Road to Hana: Full-Day Scenic Drive with Blacksand & Waterfalls

The scenery along the way...

The scenery along the way wasn’t all that great since trees and mountains blocked the view most of the time. Some attractions were barely pointed out, and the guide didn’t even plan to stop at them, even though the website said they were “must-visit” spots. There were also too many shopping stops, which ate up time that could’ve been spent enjoying the views. If you can, it’s better to drive yourself so you’ll have plenty of time to take in the scenery.

The guide was great and very knowledgeable. The views and the sights were great! We visited all of the sights we were told we would!

A great way to enjoy the Road to Hana.

This was a great tour and I am glad we chose this one. Our driver and tour guide - Christy, was lovely, engaging and quite knowledgeable about the local sites and folklore. She was kind and thoughtful and represented the true maui culture. We had enough time for all the noted sites and scenic points. The van was clean, comfortable and air conditioned which made the entire experience very pleasant. I’ve always had great experience with viator tours and this was no exception. Thank you.

Our day of enjoyment on the “Road to Hana”!

Our tour guide/driver Valerie was “first class” from our perspective. Her knowledge of the island and history is most likely second to none along with her personality and caring trait. Valerie’s experience enlightened us well. The many stops we made will be treasured for a life time.

Great trip. Malia was a lovely and friendly guide. We saw sea turtles a plenty and had a swim in the black sand beach. Breakfast and lunch were good too. It was good to be able to enjoy the drive without someone missing out because they had to concentrate on driving all the bends and narrow bridges. Malia was confident in her driving and it made for a stress free day.

Exceptional day of sight seeing and engagement

Definitely worthwhile to have a knowledgeable tour guide and excellent experienced driver like Christy show us the exceptional views and interesting sites. The unique combination of nature and history that we experienced was beyond a typical bus tour.

Totally worth it!

We rented a car and thought about driving ourselves but decided to take the tour. It was totally worth it. The drive is extremely whiny and if you’re driving/navigating you’d have to focus on the road and miss so much. Plus Thomas was hilariously entertaining. He knows all the secret spots and stops, where the good restrooms are, where to get the best foods and how to best navigate around waterfalls and caves. At the end, we were so tired, we could relax and have someone drive us home.

Road to Hana

Jay was an awesome host. He is very knowledgeable of the island. He was also very personable. His Ohana spirit shines through. We were grateful for Jay’s great driving skills on the Road to Hana. This excursion was so much fun and the breakfast and lunch was excellent. I’d definitely recommend this excursion. Request Jay.

Heavenly day

Heavenly was an amazing tour guide. We had a great time. The ride was comfortable, fun, and very informative. It was a full day itinerary but it did not feel like a long drawn out day. Would recommend to everyone to book. Trust me when I say the road to Hana is better with a tour guide.

Hana - fun

A must - we had the best time. There were so many beautiful views, plants, Hawaiian history. We would not be able to make this trip without our guide, Heaven. She was so knowledgeable and provided us with an entire day of fun.

We had a great experience!

We were able to stop and take great pictures, the lunch was very good! Our favorite spot was the beach that had the sea turtles and people surfing, that was really cool!

Our guide, Lepa made the trip a wonderful memory. She took us to beautiful place and entertained us with many interesting stories.

It was a great and long day for this tour. Glad to have the driver and tour guide. If I talk about cost, it will be much cheaper to rent out the car and drive by yourself. Just plan the map ahead as there will be no network in some areas. the main spots to be covered are twin falls, halfway to hana, black sand beach and Hana town. With three of us it costed us $500 but if you rent a car it will be only around $100-150.

Amazing experience

Thiis trip was memorabile. Christy was such a Good tour guide. We learned so many things about the people and Hawaian culture. We are so grad that we decided to take the tour and not go in our own. Definetly when back we will back for more tours. Thank you for such a great experience!

My friends and I were absolutely satisfied with this tour! The views were fabulous and our guide Thomas told us a lot of fascinating things about Maui and Hawaii in general! The road is quite dangerous and zigzag, so some people may feel sick because of it. Definitely recommend to go there with this agency🫶

Kalae is an amazing tour guide! Very knowledgeable about the all the flora and plants, historical landmarks and associated historical events. Kalae is clearly passionate about Maui and sharing her experiences and anecdotes to those around her. Would definitely recommend booking a tour with Kalae as your guide!

Great tour!

Christie was an amazing tour guide! I recommend booking the tour versus driving. It’s a long drive on a narrow road with sharp turns. There are spots with falling rocks. I would have been too scared to drive myself. Christie took the group to cool spots and shared so much knowledge of the area. She made the tour fun. My favorite part was seeing the turtles. The breakfast was at a cool restaurant. It was a breakfast sandwich and there was an option to buy coffee and other foods at the restaurant. Lunch was a sandwich, chips and water. We stopped for banana bread and snacks along the way. The pick up was at my hotel which made it that much more convenient. Expect to be out all day. It was a long tour. Wear comfortable clothes and shoes. There is an opportunity to go swimming. Bring a towel if you plan on getting in the water.

The scenery is gorgeous. Our driver/tour guide, Thomas, was knowledgeable and really sweet. He guided us and explained very well the history of Maui and Hana in depth.

A must do, when visiting Maui!

We started our day early. Perfect weather for the road to Hana. We even experienced a light rain and mist while checking out the tide pools. Beautiful flowers, waterfalls, beaches and turtles. Our tour guide Malia was great! She shared so many stories of her island! She also has many family members- aunties and uncles who we saw almost at every turn! Fact or fiction?? But, oh so fun! We enjoyed our tour and would highly recommend!

We are happy we didn’t drive it! The switch backs were insane. Our tour guide, Lepa was very friendly, funny, and open about sharing her experience living on the island. We got a chance to hear her point of view as a true native on the island. The stops were amazing. We got to experience a little bit of everything from seeing the water falls, swimming in the black sand beach, eating homemade ice cream and much more. It was definitely worth booking the trip.

Best tour of the trip

What an amazing trip. Our guide, Cristy, was awesome. The trip was long but the views were so awe inspiring you didn’t even notice. We are fresh fruit, homemade ice cream, macadamia nut brittle and we could’ve eaten many other traditional foods. Definitely do this tour!!

Highly recommended to everyone from teens to adults!

What could go wrong when you are guided by a true local! Justin was very knowledgeable about everything from beginning to end. If you are thinking of napping a little during the ride then this tour is not for you. You will be entertained by great music, fun facts and get educated on Hawaiian history. Think music fest vibe with delicious banana bread, coconut ice cream before noon(!) and History & Explore Channels.

Our splendid trip to Hana

Overall, experience of the road to Hana trip was amazing. Both my wife and I fully enjoyed the trip. Most of the places we stopped at were very beautiful and the fond memories of the scenic places we visited will stay with us forever. Heavenly (Guide/driver) was very pleasant personality and we enjoyed her company. She was easy going and made the trip more interesting. We will strongly recommend this trip to others. We had the company of 8 other people in the van.

Christine are tour guide, had wealth of knowledge, so friendly. I highly recommend this tour. Tour looked a little scary but Christine navigated the roads. We had group of friendly people on are van that made the experience memorable.

Fantastic and worth it!

What a great adventure! Well worth it! A long trip we wouldn’t have wanted to drive ourselves. The people were friendly and our tour guide, Lei, was the best! Check out our selfie from the end of the trip! Lei knew her way around and drove like a champ, besides being a native so very knowledgeable about everything. Wonderful time!

Road to beautiful

The black sand beach was amazing and very nice And watching and seeing the turtles was also amazing our tour guide. Justin was very professional and formative knows everything about the island. Of course he’s from the island and he is very passionate about his work and his hometown I recommend him big time.

Thank goodness someone else was driving. It has to be exhausting to drive that road. Our guide was so kind & careful to make sure we got to see everything. Answered every question & explained the Hawaiian family value & history.

Road to Hannah 😊

One of the best experience we had in Hawaii. Got a private car and our driver was very helpful. Road to Hannah was one of the best experiences in Hawaii we had. We had to wake up early morning take a bus and meet at the point where the tour company was located. Overall it’s was good.

Coconut ice cream at Coconut Giens was amazing. Sea turtles were awesome. Lava tube at Black sand beach was cool.

Fun, informative, long day

This was a great tour! Our tour guide, Justin, was very informative and made the long drive fun. The ride wasn't terrible as you're getting out to see things often. The sandwiches were a nice touch. Wouldn't do it again as it was a long day, but am glad I did it to say I did!

Enlightening!

Malia was a wonderful guide and driver! She knew so many interesting facts and stories and cultural info. She shared about her life growing up in Hawaii and friends we saw along the way! From the waterfalls, black sand beach, and even sea turtles-I do not think we missed a thing! And her driving was excellent as she talked along the way! We felt so comfortable and so happy we were with her!!

This was an amazing tour. It allowed us to truly appreciate the beauty without having to drive along a wild road! Our driver/guide Justin was wonderful! He was so knowledgeable about the area, culture, and trees/flowers etc. The whole day was great.

I booked the tour solo and thought maybe they would cancel but they did NOT which was cool. The breakfast sandwich & lunch sandwich was great better than expected. Marty was awesome super friendly and welcoming with loads of knowledge. The trip included plenty time at the stops to see many things and wonder. There was time to swim at the waterfalls and he offered help in the best path to the pools. Marty was the best dude ever for the tour trip. The other passengers all enjoyed him as well, he kept the van in a good vibe the whole way. . . thanks for the brewery drop off sir . . If you are solo cool thing is you might get front seat!

Outstanding trip to Hana

Our trip was excellent. Thomas is an outstanding tour guide who knows a great deal about the island, it’s history, the landmarks, the plants, and everything Maui. He knew all the best places to stop to see everything possible during our trip. He is highly recommended as is the trip.

Great but tense Drive

This road is fabulous, it can be treacherous at points but if you drive with care it makes for a scenic drive. Make sure to stop and give way on the one way bridges. Also, full attention is required by the driver. There were several places where the road is so narrow that you are practically swapping paint with the car passing you. We stopped at the Garden of Eden. It is a bit pricy but we enjoyed our time there looking at the foliage and the lookouts. Paia is a cute shopping stop. Hookipa Beach is a great stop. There were lots of surfers, surfing the big waves. There were also turtles catching the sun. I would suggest the beach turn outs because many of the beaches are different. We did not have any theft issues on our trip to Hana. We stayed at the Hana Maui and were told that tourists should not take the path to the red sand beach. It is not a safe trail and people are injured daily.
