This was a fantastic way to see Port Arthur and some surrounding areas of Hobart. Mark was a sensational tour guide. He told interesting stories and brought the history of the area and Port Arthur alive. Would highly recommend this well planned and organised tour.

Friendly Port Arthur Tour

The whole Port Arthur tour was memorable, we had an amazing bus driver Colin who had a vast knowledge of the area and Port Arthur. Colin had some excellent dad jokes and made us feel comfortable. Definitely would recommend this tour.

Value for money

Great tour. Phil was very entertaining and very knowledgeable. Well worth the money. We also had the privilege of seeing a pod of dolphins on the harbour cruise where the captain spend some time ensuring that everyone on the boat enjoyed the view. Thanks

great site to slowly wander around and learn of our past. very moving to understand what horrible lives were lived by the convicts.

Excellent tour

Hugo the driver was amazing and so informative. Had a wonderful time with driving through Tasmania. Everyone is so friendly.

Hugo was a great driver and tour guide. Good knowledge and commentary. Very helpful. The lack of buggies for pax with mobility issues at Port Arthur was a little disappointing. The meals at Port Arthur were not value for money, over priced and poor quality. The tour operator cannot control this. Take a picnic lunch. Over all a very good day. Thank you Sue and Roy.

Nothing much to do.

Bruny wilderness tour is a must do in Hobart. For this tour do if you have many days to spare. Most of the relics were burnt down in a fire and more of a mock-up of what it was earlier.

They just take your money and after that they don’t care, just rushing you to the bus, no matter if you saw anything. They also still your money (they took half of our group Yi Port Arthur historical site without tickets, they just kept the money and did of don’t buy tickets). There are other companies much better.

Collin the bus driver was amazing our daughter absolutely loved the tour. Port Arthur was amazing did not think our daughter would enjoy it turns out she got really excited about it

Phil was an awesome guide! He was friendly, down to earth, and very knowledgeable. Highly recommend this tour especially with Phil.

Not the best company to deal with!

The trip was mediocre. We were dropped off at port Arthur to wander around and take a boat trip. Unfortunately we left an expensive item on the bus journey and after contacting the company many times and corresponding with them, our item (that they acknowledged they had), was ‘given away’ due to “time constraints”, even though they knew this was something we wanted returned. Very disappointing and bad form on their behalf. Would not recommend dealing with this company as they do not honor their commitment.

Colin went above and beyond

Colin the driver/guide has a wealth of knowledge and kept us entertained with his jokes. He went above and beyond in dropping us off very close to our accommodation. We took the bus trip to Port Arthur as part of our 3 Capes Adventure

Great day out

Port Arthur was fascinating, the online commentary really added knowledge and value to this experience and was easy to use. Carmel was our driver and her informal commentary was informative and helpful. Stops along the way we’re interesting, the trip to the caves being a hi-light Thanks for an excellent experience!

Past and present inhumanity explored

Vast coverage during a day of bright sunshine on some of the darkest events in Port Arthur during the past three centuries. The deeply moving reminders of the recent horror were set against the confusion and inhumanity of the prison life. Simply unforgettable. Bus driver Hugo brought his extensive knowledge of the surrounding area to life. His puns would have had him sentenced for 5 years minimum.

Absolutely beautiful

Absolutely beautiful tour. Driver (Carmel) was amazing, she was knowledgeable about the area and went out of her way to accommodate everyone on the tour.

Amazing and awesome tour

I gave this tour as a wedding present for my brother and his wife. They expressed the it was fantastic and very interesting and loved the sight seeing. I would recommend it. Thank you for making their experience so wonderful.

Port Arthur full day tour, a fascinating experience

This was a long full-day tour, but well worth the time. Our driver, Phil, was most accommodating, knowledgeable, and organized our time well. Port Arthur is a fascinating place, with local guides offering interesting talks. It is a huge area to cover so the time given is certainly required. The 'Cruise' is quite pleasant and offers a very nice view of the area from the water. One recommendation might be to book the 'Island of the Dead', tour and visit the graves of those buried there. I would certainly recommend this tour, which was booked via Grayline.

A wonderful tour.

Our guide Colin was a brilliant historian his knowledge was amazing. He also kept us laughing with his "dad" jokes, a lot of fun was had. Port Arthur was a beautiful place, so well cared for and so interesting. If you do nothing else while in Hobart, do this tour.

Hobart tours

The Port Arthur site visit is truly an excellent experience...viewing all those remnants, ruined structures in the past. However, the harbour cruise was pretty boring to me as there was not much to see.

FUN AND INFORMATIVE

We had an amazing time on the Port Arthur tour. Our tour guide Mark was exceptionally well informed about Port Arthur and its surrounds. He told numerous factual and fictional stories to keep us entertained throughout our trip. I felt as though I really learnt some great history of this amazing place. Thank you!

Just do it!

The tour was amazing and surpassed expectations. I would recommend this to anyone. Phil was our guide who kept us well informed of the history of the different areas we passed through. His jokes were great!

Great day trip.

Port Arthur is the most stunning place. Not what we were expecting. The layout, information and fantastic restoration made for a 5 star visit. All the other stops and points of interest were great too. Mark the driver was a wealth of information and a very nice guy.

Would recommend it to our friends

Hugo our fantastic bus driver made our tour come to life. He had fantastic knowledge of our trip and of Hobart and its history in general. He was very funny and friendly. Port Arthur was both interesting and sad. The added cave and Richmond bridge were just a highlight. We loved the trip and Hugo made it even better.

Good, however rushed.

It was a great day, our bus driver was lovely. However, the day felt very rushed. Could have had an earlier pickup to ensure we had enough time at Port Arthur.

Historical and Amazing!

We got on our bus with our driver, Collin and we lefty right on time. Collin drove well, was filled with information, and was quite humorous. We arrived in Richmond for a quick stop (bathroom break, quick photo with bridge) and the registers our bus to head to Port Arthur. Once we arrived at Port Arthur, Collin got our tickets, gave us the low down on activities and times, and then walked us in and gave a brief directional this is where this is at talk. We were on our own to enjoy this massive site. There are golf carts to help shuttle folks around who might need a lift. There are docent lead timed tours that are free but tours you need to pay extra for. The food was easy to get and quite good. Their gift shop has wonderful Tasmanian products as well as great Port Arthur items. Bathrooms around area are nice and clean. I would definitely recommend this tour.

A Must.

Phil kept up a running commentary with natural history, history of the whole place. He told us of the two centuries old times (a a little of the more recent. He also has some the worst puns I have heard. At the Port Arthur sits he got us inside and gave us a brief orientation, the set us loose. He also helped me get an add-on for the Isle of the Dead. The site is HUGE. I maybe saw a third. The buildings and the site are beautiful but he stories are not. But it is importamnt to understand our history. On the way back we drove through Doo Town (!), stopped at the Tasman Arch and a chocolate outlet. Close to Hobart he detoured to a lookout over the city.

Disappointing unfortunately

Was expecting a full day tour as the title suggests but had very little time at Port Arthur, was very disappointed. Left Hobart after 0900 and with very quick toilet stops, git to Port Arthur approximately 1115 and needed to be back on the bus to return to Hobart by 1520, no where near enough time!

Great day out

Loved all the stops and the bus driver, Mark, was very knowledgeable and helpful. The optional visit to Remarkable Caves is well worth the journey. Beautiful scenery 👌.

Light

Not so good organisation, enough light in spite of the beauty of the nature which is really impressive. It would be great to fulfill l’excursion to fill it with really impressive places to visite

Great to learn about

Very interesting and great to learn about our past. Some beautiful sites and learned a lot Port Arthur but also heaps more about Australian history

Amazing

Everything was awesome and memorable. Learned much about life during those times in Port Arthur. Will recommend to family and friends.

What a great "Doo Day"

From the pickup from our hotel to the drop off our driver Colin was the star of the day, with his witty jokes he made the journey to Port Arthur fun fun fun, :-) with lots of historical comment along the way. The whole tour was worth every penny, from time in Port Arthur (lots of history), trip on a boat around Port Arthur to a quick stop in Richmond (beautiful) to another quick stop for ice cream on the way back. I would totally recommend the full day tour. Have fun/enjoy!! Thanks again Colin!

A very informative journey with beautiful scenery

Very good day. Port Arthur is very Serene and looks very peaceful. Seeing the buildings you can only imagine what it used to be like. The scenery is absolutely breathtaking. Would definitely recommend going.

Darren the driver/guide was a cheerful person who gave a most interesting commentary. He was very helpful, explained things well and happy to answer questions.

Nature's artistic work

Tasmania Arch, Devil's Kitchen and Port Arthur - very interesting sites. But my highlight of the day was the Remarkable Cave, seeing how nature sculptured the landscape. It was windy and drizzling but our guide Jodi did a great job guiding us senior travellers on our private tour. Totally enjoyed my tour.

A long but interesting day. Hugo the driver was great . He made a few extra stops and was very entertaining.

Not a good tour for us

This tour was not as described. First, after booking and booking pick up, we received a message that we would not be picked up, and would have to make our own way to the pick up point. From the website: “Hotel pick up and drop off are included”. Not for us. The bus picked up a full load elsewhere, and we were left with the worst seats on the bus for the entire trip. The seats were horrible and cramped, with our knees jammed into the back of the seats in front. Then, the tour skipped the Pirates Cove stop. That was promised on the website. All the stops out were hurried, or indeed skipped, as the company had booked passengers on a second trip on our bus that had to make a connection, so all of the people on our tour were inconvenienced. From the website: “The guided Port Arthur Historic Site tour is included”. That is incorrect. There was no guided tour of Port Arthur on this trip. That is what we paid a premium for, and not received. Then, the driver’s microphone stopped working, and we were unable to hear any of the commentary on the two hour trip back. This was a terrible tour. I do not recommend it. Port Arthur was lovely. I suggest a different tour, though.

A slice of unvarnished history

Colin - our bus driver was very knowledgeable and humourous. This added so much depth to our journey and viewing of Port Arthur

Outstanding Experience.

This is a longer day, but so well worth it. Colin drove the bus and his side gig of being in Music Theater productions certainly added to his ability to make this trip fun! We went several places where we had been the day before, but the information we received had very little repetition. He gave us several hints about things to do and see, and the Port Arthur site was interesting. We did not book the Isle of the Dead, but several who did said it was really interesting. We opted not to go to the Remarkable Cave because we were so enthralled with Port Arthur. I know the cave was pretty, but we couldn't drag ourselves away from the site. Either way, you will not regret this tour, and if you happen to get Colin as your guide, you will love it!

Disappointing

Wasn't allowed to eat or have tea / coffee on the bus, which was the first time I experienced this on a day tour. It's a long time travelling, so being able to refuel is important. Some of us had to throw out our unfinished ice-creams at one of the stops because we weren't allowed them on the bus and were only allocated 10mins at that stop - not enough time for all passengers to be served and eat. It was a waste of our money. Not really impressed with the tour guide.

Great well organised tour.

Whole day was an eye opening experience. Our driver Barry was excellent as were the staff at Port Arthur. If you have mobility issues they did have "golf carts" to drive you to the main points of interest. The visit to Tasman Arch was well worth the little detour. Be aware that at the chocolate factory you can't take ice creams back on the bus so please don't do as one very rude young lady did to us and hold us up for nearly 15 mins. Highly recommend this tour.

Cancellations

We booked tickets to visit Port Arthur Historic Site but due to the port being cancelled by the cruise line we were unable to attend. We contacted Port Arthur Historic site by email and communicated with a lady called Jennifer I found her very helpful she replied very properly letting us know they would provide us with a full refund the money was back on my card within two days. We were very disappointed not to be able to go but have to say the costume service was excellent
