Full Day Gray Whale Watching Experience

Great tour, great time. We saw lots of whales and were close to a few of them. Pamela was a great guide, was helpful when my wife became sick and we had to cancel, rescheduling us on a new discounted tour. We would have hated to miss this experience. We had a nice lunch as well. Many thanks.

Just magical

A really enjoyable experience. The tour operator moved up the pick up time in response to weather conditions and the communication was very good. On arrival at Puerto Chale we transferred to the boat and were soon heading off towards Santa Margarita Island. We then had a magical two and a half hours watching the whales, must have seen around 30, singly and in pods. The captain was respectful of the whales and kept his distance, allowing them to come closer rather than chasing them. It all felt very peaceful and we had so many sightings. At one time we had a whale under the boat! Maria was a very good and knowlegeable guide who was very good at spotting whales about to breach. All in all a very enjoyable day

Wonderful gray whale tour!

We enjoyed being with a marine biologist who told us about the whales and could answer our questions. Seeing so many whales was very special.

We had an experience like no other

After a ride from La Paz Mexico in a comfortable VAN that allowed us to enjoy views of the desert, we arrived to Puerto Chale. We took a boat with two more families. Our guide, Pamela, was a knowledgeable and highly entertaining Marine Biologist. Our expectations were low about watching those amazing and colosal beings. The fact is that, after a few minutes navigating, we were sorrounded by lots of gray whales including some of them with their babies. They are playful an curios of those beings outside the water. And we learned that the encounter has to be respectful. If they feel like it, they will approach the boat. Do not insist to touch them or chase them. If you are patient they will get closer and you will have one of the most amazing experiences in your life.

The whole experience was great: Price Pick-up on time Comfortable transportation to the site Food and water were provided throughout the tour More importantly - tour guide - she answered all the questions, explained a lot of things about the whales, was friendly and positive. Amazing day with eco tourism company and trained marine biologist!

We had a fabulous day with Baja Whales, a company whose guides are all fully bilingual and also trained marine biologists, to see the gray whales in Magdalena Bay. This is a new company and they actually have and follow eco tourism principles (and don’t just pay lip service to them). They are respectful of the whales and don’t chase them, they support the local community and are building relationships with the families in that community (Puerto Chale) who have switched from commercial fishing to tourism (whale tours). The boats are all new and spacious, and our captain maintained a respectful distance with the whales that still allowed us to see them quite up close. Although we are still 2-3 weeks away from high season, we still saw whales during our two hours out on the water. It was a million times better than the pitiful tour we did in Cabo with hundreds on the boat and one single whale far off in the foreground. This company is idealistic, principled, and really trying to change and help this industry. They are industry-leading in terms of sending a trained marine biologist on all of their tours. They are also putting money back into local communities - and one of their non-profit endeavours is to take local school children out to see the whales so that a new generation can see and appreciate the need for conservation (something many tourists often overlook). Booking a tour through them helps support these initiatives, and I try to support companies that put their money where their mouth is. Bonus points: my toddler couldn’t get enough of our guide, who showed infinite patience on the boat explaining whales to her

Perfect Day With Gray Whales and Super Inspiring Guides

We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect experience seeing the Gray Whales in their Baja sanctuary. Our guide Pamela is an expert marine biologist, incredibly knowledgeable and is committed to the conservation of this very special ecosystem. Her love for this place exudes from her, and she passed it into us. We came at the tale end of the Grey Whale birthing/migration season and were not disappointed at how many whales we saw. Pamela educated us on how we would respectfully keep our distance from the whales and wait for signs of their curiosity to approach us. Our boat was small yet comfortable vs. the massive boats you see from other types of tours that carry hundreds of viewers but limit how close you can even get to see any of the whales. With this tour we really felt we were encountering the whales respectfully and we gained so much knowledge and history from Pamela. Baja Whales is also committed to the education of local school children in order to instill that the next generation will be as committed to the conservation of their natural spaces and the wildlife that inhabit them. We look forward to our next opportunity to visit Baja and take another tour with Baja Whales!
