Glimpse of old Kolkata!

My wife and I had a good glimpse of old time Kolkata with our guide Mr Paul. We walked around Dalhousie Square, Writer's Building, St John's Church, Victoria Memorial and Mother's House. We had requested for a car so we were able to do the longer distances by car.

Great tour with great guide

Very interesting trip with a very competent and knowledgeable guide. I could learn more about british influence on kolkata. I saw incredible monuments such as st john'church, governor's building and Victoria Memorial which is stunning, especially at night. The guide let me explore victoria memorial at my own pace, and I could enjoy the park surounding the building. Overall a memorable tour.

Average experience

Average guide who showed us the interesting sights and gave general explanations. However we didn’t enjoy the crazy driving nor the dangerous ways he took us walking on fast and chaotic streets making us walk in the road and not on sidewalks

The walking tour with Mr. Anirban, our guide was truly a great experience. His passion to share knowledge and historical facts in the development of Kolkata till 1911 under the British Raj is worth listening. Each iconic building of Kolkata made during that time has fascinating history behind it.

Beautiful Introduction to Kolkata

We had Anirban introduce us to Kolkata on our first day arriving into India. Our grandparents were Anglo Indians and we wanted to get a feel for the history and what life was like back then. Anirban did not disappoint, he is very passionate about his city and has a deep knowledge on the history of Kolkata and the British Raj era. I would thoroughly recommend.

Good buildings tour

Anirban was my guide. He was very knowledgeable. 3 hours of tour is very proper time to walk around important buildings. Recommend for anyone who visit Kolkata for the first time.

A great loo into Indias past

Really got a feeling for how India interfaced with the world and the British Empire the last 400 years. Really cool to see how the original Empire buildings are mostly still standing. Thank you for also personalizing the tour and giving us some insights into other things to see.

Great walk tour

Our first visit to Kolkata and this “British Raj walking tour” caught my interest. We were lucky to get Brarati as our tour guide. Bratati picked us from our Gotel and she started our tour with an energy packed “share market street chai” - All ready for the next 3 hour walking expedition!. Bratati shared her knowledge and introduced us to the British era in Kolkata. Starting late 17 th century, early 18th century when the Britishers stepped in and discovered the immense potential to their benefit - both economical and personal interest . She took us through the British colonial lanes where early days of Kolkata began. She filled us with little tales that made our tour more lively and piqued our interest in knowing more. The stories of young British lads, the dating lake, the struggle to survive this foreign land and making a fortune. Bratati had a tale for each single building standing in The British colonial district. She ensured we get to visit these monuments even when it was closing time for some, with her local connect. We ended the tour with the iconic yellow Ambassador cab ride back to our hotel, she settled the fare bargain as well. Bratati made a perfect tour guide for first time visitors like us! I really enjoyed this tour, my guide Anirban has a wealth of knowledge. With his descriptions I felt like I was actually there when the colonial buildings were being built. Kolkata has that feeling about it, Anirban was right about it being a time machine. I would really recommend this tour to anyone. Chai and toast, excellent.

Sauvik was knowledgeable and easy to get along with. I booked a group tour but ended up being the only one and Sauvik showed a couple of extra places

Fascinating stroll through Calcutta’s history

Shaha expertly told the story of Calcutta’s founding and rule from its origins as the hub of the vast East India company empire thru Parliamentary control and Independence. We began with masala chai and strolled through history as framed by Calcutta’s architecture and parks. St. John’s church and its monuments provided incredible detail and Shaha answered all of our questions with humor and a keen sense of perspective regarding this complex and difficult legacy. We wrapped up at the Victoria Memorial. Shaha packed quite a lot into just under 3 hours. Highly recommend this tour.

Informative tour with knowledgable guide

Guide was very knowledgable about the history of Kolkata and it was a pleasure to spend a few hours in his company. Overall it was a great introduction to the British history of the city.

Absolutely everything about the tour was nice . Mr Anirban started the tour on time , was very well versed with the history anda thorough gentleman . The tour gives an overview of the historic monuments at Dalhousie square and ends with a cab taking you to the Victoria memorial.. a must visit place .. Would highly recommend to take this tour !

Disappointing for the price point; Knowledgeable Guide

The guide was very knowledgeable but outside of St. John's church and Victoria Memorial, we did not get to see any of the buildings from the inside. It was a bit disappointing for the price point.

Great tour to hear about the history of Kolkata

We really enjoyed our tour with Anirban. The time just flew by. We got some tea at the beginning of the tour then walked around lots of the British colonial buildings in ‘white town’. Anirban was great company and very knowledgeable. We also got to ride in a yellow taxi to see the Victoria memorial which was beautiful! Highly recommend this tour.

Memorable walk in Kolkata

Abhishek led the British Raj walk and what a magnificent day it turned out to be ! We walked past spectacular building like the Writer building, Raj bhavan and Victoria memorial. Abhishek told us about the time of East India company and then when the British empire controlled Kolkata. The stories were fascinating and we also got a glimpse of life today in modern Kolkata. It was a highly memorable day.

Fascinating heritage walk in Kolkata

British Raj walk was an amazing experience for us. Abhsihek was a fantastic guide who not only knew his history but made it very interesting with anecdotes and bh relating it to life in modern Kolkata. The history is rich and its a fascinating experience reliving the past. We explore majestic churches, a splendid museum and several British buildings like the Victoria memorial, Raj bhavan, writers building. We even visited the memorial of Charnock, the founder of British Kolkata. I would highly recommend this walk. In 3 hours you time travel to an eventful period in the city's history.

Walk down memory lane in British Kolkata

The British heritage walks was simply one of the best heritage walks i have ever done anywhere in the world. It was a fascinating experience with Abhishek as he showed us the influence of British and the East india company in the life of people living in Bengal at that time. The monuments are spectacular and we heard some intriguing stories. The Museum is outstanding with a fantastic collection. Victoria memorial was grand as shown in the pictures. I also enjoyed the walk through several churches and the memorial of Charnock the founder of British Kolkata. This is an awesome walk and highly recommended to every visitor in Kolkata,.

British Raj walk

Abhishek hosted us on this spectacular British Raj Walk in Kolkata. He met us right on time and was very knowledgeable about the history of Kolkata. He was passionate and made the walk very interesting. He talked about the architecture as well as the stories behind the monuments. It was a fascinating day looking at Charnock memorial, Raj Bhavan, Indian Museum, St John's church and Victoria memorial. The museum has a special mention as the collection is awesome. The walk takes around 3hours and is well worth it.

British Raj Walk

We had an excellent experience during the British Raj Walk in Kolkata. Abhishek was a phenomenal guide. He was on time and showed us all the great monuments like the Writers building, Victoria memorial as well as the mausoleum of the founder of modern Kolkata. He explained the impact of British rule in the society and how do modern Kolkatans live today. It was a very fulfilling walk as we learnt so many things about this fascinating city with such a. rich heritage. This is a must do to learn more about Kolkata.

Incredible heritage experience

I had a Saturday off and took this heritage walk. Abhishek was a mind blowing guide. He was so well read and knew his history and also went a long way to make me feel comfortable. We visited landmarks like the Writers Building, Vistorial Memorial and the Raj Bhavan. Abhishek also took me to the Indian Museum and his inputs made my visit a lot more enriching. We also visited a quaint memorial of a person called Charnock. He was the founder of British Kolkata. He also gave me a great perspective of life in Kolkata today. I met a few interesting local people. I even had a nice local snack in a famous eatery.

We were met by Abhishek at entrance of St John church and the next 3 hours were an outstanding experience. He took us to monuments steeped in historical significance like the Writers building, Victoria memorial, Indian museum and Charnock memorial. This is a heritage walk which begins at StJohn's church and then goes past several monuments of historical importance. Abhishek took us to Writers building, Raj Bhavan, Charnoc memorial and Victoria memorial.his knowledge of the museum was amazing and we had a great guided tour of the artifacts. Abhishek met us at the St John's Church and guided us through a 3 hour walk around all the important places of Colonial significance like the Writers building, Victoria Memorial, Charnock and the Museum. Walking tour

We chose a half day walking tour of the British Raj to get a sense of colonial Kolkata. The tour did not disappoint. We were able to get into places an ordinary tourist could not, such as Marble Palace, and learned the significance of the many monuments at St John’s church, which was fascinating. Abhishek was very knowledgeable and informative. He was patient and happy to answer our what must have been basic questions. It was a worthwhile introduction to Kolkata under the British Raj.

Fantastic heritage walk

Abhishek was such a magnificent guide for the British Raj walk. We started with the majestic st John church with its legendary pipe organ. We even got someone to play it for us! What an experience. We visited many interesting buildings like the Writers, governor house, Victoria memorial and the Indian museum. Abhishek was patient and very well read. 5Senses Kolkata Tour was brilliant

I recommend this to anyone with a few hours to spare in Kolkata. The route was interesting, the places we saw and visited a fascinating sample of colonial India and its evolution (and decay in some cases) to the present day. The guide was brilliant - well-informed, articulate, young, patient and friendly. He was responsive to my needs and interests and made the entire experience a delight. Do it!

Best tour if you only have a few hours

If you want to watch the real Calcutta and you're only a few hours away, this tour is the thing. Looked at beautiful sights that are impossible to find at all on google. All this was accompanied by a very interesting account of the colonial era and the emergence of India. I recommend it.
