A Great Window into the Renaissance Period

A must visit. The grounds offer beautiful gardens and walking trails. The castle and its contents offer a unique window into the Renaissance Period. The collection goes well beyond the family items for Ferdinand II.

1/2 of the building is closed. The upper castle is unavailable. The lower case is very nice. There was almost no one there.

Not just a castle tour....quite a museum too!

Perfect way to start a tour of Innsbruck. This self guided tour is inexpensive and super informative. Collections from the very FIRST museum ever started in the world! We went on a weekday and had the entire castle and museum to ourselves. One word of caution is that when you leave the castle (which is above and overlooking the city) the city bus is really the only option and you must get a ticket to ride in the city (nowhere near the castle!). The bus driver was really nice and let us ride back to the city without a ticket. We repaid the local people with Karma in various ways for the wonderful treatment that they showed us tourists.

Nice castle visit

Is a good palace with an stunning spanish hall. However the exhibit is not that extent and the price a bit high I believe. Is good if you like castles like me.

Very nice castle with many interesting aspects

This was a very nice castle with a interesting history. A great display of armor. There were peacocks and lizards roaming the grounds. A pond with fish and large green area. There was a amazing hall. As well as many interesting displays.

Beautiful- definitely worth visiting

Lovely and well curated but not a must-see

If you have a car, I'd give this 4 stars. If you're coming by bus and have to walk up the giant hill to the castle, I'd give it three stars (the walk is pretty steep and there are very few signs and lots of paths to get lost on). The castle has been very nicely restored and curated. The rooms are quite lovely and it has a really great vibe. The museum collections are not the most interesting, though: dozens and dozens of portraits of Hapsburgs. Just a portrait of a person standing there. (I majored in Art History at university and portraits were my least favorite. Sorry.) And then there is a giant collection of glassware. Glasses with flowers, glasses with gold painting, glasses with carving. Lots and lots of glasses and carafes and that sort of thing. If you like that, wonderful!

Beautiful castle.

We visited this castle on a rainy day and we were really suprised. We loved the musuem of wonders, i found it amazing. And i really liked all the history behind the castle. The only thing we found a little boring was the 3 floors of portraits. Were not a big fan of art. Well worth the entrance fee.

Picturesque castle

Fantastic castle nestled within a city park. Beautiful rooms and very informative. Enjoyed the castle and walking the garden paths.

Inhuman and rude attitude of personal

The castle has big collection of royal portraits and temporary exhibition of antique art subjects. Nevertheless I got very negative feeling from being there and was in a rush to leave it as soon as possible. Employees in the rooms follow you everywhere, watch your every motion and start shouting at you as soon as you just stretch your hand to show something on the painting for you children (without touching of course). They are especially against children and like wild dogs look at them with suspicion. I am an artist myself and wished to spend more time to admire the portraits, but I constantly felt sharp glance of those “ art gendarmes“ on my back. In addition they follow you step by step till the next room and whisper “warnings” to the next chain gendarme, who keeps following you just step behind, wherever you go. I never felt so disgusted from visiting art museum in any country of the world. Must say, people probably feel it and don’t come here. It is almost empty. Definitely would not recommend to come to this unfriendly place!

Great to visit for 2 or 3 hours.

For a rainy day we decided to go and visit Schloss Ambras, it turned out to be a good choice! Our children really liked the gardens and the knightsarmer. We enjoyed the paintings and the wonders cabinet. The staff was very friendly and also with the Covid rules this place is good to go and see all the art that is to enjoy. Busstop is nearby and children under 18 can go for free.

Has entree fee

This is a picture perfect renaissance castle and palace built in a hill above the valley. The place has a well manicured picturesque vast garden with flowering plants even.

Enjoyable enough visit

Walked on over from Innsbruck old town. Wish they could have clearer markings for walkers. Google showed us one way, signage another. Should have trusted Google. Lol. Grounds are nice and well kept. Museum had a nice collection of armour and a few weapons. Main castle had a few rooms that were set up as actual rooms versus museum type displays (mainly the Spanish hall and the chapel). Most of the castle walk through was of portraits and displayed pieces of furniture which gave more of a museum feel over the sense that you're in a castle. None of the rooms are set up as living quarters. Overall a pleasant visit and no real complaints. I'd certainly recommend a visit if the agenda allows.

Out of town museum of royal collections

It seemed a good idea to take advantage of the transport offered by the Innsbruck hop on and off bus, to venture into Schloss Ambras, and we were not disappointed. Down a driveway into a wooded area, we found an impressive Castle where Ferdinand 11 stored a number of of his collections, notably of armour and weapons, but also of other curios and notable objects. These are stored in a series of rooms that seem made to accommodate them. Cabinets and lighting display them beautifully. Memorable objects for me include child- sized armour made to compensate young members of his extended family born, for example, to a parent not of royal birth. There was obviously interest in genetic or other birth defects that led to such conditions as hirstuteness or dwarfism. The castle exterior is partly constructed of wood, which makes it picturesque, and the pleasant cafe provides enjoyable small meals.

Hop on /off stop

We hopped off the bus to take a look at the Castle. An absolutely lovely building and grounds to walk round. The main hall is something to behold with all the past emperors and royalty painted on the walls a truly magnificent room. Walking round the castle there were some interesting rooms with baths / sauna's in and how the water was heated. There is a collection of glassware on display dating back hundreds of years all very interesting. There is a shop on site and a small cafe in one of the courtyards. There is also another exhibition of Armoury near the ticket office and gives you an in - depth description of what it weighed and how it was used who wore it. All very interesting and well worth the visit

Beautiful Castle, Grounds, and Views

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the castle - it is well laid out, the descriptions are in German and English. Guides are throughout the property and are helpful. We had an Innsbruck Card so entry was included in the card. We had a hard time getting to the Castle on the bus system so we got off the bus and hailed a cab - less than 10 Euro and he took us to the front - well worth it. The gift shop called a cab for us when we finished. The tour route is in 2 sections: Armor/Curiosities or Main Castle. They are both wonderfully done and so many interesting things to see. The quality of preservation of items so old is impressive. There is a great deal to see and experience but you can also go at your own pace. We had about 2 hours attention span for this. The views are incredibly and the gardens beautiful. The peacocks on the property were a bonus!

Above expectations

Really above expectations also for the kids. A guided tour is strongly recommended. Kids liked the nice guide and what he told about the history of the castle through many interesting stories

The first portion of the experience...

<p>The first portion of the experience is good because it has centuries-old armories and the famous Spanish Hall. The castle itself is beautiful, but I expected it to be furnished so we could see what it looked like at that time. Instead we found floor after floor after floor of paintings. That part didn't quite meet our expectation.</p>

The Habsburg castle among family heirlooms and art

About 20 minutes by bus (for holders of the Innsbruck Card free ticket and free entry to the castle) from the center stands this Renaissance castle built in 1563 by Archduke Ferdinand II. The structure is divided into lower and upper castle and the collection, which aimed to collect stories of centuries of art and war and Habsburg relics, includes paintings by Van Dyck, Titian, Cranach and Velasquez; the armor room (of the Thirty Years' War, of the imperial family, baroque, sixteenth century and tournament); the Hall of Arts and Wonders with a splendid piano that belonged to Archduke Ferdinand II, the only example existing in the world; the Antiquarium (with the particular Plate of Fools); the wonderful Hall of the Emperors with the Habsburg family tree and images of the various Emperors; the large park can be used in summer until 9.30 pm. A visit not to be missed!

If you can only do one museum, this is it!

If there is one museum you must visit, it is this one. So varied, so fascinating, so atypical. The Spanish Hall… 'impressive'. Yes, but above all of an unseen splendor, colors, materials, execution ... The room for art and curiosities: what an exceptional collection. The realization that these objects were collected hundreds of years ago, the perfect craft,... We could walk around in them for a day! The arsenal, the collection of armor, the weapons,…. Also the presentation of it, with a little imagination there was suddenly a horde of knights in front of you. And then dream away at the unique starry sky (so beautiful), the glass collection and so on.

Be sure to walk through the old town! Ambras Castle, the Ferdinandeum, the Court Church and much more are absolutely worth seeing.

Fantastico

Non avevo mai visto armature per bambini. Piacevole sorpresa. Non sapevo che avrei trovato il Principe che ha ispirato la " Bella e la Bestia ". Mi sarebbe piaciuto vedere anche i piani superiori, magari la prossima volta. Grazie.

Definitely worth seeing

Well worth seeing, all areas are incredibly interesting. You should plan enough time to be able to look at the wonderful castle in peace. The gardens are also very beautiful and well-kept.

For armor lovers

Interesting for lovers of the Habsburg family and Archduke Ferdinand. Children without guidance or targeted activities may become bored.

Is worth

wonderful experience...the strong point is the armory with a unique collection of armour. The structure is wonderful and well maintained and the garden is also well looked after. The only flaw is the parking... there are few places outside to park.

Mignon

Le jardin est sympa, avec plusieurs paons et un parc très grand. Nous n’avons pas fait tout l’intérieur au vu de nombreux travaux.

Eine unfassbar schöne Anlage zum verweilen

Wunderschöne und weitläufige Anlage zum Staunen und Erkunden, wir waren in den drei Häuser und haben die eindrucksvolle Ritterrüstungssammlung bestaunt, etwas über die Familiengeschichte gelernt und Pfaue im Garten beobachtet

Visita che si può tranquillamente saltare

Esternamente carino, giardini veramente minimal, gli interni del castello veramente interessanti si riducono ad 1 salone. Direi che se ne può fare anche a meno. Molto più bello, ricco e interessante da vedere l’Hofburg in centro ad Innsbruck.

Castello residenza di Federico I , si trova poco distante d aInnsbruck raggiungibile comodamente con autobus di linea . Molto interessante la Visita degli oggetti preziosi da collezione , oro, bronzi, cristalli . Bellissimo il salone spagnolo.

Die Geschichte der Habsburger

Der Schloss Ambras und sein umliegenden Park sind einen Besuch wert. Der Park ist sehr gross, mit viele Bäume und bequeme Wege. Der Besuch des Parks ist kostenlos. Die Ausstellung im Schloss kann man in zwei Teilen unterscheiden. Im Unterschloss ist die private Sammlung des Herzherzogs: Rüstungen, Bildern, Manufakten aller Art aus aller Welt. Im Oberschloss kann man durch hunderte faszinierenden Portraits die Geschichte der Habsburger verfolgen. Wenn der ersten Teil als kurioser und sogar lustig bewerten kann, ist die Ausstellung im zweiten Teil eher schwieriger zu verfolgen; nicht desto trotz sind die Bilder sehr schön, auch wenn man an die ganze Hintergründe nicht interessiert ist. Der Besuch des Schlosses ist, meiner Meinung nach, nicht für Familie mit kleinen Kindern geeignet.

Castello tirolese con splendida camera delle meraviglie

Castello molto ben tenuto e visitabile in larga parte, con molti reperti esposti nelle sale, che quindi non risultano spoglie. Un punto in più pieno per la wunderkammer, unica nel suo genere ed estremamente ricca. Consigliata l'audioguida per godersi meglio la visita nella sua interezza e in particolare la camera delle meraviglie. I giardini sono molto belli, e meritano una passeggiata. Il prezzo non è economicissimo, ma si ripaga. Attenzione all'accesso, perché tra la fermata del bus e la biglietteria vera e propria è "obbligatoria" una passeggiata nel parco che porta via un po' di tempo.

Castello di Ambras per intenditori

Bellissimo castello tirolese. Ottimamente tenuto, curato e gestito. Prezzo biglietto congruo. Da visitare dentro, ma da visitare assolutamente anche fuori in ogni angolo, ci sono meraviglie ovunque.

Da vedere

Il castello e’ molto ben tenuto ed è visitabile sono una parte. Le esposizioni allestite sono curate e raccontano la storia degli Amburgo. La sala con la ritrattistica della famiglia è davvero stupenda come lo è la collezione di armature. Il parco è immenso ed è aperto dalle sei del mattino. Consigliata una passeggiata anche con bambini piccoli. Esperienza da provare!

Pobre

Fuimos porque estaba incluido con la Innsbruck Card. No vale mucho la pena, a no ser que tengas mucho tiempo libre y te guste pasear por un palacio. Todo está en muy buenas condiciones, pero la exposición tiene poco interés: armaduras, cuadros y rarezas en vitrinas. No hay muebles y la gran sala tampoco es para tanto. Además, como suele pasar en gran parte de los monumentos en la zona, no hay audioguía ni buenas explicaciones para contextualizarte (y solo en alemán o, con mucha suerte, en inglés).

Interessante...

Interessante il Museo soprattutto per gli appassionati di storia. I giardini molto belli con presenza anche di un pavone che sembrava non temere il passaggio di umani.

Jammer door arrogante, luidruchtige gids

Met ons gezin museum bezocht. Gekozen voor digitale audioguide die helaas overschreeuwt werd door een gids die een rondleiding gaf aan een grotere groep. Ze vond het nodig om veel mensen die ze te luidruchtig vond bijzonder onaardig aan te spreken (ons gelukkig niet, de kinderen wisten niet hoe snel ze uit haar buurt moesten blijven). Ze heeft ons bezoek behoorlijk verpest.

Spanischen Saal nicht auslassen!

Uns hat das Schloss sehr gefallen. Das Gebäude an sich ist schon sehenswert und die Lage über Innsbruck wunderschön. Unser Highlight war einerseits die Wunderkammer und andererseits der spanische Saal. Ein weißer Pfau hat sich auch sehen lassen.

Molto bello ma particolare

Un Castello piuttosto particolare: periferico rispetto al Centro della Città ma raggiungibile tranquillamente con gli ottimi mezzi pubblici di Innsbruck, il bus fa capolinea proprio davanti all'ingresso del vasto Parco all'interno del quale si trova lo Schloss Ambras; parco molto bello da percorrere in salita fino all'ingresso; un pò prima di arrivare e stando un pò lontano si ammira meglio la bellezza della costruzione, si può visitare un padiglione che ospita armature e busti di re e imperatori soprattutto dei tempi antichi (romani e greci), molto bello da vedere per il suo contenuto e per i suoi soffitti e poi è qui che si paga il ticket di ingresso e quindi perché non visitarlo? Si percorre quindi una salita e si arriva al castello attraverso un cortile spettacolare per i suoi disegni nelle pareti, bellissimi, preludio a chissà quali altre bellezze; all'interno non tutto è però così bello perché non ci sono mobili d'epoca e in generale le sale non sono arredate; troviamo belle stufe in ceramica, grandi quadri alle pareti, una splendida piccola Cappella per ritirarsi in preghiera; torniamo ad attraversare il bel Parco per ritornare in Centro senza trascurare di ammirare prima il bellissimo panorama della Città vista dall'alto e da una prospettiva diversa da quelle fin qui ammirate.

Sehr sehenswert

Während meine kurzen Urlaubs im Stubai Tal nutze ich die Nähe und verbrachte einen Tag in Innsbruck. Zu einem Stadtbesuch gehört dieses Highlight selbstverständlich dazu. Für 16 EUR Eintritt wird sehr viel Sehenswertes und Interessantes geboten. Vorallem die vielen Rüstungen haben mich beeindruckt. Man sollte schon ein wenig Zeit mitbringen. Das Schloss ist recht weitläufig und auch der wunderschöne Garten laden zum Verweilen ein. Wer mit dem Auto kommt, sollte bedenken, dass die kostenpflichtigen Parkplätze sehr limitiert sind.

Il parco da solo vale la pena la visita… a ciò ci aggiungi il castello con la sua storia!!!

Bellissimo parco. Palazzo fantastico. Un po’ pomposo , come tutti i musei, l’ interno. Con la Innsbruck card però l’ingresso è compresa nel pacchetto. Insieme a molte altre attrazioni della zona

Très beau et intéressant

Le château en soit est magnifique et chargé d'histoire. La visite est longue et l'on y trouve de nombreuses pièces historiques très intéressantes et rares. Visite faite en famille. Par contre le stationnement est très difficile sur place!

Spettacolare

Spettacolare questo castello rinascimentale e le sue collezioni di "meraviglie" e le armature dell'armeria del castello. E' possibile visitarlo con un'audioguida che ne svelerà la curiosa storia. i giardini e il parco intorno sono spettacolari.

À ne pas manquer

Très beau site et bâtiment très bien entretenu ! Les galeries sont magnifiquement restaurées des surprises vous y attendent. La collection d’armures est étonnante ainsi que les portraits. Le parc est également beau. On y passe un bon moment .

Visite très intéressante

Stupéfiante collection amassée par Ferdinand 1er. Armes, armures, cabinet de curiosité etc...... Galerie superbe. Ensuite la reste de la visite ne s'articule qu'autour des portraits des habsbourg et de leurs alliés. Salon de thé dans une très joli cours peinte en grisaille. (Pas d'avis sur le salon car nous n'avons pas consommé ) Architecture intéressante du château, différente des chateaux français. Nous avons aimė cette visite. Entrée à 12 euros plus le parking payant.

Einfach wundervoll!

An der südöstlichen Stadtgrenze Innsbruck ist der Schloss unbeschreiblich schön das wirklich sehenswert ist. Für einen Tagesausflug ein sehr zu empfehlender Ort umgeben von einem idyllischen Schlossgarten. Im inneren des Schlosses gibt es viel zu sehen und zu entdecken. Die Führung ist echt interessant und informativ und der Ausblick rund um das Schloss ist zauberhaft. Uns gefällt ganz besonders der 43m lange Spanische Saal (mit die malerische Gestaltung 27 ganzfigurigen Porträts): der zählt zu den schönsten freistehenden Saalbauten der Renaissance. Man kann mit dem Postbuslinie 4134 hochfahren, mit der Innsbrucker Mittelgebirgsbahn Igler (Straßenbahnlinie 6) oder Innsbruck Tourismus TS (The Sightseer). Die Schlossstraße ist städtische Parkstraßenzone und gebührenpflichtig mit eingeschänkt Parkmöglichkeiten.

Ausflug

Absolut empfehlenswert , bei der Besichtigung sollte man ein warme Jacke dabei haben, in den Räumen ist es kühl.

Il Castello È CHIUSO

ho acquistato due biglietti per il castello per scoprire solo ieri che è chiuso tutto il mese di novembre. Trovo scandaloso il fatto che sia possibile prenotare, e pagare in anticipo, senza che da nessuna parte ci sia scritto che è chiuso. Chiedo il rimborso dei biglietti, (almeno quello)..... considerando il disagio subito visto che nevicava!!!

Wunderschöner Tag

Die Lage ist traumhaft über Innsbruck und der Garten ist toll zum Spazieren. Innen gibt es viel über die Geschichte der Grafen usw und viele Portraits. Ein nettes Café im Innenhof ist auch da.

Magnifique

Un lieu à voir absolument, la salle d'armurerie exceptionnelle, les plafonds pareils, Un endroit immense, si on aime les portraits il y a de quoi faire, j'ai moins apprécié, sinon pour le reste, c'est d'après moi un endroit exceptionnel pour l'époque et le tracé de la vie de ceux qui y ont vécu.
