Knowledge and experience of the intricate art of block printing

This was an excellent off tourist experience to get to the heart of block printing in Jaipur. My daughter and I learnt the intricate skill of block printing from making blocks to colors to actually printing a scarf. Monty is extremely warm , deep knowledge of the art and ensuring tourists have a great experience. On a hot day Monty had never ending supply of cold water bottles. Monty and Pannu are excellent

Monty provided me with a lot of interesting history of woodblock printing in India. It was great going behind the scene and witnessing these artisans at work. Great experience actually carrying out the technique and making your own creation. Monty personally has a lot of travel experience, knowledge is warm and very helpful.

One of my favorite experiences in Jaipur!

I absolutely adored this experience. This was not touristy AT ALL and was in a true block printing factory. Getting to watch the artisans design these incredible fabrics was so eye-opening. This is a beautiful art. The class itself was really educational and enjoyable. I got to make a beautiful scarf and really enjoyed designing it. Getting to first hand try block printing was really fun! Highly recommend this tour in Jaipur. It was truly one of my favorite experiences!

Amazing experience

It was great to learn about the history of block printing and hear about each step on the hand block printing, for example carving the blocks and making the colours. We watch some amazing printing being done in the warehouse and then we had a go ourselves and printed a scarf each. This was an amazing experience that we both really enjoyed and Monty and the team were lovely! Thank you!

Insightful block printing

Amazing day, we felt completely welcome the second we got to the factory and were shown around the different rooms whilst Monty explained the different steps to block printing. We made our way up to the top floor to start our own block printing and the process was explained in huge detail by Monty which resulted in the beautiful outcome of our scarfs, I felt so much more knowledgeable after the class. I really recommend!

The highlight of our trip to Jaipur!

We had the most fantastic morning at the handblock printing class with Monty! We learnt so much about this traditional process and made beautiful scarves, picking our own colour schemes and patterns. Monty and his team were so friendly and helpful, and made us feel at home with a tour around the factory and some delicious Masala Chai. We would 100% recommend this experience to anyone visiting Jaipur. We only wish we had more time so that we can also join Monty’s cooking class too.

The best paint blocking class with the best guide and kindest paint block workers! This class was a full immersion of paint blocking and was the most wonderful experience. The whole family (young adult/ adult) enjoyed (and even dad!) If you’re thinking of doing a tour/class, this one is it! Seriously, don’t miss it!!

One of the best experiences in Jaipur!

We thoroughly enjoyed this class. Our group of six all found it to be a very enjoyable experience, and it is one of our favorite memories from our trip. Monty is very knowledgeable about the history of the craft. We toured the facility and learned about the process. Then his team showed us how to create our very own block printed scarves. The length of the class was perfect. I would love to do it again in the future. Highly recommended!

Authentic experience!

This really was a cool experience! We just had to try this hand block printing after attending Monty’s wonderful cooking class the evening before, and we were not let down. Interesting to watch and learn how this is actually done, and to see for ourselves how the production line works. Really impressive! You get to work side by side with the employees of the factory, and we got a lot of help. The place was on a remote location so we were a bit skeptical when we arrived, but Monty waited by the road to greet us and showed the way, and also made sure we got safely on a taxi back to our hotel when we were done. Highly recommended if you want a non-tourist experience in Jaipur, insight into the industry and learn a new skill!

A fantastic group experience for anyone who loves Jaipur’s famous block prints

We added this tour to our itinerary relatively late, and I’m glad we did. It’s taken for granted that Jaipur produces beautiful block print textiles, and seeing exactly how it’s done and meeting some of the people keeping this art alive was special. Our nephews (ages 15 and 12) loved it, and the best part was actually making prints. I left feeling a much deeper appreciation for the craft.

Love love love

Monty was personable, communicative, thorough and overall a gentleman. He has travelled extensively and you can see that he is trying to bring the best of Jaipur to visitors who have a short time in his city, and succeeds. The tour of the factory was so interesting - it takes maybe 25 minutes and then you spend another 25 making the product. You spend the remainder waiting for the scarf to dry but in all honesty it’s time well spent. Hands down worth the money. Just for information - it’s always a scarf that you design and there are no options on colours. The only option you make is on the type of block you want to use to make the pattern itself, ranging from way to difficult. It might be nice if guests could perhaps choose the colours for themselves but overall it doesn’t take from the experience. We were looking for something that both created an authentic experience of India and Jaipur and allowed us to appreciate the real skill of handmade products and this both met and exceeded those expectations. Loved it.

It was a very valuable experience. I recommend taking a Jaipur sightseeing tour at first and this block printing workshop afterwards . Here, you can learn about the history of block printing, how it is made, and choose from a few patterns to create your own original scarf. You can take your creation with you, making it a special experience and souvenir. Monty, who manages this factory, is a former International Travel Guide. He has returned to Jaipur and runs this family business, not only showcasing special block prints but also introducing Jaipur and Indian culture. They are incredibly kind, beautiful, and lovely people. If you're looking for some tours, guides or special experiences in Jaipur, you should definitely choose them. I definitely recommended !!!

Great experience!

Perfect hour and half experience in Jaipur. About 45 min learning and watching the process in a real production facility and then 45 min doing our own printing on a cotton sheet we got to take home. Can use as a table runner, scarf, etc. Great host, very kind and accommodating

Excellent hand block printing workshop that makes for a meaningful travel experience

Excellent experience learning about hand block printing in Jaipur. Monty was a great host and showed us through the entire process before helping us make our own pieces. The prints were very beautiful too and we got to take home a scarf made by us. I did it with my 6 year old niece and she thoroughly enjoyed it too. We misread the timing of the workshop and arrived early but Monty was kind enough to start early for us. I will definitely do this workshop again on my next trip!

It's amazing to see the process by artists and then get to try your hand at block printing. It was very fun. Monty did a great job of explaining the process and then helping us. You cannot miss out of this experience while in Jaipur.

We had an amazing time during this experience. We learned a lot about the process of hand block printing and it was very cool to see the operations of a real workshop, from the hand block printing to the final product. For our session, we printed on our own scarves. It was simple enough for first timers, but also enough of a challenge to make it an interesting experience. Monty was also very friendly and suggested some places to shop and visit. Would definitely recommend this experience and will try the other offerings of Monty and Harshita on our next visit.

My 10 year old daughter loved it!!

An authentic experience that is very well organised by Monty.I went for it with my 10year old and we had fun.The best part was when we got to do our own block printing on an apron and also make a block printed scarf. It took about 2.5 hours for the whole process but if one is looking beyond the usual tours and also is interested in art then this is much recommended

A very interesting and authentic experience!

This is one of those experiences I would have never experienced without going on this tour. ITo learn more about blockprinting it was great! Absolutely authentic. We got an introduction into the history of Jaipur and blockprinting. The guide was very knowledgeable, explaining the different techniques and paints. Then we walked in, and already saw the first people actively working on fresh blockprints. It was very astounding to see the precision the workers worked with! And the most fun part was printing it ourselves, which was a bit tricky, but gave me a beautiful souvenir to remember!

Unique experience immersed in local crafts

A must for any textile passionate. Monty and the artisans have unique knowledge and the finest skills to share. We are so happy we got the chance to witness block printing and trying it ourselves. Definitely better than any other workshop that there is in Jaipur, neater and high level of quality.

A Holiday Highlight

I would definitely recommend this experience for people visiting Jaipur. Monty, having learned the block printing process himself, is a very knowledgeable tour guide. The whole process is fascinating, from learning about the making of the wooden blocks and watching them being used to create intricate patterns on the fabric, to making your own souvenir scarf as a wonderful momento of your trip. Seeing the colours change as the dye was fixed using sulphuric acid and nitrates was amazing. Even my husband wore his scarf for the remainder of the holiday!

Super cool and unique block printing experience

Block printing has been a part of the tradition, culture and industry in Jaipur for many years. Seeing the workshop and being able to do our own block printing was a fantastic experience. Monty is really well-travelled and can answer any question.

Overall a brilliant experience

Overall a great experience, Monty is brilliant and such a great guide and host. He has vast experience and was kind enough to stay with us and find us a taxi out of the area after the workshop. The workshop itself is great fun and the staff are very helpful, we thoroughly enjoyed making our own scarves and learning about how this amazing art is done from block carving to printing. A couple of things that may improve it personally for us was that the meeting instructions were a little vague and given the area feels a little isolated it would be good to meet somewhere more defined or arrange pick ups from hotels? Also there are a lot of chemicals used in the process and none of the staff had protective gear on, I appreciate this is india and things don't always work that way but I did feel for the staff inhaling and handling the chemicals all day when making beautiful items for a large US company (Pacific and Rose) who charge a fortune for them. As I say overall I thoroughly enjoyed it but the meeting point and safety for staff could be improved.

Cannot miss this! It's art from beginning to end

This was one of the most interesting tours I've ever been to! I had seen the blocks being sold in the streets but I had no idea how much detail oriented hand block printing could get. From the wood carving, which can take a few hours to a few days, to the very precise printing, which ties the pattern together stamp after stamp, you can see the design coming alive after each color is applied. And the magic happens during an acid and salt bath, which brings out the true colors on the fabric. After learning about the process and seeing many people working at different stages of different designs, the true icing on the cake is getting to express your creativity and experience printing your very own fabric! Now every time I see someone wearing a stamped piece of clothing, I see it through a different lens. I think to myself whether that was hand printed, and if so, how much work, attention and dedication went into each step of the process. It truly is an art, and I'm glad I got to see it first-hand. Thank you Monty for taking us! It's gonna be a day to remember.

If you are looking for something different from conventional tourism, join this experience. I was delighted with the hand-printing factory and the long and delicate process of producing each piece. Monty told us the story of hand-printing factories across India and the factory workers were very kind to me. I even had the opportunity to create the complete design of my own. It was very cool. It's worth participating. That was my favorite experience in India. 🇮🇳💗

I loved that we had the opportunity to observe the different steps in the block printing process close up. Our hosts at the factory were all very nice and helpful as we created our own scarves. This was a highlight of our trip to Jaipur and I couldn’t recommend it enough.

Amazing hands on experience

This tour on fabric production was unbelievably eye opening. Seeing how many printed fabrics are in the shops and on the streets, I assumed there was some level of automation involved. Walking through the building, it was incredible to see how many people were involved in the process, and that it was handmade from start to finish. I had no idea how difficult hand stamping was, but after trying it myself you’ll learn how skilled the workers are!

Must try authentic experience in Jaipur

Hand block printing was a really genuine experience where we got the chance to enter an actual factory, saw the men at work, got the end to end process explained and then had the opportunity to hand print ourselves a piece of scarf. This is not one of the touristy kind of experiences where you see a bunch of tourists lined up to take part at the same, but an authentic one, that we truly recommend if you are curious about this very specific printing technique.

It was a cultural and very rewarding experience. We can give even more value to the artists who do this work!

I highly recommend this experience. It really took us deep into the whole process and being in the factory with all the amazing people and materials is like no other activity. The workshop is nicely created so you can really learn and enjoy this beautiful art.

Fun intro to blockprint

A good, easy way to get a glimpse into this ancient craft! I liked that this was a real, working studio and that it was in the city rather than driving to the blockprint areas outside the city. For a short intro to blockprint this was really fun! Nice people too!

Educational and fun experience

Monty went above and beyond to organize a great tour of his factory. He even helped me get to the metro station safely afterwards when I was having a bad luck with Uber and suggested an amazing lunch place. Highly recommend!

Experience and support the locals

We visited the factory at New Year’s Eve. Monty presented the hand blocking printing factory which run by the locals. We learnt from the background of this culture to the procedures. Moreover, we are allowed to make our own design scarf.

A field trip as an adult 😎

My partner and I had a great time! Felt like getting to go on a field trip as an adult. Monty provided the "just right" amount of background on the art of block printing while we got to watch artists work in real time. We had help from Monty and an artist while working on our own scarf. Nice add-on to our stay in Jaipur!
