Full-Day Tour to Cahuita National Park from Puerto Limon

A great tour and highly recommend Steven as a guide.

Steven was an excellent t our guide who really made this a great trip. He kept us entertained throughout the day Nd time passed so quickly. The weather wasn’t on our side and we got caught by some heavy rain in Cahuita. I’d recommend taking some good waterproof shoes as well as raincoat and umbrella. We got to see lots of wildlife including a few sloths, monkeys and a snake. Take a good camera. Overall a great trip and well worth the money.

The Canal trip was amazing….birds, sloths with babies, great commentary from “Boa”,our very knowledgeable guide. We were experiencing huge rain showers, but who cares! It was a fantastic tour.

Great tour of Limon and the National Park

The tour was great even though we had a lot of rain, but that is to be expected in Costa Rica. It did clear up later in the tour while we were at the National Park. Our tour guide, Chris was awesome in finding the animals, including sloths, herons, iguanas, lizards and other animals. The boat ride was nice, especially since we kept dry while the rain was coming down hard. Our driver Arturo was also great. We had a stop to taste various fruits, which was nice. Chris also showed us many fruits and flowers he grows at his house and some of his collections, including a dart frog. Chris was very knowledgeable in the flora, fauna and culture of Costa Rica and Arturo made sure we got back in time to get back to the ship. The National Psrk was also very nice.

Great Day Tour

This was an excellent day! We enjoyed our tour trip so much. They took their time and explained things very well. They continuously made sure if you had any questions or needed anything ( like drink or restroom). Cooper was a fountain of knowledge as well as the driver. What stood out most was they were very sincere and wanted to make sure we loved Costa Rica as much as they did. It didn’t appear to just be a job! They had fun and made sure we did as well. We would highly recommend this tour. We think it would be great for families as well as couples.

Great Day Tour

In December 2024 my wife and I walked off of our cruise ship, made our way past the shopping area and found our guide, Oscar, holding a sign with our name on it. We took a short walk to his car and discussed the day. We wanted to stay ahead of the rain so we changed up the schedule. We stopped at a fruit stand and had some samples, stopped a couple of times to see sloths in trees and birds, and made our way to Cahuita National Park. After signing in, we walked along the path all the way to the river, which we did not cross. Oscar pointed out an orange viper snake curled on a tree branch and 3 monkeys, a family of racoons and an iguana on the beach. On our way out we saw a female 2 toed sloth with a baby. We then left for our river (canal) ride, where we saw many more sloths and an amazing variety of birds. Our tour number was RDT01 and it was very enjoyable. We made it back to the dock with 30 minutes to shop before we had to reboard our ship. The owner of the company, Federico Schister, met us where Oscar dropped us off. We fit in a lot in our day, which was great.

Excellent small group tour at a great price!

Excellent day!! Cooper made it a priority to find as much wildlife as possible and make the day exactly what we wanted!! So much better than the ship tour that had 30+people crowded together in their group. We had 8 people and cooper made sure we could all see the animals he found throughout the day!

Sloths R Us

Be prepared for at least a 90 min walk through the national Park forest. Very hot and humid. Saw more sloths and a couple of snakes . Saw monkeys and sloths on the short canal ride (next to the highway).

A visit to Eastern Costa Rica

We were met just outside the cruise port entrance and driven around downtown with explanations and descriptions of what we were seeing. Then we were taken to a river where we boated down finding sloths, a variety of birds, a crocodile, and iguanas. Next we went to a market that sold Costa Rican products. The guide also discussed the native plants found by the market. From the market we traveled to the Cahata National Park, Costa Rica's oldest National Park. We walked a trail in the park paralleling the beach. If someone had wanted to go into the water, that may have been a possibility. We again looked for animal life. Due to intermittent rain showers, many of the animals seemed to have gone into hiding. The guide really wanted to find monkeys, but was not successful. We did find birds, sloths, and iguanas though. Even though no monkeys were seen, it was a pleasant hike through the park until we reached a beach with an inlet not easily crossed. We headed back to the port at this point. All in all a pleasant time spent in Eastern Costa Rica.

EXCELLENT!

We did a small group tour by mini-bus to Cahuita National Park and a boat tour along the canals back near Limon. Roxanna was our tour guide. She was so friendly and full of information that made our day extra enjoyable. We even got to meet Frederico, the owner. He is a man of his word and delivered the full package! Along the route to the National Park we stopped along the road to take pictures of sloths and monkeys, a flamingo, to shop for trinkets and snacks, and use the restroom. At the Park we walked part of the path before turning around, but saw so many sloths and monkeys that we were in awe. We also saw snakes and a raccoon. Along the path we were able to stop at the beach for a break and take some of the most amazing pictures of our entire trip. After the Park, we stopped at a grocery store to check it out and buy anything we needed or wanted and stopped at a spot along the road where there was a banana plantation so Roxanna could give us some insight into the local economy, growing, harvesting, and exporting/shipping. The canal boat trip also produced quite a bit of wildlife, again monkeys, sloths, caiman, snakes, many different bird species, and other reptiles. They boat driver sped along on the way back which was cool breezes and appreciated after a long day of sun and heat. We were back to the ship in plenty of time! No worries!

Wildlife spotted!

Excellent tour with lots of wildlife spotted. It was a small group of 10 people which was an added bonus.

Brilliant

Full day tour from our cruise ship. Picked up for our 6-7 hours day excursion. Our guide was great, full of information as we headed to a canal and saw lots of wildlife, then a fruit stand where we bought pastries and tried a small banana. The main highlight ended at cahuita national park where we saw sloths and monkeys in the trees and skunks running about where we then walked back on the beach followed by drinking a nice cool beer at the bar ending a great day for $95 per person.

Good combination of attractions

Nice day out assisted excellently by Rupert our guide and Eric the driver. The mix of canal, inland and coastal venues made it a rewarding experience.

Lovely day despite a hiccup

Resourceful guides, variety in tour, small group, enjoyed the boat tour and the walk in Cahuita Nationalb Park by the sea. The highlights were seeing the variety of animals ( especially sloths and white-faced monkeys) and having a swim in the ocean. The reason I am not giving it a 5 star is because we were told, when we arrived at the pick up spot right on time 8 am, that the van had left without us 45 min earlier.. We were not pleased, to say the least, as the tour was supposed to be from 8 am to 6 pm. However, we were able to catch up the van at its first stop. So the company made ip for it and the rest of the day was very pleasant. Btw, we were back by 3pm.

Exceeded expectations!

This was a great excursion for us! We saw tons of wildlife everywhere we went. Our guise, JC was fantastic. He was very knowledgeable about all of the wildlife, from fauna to birds to mammals. He gave us lots of information about Costa Rica as well. This excursion exceeded our expectations.

The two Jorges were super knowledgeable and passionate. Felt like a tour with friends. Saw monkeys, sloths, and all kinds of other lizards, birds and bugs. Felt very welcome in Limon and loved it.

JC, Joanie, and Jordy were helpful, informative and eagle-eyed at spotting many animals. Even small snakes and birds. The canal and jungle were amazing.

A fun, relaxed day for our family to get the local feel for Costa Rico

This was a great day with a small group, including lots of animal sightings in the Tortuguero Canals and along the road; and a fascinating walk in Cahuita Natural Park first through the rainforest and back along the beach. Juan Carlos (JC) was a great guide, full of knowledge and pride in Costa Rica. Our driver (? Donelo) was great at spotting animals and brought his daughter Dana that day and she was a fun addition. Our family included three young adult children and parents. JC was so encouraging of our son who is a passionate animal lover. Highly recommend this tour.

Great day exploring Puerto Limon

We spent a fun day with Oscar (guide) and Dennis (driver) exploring areas around Puerto Limon in a newer van with good AC. My favorite part was the 1.5 hour boat ride with Jose “eagle eye” who lived up to his name. He spotted sloths, monkeys, snakes, cayman gecko, birds, and various other camouflaged creatures. Then it was a 45-minute car ride to a fruit stand and Cahuita National Park. The walking path through the park was flat and shaded with more animal sightings. We chose to spend extra time (30 min) at the beach 3/4 of the way in while the rest of the group proceeded to the end of the path where there was another more crowded beach. In exchange, we missed out on seeing a small toucan. Please note very little time was allocated to beach/swimming. The main attraction at the park was the monkeys especially the white-faced ones. Last stop was outside a plantation to learn about growing bananas. Oscar was a genuine caring guide who looked you in the eyes and placed his hand on your shoulder. He answered all my questions regarding his country. Cruise season lasts from October to April in Puerto Limon so he works as a cab driver during off-season. We felt safe and well cared for by him and Dennis. I recommend bringing extra water as they only provide 1 small bottle of water for each person. If you want to swim, wear your swimsuits under your clothes. There is a restroom/changing station at the park but that means the rest of the group has to wait like they did with me 😊.

Costa Rica wildlife adventure

We were on a Norwegian cruise and we were an hour late debarking. Relax Day Tours waited for us. Our guide was JC and he was amazing. The first part of the tour was a boat ride, we saw lots of sloths and monkeys. We also saw a boa constrictor and a crocodile. Then we took a bus ride to Cahuita National Park. We walked along the Caribbean Sea through a rain forest. There was tons of wildlife. It seemed there were monkeys or sloths in every tree. We had booked this tour as well as 2 other tours on this trip. The other 2 tours were booked directly through NCL. They were fine, but this tour was by far my favorite. This tour had 18 people on the bus, but the NCL tours had 40 - the smaller group size made it much nicer.

Forget the Ship Excursions!

Steven (Esteban) met us right on time and tossed us in his AC car and off we go! He took us to a beautiful view Pt over Limon, perfect for pictures. Drove us out to the National Park, but this is where it gets good, we stopped at a small roadside stand selling typical CR foods and goods and then to a banana plantation where he taught us all about banana harvests—so cool! The hike through the NP was wonderful and we got to See many new animals, insects and plants. He then headed to the Tortuga Channel and we had a great hr long boat trip to see even more wildlife, then to a marvelous lunch at Playa Bonita. So, we get our own driver, our own schedule, passionate Costa Rican w great English for 30% LESS than the cruise ship Excursions! No struggle to decide there! We love Viator for their easy booking, transparency and support for us in the whole process!

Costa Rica ..Beautiful country

We had a fabulous tour with Steven around Costa Rica. Consisting of a trip on the river, with ‘eagle eye’. We were lucky to see several sloths, one with her baby.. and lots of wildlife. Then off to Cuhatui National Park for a swim in the turquoise sea. Would definitely recommend…

Fabulous day out

We really couldn’t have been better looked after than we were. Your was brilliantly organised from start to finish but then allowed to alter when everyone on the tour wanted to do something. slightly different . Great trip on the canals and then walking in National park then lovely lunch stop by beach and back on ship well in time . They then went well above and beyond as I left my souvenirs on the dock. They couldn’t be found so they agreed to rebuy and post to me . Just amazing and lovely people

Great tour guide. Bus needs A/C tone up.

Our tour guide J.C. was very knowledgeable and friendly. The big negative is the A/C on the tour bus did not work very well. This makes for an uncomfortable day in Costa Rica.

Outstanding trip

Fabulous tour, our guide JC was outstanding, so knowledgeable about the flora and fauna. Wonderful boat trip too, the captain got us close up to see the sloths and birdlife.

Our driver Eric and guide Ronaldo were a fantastic team. Eric’s eagle eyes found so many animals for us to see up close. And Ronaldo’s knowledge of the area, history and of course all the animals, plants and insects was incredible. We saw monkeys, Montezuma birds, toucans, black hawks, an eye lash viper, a green tree snake, leaf cutter ants doing their thing, and of course sloths. Both three and two toed. This was an excellent, amazing excursion. The van was great. Air was cool and the stops we made were not rushed. We spent 8 hrs on this trip but it seemed like time flew by. Definitely recommend. Relax Day Tours was great and it was a seamless deal through Viator.

A great day in Costa Rica

Our excursion was very enjoyable and interesting. JC was an excellent guide for our activities, and Eddie was a good driver and help in identifying many of the animals and birds we spotted. We were old highly recommend this excursion.

Best all day tour you wont be disappointed

our tour guide was awesome he was very informative about the city and culture and the history he made sure to take us to the right places. they stopped along way to show us different plants fruits and animals they saw. the canal ride they went above and beyond to find animals and birds and reptiles. they found a caman that was cool. we stopped at a fruit market and had free tastes of fresh local fruits. stopped and saw dole banana's farm went to the rain forest and saw many monkeys. had some local foods we grabbed really fast at the canal. even had 1/2 hour swim at the beach. you wont go wrong with this tour they are professional and very good communication prior to arriving too. spoke good English also. we also come by ship and had no problem getting us back on time and got going first thing in morning.

One of my best ports

Very good tour if you’re coming into the port. Our guides Eric and Roxana were very knowledgeable and very good a spotting wildlife. We saw a little bit of everything.

Perfect day in Limón!

Amazing day! We saw iguanas, howler monkeys, sloths, herons, a toucan and more animals. Oscar was an outstanding guide. He ensured that everyone was comfortable and enjoying the tour. The trip to the national park was greatly enhanced by Oscar’s knowledge and Dennis’ eagle eyes. The boat captain was incredibly knowledge about the animals in the lagoon. I highly recommend this tour!

Our Day with Larry in Puerto Limon and Caribbean Costa Rica

Booked with Relax Day Tours for the full day excursion. Larry, our tour guide, was very knowledgeable about the flora, fauna and wildlife and it was startling how he and the driver could spot animals while we were en route and they would pull over and allow the group to take pictures. What was particularly fascinating was Larry's ability to describe the medicinal uses of various plants that grow in the jungle and how the locals often use these plants to treat conditions in lieu of conventional pharmaceuticals. The boat ride on the canal was relaxing and offered an opportunity view native animals from monkeys to crocodiles. The banana plantation visit was enhanced by an opportunity to sample organically-grown fruit. The difference from store-bought bananas is amazing. The walk through Cahuita National Park situated along the coastline gave Larry another chance to inform us about the wonders of the coastal jungle. Finally we stopped at a remote Black Beach where we could purchase food and drinks before heading back to the ship. A long day, but well worth the price.

Lots of wildlife

We really enjoyed this tour, Juan Carlos was an excellent guide. He’s very knowledgeable about the plants and animals and does a good job helping point them out. We saw sloths, monkeys, iguanas, and lots of birds.

Nice tour for german-speaking

In general, it was a good tour and a nice guide. But even though it was mentioned that it will be in English/German, in reality, it was provided 95% in German, and only 5% was translated for the 3 of us to English. So, if you speak only English, consider other tours.

Highly recommend

Fabulous day out with our tour guide Monica. Highly recommend this trip. Everything went well. Small group of about a dozen. We saw plenty of wildlife on both the boat tour and the rainforest walk. Everyone in the group enjoyed the day. Monica was friendly and knowledgeable and the bus driver was amazing at spotting sloths, monkey and birds and making sure we all had time to take photos. Definitely book this tour if you are in Limon. We were on a cruise ship but we’re happy we booked this and not a tour through the ship.

Great tour for nature lovers

The canal is full of wildlife and the boat crew is great at spotting them. The hike in Cahuita park also provided lots of flora and fauna to view and a scenic beach. Stops at fruit sampling store and banana farm were interesting about the local economy. Juan Carlos at Relax Day Tours was a great guide.

Great time with a passionate tour guide!

We had a great time on this tour with our guide Monica. We were able to see lots of animals on the canal and the walk through Cahuita. It was nice to see how people really took care of these places. Monica was very knowledgeable and passionate about her work and was also a fun guide. Great time all around. Definitely worth taking this tour vs the ones provided by the cruise ships - cheaper , smaller groups and great fun!

Awesome tour! Very...

Awesome tour! Very comfortable roomy van and the guides were so much fun. Eagle eyed Eric could spot wildlife from a mile away. We saw tons of animals - sloths, monkeys, iguanas, caymans, birds, etc. Juan Carlos knew just about everything about Costa Rica we learned so much. The driver even came back to the port when we left a phone in the car which we really appreciated. They went out of their way to take us to an excellent local restaurant for lunch on our way home. Pro tips: bug spray if going to Cahuita and I highly rec binoculars!! Really changed the experience being able to zoom in on animals high up in the trees. Canal ride is shaded and breezy but the walk in cahuita can be hot and humid. Beach is beautiful though so we walked back along the beach it was great. Could not recommend this tour enough!!!

Amazing Time

We had an amazing time and saw so many animals including sloths, birds, monkeys, bats, lizards, a caiman and a snake. I recommend insect repellant and sunscreen.

Book this tour!

The driver and the guide were both outstanding. I would not hesitate to book this tour again. Everything went smoothly from pickup at the port to drop off at the port later in the day. We stopped at a banana farm for a brief presentation on how bananas are grown for export. We also stopped for a free fruit tasting with a chance to use some bathrooms and buy some snacks and souvenirs. Also included was a 90-minute boat ride on a canal where the guides pointed out all kinds of wildlife, including sloths, monkeys, a cayman, all kinds of birds, lizards and iguanas. We also spent a couple of hours walking through Cahuito National Park and both the driver and the guide came with us to point out all kinds of animals. They also suggested we try some fruit sorbet at the park, which was really good.
