Chamonix and Mont Blanc Guided Day Trip from Geneva

Save your money!

There is no “guided” element to this tour. They provide transportation and hand you a ticket, and you’re on your own. Definitely not worth the 4x+ markup - save some money, time, and stress, and do the visit on your own. It’s very straightforward once you get there. Our “guide” told us to meet at a given time after the self-visit to Mont Blanc. What he didn’t tell us was that you’re given a timed return ticket once you’re at the top. 25% of the group received tickets for AFTER the meetup time, which meant all those people missed the remainder of the activities of no fault of their own. The tour company was horrible to work with and not accommodating at all.

Once in a lifetime experience!

What an incredible experience all around. The Gondala ride from Chominax to the top of Aiguille du Midi is Incredible. It is the highest vertical ascent cable car in the world, from 1,035 to 3,842 m. The views are breathtaking and make you realize how small we really are in the world. The place is an engineering marvel. The train ride and visit to the Glacier ice caves was also incredible experience that should not be missed. Helpful hints. The nicer and clearer the weather probably better views. Bring some warm clothes as can be cold and windy even in June. I did get a little light headed for a bit, so drink plenty of water the day before and be aware. The guide Antione (Tony) was great. Highly recommend.

Great day!

Great way to see Chamonix, Mont Blanc and the Ice Caves. Antoine was a great guide and the ride was comfortable. I would recommend this operator.

Great Tour!

This was an amazing day tour! We had adequate time in Chamonix as well as at Mont Blanc. We had great weather and the views at Mont Blanc were spectacular! Our guide was also fabulous and spoke great English. I would highly recommend this tour!

Enjoyable Experience

What an excellent experience! Enjoyed the gondola ride to the top and the “glass box”. It was a very busy day so there were lines everywhere. The train ride was fine but we felt the ice cave was underwhelming. Enjoyed walking around in Chamonix.

Viagem a chamonix

Very good trip, unfortunately we weren't able to make the most of it due to the weather, I'm looking here at Viator for how I can request a cable car ticket refound but I can't find it. Be careful when choosing the day, it's not the company's fault that the weather forecast is bad and the tour has to go the same way. So we have to understand

Definitely a must!

Even though the day was cloudy, you can still appreciate the magnificence of Switzerland’s beauty in its mountains, forests, glaciers, and the ice cave.

It was okay. A little disappointed

This tour would be fantastic on the right day, but unfortunately the cable cars were closed due to strong winds. I understand that's the risk we have to take with this type of tour but I was disappointed. On the coach the tour guide was really good and very knowledgeable. And he did mention that he hoped the cable cars would be open but we weren't told until we got to Chamonix that they were closed. We had to wait until 11am to find out. We did manage to do the mountain train up to Mer De Glacé which the views were amazing. It takes around 20 minutes to reach the top. Other than that, it was a full day in Chamonix and there really isn't a great deal to do there, so time dragged. Pick up time was 8.30am and we didn't arrive back to Geneva until around 6.30. I'd definitely try and go to Mount Blanc again but I'd do it in my own way, so that if the cable cars are closed, you aren't stuck there for hours. The good thing about doing it with this company though is they give you a refund for the things that are closed, unlike some companies I've read reviews for saying you don't get any type of refund. Just waiting now to get my money back, hopefully it won't take too long.

Massive disappointment!

I would not recommend taking this excursion if you value your hard earned money. The tour guide Bobbi was quite nice and personable but compared to other guides I saw during my excursion didn’t stack up. There was very little information shared during the tour about sights and it was also very hard to hear him when he spoke unfortunately. During the bus trip he mentioned a couple random things as we passed but shared little to no detail about them . Then when we got to Chamonix I assumed we would go up and explore, have a little free time and then meetup with the group guide again to check off the next item and have him along to share information and keep everyone together. It was nothing like that. He initially gathered the group to get us past the line for the cable car to Mont Blanc, went up and hung around for a bit and let tour members do whatever they wanted. Then he disappeared and everyone from the group scattered and had to find things to do on their own for the remainder of the day. There was zero actual guiding or information shared. Considering the cost of the trip and the fact that the train wasn’t operational it was a MASSIVE waste of money. I could have simply bought tickets for the cable car Independently and arranged transportation to Chamonix for cheaper. I was under the impression based on the tour page that this was a guided tour and would be well organized and make it a memorable experience. No such luck. Avoid this tour like the plague.

Doesn’t get any better!!!

Yes, the views, knowledge, and weather were fantastic. However, the guide was the best ever. Spoke crisp clean English, his knowledge was outstanding, his experience incredible, humor fantastic, smiling, he was friendly, helpful and cared about all of us. He is tall guy so he kept track of us and was easy to spot. I trained many people in real estate for over 40 years, his talent is out of this world. Someone needs to hire him to an executive position ASAP —- he’s loaded to the gills with talent. He’s a winner! Call today, he will make you rich.

Amazing experience that you have to try once in a lifetime

One of the most memorable trips of my life. The mountain, the view, everything was spot on. The guide is very experienced and friendly. He always take good cares of everyone’s wellbeing throughout the trip.

Truly amazing tour

Absolutely amazing tour with Viator. The experience will give us ever lasting memories. Truly, knowledgeable, friendly tour guide, made such a difference. Highly recommend using them, if you want to cramp in as many things to do as possible in only a few days.

Expensive bus

As per review below cable car and train were out of action due to bad weather, so we were left in Chamomix for the whole day, luckily I caught an early bus back but many others didn’t. Paid £200 got £100 refunded back, so paid £100 for a return bus journey.

Fraud

We had booked the trip to Chamonix and Mont Blanc including the cable chair and the train to the Mer de glace, we were 79 people on the bus. When we were on the way up to Chamonix they told us that the day before they couldn’t go to Mont Blanc due to the strong wind and they thought today would be the same. When we arrived to Chamonix, obviously, the cable chair, and therefore the Mont Blanc, was closed. We stayed in a small town like Chamonix from 9:30 to 16:30, with nothing more than a 15minute tour. They don’t say anything about the possibility of more than half of the trip being cancelled until you are on they way to Chamonix so they can charge you the tour and give you a partial refund, the price of the cable chair and the train. When we talked to the guide he said that buses must leave, otherwise they would have to refund the whole trip, as he said, when talking to the manager of the office she told us they couldn’t give a total refund because we had used the bus and the guide. They charge you for something otherwise you wouldn’t take. Be aware of the possibility of your trip being cancelled. They totally ruined our day.

Excellent cable car trip. Unfortunately the Glacier Train was cancelled due to the weather. Coach journey was very smooth and our guide most helpful and knowledgeable.

Breath taking ...

One, if not the best, experience when visiting Geneva ... hope to this with my wife again =) Tour guide very friendly and experienced, the duration of the tour was perfect. We did have weather on our side, no rain or snow, but do remember to bring good winter clothing.

Chamonix, Mont Blanc and Ice Cave

Ride up to the top of the Mont Blanc mountain was fantastic. Day was nicely managed and highly recommended that you purchase all three options for this tour. It balances time and while it is a longer day you will be very satisfied. The guides were very nice and kept groups informed and together

Not worth the money as attractions can be cancelled on arrival due to weather conditions.

Unfortunately due to the weather conditions on the day of our trip the cable car ride to Mont Blanc (with glass vantage point), train ride to ice caves were all cancelled. However, we were not aware of this until we arrived at Chamonix so spent alot of time waiting to see if the cable car ride and train would go ahead. I understand that the tour has no control over the weather however, we were advised if we did not use any of our tickets (for other cable car) we would be entitled to a full refund. On the bus journey back we were then advised that we would only be refunded for the tickets not used and would still be charged for the bus journey (approx 1 hr each way). This turned out to be the most expensive bus journey ever as we were only refunded £90 out of the total £290. Therefore, the bus journey cost £200 ! My advice would be to get a bus to Chamonix at a fraction of the price and then pay for each of the attractions weather permitting instead. This would cost a lot less than the expense of this trip.

The tour above the clouds

This experience takes you to 15,000 feet above the clouds at the peak of Mont Blanc. Even though it was cloudy the view was absolutely amazing.

The views were breathtaking! The guide was super helpful. It was CRAZY busy at the glacier and we had to wait 1.5 hr for the train back (only nice day that week so extra skiers, new gondola so extra visitors, unique confluence of events), and our guide waited for the last 8 of us to get back to town and made sure we were safe on the later bus the company has! It is chilly on the top of the mountain to see Mont Blanc, so do come weather prepared!

Great tour, clean bus and coordination for events. Be sure to purchase all events for Mont Blanc and the glacier. Well worth the extra.

This experience was amazing!

This experience was amazing. They made it so simple and easy from getting on the bus for the day to getting off the bus to go home that evening. Chris was a wonderful guide! He was very knowledgeable and friendly. The mountains were beautiful and would definitely recommend this tour!

If only.

This would have been a 5 as we enjoyed our trip yesterday though nature did not go well with us as it presented strong winds and rain which dis not allow us to go to the expected cable car ride to the glass box on top of the mountain. However, the lady who guided us to the bus yesterday was a bit rude. I was just clarifying my ticket with her and she responded unpleasantly; not expected of a tour staff. One should be prudent and pleasant when asked with questions, not pathetic and rude. This would ruin the whole journey of a tourist. She should try to be approachable and kind when asnwering to queries. The bus driver and the guide have been quite well-mannered and welcoming.

Amazing Experience-Just book it

The trip was very well organised. The guide was great, enjoyed his humour. We were lucky with the weather so we managed to see everything on the itinerary and I cannot describe what a great trip this was! Totally recommend it. Book it and you won’t be dissappinted.

Marvellous experience

Excellent trip. Very organised team especially the tour guide ( I think his name is Bobbie). Had a great fun with family especially the cable car ride and train ride. No rush and plenty of time for enjoying at each location. Worth of every single penny. To be honest, I was completely confused and upset with previous reviews by others before the trip but total opposite. So lucky, nothing are closed.

Great, but could have been better

The trip was great. Bus ride was easy and train ride up the mountain was fun. But they didn’t tell us ahead of time that both the cable cars and the glacier were closed. So we had over 4 hours to kill in Chamonix and just ended up walking back and forth down the same street. They should have given us other options or the chance to leave early.

Great time

1. Experience is amazing. Guides were great. We had the all inclusive tickets. We went early at 830. Please be prepared to walk .food in the area was reasonably priced. 1 minor issue glacier walk through is closed until next year . Company could put that on website. You do get to rode the train up and great sightseeing and photos. 1 major issue is when the busses are full and customers.have concerns about getting back. We enjoyed it and 2nd time using viator 1x in cancun and this one .enjoyed

Beautiful views, disappointing tour

Not usually one to write reviews, but this was truly abysmal. There was a complete lack of coordination. Any form of briefing was laced with sarcasm and a threat of being left behind if one did not make the cutoff time. Meeting times were then pushed back with little to no warning, after the fact. If you enjoy being in queues without real explanation, being shoved around and disappointed, this might be the tour for you. Only saving grace was the warmth of the bus, even then, it was a struggle each time we boarded to even get a seat.

Absolutely 💯 amazing

Absolutely well worth the experience. My daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The guide was amazing and very informative and very helpful. I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone.

Disappointing Tour

Please check carefully before you book this tour. We paid almost £280. Only to be told that the cable car was out of season and the glasier had been shut for a while. This apparently had been the situation for a while and was not weather dependent.. Had we known this was the case, we would never have booked the tour and instead made our own way there. The guide was knowledgeable and Mont Blanc stunning. We travelled to the peak by train and had a five minute guided tour of Chamonix However there were other tours offering the same for almost half the price.

False advertising as to what was included in the trip.

Do not book this trip. The trip is way overpriced we paid £278 for 2 Adults and all it included was the bus journey and the red train. When k booked the description said that it included cable car and glass viewing point etc. the cable car was closed so I was advised I should receive a partial refund, however when I asked for the refund I was told I never had the cable car included! This is a lie as I have screen shots of the itinerary from when I booked showing me everything that was included .The tour guide was rude and did not want to help me- I reached out to them to help me With a refund but they did not want to know. Chamonix was amazing and the red train up the mountain was great- but you can book this yourself for 38 euros when you get there- so save your money and do not book with key tours they will rip your eyes out and don’t want to help you.

Good Experience

Anthony was very informative and it was a great experience. We had plenty of time to walk around and do things on our own in the stops. I would say it was excellent except that Aiguille du Midi was closed and the weather did not provide the best visibility for Mont Blanc; of course both have nothing to do with Viator.

Likely Better Not in the Middle of Winter

Clearly a popular tour with a full bus of 45+ people. Special mention to the tour guide, who lives in Chamonix, Chris (hope got the name correctly), added local color of the area, glaciers etc; and was clear in providing directions on tour logistics. Since the Aiguille du Midi cable car is in maintenance, and ice caves also not available, 4 or close to 4 hours were available for Chamonix, which is more time than necessary for the small town, on a Sunday. Of course, one could claim travelers can opt for spending more time on Mer de Glacé, but again, there isn’t much to linger more than an hour at most, and reduce the Chamonix time. Callout here is the tour operator could have made it clear and adjust the tour duration when it knows in advance the cable car and ice caves aren’t available. Of course there are enough disclaimers to ensure travelers all are informed, but even without speaking of partial refunds, time wasn’t effectively spent. Some travelers made the wise choice to just prepay for the transportation alone, and held off until tour guide asks for optional upgrades; from a money perspective, that seems to be a wise approach to take. Of course, it doesn’t help spending more time than necessary in Chamonix.

Tour guide, Anthony was informative. Mont Blanc was my favourite, the city tour was Great also. Unfortunately, cable car was closed for maintenance.

Less Than Expected

The experience was fantastic for what we actually got to do. We had great weather and the scenery was beautiful. However, it was supposed to have included 3 things that we were not able to do. Things are closed in November and the company we went with told Viator ahead of time, but the price charged was the same. Our tour guide said we would be refunded 97.00 per person. Have not received any information regarding this yet.

Bait and switch?

The cable car and train are both closed every November for a month for routine maintenance. But they still book tours during those same weeks as if they are open and running, While they substituted another cable car and a short hike, it was NOT the tour I booked. And it then left us with 2 1/2 hours to tour Chamonix and eat lunch was excessive and meant to kill the time which was otherwise meant for the tour I wanted. The Alps are magnificent, but this tour was not I expected.

Over-charged for a very long day!

Seeing Mont Blanc from Aguille de Midi is an amazing experience! The cable car ride is exciting, the scenery is gorgeous, and viewing options are impressive. This trip, however, is little more than a bus ride and your entrance fee. Also, Mer de Glacé and the ice cave were closed, and no refund for those parts of the trip was issued. (NOTE: the ice cave is ALWAYS closed in October so that should not have even been offered.) On top of that, being primarily a bus ticket, we waited an extra 30 minutes before leaving Chamonix for new passengers to board for the trip to Geneva. There are probably better and less expensive ways to see Mont Blanc.

great day out

Lovely place great views, the mountain is incredible. The town is also lovely and worth a visit. Overall it was a lovely day out

False advertising

I have a problem with a tour description that includes an itinerary to a gondola to view points and train rides when all of it was closed for maintenance for months. You can’t advertise an itinerary that does not exist! The alternative itinerary was ok but this is false advertising and bad practice! The town of Chamonix was lovely and our tour guide was the best, but stop advertising an itinerary if it is not true!

Extreme disappointment

We were supposed to take the lift to Mt Blanc and the train also and when we were on the bus they told us that it was closed due to renovations so they substituted with another much lower lift, no train, no caves. They took us to a much lower lift, to a lake that looked more like a pond and then got a $35 pp refund of a $180 pp price. The bus driver was the only person that took us back in the over an hour trip! We will look for other companies in our future travel, this was a total disappointment and nobody seemed to care

Breathtaking

This tour guide was well organized, efficient, funny, and he offered us multiple alternative options when certain aspects of the trip were not available due to weather conditions. It was a breathtaking experience at Chamonix and Mont Blanc. So many pictures!! And the ride there and back on the bus from Geneva was comfortable. Highly recommend!!
