Great experience! We walked in the jungle around Punta Uva, saw many sloths and some howler monkeys, then kayaked down the river where we saw turtles and a baby caiman, as well as some birds. Jara (apologies if I spell her name wrong) is very knowledgeable about the wildlife and local history. I would highly recommend this activity!

Don’t think, just do it.

This tour was incredible. Yara was so knowledgeable and we learned so much about the nature and history of the Caribbean during our hike. This tour left us with a new appreciation for the wildlife and the people of the Caribbean. The kayaking tour SO COOL, we saw howler monkeys, mating yellow rat snakes, lots of turtles, a baby sloth, an iguana, and many more amazing creatures. Do this tour.

Amazing afternoon in the jungle.

Yara was fantastic, very informative and fun. We saw lots of animals and got a real insight into the area. I would recommend this tour to everyone, we definitely got our moneys worth, it felt like a private tour.

Incredible tour despite stormy conditions!

Yara is an excellent tour guys and our whole group of 7 had a great time. Our age range was wide from my parents to my three kids ages 10, 8 and 5 and Yara knows how to make it an enjoyable experience for all. We had some rain during our tour, which only made it all the more memorable. Yara was extremely communicative and knowledgeable. We would highly recommend this tour!

This was the highlight of...

This was the highlight of our time in Puerto Viejo!! Yara was AMAZING - it was our first time in Costa Rica and we do not speak Spanish so her welcoming attitude and superb English and humor were perfect introductions to the pura vida lifestyle! On our “hike” we saw a boa constrictor we never would have noticed without her. One thing to note is there are two spots that are pretty steep on the hike so be prepared to lunge up. The kayak down the canal was so relaxing and a wonderful next half of the experience. I saw so much and learned so much, filling up 3 pages of my journal after with all the facts we learned about Costa Rican history, sloths, cacao and other flora and fauna, even indigenous tribes and Afro-Caribbean cultures. I especially appreciated how she fielded questions from the people on the tour- you can tell she isn’t just reciting facts but truly knows and cares a lot about the area and culture. The next day we went to Cahuita National Park and didn’t need to hire a guide because we overheard them telling visitors the exact same facts (but with less detail and ~flair~ as Yara). At the end of the experience, she brought out coconuts and machete-ed them open for us to toast and drink for an amazing day. She was wonderful! Can’t believe I booked this 12 hours prior on a whim and cannot recommend this enough.

Yara was so lovely and welcoming and has so much knowledge of the plants, animals and local culture. We saw a bunch of animals from sloths to spider monkeys. 10/10 would send all our friends to Yara for a guided experience like this.

A must if you want to see sloths

This is a great tour and I would highly recommend it to anyone who loves animals and wants to learn about Costa Rican nature. We saw many sloths, turtles, monkeys and a baby caiman. Yara is an amazing tour guide, very knowledgeable about flora and fauna but also offers lots of tips about where to eat and places to visit.

Great tour, so many animal sightings!

Wonderful tour, my husband and I really enjoyed it! We saw so many animals that we wouldn’t have spotted without our guide. We learned a lot of facts and our guide was always ready to answer any question. I highly recommend this tour.

Highlight of our Costa Rica trip

We had a really great day with Yara! She's super passionate about the area and knows a lot about the wildlife. We managed to see a lot of animals including sloths, toucan and monkeys. Overall the activity has been one of our Costa Rica highlights. Highly recommend ☺️

The hiking and kayaking was challenging but I did enjoy very much. Our English speaking guide Yara was very pleasant and knowledgeable.

The lookout point offered a great view of the ocean, and kayaking on the river was so peaceful. We also kayaked in the crystal-clear sea. The tour was amazing we learned a lot of information about the culture, animals, native plants and fruits. The guide was very knowledgeable and it helped a lot that she could explain to us the names of things in Spanish as well as in English. I 100% recommend!

The view from the lookout was breathtaking, and kayaking on the river was a peaceful escape into nature. The sea kayaking was an incredible experience with the clear waters. Simply wow! I’ve been on a tour with Yara and had the best time! Expectations exceeded by far! Yara puts all her positive energy into it and will make sure you have the best time! Awesome wildlife afternoon

Wonderful afternoon activity. In our 3rd Costa Rican location, we finally saw sloths! We saw two- and three-toed sloths, howler monkeys, turtles, a toucan, egret, and more. Gorgeous views, and really enjoyed kayaking the river for a chill way to see wildlife. Great activity with kids too.

Yara is a gem! She has the heart of a true nature lover and she’s just as genuine with people. She was responsive soon after the tour was booked and was able to be flexible when my daughter was ill. I felt like the tour was led by a trusted friend, whose knowledge of the natural surroundings of Puerto Viejo was without question. We saw sloths (even a baby!), tropical birds, raptors, turtles, howler monkeys, spider monkeys, and oh, so much greenery! If you’re still deciding on a tour, CHOOSE YARA! You won’t regret it. We had an amazing time! She is a great guide…full of passion, friendliness, and pure joy of nature ❤️ I feel blessed to have met her.

Pura vida in a kayak

We started the tour with a lovely walkabout on the beachside and up to the cliffs, where Yara spotted multiple sloths for us. That way we also got to see a more private beach behind the rock - and learn about jose hansel and the indigenous and black histories respectively When we entered the kayak after we got away from beach and bridge it was mostly us 3 and the jungle (oh and countless and various animals - you’ll have to find out yourself;)) It was so relaxing and nice, Yara is an excellent guide and host to pura vida and a lovely person altogether Highly recommended!

Yara was an amazing tour guide and knew where to find all the animals. She is extremely knowledgeable about the local wildlife and plant life, which we learned a lot about on the tour. Yara is very nice and easy to talk to if you have any questions. We are nature and animal lovers and could tell that Yara was very in tune with nature and really cares about the environment, so we really appreciated that we were able to share this experience with her. We had so much fun on the hike, as well as kayaking on the river and got to see so many sloths and many other animals. We highly recommend doing a tour with Yara! You won't regret it!

I had the most incredible tour with Yara! I did the Punta Uva hiking and kayaking tour, and was able to see countless sloths and several baby sloths as well! Yara is so knowledgeable about local wildlife and history, and does an incredible job and respecting the land through sustainable tourism. I would highly recommend Yara to anyone who is looking to take a tour in the Puerto Viejo area!

Serene River Kayak Exploring

Yara is so clearly in-tune with nature the way she explains the environment and animals, spotting hidden, sleeping sloths and birds in the trees and knowing exactly where to look to show little frogs and special plants. Her vibe is calm and confident and makes the whole experience relaxing and inspiring! Before kayaking the river where we saw countless birds, turtles, fish, frogs and crabs, we took a little hike up to the Punta Uva cave while Yara explained the significance of the species of wildlife around us. It was easy, beautiful, and relaxing while still feeling that sense of adventure and the opportunity to explore and discover new things about the world around you. I highly recommend taking a tour with Yara — you won’t forget the experience!

Yara was the best tour guide to explore the nature of puerto viejo. She knew and explained a lot about animals and plants so we learned a lot during the tour. It was great spending time with her, we fully recommend Yaras Tour!

Explore the jungle with Yara on kayak and by walking

We can highly recomend to book this tour! Yara as guid could show and explain us a lot about the local nature and culture. Paddeling up the river through the jungle was amazing and we could see a lot of wildlife. We booked the tour the day before, so Yara haven't seen the booking first, but through contact by whatsapp we could get the tour a bit later, if you book short it advance I would recommend to send a message directly to her for being sure.

We loved the tour we had with Yara last summer

We went on a wonderful little hike at Punta Uva followed by a Kayak trip down the river. The sloths and brightly colored lizards were of course very cute, but most memorable of all the fauna was a sleeping boa constrictor with her lunch still undigested. Yara was very knowledgable about the local flora and fauna, the history of Costa Rica's Caribe region, its people, and really anything else that we wished to chat about :-) She was also very friendly and fun to be around. She recommended to us other tours and experiences that we ended up really enjoying. We really loved our time with her. Thanks Yara!

Best jungle tour

The tour with Yara was PREFECT!! Intimate and informative, like a close friend who understands the jungle without feeling like you're in a classroom. The pace was great, no rush or pressure. We saw and learned so much, definitely an experience I'd recommend to anyone. It wasn't too challenging and it all flowed so naturally. Plus, she makes and sells her own body care products! You can't go wrong with Yara she's the best!

Unfortunately, the price-performance ratio is not right here at all. For about $10 you can rent kayaks for an hour, which is enough for your own exploration.

Incredible experience that left us speechless.

I took an excursion with Yara with four friends and we were really delighted. After a walk to discover the animals and vegetation of Punta Uva, we paddled down the river in a kayak. It was an amazing experience, Yara is a really passionate and knowledgeable guide. He taught us many things and pointed out details of nature that left us speechless. We were also lucky enough to see a sloth come down from a tree to drink from the river. Really exciting! I recommend this experience to everyone!
