Full day Jeep Safari to East Madeira

We thoroughly enjoyed our day. The guide was cheerful, and gave us interesting facts about the island as we drove along. I enjoyed the information he gave us regarding the trees and plants in the different locations. The stop offs were great, with enough time to take photos, as well eats and drinks. Included was a short Levada walk, with a great view point at the end. As it can be cold at the top of hills, take a warm jacket. A lovely day.

Excellent Madeira tour

Had an excellent day out, our driver Pedro was very knowledgeable and interesting. Was great seeing some of the interesting places on the island even better being able to go off road and see some amazing scenery. The time went really quickly. There was only 2 couples in a small jeep which made the day really easy going.

Great Tour - Despite the Weather....

Great experience. John our guide was extremely knowledgeable about the island, plants and events. He told us of the Christmas festivities in the centre of Funchal that evening which we went to and enjoyed immensely..Thanks John. The weather was not good but still a very enjoyable experience.

Great tour with an excellent guide

The jeep tour of Madeira's East with Safari Madeira was very enjoyable. Our guide was friendly, knowledgeable, fluent in German and English, and he kept our small group pleasantly engaged and entertained throughout. The stops were well worth visiting (although Santana, perhaps, is not all that interesting). Fantastic scenery, some adventurous roads through the forests (narrow and muddy, but not scary if you suffer from vertigo). The jeep was more comfortable than the Land Rovers that are often used for such safaris, and it safely and comfortably brought us to a waterfall hidden in a forest, as well as up and down some rural paths that a mini van would not be able to travel. In the end, it's the fantastic guide who turned a good tour into a great one. Would definitely recommend the tour and Safari Madeira to other visitors.

Great day with our South African tour guide and Norwegian guests

Fantastic day out seeing so much of the island. Our driver whose name escapes me (South African chap) was amazing. He was like a talking text book and gave us so much information. Thoroughly enjoyable and overall the east was better than the west tour, in terms of experience. We had a lovely couple from Norway too, who joined us Artu and Sylvia. Such a wonderful day and well worth it. Take a few layers, as we had different temperatures throughout the day.

Really enjoyed the trip, good company, great scenery, east of the island well worthwhile exploring. My first levada walk, and lunch (extra) was excellent value for money! The young driver, Alex, was knowledgeable but didn’t overdo it!

Best Experience on any tour

We had an absolutely fantastic experience with Silvio as our driver! From start to finish, he went above and beyond to ensure our journey was smooth, enjoyable, and informative. Silvio explained everything in great detail, answering all our questions with patience and expertise. His knowledge and passion truly elevated our trip. I had the pleasure of sitting in the front seat and got to chat with Silvio quite a bit—he’s not just a skilled driver but also a wonderful conversationalist! His stories and insights made the drive even more memorable, and his professionalism and friendliness put us completely at ease. Thanks to Silvio, we had the best time and couldn’t have asked for a better experience. If you’re lucky enough to have him as your driver, you’re in for a treat! Highly recommend!

We had a short stay in...

We had a short stay in Madeira, and choosing this tour was one of the best decisions we made to explore the eastern part of the island. Pedro, our tour guide, was not only an excellent driver but also a fantastic guide. Driving on Madeira's roads can be challenging, so having a knowledgeable local guide made the experience both enjoyable and stress-free. Pedro shared so much about the island and its culture, giving us a deeper understanding of life in Madeira. The tour schedule was well-planned, offering a perfect balance of sightseeing, off-road adventures, hiking, and even rum tasting. We thoroughly enjoyed every part of the tour and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Madeira!

Alex was an incredible guide!

I really loved this tour. Alex was an incredible guide and an amazing driver. I was really nervous about off-roading and I read the roads were nerve racking, but that was not the case with Alex! Seriously so skilled and a calming presence. Book this tour!

East safari tour

Great day out to see more of the island, fantastic views and a lot of fun on the off road part. Pedro was funny, knowledgeable and a very good driver. Would definitely recommend

The good and bad

We did this as a cruise stop, and would not recommend the full day trip as the timing getting back was tight. However, the island was amazing! The guide drove the vehicle, but shared very little info., and orientation. The jeep is old, rickety, and would have given a lesser rating if stuck in the 4 horrible seats in the back…we were lucky to sit in the front and be able to converse with the driver. The hour and half lunch stop at a selected restaurant in Santana was very poor quality.

Fantastic tour and great value for money

Second tour with this company and once again superb. Great locations to visit, very helpful host and driver. Would recommend to anyone.

East coast

We spent the most enjoyable day with Rodreguis (spelling), took us to all the promised sights, off roading. He picked the place for our lunch and preordered for us, so it would be ready when we got there. He answered all the questions from the 7 of us on the tour. Only, one thing - if you book with other people in your group be sure to mention that you want to be together in the same tour. And if you are in the back of the jeep it can be hard to hear the driver/guide. Just a couple minor things, but all in all it was a great excursion. Would do it again

Great way to see lots of the island in a day. Guide was friendly and informative (I think his name is Rodrigo). The hike was a highlight. Cold and windy at the top of the mountain (bring a warm jacket) —and above the clouds so not much view. I could have skipped the stop at the rum factory — took too much time. Everyone was ready to get going after a quick walk through the factory and the tasting— but we stood around for another 20 minutes or so before the guide suggested we get going. be aware that the four people who sit in the back are in pretty tight quarters. We saw lots of different companies doing a similar tour – – but I was glad I booked with Safari Maderia. Good tour at a reasonable cost.

Terrific Experience-Highly Recommend

Our driver was terrific. Not only being an exceptional driver, he was very detail oriented, very, very clear in his language, and speaking to older adults, and gave excellent advice at each of our stops. Highly recommend.

My number 1 recommendation for Madeira

This tour was awesome! So many things to see and do along the way. Our driver was really knowledgeable about the island, the 4x4 is an amazing way to see parts of the island you can't see in and coach. It is my number 1 recommendation for those going to Madeira. The short levada walk is a nice experience for those not wanting to do a longer or harder hike too.

A toast to the most beautiful views of Madeira!

Getting out of the city and into the breathtaking country side was like being able to breath again. An interesting variety of experiences all in 1 day. Worth it over and over. Pedro was attentive and caring. Loved it.

Awesome Tour

Pedro provided an awesome tour of the eastern part of Madeira. Felt safe in his driving and he took us to spectacular parts of the island. Really enjoyed lunch with the group at a cute spot in Santana. Definitely would recommend this tour.

If you're looking for a way to see the beautiful parts of Madeira and don't want to drive then look no further! Safari Madeira is an excellent choice. Myself and a friend booked the full day tour for the East tour of the Island. A convenient pick up at our hotel, we where greeted with our driver Miguel, who absolutely made the trip! He was so knowledgeable, friendly, chatty and very funny...he made us laugh the whole day! The starting point was Pico Ariero where we got to take in the breathtaking views of the lushess green mountains, we then headed through jungle like forestry, and the ride was a thrill experience. With a few pitstops at some beautiful locations, a perfect amount of time at each location, we could not stop taking photos! We were delighted with our final destination of the day being Ponta da são Lorenqo, it had the most unbelievable 360 views across the beautiful island, stunning cliff edges and vibrant blue waters down below. This Safari Tour is 100% worth the money! You won't regret it!

Brilliant trip

Victor our guide was fantastic & made this trip great.Saw such beautiful places. We had a lovely meal of scabbard fish , veg, rice & a pudding & lovely wine.There was a choice of beef , chicken or vegetarian & only cost 19 euros

Madeira Magic

Silvio our Guide was amazing. Arrived on time to pick us up, friendly and chatty! Great knowledge of everywhere we visited and was so accommodating to our group. Honestly had the best day and saw places we wouldn't have normally seen (especially as we didn't hire a car on this trip). Today was the highlight of our stay in Madeira and will definitely book another Safari on our next visit to the island.

Breathtaking. Stunning. Fabulous

Fabulous day. Covered East Madeira with it's stunning landscapes, forests and views. Breathtaking scenery. Our driver John was brilliant and made the day enjoyable! He was full on information, history, knowledge and talked about a variety of topics that gave us a great feel/insight in the wonderful Madeira. An additional bonus - he was safe driver. A really brilliant itinerary. Highly recommended and book with John!

Try another company

Trip was too rushed as we did too many stops to see yet another “unique” tree/plant or bananas instead of spending more time on viewpoints. Driven was mostly speaking with single person instead of the whole group.

Not your ordinary day tour

Fabulous tour of off the beaten path Madeira. Our guide, John, was knowledgeable and engaging and expertly handled the winding roads. Beautiful scenery and good food.

Best tour in Madeira!

WOW!! If you do anything in Madeira, do this… perfect for all ages!! Silvio was incredible, so friendly and told us so much about the island. We had a lovely group and the whole day was great vibes and we all loved every single moment. We felt the tour covered everything we wanted to see in that area of the island, so it’s a fabulous way to see everything with Silvio’s expertise which made it 10x better. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

A tour with Pedro

We did the jeep tour on 13 september 2024 with guide Pedro, we had an amazing day even though the weather was rainy and cloudy. The guide Pedro was really funny and really told interesting facts about the Island which made us forget about the bad weather, he took us to a local restaurant which served great food. Due the bad weather and less visibility in certain viewpoints Pedro adjusted our route to make it better

Superb Day Out

Superb full day out with John. Excellent information all the way along our route. Vehicle was excellent, especially off road Great driving from John. An extra stop at the waterfall was a real treat. I'd highly recommend this tour and would definitely come back and do the north West tour

Ernesto was great and very knowledgeable.

He was able to take us to all the parts of the eastern part of the island that we wanted to visit and he was very knowledgeable and a great tour guide.

A Grand Day Out

We had a fantastic day with John. He was very friendly, knowledgeable and fun to be around. As well as a great trip we stopped for a lovely lunch in Santana. It was so much easier having an experienced driver to navigate the roads. It meant we arrived at every destination stress free. Wish we had done it earlier in our trip.

East Coast sightseeing

Great experience! Would recommend this tour. Some of the roads were a bit nerve racking on the side of the mountains but our driver Victor was a pro at navigating through .

Brilliant and worth every penny. Not just the tour and the amazing views, but John the driver was excellent. Very informative, a good laugh, and nothing was too much trouble, a really nice guy. In future when we go back will ensure that we book another one with him.

Fun and rum!

Excellent day of adventure and discovery, the driver (unfortunately cannot remember his name) was excellent, knowledgable, clearly loving his island and the beautiful places within it. His driving was thrilling and professional and we felt in great hands while we were going off road. It was thrilling and lots of fun. We 100% recommend this full day of sightseeing and off road jeeping.

Every penny worth! Great time, great driver, great island.

Manuel was a good driver full of energy and good laughter. Although the Jeep is a bit small to sit comfortably it does not bother anyone. Lots of time to walk, enjoy company and great views. Relaxed lunch at Santana with free choice of restaurant. Enough time (1.5 hr) for lunch and small walk. We returned 17:15 at the hotel, the trip tool a bit longer but it was worth it. Not to forget the visit to the small but interesting rhum factory. Manuel made a trip to remember!

Great Experience

Our tour guide was friendly but not very talkative. He was more of a taxi driver. He brought us to many great areas. This was the only full day tour that did not include a paid lunch. Regardless, I would definitely do this tour again.

Awsome way to see a lot of the Island in one day and travel roads, you would never travel with your rental car.

I can highly recommend the Jeep Safari. My mum (57) and me (37) went for the West and (after the first tour was so amazing) for the West-Tour. By chance we had the same drive on both days and he was just awsome. The trip was awsone, the offroad-parts were most-awsome. I highly recommend to sit in the back of the car, but if you have any health issues, you can also ask to be seated in the front part, which is, according to my mum, more comfortable. Just add your wish when you book your trip. Really an awsome way to see a lot of the Island in one day and travel roads, you would most likely never travel with your rental car. One last piece of advice: Take a jacket (windbreaker if possible) with you. Its cold up in the mountains, evens if its 30°C+ at your hotel. Wish you all a lot of fun with your Jeep Tours :-). Excellent tour!

We had previously done a west tour by minibus, but the jeep was more fun as it took us off-road for some of the trip. Our driver and guide Miguel was extremely knowledgable and great fun. We stopped at five spots, combining jaw-dropping views with some local interests. The trip was good value for money and we can heartily recommend it!

Amazing day in the nature

We went the 5 of us, 3 kids of 2, 12 and 16 years old, and both parents. The 4x4 car was exclusive for us 5, and Joao, the driver, help us to enjoy the all journey and make the day very special. Joao explain us a lot of information of the island and madeiras culture. The 4x4 experience was amazing, conecting with the nature and standying up on the car!!incredible!! I really recomend the all day tour in the centre and west of the island. Stuning views every stop we make. Would repeted again and will recomend to family and friends. Thank you Joao!!

Amazing day!

It a great tour! We visited all the gorgeous places on the east side of the island and our guide Miguel was a wonderful guide! The tour is also very kid friendly, since there are short stops and plenty of time to rest if needed. 10/10 recommend!

Solo travel is not so bad.

Great day out in east of Madeira

Had a great day out and Tyrese our driver very knowledgeable and a very pleasant guy, I would like to add, that although Tyrese was driving and talking, and we were sitting in the back of the Jeep, I personally found it difficult to hear him, I would think that nowadays with our technology small speakers or sockets for earphones could be installed at back of jeep to overcome this problem, well for me especially

Up high and down low - a great Madeira experience

5 of us on this all day adventure. We went up 1800 metres, above cloud cover to glorious blue skies. Stopped many times for photos. Our guide, Miguel, is an excellent driver which is just as well with some of the bends. He took us “off-road“ through beautiful countryside to areas you could not access otherwise. We visited Santana to see their traditional cute but strange houses. Down to the sea and a sampling of Madeira produced rum. We got back in one piece, tired and happy with our day. Magic Madeira (not just a piece of cake)

Miguel was an excellent guide who took great delight showing us his driving skills on ludicrously bendy, steep and difficult roads. We went to the top of the islands which was stunning and scenic and windy, with our hats in danger of flying off. We stopped many times for photos and explanations of the terrain and its history. A good value trip and certainly we recommend Miguel to all and sundry. 🇵🇹👍
