Just wonderful!

The tour of Hearthstone was one of the best I have been on. The house is so beautiful and the Rogers who built it were so ahead of the times , walk in closets and bath off the master bedroom, and not to forget the electrification . Judi ,our tour guide was so very knowledgeable . The colors in the house are so beautiful, I want to try a couple in our historic old house as well. No wallpaper was ever used in this house. Don't miss it, it was fantastic!

Hearthstone Victorian Splendor

It's a great place to visit. I've visited many Victorian homes across the States. This is one of the best-preserved homes I've seen, and I've seen a lot of them. I've visited Hearthstone twice in the last year alone.

A special visit to Historic Hearthstone House Museum in Appleton, WI

Due to Packer traffic delays, my brother and his wife were late arriving for the tour in Appleton, Wi. Nia and other staff member were waiting for us, and we got a special tour between other tours. As we have a family heirloom donated to the collection, it meant even more to us. We were so grateful for this special visit. Thanks so much!

Hearthstone House Tour

We had the best docent ever, very knowledgeable and he had the best stories and information about the house, families, & staff. The house itself was spectacular. We were in awe of the craftsmanship. I would go again.

Great tour of a beautiful house

Very interesting and beautiful house to tour! The tour guide was very knowledgeable and gave a lot of history relevant to this house. It was absolutely beautiful and we thoroughly enjoyed our visit.

A nice day fieldtrip

It is a ery beautiful home and with all period decor, also with a lot of educational and historic significance. Fun and informative.

Beautiful but crowded

The Mansion is beautiful and kept wonderfully restored. It was a hot humid day, the group was too big for most rooms. The tour guide knew her information well, but with the size of the group we couldn't all fit in some rooms so those outside the room couldn't hear her. They shouldn't allow that many people for each tour, but could have easily split it in two groups. I'd like to return when there aren't so many people. Also with the rooms overcrowded you couldn't really appreciate all the beauty each room contained. I didn't post pictures because with so many people pictures weren't easy to take. I hope the museum director considers smaller groups for each tour for the future.

Extraordinary Tour

Our guide, George, was so passionate about the house that it was infectious! His knowledge is incredible and he is a wonderful storyteller! I couldn't recommend it more!

Extraordinary opportunity

Amazing trip back to 1882!

The Hearthstone is a magical trip back to 1882!!! It was so amazing to see and experience the rich history in each room! My docent Nia was so knowledgeable and made it such a fun visit!

A Must See!

A must see! Beautiful house with an outstanding history. Tour guides were fantastic with many stories about the house, people who lived there and the town.

Very interesting tour!!

Just really liked the person giving the Tour, she gave a lot of good information. Loved the rooms and their designs, the Wood in all the rooms. The stories about the people who lived there were interesting.

The house was beautifully decorated for Christmas and the guide was very knowledgeable and pleasant. I’d highly recommend it!

Step back in time

We were given such an amazing tour. Our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable about not only the house, but also the people that lived in and around it. It was like going back in time. The house itself is exquisite.

An Appleton "Must Do"

We learned so much on this tour. We didn't know that the first Edison system electrified home in the world was located in Appleton! This home is beautifully restored and the docents are very knowledgeable. Be sure to stop at this museum when you are in the Appleton area!!

Great museum

Extremely interesting. Guide was wonderful and very informative. A little warm in the house but not terrible. Would suggest going early.

Enlightening legacy: An illuminating home

It is not "just another house". The day to day late 19th century/early 20th century artifacts in the rooms are fascinating including - among many others - candle wick cutters, electroliers, victrolas (currently on exhibit), the original wiring, and an annunciator. The focus of the house, though, is on electricity and its implementation in Appleton; revive your historical curiosity of Edison and Tesla! The stories and history of the house as told by the excellent guides maintains your interest throughout the tour. The self-guided exhibits in the basement are extremely informative for both the electricity-illiterate and the electricity-savvy visitors, worthy of at least an hour's time to explore the concepts.

Amazing tour- fabulous staff.

Phenomenal house, phenomenal tour! This 2 hour tour was unbelievable. The house is gorgeous and nothing is roped off! Upon arrival you will put on shoe covers and will be able to enter every single room and get up close to the antiques. The docent was fantastic. He provided a wealth of information and anecdotes about the rooms and the owners. The real treat was getting a demonstration of multiple phonographs and a music box. It’s amazing how clear the sound is 120 years later! Look out for the window etching in the office! Amazing the glass is still there! And save time to explore the exhibits in the basement. This was definitely the highlight of my Wisconsin trip.

Great indoor activity for cold weather, friendly docents and volunteers

We loved learning about the house and it’s history. Since they have it decorated differently for each season, we will definitely be back. I wished there were more photos of the families in the home who lived there, but I understand that may not exist. The staff were so welcoming and friendly, answering our questions to the best of their knowledge.

The tour was absolutely fantastic. Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable and enthusiastic and the home itself is wonderful. My girlfriend and I had a marvelous time.

A must see tour

Amazing historical home to see in Appleton. Just celebrated its 140 year anniversary. Great to see the refurbishment bringing back the 1880s. Edison brought hydroelectricity to the area.

Worth Your Time

Our tour guide Judi was knowledgeable and friendly. We were brought back in time and now understand this was setting a new standard for quality of life while building a new industry and creating future jobs for decades.

Loved the mansion. My family wants to come back and see it during the Halloween and Christmas holidays. A must see for everyone.

Electricity lesson

We drove past all the time and decided to pull the trigger and check this place out. So glad we did. We did the guided tour and learned so much. We will probably be back with the rest of the kids

This is such a cool place to visit! The guide is very passionate about his work and knows a lot about the home, time period it was built, and area the house is in. The amount of effort put into keeping this house’s history alive is wonderful. I will definitely be returning!

Amazing tour and beautiful home!

The tour guide spent an hour and a half with us and was very enthusiastic about the museum and it's history. I learned a lot and appreciated the time and effort he put into our tour. Even without the history, this is a beautiful home and it's great to look at all the details and decorations. Absolutely worth the price of admission!

Wonderful “Nooks and Crannies” tour

I took the “Nooks and Crannies” tour at Hearthstone today and it was a great experience. The guide was informative and wonderful. So many interesting stories were shared about the house as well as many things they are still trying to learn about the house. The attention to detail for furnishing and decorating was excellent. I highly recommend this tour.

I am glad the house was saved

Our guide George was excellent. The tour took a little more than an hour and was amazing. George took the time to give a lot of history and answer all of our questions. This would not be good for small children as there are many expensive breakables. If you like history and can climb a few stairs this the tour for you.

Wonderful place!

We were only able to look for a short time, but it's truly impressive. It also has such a cool story. The staff was so helpful, also.

Fantastic historical experience

Above and beyond my expectations. Cheryl was an amazing guide, very knowledgeable and kind. The home is stunningly decorated for Christmas. I am here traveling for work from Louisiana and have been to many historical houses in the south. This tour & home was unlike anything I’ve seen there! The attention to detail was immaculate.

Nice place..lot of things to see..entire house is full of historical stuffs..Guide did her best to explain most of things..Tour is around 1hr but they give enough time to ask questions and explain those..Really liked that they r not in a hurry to complete the tour..one of “Must see” historical place of wisconsin..

Beautifully kept, monumental house

My husband and I stopped by for a tour, and we enjoyed learning about the house, its history, and the families who lived there. So much of the home’s design is original, and the furniture and decor is fitting for the period, if not original. The craftsmanship is breathtaking, and the money of the original family is apparent. In the basement, hands-on elements allow visitors to experience the electricity that was novel to the era. Our guide, Judy, was knowledgeable and fielded all of our questions well, replying with the context of the time and making great comparisons to life today. What a privilege to visit a place as well kept as this! Thank you to the team for preserving and sharing it so well.

Beautiful & Educational

Gorgeous home with amazing history behind it. The tour guide was fun, friendly and extremely informative answered all questions and made the tour very fun!! Highly recommend to anyone interested in history or just love beautiful homes!

Very Interesting Mansion

This mansion is beautiful. The history as the first house in the world to have dc electric is really interesting. The woodwork and architecture is so detailed. The docents give informative and fun tours. The house is decorated with period pieces. They also do special seasonal displays and tours.

Lovely Historic House

This lovely house has a lot of charm and is definitely rich in history. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and pointed out what unfamiliar items were back in that era. The woodwork and stained glass windows are gorgeous. Each room has it's own story.
