Jungle Hike to Hidden Waterfall in Puerto Viejo

Plunge into the jungle!

We are an adventurous couple, who loves to experience many different elements of the places we travel to. This hike allowed us to experience the incredible depth and diversity of the jungle and its inhabitants. Our guide Esteban has an incredible depth of knowledgeable and at the same time is relaxed, easygoing, and enjoyable to hike with. He was able to answer every little random question we both had about plants, animals, and history along our hike as well as inform, teach, and entertain us. This Journey will require you to hike through the jungle, if it has been raining, this will mean a lot of mud. Prepare for that, especially your footwear, and it’s worth every step. The jungle foliage, frogs, birds, insects, monkeys, and sense of adventure is life giving. The waterfall is epic and muy bonito. We swam in the incredible warm deep waters at its base and soaked up the vibrant energy of the falling waters. Esteban was very respectful in giving us privacy as we shared this experience as a couple. If we lived in Costa Rica I could see Esteban being a great hiking and adventure buddy. You cannot hike in this part of the jungle without the permission of the indigenous people who live there. This right of passage was earned by Esteban, he shares it with you. I can see with his depth of knowledge and respectful and calm nature why he was able to earn this right. I was also pleasantly surprised it was just us and Esteban, as he limits the tour to small intimate groups. Prepare with good footwear for hiking, mud, and some water. Bring lots of drinking water and snacks. A swim suit for jumping in at the falls. Clear the day for the hike. Enjoy this incredible adventure, memory, and Costa Rican experience.

Fantastic Hike and Swim!

Rob was a fantastic guide! Easy to understand and super knowledgeable and the indigenous guide was wonderful as well. The hike was beautiful and strenuous… but worth the swim in the waterfall!! Amazing!!!! 🤩 we saw a sloth, toucans and so many wonderful frogs. The trees are amazing! The jungle is magical. Very private and hard to believe they take people back there! Awesome 😎 experience.

A wonderful journey through the jungle to a spectacular waterfall.

A truly wonderful experience exploring the jungle behind Puerto Veijo and swimming under an incredible waterfall. Esteban has an incredible knowledge of plants, animals, history and culture which made the journey all the more interesting. There are many beautiful plants and animals to see on the way, even some unique fruits to try. The hike is the perfect difficulty to be truly rewarded when arriving at the waterfall. Highly recommend this experience.

Amazing experience!! Estaban was a great guide. We learned so much from him about Costa Rica. The hike is hard but the views are so worth it — one of our favorite adventures throughout our whole trip.

We had a great time hiking with Lynch. He is knowledgeable, friendly, easy going and patient. We got to see parts of the rainforest that we couldn't see by ourselves and swimming in the waterfall was awesome.

Amazing experience ♥️

From start to finish, Lynch (Local Guide) gave us a lot of information about the flora and fauna of Costa Rica, on the hike (which is moderate) you see many animals! Birds, insects, sloths, etc! It is an adventure I recommend if you like to enjoy nature, disconnect pure air and sound of the jungle. I did other tours and personally this one is high. I felt very confident with the Guide and enjoyed this experience, fully recommended!!!!

I highly recommend taking this hike. Amazing Guide and even more amazing jungle. Consider that trekking is moderate. Lynch makes the experience much more enjoyable. Totally grateful for this adventure!!
