the evensong service, and sat in the choir area. We found it strange since we aren’t used to Anglican services, but it was definitely interesting. The whispering gallery was beautiful and the view from the dome was amazing, but not for people who get claustrophobic or who fear heights. The climb up is very narrow and steep.

Stunning

Stunning !!! The 529 step climb to the top is worth it as the views are incredible over London and amazing to climb inside the dome Space is limited though and of course you must be ok with heights The cathedral is a master piece with so much heritage Excellent gift shop I would highly recommend booking on line to avoid the queues

Visit the galleries

The ceilings are amazing, so much to see. The views from the top, the Golden Gallery, are great. It is quite high, up a lot of steps including a metal spiral staircase. Fortunately, the top sections are one way. This was much scarier than the London Eye, if you don't like heights. The cafe was only serving drinks and cake, when we went in the afternoon, however it was very nice cake.

Our visit to St. Paul's Cathedral left us in awe of its majestic scale and exquisite craftsmanship. The interior's refined details, from the intricate mosaics to the grand dome, were awe-inspiring. STUPID EXPENSIVE!

Families go here for the holidays to see the church as a monument of history. How can they charge that much for this. Many families turned around and left!

Just wow. So much history. It’s a monument to British history. I loved the views from the golden circle and would do it all again.

Must see

It is the iconic cathedral and one of the must-see places in London. It's very impressive inside, and its galleries are amazing. It is worth climbing the stairs to see the views from the top.

Beautiful Chapel

Beautiful chapel! We did the self guided tour which was very interesting and informative. With our tickets, we were able to climb the stairs to see the views of the city.

Iconic cathedral. Wonderful staff made the visit perfect!

Wonderful visit. The cathedral is stunning inside and out! But it was the stellar staff that made the visit so special! I had some confusion about the time interval for my visit and voiced a complaint to a very nice lady staffing the entrance that I felt our visit had been cut short. She was very patient to listen to my rant and politely explained that the reserved time was in military time and I had misinterpreted the time slot. She was correct, we had actually arrived late, but we didn’t realize it until the end of our time. The staff had been so accommodating that I never realized it until the cathedral was closing. The view from the upper gallery was awesome. Would highly recommend this venue!

Bummer tour

The tour guide seemed unwell as he could barely speak above a mumble and had to constantly either sit or lean. This was more a tour based on his personal opinions rather than one based on historical facts. We only saw monuments and the tour did not include either the galleries or the crypt. Really disappointing.

Impressive, but so very very expensive

A very impressive building. It is vast. Views from the top are expansive. Contrary to previous reviews, we found the staff to be very friendly. The entrance fee, however, is incredibly steep.

So worth the visit

Yes the money is worth it, yes the trip is worth it. I would strongly recommend the guided tours it brought everything to life and they are included in your ticket. An absolutely stunning piece of architecture and history of and for the people, yours sincerely, someone who usually thinks history/buildings and the like are a snooze fest!

Best London Cathedral

This cathedral holds a very special place in my heart. It was the first place I ever took my partner on his first visit to London and we got engaged on the cathedral steps last year. It’s a peaceful haven full of ornate mosaics, stunning statues and a very interesting crypt. All three galleries were open and the views from the golden gallery can’t be beaten. The shop has a huge array of unique items too. It’s a great place to escape miserable winter weather for a few hours.

A long awaited visit that was well worth the wait.

I am ashamed to say that it has taken me over 50 years to visit St Paul's but it was definitely worth the wait. What a beautiful, peaceful and calming building even though it was full of people. Our tour coincided with morning prayers and whilst I am not overly religious they added a positive, reflective dimension to the overall experience. Patrick, our tour guide, was excellent and made the tour fun, as well as informative. He is passionate about the cathedral and clearly loves his role and sharing his knowledge and experiences with visitors. I am pleased we chose the guided tour rather than just use the headsets. There is so much amazing history attached to this iconic landmark. The architecture and ceiling decorations are truly stunning. The Whispering Gallery was worth the hike up the 257 steps. We also visited the Crypt which is fascinating - not creepy at all. All in all a great day out.

Cathedral is impressive

St Paul's Cathedral was built from the plan of Christopher Wren, in 30 years. The cathedral's construction followed the Great Fire of London. The cathedral opened in 1711. The cathedral is impressive, as a center of the Church of England. The entry ticket is affordable.

Fascinating visit to St. Paul's

What an amazing place! Having not been there for many years, I thoroughly enjoyed looking around the cathedral. We had a great tour guide, who was very knowledgeable and talked us through the history of the cathedral in a very easy to understand way. I would thoroughly recommend a visit here

Exceptional views

Spectacular church. Lots of history and the audio guide was very good. I also climbed to the top of the dome to see the different perspective of London. It is a must see place to go in London.

Beautiful church - climb the dome!

The cathedral is beautiful and very impressive, if the price of admission is a little steep. It includes an audio guide, but after several days of tours we were audio-guided-out so we skipped it and just walked around the inside. They had a temporary art exhibit up which was neat. The highlight for me was climbing the 378 stairs (who's counting?) to the top of the dome. You do need to be prepared for this as there is no lift, and once past the first set of stairs to the Whispering Gallery they become very steep and narrow. The top was somewhat terrifying as it was windy and rainy but I'm glad I did it! And of course you exit through the gift shop.

Climbing to the top of St Pauls Cathedral

A visit to St Pauls had long been on my wish list including a climb to the top. Having reached the Whispering Gallery I felt concerned about how enclosed the higher stairs might feel. One of the staff (a team leader ) took the time and patience to encourage me to continue with reassurance that I had already completed the most enclosed but brief passage and that the subsequent stairs provided plenty of places to pause and let people pass if necessary. A big thank you to her and other colleagues for making my visit complete...I left with no regrets!

Couldn’t get the tickets to come up to scan luckily admissions let us in after a delay and waiting in ticket line when we already had tickets.

Awed and exercised

We showed up for the opening line, pre-ticketed online. Admission is smooth. This is one of the world's great structure. Hard to imagine how they built it centuries ago! We climbed to the very top of the dome. It set off some middle age vertigo, but well worth it! It's a challenging climb, and most of the trip is cramped and one way, so be forewarned. I learned a lot, and exited in a different state of mind.

Unbelievable history

Just excellent! Unbelievable history. Worth every penny. The history and architecture is humbling. Would recommend this to all Who visit London
