Perfect evening tour in Kyoto

We loved getting learning about the Gion area history, all about Geisha and Maiko, and seeing the beautiful temples/shrines. Sho was a fantastic guide and very friendly. We were 4 adults and 1 child and we all had a great time in the 90 minutes. Being in the evening, the crowds had really thinned out!

Beautiful Night Tour

Sho was a very friendly and knowledgeable tour guide! We absolutely loved the tour and it was so nice to walk Gion at night when the weather has cooled off and the crowds have gone away. I highly recommend this tour 10/10!!! Arigatō Sho!!

THE tour that will make your trip to Kyoto even better

Has to be the best and most beautiful tour i’ve ever experienced. The guide, “Sho”, was incredibly friendly and answered all our questions. Kyoto is even more beautiful at night than at day and Sho took us to the most beautiful spots and collaborated on all of them. He also told a lot of funny stories which improved the tour even more. I wholeheartedly recommend the tour.

Night time guided walking tour of Gion, Kyoto.

Picturesque night time views of Gion. We had a great time. Our guide was very informative and made the tour interesting. Recommend this tour as a nice way to take in Gion and see some of the historic buildings which look even better at night.

Booked this as I was with a group who had done it the night before. Our guide Sho was great. Very easy to find the meeting point. We saw 2 Geisha. Definitely recommend a tour as the streets are a maze and you would struggle without one, especially at night. Saw three Shinto shrines too. I loved it.

Wonderful, wonderful wonderful

Experience was good interms of places Sho took us , at night without any tourist I had some great clicks , we even spotted Geisha. Sho was a great and fun host.

Would Do Sho's Tour Again

Sho is an excellent tour guide! As a repeat Japan visitor from Hawaii (10 times before), and first time visitors from CA, my friends and I enjoyed this tour of Gion for the first time, and we all enjoyed it very much! Sho tour was about an hour and a half, taking us to many shrines, the main geisha headquarters's office, and sharing a lot of informative information. Although we didn't see any geisha or maiko that night (beyond Sho's control), he tool us to the "backroads" for a better chance to cross paths with a geisha. I especially appreciate Sho keeping his tour limit to 6. This gave each of us (4 in our group) a very personal tour. We passed a couple other walking tours that had over a dozen people! Highly recommend this young man's tour. He's friendly, did a lot of research, and will offer you a great experience! My daughter and her husband are planning a trip in December, and I'll recommend Sho's..tour to them!

Lovely tour guide exploring the 'top' sights

Firstly our tour guide was so lovely and friendly and the cost of the tour was so cheap. He took us to all the top spots and offered to take pictures for us which was great. However, the tour guide did not appear to have great knowledge about the area and about the geishas and meiko (history etc). The information we received was very minimal and when asked questions he often did not know the answer/did not understand the questions. I feel really bad being critical as he was so lovely but I did not feel like I learnt very much about the area. So if you just want guided to the top spots to get some pictures then this tour is for you. However, if you want an in-depth tour exploring the history and current information about the area then this tour is maybe not for you.

Sho was great!

Sho was amazing! He was on time and knowledgeable. Took us to spots we wouldn’t have gone by ourselves and taught us the history of Gion. Was a great tour. Highly recommend!

Sho did a great job...

Sho did a great job showing us around the district. He took us through the so called “secret” alleys. He even helped us spot a maiko. Gion is magical by the night with less crowds and we had a great time.

Quite a nice experience

Announced as a night walk through Gion the walk also took us through South Higashiyama and Sannenkaza, which was somewhat surprising since we expected a chance to get deeper into the officially restricted Gion areas. Hey! We spotted one Geiko floating by and one Maiko and Sho explained about the difference and even led us past the Geisha main office (the building gives no hint whatsoever what is going on there). Sho is a nice guy who did his best and walked us to some extremely nice shrines and temples we otherwise would not have come across on our own. A slight drizzle helped to visit these sites almost tourist-free and the area certainly is a must see. Downside (it would be unfair to others not to mention) is that Sho, although eager, wasn't as talkative as you'd expect from a guide - we would have wished for some extended explanations on historic backgrounds, peculiarities of historic japanese architecture etc. Overall a quite nice experience.

Worth it !!

Sho-san gave us a wonderful evening tour of Kyoto Gion area and showcased his local and historical knowledge throughout. We were impressed both with his age and english. We would highly recommend this tour if you want to experience a relaxing (almost tourist free) stroll across hidden streets and shrines while taking magical photos - some of which he took for us!

A peaceful night tour

We had a great time with Sho in the Gion district. He showed us around and shared a lot of interesting history and facts about the area. Because it was evening we couldn’t see everything clearly, but he came prepared with foto’s so we could still get an impression. He was also happy to answer any questions we had. We would definitely recommend Sho to anyone visiting Kyoto.

Very kind tour guide

Sho was a great tour guide, group was small so was a perfect get a lot of attraction shots in a short time plus night time is way less packed and different perspective at night. He also helped us with carry our baby stroller, so very helpful young man.

A wonderful walking tour

Sho guided me to famous places and less touristy places. If I had done my own Google research, I would have visited only the places that everyone knows and are crowded. I was amazed at his knowledge as well. It was a wonderful walking tour.

Kyoto walking tour a wonderful and historic experience

The part about this trip was So and his kindness and welcoming spirit. The tour started at an easily recognizable location with So waiting for my arrival. He took me through the Gion section, and had done his research to make sure that I fully experienced the history of the area without running afoul with the new rules restricting photos on private street. I also appreciated that So asked my interests and preferences so we could tailor the trip. For example, his questions lead to a wonderful surprise shrine which was I was not aware of but which was the peaceful experience I desired. So was also very generous with taking photos for me, and provided explanations and insight into what I was seeing to make this trip memorable. This walking tour was a wonderful introduction to Kyoto.

Perfect and easy tour!

The tour guide was very patient! The whole night was very relaxing and the sights were especially beautiful! Especially worth mentioning that the tour guide was very professional in taking photos, and took a lot of beautiful photos for me, which is f very important for the tour!

Private tour of Gion at night, highly recommended

Sho was a great tour guide and this was a private tour which made it extra special. Sho took me to see really beautiful places in Gion including the best places to see the cherry blossoms. The tour was at night so he took me to visit places that were less crowded at my request which I was very grateful for. He knew where to take the best photos, was exceptionally kind and very patient with me, not rushing me along in the slightest. His English was very good and he had a lot of knowledge about Gion and the history of Kyoto. You can tell that he does the job as he loves the area and wants to show people the best parts of it rather than doing it for the sake of it. I learnt a lot and had a really fun experience. This was the highlight of my Japan trip and I can’t recommend Sho enough! Thank you Sho

Best walking tour in Kyoto!

Sho is the best tour guide you could get! He pay attention to details and guide me through language and culture barriers as a first time visitor of Japan. We had a excellent time walking on the street of Kyoto. We also went to parks and temples. If you want to enjoy your time and learn something new, Sho's tour is your best choice in Kyoto!

Walking around Kyoto Gion at night

It's a good time to walk at night, where you can experience the different scenery at night. The tour guide who took us this time told some introductions about geishas and some temple-related things. The entire trip is basically a walk around Hanamikoji, Gion, and finally exiting at Yasaka Shrine. The trip is quite short, so if the price per person is cheap, this trip is quite suitable.
