Mt Field, Mt Wellington & Tassie Devils Active Tour from Hobart

Nothing much to do

Our Mount Field was cancelled as the roads were closed. We were alighted halfway up to do a view of Hobart. Main highlight was feeding wallabies at Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary. For the wildlife sanctuary only 3 tassie devils and didn’t manage to see much other wildlife. As for mount Wellington nothing speculator, about 3 hour trekking.

Fantastic all in one experience

It was a fantastic day! Nick was very informative! I loved the Mt. Fields hike, the bonorong wildlife sanctuary meeting with mombats, tassie devils, echidna, feeding the kangaroos, mt wellington awesome view!

Long but satisfying day, goes quick

Tour was really good. Was a friendly and informative environment. The rainforest was refreshing and very nice to walk through. Bongarong was amazing, shame we only spent an hour there but I would’ve stayed there all day if we could. No koalas to be seen, none in Tasmania apparently. Mt. Wellington was good; bumpy ride but great view from the top.

Excellent trip, packed with many sights, but without rush. There is a walk in rainforest, some hiking, waterfalls, view from top of a mountain and interacting with Tasmanian animals: all in one makes a very good trip. Highly knowledgable guide provides a lot of information about flora and fauna. Highly recommended trip!

Nice hike for nice view

It is quite tiring for someone who does not hike a lot, however the view is worth the hike for sure. The tour guide was knowledgeable, loved all the local information provided by Heather.

Ian was a great tour guide and provided alot of relevant info as well as encouraging questions about the area. We went to places in a timely fashion and it was a great experience overall!

A full day of views, history, nature, wildlife, and tasty lunch recommendations

Jarrod was our tour guide and driver. He took the 8 of us on a tour covering 4 locations. We did an easy downhill hike through a beautiful temperate rainforest with waterfalls, then an animal rescue conservancy that included a guided explanation of several indigenous species, then the picturesque village of Richmond for lunch (we loved the scallop pie and for dessert lavender ice cream, both of which he recommended) and wandering, then the Pinnacle Lookout over Hobart. We covered over 100 kilometers and much of it on scenic 2 lane roads. We were picked up from our hotels at 7:45-ish and dropped off about 4:40: an all day experience with lots of panoramic views from the van interspersed with narration about history, nature, and local culture. We were thoroughly pleased.

Awesome tour! Recommend!

I had the best time on this tour. The tour guide Ian had a wealth of knowledge of Tasmania and I learnt so much. The rainforest walk was both beautiful and relaxing. The Tassie Devils we so cute!! And Mt Wellington felt other worldly, it was brilliant! Highly recommend!!

absolute once-in-a-lifetime experience

Book this now & do not hesitate. This trip was absolutely unforgettable. Our guide, Ian, could not have been a more perfect leader: knowledgeable, enthusiastic, personable and funny. As tourists who didn’t feel comfortable renting a car, we were grateful for the drive and views (and comfort stops with food options). You walk through the rainforest and feel like you’re in Jurassic Park, and somehow, it gets more beautiful throughout the trip. The Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary is both exotic and personal. For someone from the northern hemisphere who has only read about these creatures — laughing with kookaburras, up close with tasmanian devils, and feeding kangaroos underneath flocks of wild cockatoos — it all felt unreal. The winding road to Mt. Wellington was breathtaking. Clouds (and rainbows!) shrouded the view at the top but we saw glimpses and were given time to explore (and weather is certainly out of human control). We cannot stress this enough: take this tour (and if possible, on a Monday or Tuesday with Ian!).

Great compact day

Walks to the falls. It seemed a bit rushed going to the wildlife sanctuary, and especially Mt Wellington. Nick was good. I can’t I imagine how it would have been trying to keep a whole bus load together. There were only three of us and it went quickly. Glad I booked it.

It's a great day,...

It's a great day, spending time in natural environment. Nick, the guide was very kind. However, the estimate time stated in website is 11 hours, but in that day it's about 9 hrs. I expected to have a little bit more time for each stop, I think it's a little bit too rush.

Best day ever!!!

This was the best day ever! Been and Ian were incredible guides. We learned so much, we're active, and laughed together all day!

Wonderful day out

This tour was a great day out - our first day in Hobart. A big thanks to our tour guide Nick who was extremely knowledgeable about the area - from details on local pumped hydro to the life cycle of the local kangaroos. Pros: - small group (10pp) - great guide - points out points-of-interest along the drive - Clean van - Absolutely beautiful walks - gorgeous rainforest - Get to the sanctuary in time for the handlers to feed the animals - so you see the majority of them come out from their burrows - Awesome view from Mt Wellington Cons - not a lot of leg room in the van if you are a tall person - Need to stay with the group - it will depend who else is on your tour but ours moved quite quickly - it’s great for a trek/walk but not great if you want to constantly stop and take photos Notes - the majority of the waterfall/rainforest walk (approx 8kms) is flat and easy but there are two lots of very steep stairs at the beginning and end (the ones at the end are a little tough after walking for so long)

A great day excursion. This is a must do when visiting Sydney. The Blue Mountains won’t disappoint. Short drive from the city. In order to see the beautiful blue hue try to time it with a beautiful slightly overcast day like I did. Glass bottom skyway was an added plus. The steepest railway is truly impressive. We had a very knowledgeable driver who was very friendly

Wonderful enjoyable day

Great guide . Very informative was a really enjoyable day. Packed so much into one day. Each adventure was linked to the other however made it all so much more exciting

Great tour

A miserable wet day but we thoroughly enjoyed this tour and the falls were incredible. Very informative tour and really enjoyed the sanctuary, sadly we couldn't get to the top of Mt Wellington because the road was closed due to snow.

Not what we thought

We were under the impression we going on a short 30 minute walk through mt.field, we then hiked for 3 hours through the forest. We then had a quick pit stop at bonorong, where we were rushed to see the animals with only 35-45minutes there. The tour needs a better description of what actually occurs as this was unexpected. The tour guide made us pay $1 for masks and insisted we wore masks throughout the bus trip. The itinerary needs updating.

Great trip

An enjoyable trip with David as our guide. He was friendly, knowledgeable and experience.. Lovely walks in Mount Field. Russell Falls was beautiful. We didn't get to Lake Dobson. Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary was interesting and you get to see cute wombats, Tasmanian devils and feed kangaroos. It was misty at the summit of Mount Wellington and we missed the panoramic view of Hobart. But we did stop at a lower level for photos.

Amazing variety

3 short walks with excellent friendly guide explaining different forest vegetation as you travel up Mt Fielding.Take your warm gear for Mt Wellington- do not have to carry on the walks. Wild life park also much better than expected. Great to have someone else do the driving.

David was so great, he knew so much about the wildlife and plant life and was accomodating to the group. His stories were also super funny! Thank you for an awesome and genuine day.

Outstanding Mt Field trip and Mt Wellington tour

All about this tour seems carefully planned for a small group to enjoy the magnificent views along the way, the Mt Field flora and fauna, the care for our wildlife at Bonorong Park and the views from Mt Wellington. Our guide Nick is the best. He taught us so much about the history of the peoples who lived and worked in these areas and their legacies. Mt Wellington was also a highlight to add up to an amazing experience. Many thanks Nick!

Disappointed but happy they offered another day

This trip was cancelled due to cancellations to the covid lockdown in nsw and Victoria, it looks like a fab trip and will hopefully get to do it next time, I was offered this trip for another day but was already booked on different day trips

Wonderful tour with a great guide

This was a great day out visiting some must-see sites. Our tour guide, Jeremy, was very knowledgeable and has so much passion for the history and flora of Mt Field. All his knowledge made the visit to Mt Field 10x better than it would have been if we chose to visit by ourselves. The visit to Bonorong was educational, and we were fortunate to have a beautiful and clear day at the top of Mt Wellington, for a view that shouldn't be missed. Highly recommend this tour.

Great Guide saved the trip for us.

3/5 would probably suggest a pretty average experience but I would have actually given it a lot higher if they had gone through with the Mt Wellington section of the tour that we paid for. Through no fault of their own the roads were closed and had been for days before our tour but we were only informed of it while we were on the bus. We do feel Tours Tasmania misrepresented this and could have called/emailed ahead and given us the option to pull out or reduced fee. Mt Nelson was a poor substitute at best. That being said, our guide David was exceptional and really saved the tour for us. He was friendly, knowledgeable and loved to talk about everything in his city. We thoroughly enjoyed his company and learning from him. Overall, we feel the company did a bit of a bait and switch on us but David did manage to salvage the day to an extent. I'd recommend checking all locations are available before registering a tour with these guys.

Great day in 3 wonderful places of Tassie for nature lovers.

It was a great day. We started with Mount Field National Park, where we did some walks, saw the giant trees and some pademelons. A part of the track was closed due to fallen trees, so our guide took us to the raspberry farm (which I love!) to sort of compensate the shorter walk in the park. We then headed to the Bonorong Sanctuary where we got to see the devils, echidnas, some koalas, tawny frogmouths, amongst other animals and feed the kangaroos. After that we went to the summit of Kunanyi where we stayed for around 40 minutes because the weather was so nice, so we made the most of it. Our tour guide Nick was very nice, knew a lot about the places we visited and made the day a very enjoyable one.

Mt.Field day trip

An amazing tour with Nick. A young man who is so passionate about nature and conservation. Loved the walk at Mt Field and then onto Bonorong Wildlife Park. My first viewing of a Tasmanian Devil..a thrill. Mt Wellington was clear and sunny and we had wonderful views. Nice group. Thanks Nick

Stunning Tasmanian scenery; so worth partaking in this extraordinary day trip

The whole trip was memorable from the guided walk in the unique National Park with the tall trees and gorgeous waterfalls. Seeing the amazing help the wildlife are receiving at Bonorong and being part of contributing to their existence. Mt Wellington was stunning and cold but shouldn’t be missed. Beautiful views overlooking Hobart; it’s breathtaking. Our tour operator Dave was honestly a walking encyclopaedia; so knowledgeable and kind and considerate whilst travelling throughout the day. What an amazing day we had!

Great way to fill a day

My favourite part was walking through Mt field national park. It was so beautiful and peaceful. Our tour guide Nick was fantastic! He made us feel really welcomed and was so knowledgeable. He was more than happy to answer the million questions I had. I highly recommend this tour

Great tour and guide!!

This was a wonderful tour! Connor had so much knowledge about the sites and history for the region. The national park, wildlife park and mountain stops were awesome we he was patient in allowing plenty of time to enjoy them all. We would definitely recommend this tour to everyone!!

Awesome Day Trip from Hobart!

Our family of 3 (all adults) spent a lovely day on a small group tour. First, the tour was easy to book through Get Your Guide, and we had no problems with confirming a pick up location (which we needed to do since we stayed in an Air BnB). Our guide was awesome! I must say it’s quite a long day of driving (some not real easy) for the guide, as well as walking and commentating along the way. She did a great job. The sights were fantastic and we had enough time at each stop. We even stopped at a little raspberry farm in the morning on our way out to Mt. Field, which was a really nice touch. As tourists we sometimes miss the opportunity to visit smaller, local businesses. We definitely recommend this tour.

Great Day Trip

We had an excellent guide, Dan. He arrived on the dot at 7.10 to pick up from hotel. It was an active day for me, 18000 steps. We walked quite briskly round Lake Dobson because it had started to snow. We had lunch by the river banks. I appreciated the tour not stopping at commercial enterprises. Bonorong is an animal sanctuary and they are doing great work. Ended the day at Mt Wellington and enjoyed the great view of Hobart. This is an active tour, but not too demanding.

Legalistic Application of Refund Policy

I was booked to do the Mt Field National Park day trip with Tours Tasmania on Sunday 3 November 2019. Another tour for the Saturday with another company was then rescheduled to the Sunday so it clashed with the Mt Field tour. I then cancelled the Mt Field tour on Friday 1 November 2019 by phone about 2:45pm and by email at 2:59pm. Tours Tasmania refused to refund my tour cost because I cancelled with 41 hours notice instead of 48 hours notice, and despite also paying for a tour the previous Monday to Wineglass Bay and Freycinet. When I queried not receiving any refund and asked for a partial refund I was given a legalistic response and still no refund or partial refund. In my opinion, Tours Tasmania provided me with a poor customer experience.

our tour guide Ash went out of his way to make our tour memorable. Make sure you ask for Ash! The tour was very efficient and Ash provided excellent insights into Hobart and all of the history of the parks and towns

Wonderful day

This is an active tour. You see a lot, you do a lot, but it isn’t rushed. Nick our guide was really informative, friendly, competent. Gorgeous waterfalls and scenery on the hikes, followed by a really interesting wildlife sanctuary, and topped off by a spectacular view from atop Mt. Wellington. Highly recommend this tour.

The trip was great and our guide Nick was very helpful. As the weather was bad we could not see anything on top of Mt Wellington but at least I was happy I was there. Just before reaching the top we had a nice view of Hobart.

I just did the day tour to Mt Field National Park, Bonorong, and Mt Wellington. The trip was excellent. Connor was a great guide, full of information about the history of the areas we visited and useful tips.

Excellent tour!

We had a wonderful day on this tour. The driver Connor picked us up from our hotel in a small 13 person van. He told us lots of stories about the history of Tasmania, took us to some amazing places and made the whole day into an exciting and highly enjoyable experience. Thank you Connor!! Lovely tour!

A really enjoyable tour that takes you to many beautiful places! Small bus and small company which made it more personal. I had a lovely tour guide who knew what he was talking about and gave us a lot of information and fun facts about Tasmania, Hobart and the different places we went to. The tour was really well planned out, with enough time to enjoy every place, enough time to eat lunch and toilet breaks. Will definitely book with them again if I ever come back to Hobart!

Amazing Eco tour

I had a great day yesterday enjoying the fresh clean and crisp air of Hobart. Driver was friendly and informative while allowing us time to take in the sights. He was very knowledgeable and keen to share with us the history and importance of protecting our environment. I felt like I traveled to 3 different countries and climates bushwalking in Mt Field National Park. Unfortunately we were unable to visit Mt Wellington due to bad weather however we were taken to another mountain to enjoy the view. I highly recommend this tour to anyone wanting to appreciate and enjoy the raw and natural beauty of Hobart.
