Sloths and Howler Monkeys

Our tour guide Pablo did an outstanding job teaching us about the history and animals of Costa Rica. He included humorous stories whenever they fit, and had us all laughing. Our boat tour featured driver Danny, who has the ability to spot a tiny creature from 20 yards away. He landed us right beside a nesting bird, and spotted an iguana about six inches long under a canopy of leaves. The banana plantation tour was terrific, and Pablo knew all the plants and their uses. Best tour we’ve had.

Nice day of country excursions

Our tour included a stop to view a slow-moving sloth on the way to the Tortuguero Canal tour which was filled with bird observations and some monkeys picking bananas. The plantation visit was very informative, however is more just a smapling of a plantation.

Amazing tour

This was our third visit to Costa Rica. Our guide was outstanding. His love of his country and his enthusiasm to share his knowledge made this tour beyond 5 stars. Best tour of our cruise.

Educational and lots of opportunities to spot animals

We were visiting off of a cruise ship and had to walk completely outside the pier area to meet a tour representative who escorted us to our minibus for the day. Our trip leader, Ariel, provided us with lots of information about Costa Rica as we drove down the coast for about 45 minutes to the Cahuita National Park which trail starts at the edge of the local town. There were bathrooms available at the park entrance along with concessions. The trail was a fairly flat and well marked trail. Our guide helped point out wildlife along the way. We were able to spot 3-toed sloths ( very high up the trees), orb spiders who made several large webs along the trail, some monkeys, as well as industrious ants and a resting yellow eyelash viper. Next, we stopped at an organic banana plantation where we were able to sample a few fresh bananas as well as have the coffee, cocoa bean, and banana growth and exports explained to us. Finally, we were driven to the Tortoguero National park where we boarded a boat for a cruise along the canal where we were fortunate enough to see a few caiman, a “Jesus Christ” Basilisk, howler monkeys, and a two-toed sloth.

Sloths, Bananas, and Rain Forests… Oh My!

Really enjoyed the tour. Was a great way to experience Limon, Costa Rica in just a few hours. The tour guides were awesome and shared a lot of great facts!

Great tour of the Puerto Limon area while in port

We took this excursion while in Costa Rica and had a great time. Berto was our guide and first took us to the canal where we saw several howler monkeys, sloths, a crocodile. He pointed out a toucan, but it was fairly high in the tree and difficult to see. Following the boat ride, we were served fresh fruit: watermelon, papaya and pineapple. We then headed to a banana "plantation" where we were served organic bananas and had a chance to sample Costa Rican coffee. The banana fields were not very large, but Alberto was able to inform us of the growing and harvesting processes which was very interesting. Our next stop was a rain forest which borders the Caribbean Sea where we saw Capuchin monkeys, raccoons and other wildlife. The tour was great and Berto did a great job. The tour left the port at 8:00 as scheduled (9:00 "ship time") which caused some confusion from some of our fellow travelers, but we returned in plenty of time to shop the craft market before returning to the ship. Also, a couple tours were combined onto one bus due to logistics which bothered some, but we were able to see more than the tour promised. It was a great day in Costa Rica.

Amazing guide, excellent bus, unfortunate delays

Guide Berto was amazing, the bus itself was excellent and the in summary the tour was superb. On the other hand, the Greenway office decision-making proved to be frustrating and disappointing. This was a purchased tour during a cruise ship stop. So limited time ashore. Our ticket was for 8am and we were at the designated pickup place at 8am and boarded the bus shortly afterwards. However “the office” made the decision to wait for more people (seemingly the 9am group) and so we had to wait on the bus for an hour before we departed. Unacceptable. Unfortunately, our guide Berto was left to take the heat from the load of on time 8am passengers who were clearly unhappy about a 1 hour delay. On the plus side this was probably the best tour bus I have ever ridden. It looked brand new. Seats that reclined. Excellent air conditioning. And guide Berto succeeded in calming the unhappy guests with his amazing communication skills. He was very knowledgeable. And reassuring for salvaging our schedule and ensuring we would be back at the ship on time. He proved to be a truly excellent and professional guide. He saved the day on this one. The tour was exactly what we wanted to include close at hand sloths, caimans (crocs), birds, spiders and even a snake. There was a very informative tour of a banana, coffee and cacao plantation. A stunningly well done boat ride in a jungle supported excellent photo opportunities. And a jungle walk which provided additional photo experiences. The only unfortunate part of this experience was that someone in the Greenway office made the decision that we needed to sit on the bus for an hour while they rounded up more passengers. Otherwise, the guide and the bus and the experience was stellar.

Great Eco Tour

We saw lots of wildlife, including sloths, and monkeys. Our guide, Alberto, did a wonderful job. He has the right personality and enthusiasm to be a really great guide. The tour included a boat trip on the canal, a visit to a organic plantation as well as a visit to a national park. We enjoyed all aspects of the tour and highly recommend it.

Top Tour with Top Tour Guide with No Worries!

OMG!!! This was such a Fabulous Trip... Our tour guide Graybean and driver Eugene were the BEST..... we were concerned since the cruise lines always scare you that other tour operators booked off ship may get you back to late, etc.... we did not need to worry.... they were there to pick us up before time, and had us back in time to do some extra shopping if we wanted back at the pier. Graybean knew everything about Costa Rica, the people, religions, animals, plants, etc in an exciting and learning way which was Fun! He was always looking for different animals to insure to show us... even those hidden... he would stop and make sure we all had a chance to see. We saw so many different types of animals, plants, beach, and so much more. We had other friends on the ship that took the cruise tours and they did not see 1/2 as much as we did.

Great Experience

Alberto made our trip a wonderful experience. He is so personal, attentive, knowledgeable, and in our opinion went above our expectations. We saw so much wildlife due to his amazing keen eyes. Alberto and our driver Eugene were simply the best.

A great tour with a Great Guide

The canal tour and train ride took us past forests filled with sloths (4 found), birds and reptiles on branches. Our boat guide's "eagle eyes" spotted these out to us. the train ride through the banana fields, forest and along the coastline was equally enjoyable with groups of monkeys just feet from us in the trees. Of course, each trip is going to be different. The guides are very informative and offer information about the ecology, banana and chocolate production.

This was a very exciting tour. Steven was an awesome tour guide. He was very knowledgable. We went to the by a banana plantation and learned how banana are grown and harvested. The rain forest was amazing. We seen lots of sloths, birds, and many different wildlife. The Tortugero canal boat ride was absolutely amazing. Lots of different wild life. The highlight of this tour that amazed us so much was the boat driver Charlie pulled the boat up under a sloth about 5-6 feet over our head. It was totally breath taking to be that close to a sloth and watch it move. This tour was the best highlights of our trip.

A great excursion for everyone. We had a geart time. Our guide was very engaged with everyone on the trip.

I saw variety animals.

This is the first time jungle experience. I felt jungle mood, jungle river and variety animals such as monkeys, sloughs, iguanas, variety birds and so on.

Enjoyable and interesting

We started out with a train ride viewing the many banana plantations, then took an eco cruise to see the wildlife. We saw a baby alligator, many birds and sloths. On the way back our guide showed us banana flowers (that grown into the bananas) and chocolate beans. Really interesting tour.

So much fun

We had so much fun the day we were in Limon. We started out with a train ride through the banana farms, learning how the banana's are grown and cared for. Then we went on the wonderful Eco Cruise. Before we even got aboard the boat, we got to see a mom and baby 3 toes sloth and another adult 3 toes sloth with them. Then while we were on the boat, we saw all sorts of other animals (bats, caiman, birds, monkeys and even a 2 toes sloth that had come down to the ground to poop). It was one of the best days we had during this vacation trip. Fun, relaxing AND interesting.

What a waist of time, energy and money.. One hour cruise back and forth... we only saw some births and one tiny alligator... The banana plant age was nothing special and the stop at one of these awful tourist traps.....shops. Never again

Perfect tour - wonderful guide and driver

We squeezed onto the tour just a few days before the boat docked, but it was the first week bus was full, I would suggest reservations any other time. Wasn't clear: Greenway has been around a long time, but they are not one of the giant tour operators, so you walk through the others waiting at the end of the dock,, walk out the gate and across the street. Greenway was waiting there. I was impressed, even the guides from other companies helped out and pointed where Greenway was located, and during the day forest and canals I noticed guides from different companies letting each other know where the animals were visible that day. Our young gal was Imalay O, her English was great (she lived in Chicago two years) and she was a walking wiki on Costa Rica, everything from environment, to animals, people, history - well there isn't a lot of history around Port Limon. We saw three types of bats, two types of sloths (special surprise there), some small venomous vipers, termites, iguanas, howler monkeys, and lots of birds (same birds from California wintering in Costa Rica like my brother.) The driver, whose name I didn't write down, went out of his way every stop to point out side details.... and there may have been an extra 'stop' in his old neighborhood overlooking the harbor. We were back to the pier on time and had an hour to walk around the Parque Vargas park with some interesting art. Also saw my first "Paso de Touristas" (Tourist Crossing) sign for motorists. I'll send my friends bak to Greenway.. great company, great staff. J

Great Day in Costa Rica

We were on a Holland American cruise to the Panama Canal and had a stop in Limon on the way back. I searched TripAdvisor for a short excursion and picked this one. Very efficient pick up at the port. Luis was a great guide and the itinerary was perfect for us. Saw a lot of Sloths and Monkeys. Saw cool birds and a big Cayman in the canals. Place we stopped for lunch was good. greT value for the money, highly recommend.

<p>Our guide was very knowledgeable and able to answer any questions. In Cahuita National Park, He pointed out a lot of animals different monkeys, etc. and other things like hermit crabs and even a yellow eyelash pit viper snake up in a tree! We spent very little time at the banana plantation but the boat trip was very fun and interesting. We saw Howler monkeys, iguanas, a Black Hawk and more.Highly recommend if you really love nature!</p>

Falsche Beschreibung

Die Beschreibung entspricht leider nicht der effektiven Tour. Wir waren rund 7 Stunden unterwegs. Weiter steht nichts davon, dass man den Cahuita Nationalpark besucht. Da wir diesen Park bereits besucht haben, war es für uns eine Zeitverschwendung. Der Guide war gut.

Zeer goede gids maar excursie ingekort wegens 1 koppel van een ander schip.

Eerste deel was Cahuita Park. Mooie begeleide wandeling van een uur in het Nationale Park. En terug over het strand als je wilde. Was heel mooi en rustig. Daarna met het busje naar een bananenplantage, alsook cacao-en koffiebonen-planten. Prima uitleg door onze gids. Heel interessant. Hij sprak zeer duidelijk Engels. We reden verder naar de Tortugero-kanalen. Alles moet nu een beetje haastig omdat 1! koppel van een ander schip kwam en daardoor moesten we al vroeger terug zijn. Was niet volgens de afspraak vooraf. Het varen door de kanalen was aangenaam maar te kort. We hebben enkele apen en een luiaard en een kleine kaaiman gezien. Beetje teleurgesteld toen. In de bus zelf zeer goede en veel uitleg door onze gids over Costa Rica (Pura Vida) en al de aspecten van onderwijs enz. Proficiat voor de gids. Besluit: aan te raden als de groep van 1 schip komt en hetzelfde uur moet aanhouden. Wij zaten op Norwegian jewel.
