Fantastic dives with Azul diving center

I had two amazing dives with Azul Diving Center in Madeira. Our guide, Roberto, was professional, friendly, and highly knowledgeable, making the experience both safe and exciting. The boat captain, Vlad, was skilled and helpful, ensuring smooth entries and exits. We saw barracudas, groupers, and stunning underwater landscapes with volcanic rock formations and tunnels. The whole experience was well-organized. Highly recommend Azul Diving Center for unforgettable dives!

Amazing dive in alongside a brilliant and attentive instructor.

Had a brilliant dive at the wreck of Afonso, and would highly recommend. Roberto (our instructor) maximised our dive within the conditions we had and honestly think we explored the whole wreck in one dive. Adding to this my go pro unfortunately would and transfer the vids to my phone. Roberto kindly spent his time after diving making sure I got them through using his IT knowledge.

I had a great time, it was my first time scuba diving so I wasn’t sure what to expect but the instructor was very patient and very helpful with learning what we needed before heading to sea. I had an amazing experience and thoroughly recommend to anyone thinking about trying!

I can strongly recommend Azul Diving Center. Located centrally, friendly staff. Best dive was the wreck dive, approx. 25 mins by boat. Very good visibility, lots of trumpet fishes, funny box fishes (puffer fishes?) and a very odd couple: grouper & trumpet fish, who patrol the wreck side to side. My dives were with two brazilian instructors, who are friendly and provide good explanations of the dive plan. Go for it!

Very nice dive experience at Madeira with azul diving team

We did the shore dive first, some days later the wreck dive, night dive and the double dive in the marina resort. Every time the dives were very good. We saw many fishes, lobster etc. The highlight was the monk seal and the octopusses playing with golf balls. The whole team was really great. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. We had a lot of fun and felt very safe well looked after.

Colorfull and fun dive

It was our first time diving and we had a great time! Theo took the time to help us with the equipment and told us everything we needed to know before the dive. In the water he showed us different fish and sealife. We would definitely recommend this!

Solo Scuba Dive to the Wreck Corveta Afonso Cerqueira at Funchal Madeira

As a relatively new advanced open water scuba diver, the guys at Azul were very supportive, specially as was a single diver, with a fantastic dive to the Wreck Corveta. They have some great kit and hired a full wetsuit, bcd, air and weights. I had my own mask, snorkel, fins and dive computer. We were in a nice small party of 6 and only a short boat trip to the dive site, past the cruise ships docked at Madeira. It was my first time to fully enter and traverse through a wreck and was a little apprehensive with it being the first time. But the guys explained each step of the dive, through the three deck levels. Possibly with it being my first full wreck exploration, I should have relaxed more and didn’t quite get my neutral balance quite correct for all the openings etc. Still learning scuba skills. Probably with this, I didnt quite make the 3rd deck bridge with my breathing, but with more experience, there’s always next time. The Azul guys were fantastic and made the dive feel like completing with friends as a team, which was nice as I was diving solo. Thanks for an amazing experience!

Fantastic experience

Great few days. The wreck dive corvette alfonso was fantastic. Dived on a reef as well. Managed some deep dives although I think there are options for shallower dives if you want. Guides were really attentive and safe

Wonderful team, great dive!

My sister and I did a shore dive with Esmeralda and Roberto on 9th October and could not have had a better time. This was our first dive post qualification and both instructors were brilliant, made us feel so at ease and helped ensure we had a wonderful time. Highly recommend, and thank you!! Gill & Jenni

Great but hidden costs for footage

Really loved this experience! The female instructor was amazing with my daughter who was panicking. I did not think she would enter the sea but she did! Take Note that cameras/go pros are not allowed (for beginners due to safety) and footage is taken by them…. This will cost you 20 euros each to get so a hidden additional expense for an already expensive excursion. My son was unable to dive as having issues with his ears. I think more time could have been spent helping him but it was simply no! The male instructor was not as patient as the female one. Given he was unable to dive and we had payed for him, I thought some discount would be offered etc but no. But overall the experience was very good. We were a single family group so we had a short time in the pool practicing and then a good time in the sea. The instructor was pointing out hidden creatures that was good to see. Would recommend in a small group!

Amazing first time diving experience

Arrived at the diving centre and met with our diving instructor Guadalupe. She was very friendly and made sure that my partner and I were comfortable with how the diving gear worked and what hand signals we would be using as well as what to expect. After squeezing into our wetsuits we then had a practice in the swimming pool to familiarise ourselves with how to float and swim about as well as learning how to clear our masks of they filled with water (very important). Once we were both happy we then went straight over to the sea (just a quick walk from the pool to some steps) to do an ocean dive. We both weren't expecting to see anything straight away but immediately we were able to make out small schools of fish as well as crabs, starfish and even a octopus. Time flew by and the dive was sadly over, but we did get some amazing photos and videos taken by Guadalupe. Overall would highly recommend this experience and this diving centre to anyone visiting Madeira.

Try it!

Amazing time! My instructor, Sam, was incredibly kind and gentle, understanding and patient. It was first time scuba diving and he helped me to feel comfortable. I made many mistakes, but he was there for me the whole way through. He helped me correct my mistakes, as well as expressed confidence in my ability to dive well and have fun. Would definitely do this again!

Not thrilled with the dive site and dive master

The dive master did not keep the group together and then blamed us rather than take some of the responsibility. The dive site was average at best but that’s to be expected since no reefs and just schools of fish and some groupers. My low rating was due to the dive master losing 3 members of the group. We descended with a rope but two of us could not clear so we went up some to clear and then go down. By the time we got down to the bottom there was two groups intermixed. We were supposed to to follow the dive master with the white fins. Only problem is that there were three people with white fins. I followed the correct one but by then the dive master panicked and was going all over the place looking for the missing divers. She thought I was one of the missing but in actuality I was following her and used up my air racing behind her. When she finally got everyone together and finished the dive she was blaming us for the e separation rather than taking control of the group and segregating one group from the other. I tried to explain I was following and gave up since she just wanted to raise cane about the situation. Not professional!

Amazing night dive!

I went on a night dive with Esmeralda, and it was an incredible experience! We encountered two massive stingrays and a big cuttlefish, making the dive truly unforgettable. Esmeralda was an excellent guide, making sure we felt safe and comfortable while pointing out all the amazing sea life around us.

Great experience!

There's not much to say about this experience other than we thoroughly loved it! Amazing staff who were kind and helpful and it was very clear that our safety and enjoyment was at the forefront of all their thoughts. The ocean was clear and saw some beautiful sea life. The videos weren't included as our instructor took those, but the quality is great and we were more than happy to pay for them due to such a great experience. I highly recommend this if you want to try out Scuba for the first time.

We had a family first time experience with our teenagers. Loopy was just amazing at comforting us, looking after us and making our first experience one to remember and we left with so much confidence to want to dive again. Thank you for looking after us.

Excellent diving in Funchal

Esme, Guadalupe, Anthony and the team were excellent. We had our course split over two days as the water was too rough, but they were hugely accommodating and booked the open water session as soon as possible. Very calm, professional and charismatic - they all made the experience excellent and have given us the bug to go diving again! I would recommend to anyone visiting Funchal, as a great place to try Scuba or dive recreationally if more experienced. Many thanks to everyone at the Diving School!

Very friendly and qualified staff. Boat was small and a little cramped, but rental equipment was in good shape and it was a short boat ride to great dive spots. Definitely recommend!

First scuba

Couldn’t have had a better instructor for my first scuba experience. Rafa was professional, full and energy, and made us feel very safe. Ocean conditions were decent and we got a full 45 minutes of diving done in open water.

Great day of diving with Azul

Great day of diving with Azul Diving in Funchal. I did 2 dives to Garajau in the AM and the Afonso Cerqueira wreck in the PM, all with Rafa and Vlad. From check in to gear rental to the dive briefings, everything was top notch. The marine reserve has more fish than I anticipated, and highlights included the grouper and a sting ray; the wreck was incredible and even as an OWD certified diver you can go inside (there are a lot of openings to get in/out easily). Definitely recommend Azul for your Madeira dive shop.

Good intro to diving

First time scuba diving and felt very comfortable with the experience thanks to the instructor Scotch. He made us feel very comfortable and confident. Would recommend to anyone who has never gone scuba diving before

Beautiful UW world of Madeira

The booking process was easy, ahead of arriving into Madeira. The dive centre was a 10min walking from Savoy Palace. The team was very friendly and helpful. Boat dives to the nature reserve and Alfonso shipwreck. Lots of marine life to see and enjoy. Remember, this is the Atlantic Ocean, a 7.5mm semi dry wetsuit + hood should suffice or drysuit (if you’ve done the dry suit course). Special thanks to Cecil (owner) and Anna with all the admin stuff and help.

Great diving experience

Great experience and our guide Samuele was very helpful. I had never been diving before but with his help I learned the basics quickly and it was totally worth it! I would like to do some more diving again soon.

4 Great days

We had a very good time with Azul Diving overall!! The first impact was a bit rough on a Monday morning but I guess it happens. The team is great, funny and patient, they all worked very hard to give us the best experience and accommodate our needs during our 4 days with them. They have equipment for many sizes so no need to worry if you haven't got your own. Great experience on the wreck dive, also we loved Garajau Arena. Thank you Azul Diving for a great time.

AMAZING EXPERIENCE

Such a great diving center. I have been diving a lot in the world but this place is special. First, the staff is amazing, super nice and easy going. Second, they prepare all your equipment on the boat, you just have to enjoy. Third, their equipment is new and they even include a computer on the equipment (I always had to pay an extra everywhere else). Fourth, the dive sites are AMAZING 😍😍😍.And fifth, I saw a turtle, my dream ❤️

Great diving!

I had two awesome dives yesterday. Azul Diving is a very professionally run dive shop. My guide Scotch was very safety minded and checked on us throughout the dives. We had a large grouper swimming with us which was amazing! I highly recommend this company!

Another excellent dive

Yet another excellent dive with Azul. I only had time for one dive on the Corveta wreck but it never fails to please. All their gear is good quality though I prefer to bring my own mask and regs. The dive allows for a variety of experience levels and safe penetration if you want. I first dived it two weeks after it sank. Interesting to see how it’s corroding away in that time. You get time for a complete circuit of the wreck, Rafa taking a couple of us for another as we had air left. Always a pleasant dive here. We’ll organised and genuinely helpful and friendly staff. 20m+ vis and 19c OK for a 45 min dive in a 5mm. Thoroughly recommended.

Diving in the Marine reserve

Made 2 dives to Garajua National marine reserve. service was very good. Van took us from dive centre to the port, then boat to the reserve. BCD, & tanks were loaded on the boat by the crew, which was helpful, although I generally prefer to set up my own equipment because I'm the one who knows how I prefer the trim, tank height. Were interesting dives, large grouper, super friendly that followed me very closely for 50 metres. As fishing is prohibited here I thought that there maybe more abundant marine life, but that was not the case today. However the sea bream were bigger than most I'd seen on previous dives. We also made "swim-thru" in tunnel, and cave with funnel at end. However at this time of year the ocean is a bit chilly and I got very cold on second dive, a 7mm wet suit would have helped, 5 mm is ok for summer and autumn. I have my own 3mm ice vest which I wore, and was still cold which takes away the fun, plus I used 60 bar in last 5 mins, and had to ascend early.

Great experience

Highly recommended. It was my first exposure to diving and I loved every minute of it. Scoty was extremely knowledgeable and supportive. I got absolutely obsessed with marine life. Defo coming back. Thanks again.

Excellent introduction to scuba diving

I went with my son (16 years old) to experience scuba diving for the first time. We're good swimmers and have been snorkeling before, but not proper diving. After some paperwork, we were given detailed instructions on the equipment, techniques, communication, and how to behave in the water by Nico. All this we got to practice in a safe swimming pool. At the same time, they adjusted our equipment to make sure everything was ok before doing real diving in the ocean. Nico always made sure we were ok. Getting in the ocean was easy. Underwater, I never felt uneasy and all the techniques proved useful. Initially, you might feel a bit overwhelmed by the information, but it was easy in the ocean. Nico took very good care of my son and followed him closely. We got to see a lot of fish, starfish, crabs, and even a big tuna in the distance. It was a great experience for both of us. Big thanks to both Nico and the Azul team!

A whole new experience

Definitely a must-have if you visiting Madeira. Awesome instructor, that teaches about everything, then helps you practice and aids in the sea if needed. Breathing with mask & stuff is a completely new experience. Have seen some fish, octopus and other stuff, amazing experience!

Excellent and friendly experience.

I did two dives with Azul in early December and both were excellent. In the morning I chose to do a shore dive and in the afternoon, the F488 Corveta wreck. As I was alone, they paired me up with guide on both occasions, solo in the morning, and one other diver in the afternoon. The shore dive was great for me as I mainly dive in lakes, but I took to it well, and we did 40 minutes around the local reef, the guide being Scotty(?). In the afternoon I returned after lunch and we dived the Corveta wreck in a group of three with Nico as our guide. On both dives, the team at Azul prepared all our equipment and made sure everything ran professionally and smoothly, the whole day being hassle free. Prior to my travel to Maderia, my email queries were answered promptly, so I booked with confidence. If you're in Funchal and looking for not only an organisation, but friendly individuals to dive with, then give Azul Diving Centre a go. Nothing was too much trouble. Thank you for a great experience, and hopefully be back.

Excellent diving center

Very good diving center. They offer a good mix of dive sites (house reef, wreck and marine reserve), the dive instructors and staff are very nice and professional, and the dives are well-organized.

An amazing challenge

Azul has some incredibly kind instructors. We had decided we finally wanted to try scuba, even though we're a bit older than anyone else that day. Though my wife decided midway through she could not do the open water part, I kept going. I had some significant challenges with equalizing pressure in my ears. The instructor did not give up me I finally got it managed and got to the bottom for an amazing experience. Please note that you will be walking for a while with your tank on, and a tank of air weighs more than you would think.

Very nice dive

We had Tris as our guide and instructor. Made us feel comfortable straight away, even though the first day there was a very rough sea. We did 3 dives in 2 days, 1 wreck and 2 dives in the protected marine reserve and we loved it. He took photos of us to take home. Very nice experience
