Great day at the rainforest. Oscar and the crew were wonderful. Just remember to read the fine print on what is included and what is extra.

Felt like family!

Our tour guide was great! Very accommodating and welcoming to my family especially my son. He made us feel like family. The only reason this doesn’t get 5 stars or the only thing that would have made this better is to include a local stop for a local snack instead of a typical Walmart. The store sold basically the same things as the United States.

Rainforest Day

We really enjoyed this excursion. Our guide was very good from the company and the two site guides were excellent as well.

Great day in Puerto Limon, Costa Rica

Oscar was our guide, and Jose was our driver. Both did a phenomenal job. Oscar's knowledge was excellent, and he was also quite entertaining. The only negative has nothing to do with Oscar. We felt that the Veragua portion could have been shorter and the river cruise longer. Overall, a great time.

Rainforest was great!

It was awesome seeing everything in their natural habitat. We saw 2 sloths, lots of different frogs that were beautiful as well as snakes & butterflies in the rainforest! Only gave it a 4 because of the long drive but it is what it is. I say the drive was worth it but be aware.

Pure Vida! Fall in love with Costa Rica!

Relax Day Tours was an exceptional experience for us. We were in a group of 6, and saw so much more wildlife than what was reported by the folks who took the cruise ship sponsored tours. Jorge was our guide, and he was amazing. Gabriel was our driver and he also did an outstanding job, pointing out wildlife on the canal portion of the tour that was absolutely amazing! There was a strike blocking the road to Veragua Rainforest, so Jorge asked if we wanted to wait to see if the road would clear, or if we wanted to go to Cahuita National Rainforest instead. We decided on the second option, and that place was truly magical! We were able to hike through the rainforest, stop at a beautiful beach, and have lunch at the park's restaurant (which was excellent!). Jorge also stopped at a local market where we could taste fresh bananas, drink freshly brewed Costa Rican coffee (which was less expensive than what they were selling at the port), and then purchase whatever souvenirs we wanted. The people working at the market were lovely, and so appreciative of us taking the time to stop by. I fell in love with Costa Rica, and can't wait to go back for an extended vacation to that beautiful country with its amazing people! Thanks to Relax Day Tours for a wonderful day! Pure Vida!

Amazing Costa Rica

Our hopes for our visit of wonderful Costa Rica were far exceeded. A fabulous one day visit hosted by Ernesto, our guide. Lovely man, asked all 6 of us sharing the tour what we wanted from the day and the more than achieved all our wishes. We started with quite a long drive some over dirt roads to take us to the Veragua Rain Forest. We past many country homes and small holdings, stopping many times for photo opportunities. Our very good driver even spotted a Sloth comfortably perched on a post near to an agricultural building. We stopped and achieved some wonderful photos. On arrival at the Veragua rain forest we were temporarily handed over to biologist Eric to show us an amazing amount of wild life and answer all our question. We saw another sloth at close range. Beautiful butterflys, snakes, tarantulas, lizards and wonderful scenery via a high wire gondola up in the trees. For those nervous of heights don’t worry you can sit and view well. It is very stable and safe feeling. We also enjoyed a lovely walk with Eric through the forest to a lovely waterfall. Afterwards were handed back over to our cheerful and informative mini bus team led by Ernesto for another fun journey to the water ways for our boat ride. Along the Tortuguero canals we were able o see lovely birds; some Caymans, Lizards ; Howler Monkeys and even another Sloth. Ernesto the returned us to the ship stopping off before to show us local shops and we all went into a lovely Cocoa sweet shop to buy some very nice local produce. The day was so good, my wife and I know we will have to come back to Costa Rica. The best day of a long holiday.

Decent Tour in Costa Rica

We did this as a shore excursion from our cruise ship. The drive to Veragua was long and, for a significant portion, bumpy and uncomfortable. The tour guide on the bus gave very little information about Costa Rica or the neighborhoods and areas we drove through on the way to the rainforest. The rainforest was beautiful, especially from the aerial tram, and the guides were very informative. Only saw frogs, snakes and birds…no larger animals. The Tortuguero Canal portion was disappointing. This is a man made canal near the port. The water was dirty and smelled. We did see some birds, a cayman and sloth but overall, we could have skipped this portion of the tour.

Excellent Excursion!

We had a great time on the Veragua Rainforest & Tortuguero Canals Shore Excursion, it was easy to find Esteban when we got off the cruise ship, he went above and beyond for us and made the excursion unforgettable. Throughout the drive with him, he pointed out several animals and facts about Costa Rica, we really enjoyed the sky ride across the rainforest, on the boat tour of the canals we got to see several animals, Esteban also took us to check out a few cool spots on the drive. Highly recommend. Check out the picture of our one-year-old son with him, he also really enjoyed the tour!

Breathtaking Veragua Rainforest

Hi guides, our trip to Veragua Rainforst on 02/06/2024 was breathtaking. The nature was overhelming. I've never been in a rainforest before. Unfortunatley it was raining a long time, but that doesn't matter. (recomondation take your raincaot with you) We had a young and friendly touristguide called Niki. She had a huge knowledge of all important facts and explained us a lot. If you aren't a native speaker you could understand her English very well. Our bus driver was also very freindly. We went by an 8 places bus . At the end of our trip we made a boats tour. Absolutly recommendable.

Treated special all day and saw so much’

So glad we went with this tour and not the one offered by the cruise ship! 4 of is in a minivan, first ones there and in the rainforest, personal guide there. Only 4 of us on the canal boat with the best guide zipping around while others chugged along. We saw so much more than others with the effort given to us. Felt special all day! Saw and heard monkeys, saw sloths, so many birds. The rainforest and displays were wonderful and explained by our guide. Great job!

Great excursion

Great excursion! We were able to be one of the first off the ship, and only had one other couple with us. This meant we beat the huge crowds to the rainforest. Our tour guide, Steven, was knowledgeable, friendly, and spoke good English. The canal we saw monkeys, sloths, and various species of birds. Our guide then took us to great local restaurant on the beach. Highly recommend!

Maria is the best! What a wonderful Experience

The whole experience was fantastic from start to finish. We were picked up outside of the port and driven to Veragua. We stopped on the way because the driver found a sloth that we were able to get out and see. we also so a snake in the road on the way up to the nature preserve. Our guide there was fantastic and we learned so much. The aerial tram was beautiful. After wards we were driven to the Tortuguero canals where we saw a Boa, sloths, iguanas, monkeys. During the drive time Maria was giving us great conservation information and about Costa Rica in general. She provided bananas, bottled water, and mango juice. But please bring snacks and food with you! There is no break or stops that have food so from 9am -5pm you will be without a meal. This excursion is worth doing and I highly recommend it to anyone visiting Limon.

First of all, our private...

First of all, our private driver, Steven, was excellent! He was a great guide and really worked at his English. He became a true friend. We loved the rainforest and the boat ride. He even took us to the beach to see the surf. The whole trip was wonderful!

Veraguas is great—tortugas canal not so great

The Veraguas rain forest was superb. The lift though the forest and the guide were both excellent. The tortugas canal was rather a waste of time. Maybe you could offer a trip with only the Veraguas part.

Book with Relax day tours

Book with relax day tours. We booked to see Tortuguero-canals and Cahuita National Park. We had a super nice guide Steven, who bring us every where, and had nice comments about his beautiful country and he'd wife Sandra. He brought use to the exceptional beach where we have such a nice lunch. We never ever had a tour we be able to compare with the service from Relax day tours. Service and punctuality in there mails. 👌💯% Service. Thanks again for the great experience.

Good but not excellent

It would be better if the tour guides can all speak English well. It was hard to understand one of the tour guides.

So so

Our experience was so so. We didn’t see much wildlife - no monkeys or sloths in the Rainforest and it is insanely expensive to enter. Our tour guide also did not speak English very well so it was very difficult to understand. On the tortugero canal there were some sloths and birds but way up in the trees so difficult to view. The boat ride was somewhat pleasant but there were houses knocked down recently that were inhabited by “narcos.” I overhead the guides speaking in Spanish. I’m not sure if the area is very safe. Also, there was a person in a boat intentionally creating a wake and zooming up and down the canal. I probably wouldn’t go ever again and really don’t recommend the tour. Spend your time in Manuel Antonio and you can hike on your own and see tons of wildlife and amazing beaches up close!

Happy guy, good tour

Good tour guide, took us around 1 hour to arrive in the park. He got us some water and juice as promised. Happy guy all around and explains alot about the country.

Veragua Rainforest Overbooked and Slow Lines to Everything

Booked this through Norwegian Cruise. If your lucky enough to get Michael as your bus tour guide, then good for you. The road there is a bit rough, but the bus smooths out the ride. Torguguero canals was good as we saw about 5 sloths within 100 yards. The reason for 3 stars is because Veragua Rainforest was overbooked their park on the day we visited. What should have taken 2-3 hours, took 5 and made us cut our Tortuguero canals excursion short, which was great even for the shorter time. We arrived back to our ship about 90 minutes late, but since it was booked through the ship, they really had to wait for us. So late arriving back at our ship that they had the bus pull all the way up on the dock, right next to the gangway. People on our cruise looking down from the ship actually cheered as we exited the bus because they knew the ship could finally leave for the next port.

Excellent rainforest walk and canal boat ride

Booked this trip through a cruise line. Picked up up at the dock and had a comfortable bus trip to the rainforest through local villages. Part of the trip was a gravel road, but seeing the local homes and flora/fauna on the way added to the feel of the trip. My wife was having problems with a recent hip replacement surgery and the staff at the beginning of the walk offered a free wheelchair for her. There seemed to be only one wheelchair there, so don't assume it will be available. The rainforest walk has two versions. A fairly flat boardwalk trip through the rainforest was guided by a informative guide who pointed out local things of interest. The other (which we did not take) had a trip to a waterfall with 175 steps to get to the waterfall. The butterfly house was amazing. After a hot lunch, we were bussed to theTortuguero Canals where we boarded a small river boat and in the short, smooth ride on the boat, we saw several sloths, howler and white faced monkeys who followed the boat, crocodile, and lizards. It was the highlight of the trip. Tony was our tour guide throughout the entire trip and was excellent.

Great Day with Rupert from Relax Tours

This is a fascinating tour for learning about flora and fauna around the Limon area. Veragua is a bit pricey - $155 with tax for two people, but they do have a nice butterfly area and reptile area, and the walking tour is pleasant. Be forewarned - it isn’t difficult, but there are a lot of stairs for those with mobility issues. We also struggled a bit with our guide (provided by Veragua) whose English was broken at times. I recommend Veragua but would not rate it 5 stars. It’s good, not great. Tortuguero Canals is a boat ride on a small river, but it is teaming with wildlife - sloths, monkeys, cayman, and many types of birds. My sense is that you will always see something there. Do note that this area is not remote - there are boats and homes on one side of the river, but it doesn’t appear to inhibit the wildlife. Relax Tours we found to be outstanding. They are waiting for you as soon as you leave the port with a sign. It appears that there are days that they use a bus, depending on the number of guests. On our tour, we were the only two and were in a pickup truck. The roads can be rough. Our tour guide, Rupert, was excellent. Ask for him. He was a local so knowledgeable about the area, his country, and the fauna and flora. He knew where to look and was very insightful. We found our day with him fascinating. Rupert gets 5 stars.

Great biodiversity and mobility friendly

Our guide, Rupert, was brilliant. He sighted sloths in the trees on our drive from the Veragua Rainforest, and stopped the van to select ylang ylang flowers from a tree and showed how tiny ferns snapped shut when he touched them. He also found howler monkeys and cayman on the Tortuguero canal. Driver Jorge was wonderful, helping us on and off the air conditioned van as needed. In the rainforest we had a dedicated guide, Mary. The walk down to the waterfall includes 350 steps so husband opted out and say at the gondola platform. The rainforest walk was on flat ground and takes 30 minutes there and back before reboarding the gondola. Gracias to Rupert, an electrician by trade who now works as a tax collector and to Jorge, ever the gentleman. An excellent tour for anyone interested in Costa Rican biodiversity (butterflies, reptiles, botany) and a good tour for those with mobility challenges. Pura Vida!

Rainforest Excursion - Excellent

The trip was well organized and our guide Juan Carlos was excellent. Relax Day tours operates this excursion and I would highly recommend it. They were flexible in what people asked for after the excursion and went out of their way to ensure a great local experience.

Just amazing and a very special christmas day

Frederico and Dinorah were just amazing guides and we had the most fabulous christmas day with them in 2022 - their expertise on the wildlife and plants is second to none and they made the day very relaxed and we saw far more than we could have ever imagined - spotting sloths at a distance is a real skill, especial;y the 2 mummy sloths looking after their babies in the trees - we just loved seeing all the animals, birds and plants in the natural environment and their attention to the care of the ecology of their local area. They ensured our comfort at all times and tweaked the intinerary to meet our needs. This was the highlight day of our two-week cruise and we will never forget the experience.

Beautiful landscapes

Juan Carlos was an excellent guide and very friendly and fun. The rainforest was beautiful to see and it was not buggy. I enjoyed the butterfly and frog exhibits and the waterfalls. We did not see animals close. However during the boat ride in the canal we saw lots of sloths, monkeys, and beautiful birds and lizards in the wild. Overall a very nice day.

This was the first time I...

This was the first time I used Viator while doing a cruise. Our guide, Steven, was excellent. We went to the rain forest and did a river ride as well. Would definitely do this again. Half the price of cruise ship!!

Poor customer service

You meet your driver once you exit the port and find him in the crowd of folks waiting. That went quite well. The van was pretty good with AC. The drive to the rain forest was about an hour and mostly on good roads. Nice local scenery and villages along the way. The rainforest itself was disappointing. You only walk about a 1/2 mile. The cage ride down the mountain at the top of the forest was good. They take you to some building which I did not care for (snakes, lizards, frogs, etc...). After the rainforest we were driven to the canal. (we did receive water and juice once we asked for it.). At the canal, it was very disorganized. We ended up on a boat with a full group of German tourists (no English explanations). The canal is just ok. Saw a couple of animals and birds.

A good combo for cruise visitors

Very good experience! We had an excellent time with some weird stuff but otherwise we had fun. Our tour operator was already waiting for us as soon we got out of the terminal and he had an spacious van. He told us about Puerto Limon as we left the city and went on our ways to the Veragua Rainforest. He also talked about his life and he enthusiastically showed us his recently built home before heading towards the reserve as its a bit far. As we closed up to the reserve, the tour operator put a lot of attention and allowed us to see sloths and birds in the nearby forest. The Veragua rainforest looks like a very nifty installation, very well manned and built, but sadly did not manage to find a single good bird to take photos of. On the other hand, we had a blast watching the butterfly, frog and snake enclosures. As well as the waterfall. Note, get an umbrella, poncho and comfy shoes as some of the routes can be challenging, specially when it rains.. which can happen ANYTME. The second part of our trip was to reach the tortuguero canal, which we arrived to a small fishing port, got to a boat with another tour group operated by the same company and we got our way with 2 tour guides and the captain. The tour operators did a spiel explaining the story and what you can see in the canal. We did not manage to watch turtles as most of them are in the morning and out in specified months, but we managed to see some local fauna and plenty of birds. Also some monkeys and slots.

Awesome Adventure

This was a great time. The guide was great and told us a lot about Costa Rica. We went with four other people and they had a great time also.

The Tortuguero Csnals was...

The Tortuguero Csnals was mh favorite part of the trip. As you can see by the pictures, our guide Juan Carlos got up close and personal with a sloth. It was fantastic. Juan Carlos was a fabulous tour guide. He told us so many interesting facts about Panama, the canal and the rainforest. He spoke very good English. Jaun Carlos met us at the port with a sign with our name on it. We felt very comfortable about going with him. Our private tour had 12 people compared to the cruise excursion of 35-40 people. We even had time to do a little shopping before he took us back to the port. My husband has trouble walking long distances, so Juan Carlos took us right up to the dock! I can't say enough good things about this trip. It was really spectacular.

Book this excursion and avoid the mega tour buses!

I'm so glad we booked this excursion. It was intimate (only 4 tourists and 2 guides) and very informative. We traveled to the rain forest in a 6 passenger van which easily navigated the gravel roads. Our tour guide went on the rain forest tour with us. We were short on time, but our guides managed to get in a quick canal tour so we could see the monkeys and sloths. Once again, our canal tour was cozy and intimate. We very much enjoyed our time with the guides, thank you!

Fantastic Day in Costa Rica

We had the pleasure of doing a tour last week with Relax Day Tours. Federico and Jorge were amazing!! Federico was so personable and spoke English very well. He was excellent at explaining animal habits, the culture of Costa Rica, and farming techniques and information. He was there at the dock exactly where he said he would be, holding a sign. His directions for us to follow to find him were perfect. Jorge was great at finding wildlife on the sides of the road and also while in the canal. The first thing I told Federico when we got in the van was that I really wanted to see a sloth. Well, they made that dream come true! I saw several. It was truly amazing to see them in person. They were high in the trees and most were sleeping, but we were lucky enough to discover one in the canals that was crawling around in the tree! The Veragua Rainforest was breathtaking. FYI, your Relax Day guides do not accompany you into the rainforest. You are handed off to the guides that work for the rainforest and they will accompany you through the area. But, Federico walked with us to the entrance, introduced and handed us off to our guide there, and he was right there waiting at the exit as we left. So much beauty at the rainforest, as well as many different types of small wildlife. In the Tortuguero Canal, we took Federico's boat and found iguanas, many bird species, sloths, and even a howler monkey or two. Again, Jorge was great at spotting things and Federico was great at making sure we got up close to see the animals and get some photos. Not only did we go to the rainforest and the canals, but we did a little mini city tour, and he took us to a restaurant up on the hill overlooking the bay and the ship. Amazing photo op there. We relaxed and enjoyed a beverage, and then he also stopped at a supermarket in town where we could stock up on a few things to take back with us on the ship. Oh, and we also stopped for a few minutes at the beach to enjoy the beauty. We could have stayed longer, but we just wanted to get a quick picture. Federico never once made us feel rushed during our day with him, and he was eager and happy to tailor anything we wanted. This excursion was the highlight of our 17 days on the seas. I cannot recommend this tour company enough. The next time we find ourselves in Puerto Limon we will definitely contact Relax Day Tours again to do a different excursion with them. Book a tour, you won't be sorry!

Rainforest/canal

We booked this the night before our cruise ship arrived in port. The reply and instructions came to my email pretty fast. Our guide met us and we were the only 2 with him in the air conditioned.vehicle. The road to tha rainforest was quite bumpy-glad we weren’t in a bus! The rainforest was easy to walk with wood and concrete paths. Our guide was very informative. The canal was a great experience seeing sloths, birds, iguanas, and the guide was very explanattive. He also had us sample local fruit. Then the guide and driver took us on a city tour. We went to a local empanada shop and ate. Our guide was great! He offered to take us anywhere we wanted to go. I would definitely recommend this tour!

They dropped the ball on safety

We enjoyed our trip. However we encountered a flat tire and the tour company did not have the proper equipment to change the tire. They had to walk to find someone who had the equipment. Safety should be the most important thing for a tour operator and I feel like they really dropped the ball on this.

Very good time in Veragua!

Enjoyed seeing monkeys and beautiful flowers and butterflies. Our driver Rupert had eagle eyes and spoke excellent English.

Esteban was fantastic! Better than the tour booked through the cruiseline.

We had such a great time and ended up with a private tour with Esteban. We watched the people from the ship experience the same things, only in a large group with lines and a crowded bus. We also paid less! We saw sloths and toucans. Highly recommended! Ask for Esteban. He told us so much about the local area and had a great sense of humor.

Great excursion!!

Great tour with a wonderful host. He went above and beyond what you would have received from the cruise tours. Rainforest was nice but the canal cruise seeing holwer monkeys and sloths in the wild was a highlight of the trip!!

Costa Rica Shore Excursion

We booked this excursion outside of the cruise line and were very pleased. The whole trip was delightful. The tour guide Fredrico was pleasant and knowledgeable and our driver George was excellent. We would highly recommend!

Excellent tour with Juan and Soto

We had an excellent tour with our tour guide, Juan and driver, Soto. They were both very professional and were there at the port waiting to meet us as soon as the ship docked so that we got to the rainforest before the crowds. They had a comfortable air conditioned van. Soto had an eagle eye for seeing sloths in the trees which was amazing. Juan gave us much background information about his country & was very polite & well mannered. He kept us hydrated with cool fruit juice & even took us on a photo opp on the beach. They both made sure that we all got back to the port on time which is very important. I would totally recommend Relax Day tours & Juan & Soto and use them again if I was in the area.

Excellent tour by Juan and Soto

This was an excellent tour. We had Juan as our guide and Soto as our driver. They were very professional & managed to get us to the rainforest before the crowds. Soto had an eagle eye for seeing sloths in trees & was an excellent driver. Juan gave us a lot of background information & was polite & kept us refreshed with cool drinks. They made sure that we were back to the ship on time & even took us to a nice photo opp on the beach. I would totally recommend these two and would use them again if in the area.

Enjoyable tour

We were met at the cruise terminal quickly and easily. We got away before all the cruise line tours and beat the bus crowds at the rainforest. The price ( once you paid the rainforest entrance fee was similar) Our guide's English was easy to understand and he gave us lots of information on the bus ride to the rainforest. The rainforest tour guide was very knowledgable but we did not see a single animal ( outside the caged snakes and frogs) along our paved walkway walk. The tram ride was enjoyable as was the hike to the waterfall. The waterfall hike sign warned there were hundreds of steps ( stairs) but in actuality it was about half that number. The canal tour guide was excellent at finding many animals ( many lizards, monkeys, birds) and our boat seemed to be one of the nicer ones. It would have been nice to have longer than the hour here because we did not get very far up the canal in the time allotted.

Great Tour Company & beautiful Rainforest

We visited Puerto Limon, Costa Rica on January 2, 2020. I made reservations in advance with Frederico from Relax Day Tours. He offered us many different packages and we decided on a private bus tour of the city area and the Veragua Rainforest tour with tram/exhibits. We were met with our name on a sign just outside the port gates by our tour guide. He was EXCELLENT!!!! He and the driver were absolutely AMAZING at finding wildlife in trees and along the road during our drive to the Rainforest. We saw 2 toed sloths and 3 toed sloths and more monkeys than we can count! All in the wild while driving around!!!! We did the rainforest tour - which was $72 USD to get into (that is the park fee, it has nothing to do with Relax Day Tours). The rainforest is beautiful, but we did not see much. The exhibits have snakes, a butterfly house and insect exhibits - all of which are found naturally in the rainforest, but we only saw them in the glass enclosures. The tram ride to the waterfall was also very pretty and we saw 1 sloth, but in all truth our guides showed us so more in the wild along the road. So, yes, the rainforest was nice, but not worth the cost really. The tour company guide/driver were MUCH MORE informative and better at finding wildlife. I HIGHLY recommend Relax Day tours. I would 100% use them again!

Great Excursion

We booked via Princess so I hope this review is about the right company. This the tour we took and we enjoyed it immensely. The guide, Edrei, was informative and engaged. He moved to tour at a decent, but not rushed pace, provide good narratives and was very good. The Rainforest portion of the tor took the majority of the time and included two long bus rides over some bumpy, narrow, winding roads. Our driver was (thankfully) very skilled and Edrei helped pass the time well with stories and demos. A spoiler, if you have him, you may never view chocolate quite the same again. The time at the rainforest included a couple of brief lectures by staff / scholar / naturalists with real insight into the ecosystem and the University Foundations efforts at preservation and conservation. We toured a large number of exhibits, had a nice tram ride down and back up,(thank goodness!) about 3300 feet to a small creek and trail leading to a waterfall. My wife took the hike to the falls and reported they were quite pretty, but assured me I made the right choice to rest and watch a toucan in a tree near the tram station. Tour included a decent lunch. From the Rainforest we made to the journey to the Canals for a pleasant ride on a boat - spotted several interesting birds, a couple of sloths (one a mother with a baby) and a few monkeys - no caiman or crocs. The ride was pleasant and a good ending to a long day. We returned to a welcomed, refreshing array of fresh fruit prior to the short drive back to the ship. If you are on a cruise ship that offers this excursion, it is strongly recommended,

Great tour but didn’t see many things

This tour was worth the money but we didn’t see a lot of things. We saw a slough and lots of nature. Didnt really see anything of interest when we toured the canals by boat.

Memorable!

Our guide Rupert picked us up at the cruise ship & entertained us for about an hour on our car trip to tithe Rainforest with fascinating facts about the area. Quite expensive entrance fees to the Rainforest, as it is a private park, but it was well worth it. Eder, our guide was very knowledgeable and we saw wildlife +++, flowers, butterflies & generally learned heaps about the rainforest. The Canal trip was nice but not as brilliant as the Rainforest.
