We had a really great experience- our guide Alex is very enthusiastic and knowledgeable about Gion, along with Japanese history and culture. We would highly recommend doing this walking tour.

Must do tour!

Great tour. Our guide Gus was very knowledgeable and personable. Group of 5 was perfect size. We saw geisha/maiko, treated to a Kyoto snack, and visited many attractions. Best value of any of the tours i participated in.

Very enriching experience in Gion district, Kyoto

We had booked a private tour with Vincent to visit the Geisha District popularly known as Gion in Kyoto. I must admit that it was such a wonderful experience as Vincent walked us through the history of the city and how this magnificent art form came out to be an exclusive tradition. I felt very intrigued and fascinated with the many subtleties of the tradition that a casual visitor will miss. The tour was very relaxed in terms of pace and the anecdotes were very interesting that brought out colors in narration of history of the key period of the region. Vincent almost came across like a history professor who could tailor his lecture based on the class size and the depth it wants to explore. As part of the tour we also visited many shrines and temples and learnt many finer points about the culture and beliefs that have been the foundation of very ancient traditions of Shinto and Buddhist heritage. Vincent is very knowledgeable and patiently answered any questions. I would recommend this tour to anyone. 5 stars all the way!

Gion by night.

This was a highlight of our time in Japan. Katsuhito, our guide, was great and imparted so much knowledge. He knew the Gion district extremely well. We were lucky enough to see a genuine geisha. Highly recommended this tour.

Cancelled abruptly last minute

The tour was cancelled last minute, only a few hours before it was due to begin, due to the weather warning. However when I went to the different intended locations by myself at the appointed time it was full of different company’s tour groups who had no issues with the rain. If you travel in Autumn/Winter, I recommend choosing a different operator.

Vincent Was Amazing!

Vincent was excellent. He was an amazing guide and we really connected. He taught us a ton of history both about the Geisha and Japan in general. He provided us exactly what we were looking for.

A spectacular gion guide

Alex is a fantastic tour guide. He provided history and cultural context to this very beautiful part of Kyoto. He was easy to talk to. He provided us excellent recommendations for our stay.

Great experience seeing a Gaisha

Carl was absolutely wonderful. Very knowledgeable and friendly. His humor and personality made this excursion even better. We even got to see two Gaisha which was a huge honor. Highly recommend this trip but fyi tons of walking and hilly.

A touch of old Kyoto!

Seeing the Yasaka Pagoda silhouette in the evening was surreal! Boris was a great guide He knew a lot about the history of Gion and geisha customs.

Loved this walk with excellent guide.

We enjoyed this historical walk & it was less crowed doing it later in the day. We ended up at nice area to dine for dinner. Small group allowed you to ask questions & get insight.

Nobumasa Miyake best tour guide

We had Nobumasa Miyake as our guide during the Gion district walking tour. He was great, very knowledgeable, kind, pointed out and explained so many things, took through so many side alleys and paths and explained a great deal of history which is what makes Japan so rich in history. Highly recommend. You will walk a bunch and the ramen place he took us was delicious too

Me and my husband really enjoyed this tour. Jasmine was awesome and gave us a lot information about the area. Definitely recommend this tour and hopefully you get Jasmine as your tour guide.

Great evening in Gion!

What a great evening stroll through Gion with our guide Alex! Alex was an absolute pleasure, sharing his extensive knowledge and enthusiasm for the area. He took us through the heart of Gion and some beautiful less traveled areas. We had a nice sit down break with a drink and snack along the way. Alex not only answered our questions, but got to know everyone in our small group as well. And he even offered to take photos for everyone. This was one of the highlights of my time in Kyoto! I highly recommend this tour, just be prepared for lots of walking.

Totally worth it

Great Tour, great Infos and great guide. Couldn't have wished for a better experience. Also we had lucky geisha sightings at the finish.

The Magic of Gion

Had a wonderful tour with Richard. He was very knowledgeable and informative. The night walk was beautiful and much less crowds than during the day. We were very lucky to see many Geisha and Meiko’s. The Gion district is a must see in Kyoto. Was a highlight of our trip and we highly recommend this tour and particularly our guide.

What an amazing guide! Gus was just the BEST! 3hours of pure delight. What a lovely young man! From offering us Japanese snacks at the beginning of the Gion tour, to buying our unusual dinner (which we all thoroughly enjoyed!) at the end of the tour. I’m absolutely sure in saying, our party of 4 would all highly recommend a tour with Gus. 5 ⭐️

The tour was fast. We never got the guides name. The food on the tour was the best thing I had in Japan and they were accommodating to my pickiness.

Amazing way to explore the beautiful area of Gion. A must for any visitor

Fabulous trip with an excellent fun and informative guide (sadly cannot remember her name). We saw areas and learnt facts that we would never have done without a guided tour. We were blessed with seeing Geisha (Professional and Apprentice) and all the old streets and quirky places in Kyoto. It was a small group and the other travelers were fun and engaging which really made it too. It was a welcome surprise to stop for a beer and snacks (included in the tour). Having local knowledge was invaluable and helped with our solo exploring of Kyoto too. Going in the evening was perfect. Kyoto was beautiful. It wasn't busy in the evening too. I could not recommend this trip enough. When in Kyoto you must do this tour. You won't regret it.

This tour is a Time Machine.

Karl was an awesome guide and was very knowledgeable about the historical sites and provided interesting context. We got a comprehensive tour of the Gion District and visited significant sites, streets, neighborhoods, temples, and shrines. The area transforms at night with the soft glow of lanterns lining the narrow streets. There was so much history that I felt like I traveled back in time. I also appreciated that the tour was relatively small, which made it more accessible.

Perfect Gion night tour

Our guide Boris was fantastic and engaging. Having lived in Kyoto for 9 years and an experienced tour guide he knew exactly where to go and the history. We saw things we never would have found and even got the perfect classic Kyoto picture shots we'd missed the day before. He paced the tour perfectly (it was long but thorough) and there was ample time for toilet stops and a break for dinner in a temple grounds. Definitely recommend!

Outstanding Gion afternoon tour with Karl

Karl was an outstanding guide! He knew where to go, what to see and gave us a great history lesson. We did not know what to expect because we booked only the day prior during Golden Week. There were great pictures, great conversation, and overall a great three hour tour.

We loved the 3 hours...

We loved the 3 hours walk. We got introduced to so much history and local nuances of the culture of Kyoto (and Japan in general). Alejandro was also kind enough to give us food recommendations and thanks to him, we had one of our best ramen dinners that night. Would highly recommend this tour.

Great tour with an outstanding guide.

Great tour with a local guide who was very informative and also witty. It was good to see the various sights but also to have the history and local insights so well explained.

Best tour in Kyoto

Highly recommend this tour

Jasmine was a very knowledgeable and fun guide. We covered a lot of ground in Kyoto, saw everything we had hoped to see and learned a good bit about Kyoto and geishas. Highly recommend this tour.

Subdue evening walk...relaxing

Karl was an excellent leader, we enjoyed his explanations and love for the city. Seeing it in the evening was relaxing and brought a new appreciation to Kyoto.

Vincent our guide was AWESOME

Fantastic experience that I would highly recommend. Our guide Vincent was very knowledgeable, made sure I heard all of his commentary (I am a little hard of hearing) and included our 18 year old daughter in all of the conversations.

An excellent and informative tour around Gion

We did our tour with Alex. We found him to be knowledgable and very keen to share lots of interesting information about Kyoto and Japanese culture and traditions which we really enjoyed. Alex took us all over one of the main attraction of Kyoto which is Gion, including some interesting back streets with no tourists. Alex interacted very well with everyone in our small group and did his best to answer everyone’s questions to the best of his knowledge which was very refreshing after we did a couple of tours in Tokyo where information was not flowing from our guides at all. We also found Alex to be quite friendly and professional in his manners.

Amazing tour. 2 hours would be great.

The walking tour was terrific. We saw two geishas and visited the most beautiful back streets. Our host was lovely. A suggestion would be to shorten the tour to two hours so you can make it back in time to enjoy the restaurants.

Great way to experience Kyoto at night

Richard was a great tour guide, very knowledgable about Kyoto and Japanese culture in general, and we really enjoyed hearing him speak about the city’s history and share some of his own perspectives. The tour route was fabulous, with highlights being the incredible Yasaka pagoda, delicious udon and grilled mochi at a rest stop and getting to see geisha in the various geisha districts. Highly recommended!

Great private family tour

We did a private tour with Jasmine as a family with two young children. Jasmine was very engaging and although it was a busy evening in the district (cherry blossom season), made sure we had the time and space to see the key areas, take photos and ask questions. Jasmine was lovely toward my two young children, stopping for a snack midway through the tour.

Kyoto from another era - a must do

Yuko was an excellent, patient informative guide. And the walk at dusk with lights and cherry blossoms was romantic and made you feel like you were in old-world Kyoto. Would highly recommend it!

Fascinating tour

We went on this tour our last night in Kyoto and it was the perfect ending to our trip! Our guide, Karl, was so knowledge, thoughtful and entertaining. We had the best experience with him. Throughout the tour, he provided fascinating insights into the history and culture of Kyoto. It was an unforgettable experience!

Very good first tour of Koyto to see highlights in a small time.

Kal was amazing The tour was engaging fun a really experience His 80yr old mother came out to the street from her house to say hello and give us candies. It just made the tour that much more cute.

Navigating the streets with a local on the first day in Kyoto was a great way to cover ground and give me an idea of where I'd like to visit during my stay.
