Discover Culebra: 2-Tank Scuba Diving

cattle boat mentality, would not recommend

The short: premium trip canceled and sent with students, surly front desk person, short bottom time in shallow water, cheap junk food during surface interval. Long version: We and three other couples we didn't know booked the Culebra trip. The day before the trip we were told via email that their boat needed a repair and that they needed us to call immediately to rebook for their near shore trip or our reservations would be canceled. They were next to impossible to contact but finally did get in touch with them. We went to the docks to meet them only to be told that we had to walk back to the main office (about 10 minutes away) to sign a new form because we were on a different trip than the forms we already signed. The woman behind the counter was extremely rude. One of the other divers mentioned that she must be an owner or something because he has dove with them before and she is always that way. No employee could keep a job acting like her. The crew on the boat was pleasant, but now instead of going on a dive with all certified divers we were lumped in with students on their checkout dive. Our dive was called at 45 minutes bottom time because several people ran out of air. My wife and I still had over 2000 psi in our tanks as did a few other people. This was a shallow water dive and normally the dive masters send the people low on air up to the boat and continue with the dive. This happened on both dives. I was told that this is their policy. The snacks onboard were store bought junk food like cheap cookies and chips. I wouldn't go out with them again.

Would not recommend for student divers

My husband and I finished our dives very disappointed with the safety precautions (or lack thereof) taken by Sea Ventures. From the outset, the water was incredibly choppy, so much so that we were rerouted from Culebra to Fajardo, a call that was initially appreciated—until we discovered that this did little to improve diving conditions. I didn’t feel safe practicing many of my surface skills with the instructor due to the waves, and multiple guests became seasick (in fact a female member of the crew openly mocked a vomiting passenger instead of offering to help him) while another diver struggled with inner ear issues due to the rough conditions. I trusted that PADI certified diving instructors would prioritize our safety above all else, but didn’t have this experience with Sea Ventures. In fact, the only photo I left with was of the bruise on my thigh from the unsecured boat ladder that slammed into me during a swell. Perhaps more experienced divers aren’t bothered by these intense conditions, but as a diving student, I wouldn’t recommend—or at least would strongly advise only booking dives after extensively checking weather conditions first, as those don’t seem to be a concern for Sea Ventures.

Culebra Trip...Almost

Took this Culebra trip but ended up not making it to Culebra due to weather. As the weather, wind and waves got worse in route Capt. Jay made a great safety decision not to continue to Culebra. Instead, he took us to an alternate dive site and still got us two good dives (turtles, rays, coral, fish). Our dive master Natalia and the rest of the crew were awesome. They were attentive to every diver, professional and obviously enjoyed their jobs. The boat and equipment was clean and well maintained. Recommend you put this place on your "Dives to do list"

Check in process a pain

Check in process was very difficult. Had to park a mile a way and then take a shuttle to tour. One engine was out on the boat so we didn't go to the actual place but the dive staff was good and we ended up going to some great dive sites

CANCELLED OUR TRIP, NO REASON GIVEN

Planned and booked and paid for this vacation 90 days prior. The entire area was under no weather warnings and while I was there and the weather was great. They cancelled our dive trip two days prior and rebooked me without my permission. As I would not be in that area for the rebooking date I had no choice but to cancel altogether. I was fully refunded and I do know they have the right to cancel, but our flight tickets were bought and our AirBnb was paid for. Our vacation was spoiled because of this. They should realize that people pay alot of money to come here and things are not easily rearranged.

Amazing dive

The trip are amazing and The crew are excellent sponsors. I recommend this trip a 100%. Tha captain master Carlos, He knows the area very well and guides you

“Pro” Crew

“Pro” in their name was spot on. This was a professional organization in every way. Everyone of them pitched in to assist wherever something was being done, before there was a “need”. About this particular dive location: it’s a loooooong boat ride and choppy waters can make it quite uncomfortable for some. Not a great deal of marine life to see. Water was clear with temp of 81 degrees early April. Lots of nice coral. Depth was max of about 48 feet. Finally, I think the company missed an opportunity by not having their store open at the end of the trip. We couldn’t get our logs stamped, couldn’t buy souvenirs or anything else. Missed opportunity. Shout out to the international boat crew that took care of us.

A Couple of Nice Dives Around Culebra

Culebra is an amazing place. The trip from the marina in Fajarado out to the island was fun and interesting. There was a pretty big group of divers with several dive guides leading 6 or so divers apeice through a couple of reefs near Culebra. The reefs have been damaged by recent hurricanes, but seem to be recovering well with lots of soft corals being a primary component of the dives. Nice populations of colorful reef fish to observe on your dive. Dives were relatively shallow, 20-40 feet depth, with visibility around 40 feet for our dives. A good crew for some nice dives. I would look forward to diving with this charter around, Culebra, Vieques, or Fajardo.

When the lead too the time to take pics of me using my go pro. Usually, I film on my own. Also helped me understand causes of my using up my air quickly.

The staff was very rude and used a lot of explicit language. I don’t recommend this place to anyone with children

best on the island

Another amazing trip- crew great- reefs great- best on the island- I would recommended using this company- we were very please on both trips- Local and Culebra-

Great SCUBA diving!

The diving was was great! We saw lots of coral and other marine life. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. Highly recommend!

A great way to test deeper waters

The crew was very friendly and helpful, as well as attentive. Two of us did the discover scuba option, two snorkeled. Alvin worked the new divers, and he was excellent. Extremely safe approach. FYI, if you have had ANY surgery of ANY kind in the past 12 months, bring your doctor's medical clearance with you.

Certification Trip

Certified my two daughters for Advanced Open water. I received my Rescue diver certification. The instructors were attentive, knowledgeable, and super capable. Felt very well taken care of. Even had time for fun diving once the instruction portion was over. the Divemaster took videos that put my camera skills to shame. Then was able to share all the footage via Air Drop before reaching the dock. Great time and will come back!!!.

Best dive shop in PR!

Sea Ventures is my favorite dive shop in PR. The entire staff are skillful, professional divers. They provide great service to both experienced divers and learners. Lolo and Alvin are especially great!

Quite Possibly the Best Dive Shop in PR

I am with a dive shop from Denton, TX and brought a group of 17 divers from Texas to dive with Sea Ventures from August 24-26, 2022. This dive shop is first class. They have Newton dive boats that are quite possible the biggest and the best in Puerto Rico. The crew was great. From the shop manager: Yilmalia to the boat captains: Luis, Monica and Jorge to the instructors that were guiding us: Jose, Lola, Alvin, Sahid, Marina, Victorino to the DM candidates that were helping out everyone was great. Very laid back, fun-loving and very accommodating to our needs. These guys are there to please! They would store our gear overnight and have it on the boat in the mornings. We even worked with the captains to get back on time to eat with the group. Oh, and the marina restaurant "La Cueva Del Mar" was excellent too. If you dive with Sea Ventures check out the restaurant for sure. The group I was with enjoyed every minute of it. By the way, while there we did the Vieques, Culebra and Fajardo reef tours. We were also able to do a sunset and 2 night dioves.

A great dive experience

Everything about this dive experience - the crew (Luis, Lolo, Carlos, Jose, Capt. Jay), the boat, the gear, and the dives were all first-rate. The crew was friendly, welcoming, engaging,professional and helpful when needed. Boat and dive briefings were delivered with humor but with all the information we divers needed. A great experience from beginning to end.

Awesome! Worth a try

Awesome dive! Was my first dive since my certification and they made sure to keep an eye on me and make me feel confidenti enough to explore. We had enough time to srop by a nice beach to relax and snorkel. Fully recommend

An awesome experience

These guys were the best! It was a totally fun day -- 2 dives in the morning followed by lunch and snorkeling at a quiet reef.

2 tank dive to Culebra

We had a fantastic day diving yesterday with Sea Ventures. The entire staff were friendly, helpful and relaxed. Would highly recommend to anyone in the area who wants to dive or snorkel!

Great day at Culebra

Sea Ventures did a great job of showing us a beautiful day out to Culebra. The dive master was super helpful and allayed my anxiety before diving. He ensured I was hooked up properly and made sure I was taken care of. I loved the fun personalities of the crew! They were all so nice, personable, and really attentive. Having marine biologists and wildlife experts made a huge difference in my experience. The food at lunch was good too and boat was very nice. Excellent day out there!

Discover diving/2 tank Culebra dive.

Excellent diving trip. Brought the kids for discover diving. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. Meal was served after diving was done while anchored off shore a fairly private beach. The five masters ensured everyone was safe throughout the entire dive. We were able to see many fish, a shark and sea turtle on our dive. Highly recommend.

Great Scuba Diving in Culebra

We had a fun time diving in Culebra and were pleasantly surprised that there was additional time during our excursion for some snorkeling and walking along one the beach near the island of Culebra we had done scuba diving next to. Also lunch was very filling with plenty of food and drinks for us to enjoy after completing our dives!

Culebra with Sea Ventures

Great trip and nice diving, thanks to Luis and the crew. Very well managed dive shop and attention to covid protocols made everyone feel comfortable onboard. I would definitely dive with them again.

Picture perfect

Excellent experience with very knowledgeable divemasters. Captain was a big part of the trip providing a fun and safe atmosphere plus the dive sites were absolutely stunning! Would definitely book again!

Worst - go for other options if you have or don’t do it at all but don’t do it with them

WORST WORST WORST. Would not suggest it to anyone who would want to try scuba for the first time. Me along with my two of my friends did a 2 tank dive with them. We had checked in and I have gone to use washroom while we wait for the instructor to come and give the theory class but by the time I came back he has already started the class just before 2 mins and asked me to wait out side. I was standing for 25-30 mins and he later comes out and tells that he will find an other instructor or I would have to figure it on my own. he did tag me with other instructor for the class on the boat. The only guy who was having cool was my instructor carlo with whom I did the first dive but for the second dive he had three other people with him and was crowded. I had lost my instructor under water and had to come out. The boat captain whose name I do not know is Racist and was passing comments on Indians. He was discouraging everyone not to do the second dive and he told me while I was boarding back the boat that “I told you that you would not be able to do it. It is not for everyone” and was not even helping me get back to the boat and acted that he did not hear even though he did. F**** idiot. When my other friend was getting back to the boat he was RACIST comments on Indian. If you want to have a wonderful experience of scuba for the first time, DONT GO TO THEM.

A solid Boat a great crew and Instructor = A very happy new Open Water diver.

Selected this operation so that I could complete my open water dives to finish my certification. I was not disappointed. My dive instructor and the boat crew did a fantastic job of helping me complete my training and showing me in real time all the sea life that I had only seen on TV.

Dive with Sea Ventures!

OMG! Best experience so far. I am a new certified diver from Texas! And the staff at Sea Ventures will ensure you have a safe and amazing dive. Great post Covid trip. Safety is #1. They are all very experienced and the customer service on and off the boat is amazing. The views under water are amazing. Thank you Sea Ventures for one of my best vacations ever!

Great Adventure

This was a great experience for discovering scuba. The staff was excellent and the equipment was well maintained. The instructors were top notch, patient with beginners.

Incredible everything

Can't recommend this place highly enough. Louis was our Instructor and was insanely easy going, knowledgeable and fun to be around. I got scared at the first training dive and they stayed sooo patient with me. Can't wait to go back

Excellent! We loved it!

Must book trip

Luis, Valerie, Nelson, and Ramon we're amazing! If you are new to scuba this team is perfect. They are incredibly patient, and they deal with some of the strangest and most difficult people daily. We will definitely be back!

Best experience for a new diver

This was our first time scuba diving. Jay was an incredible instructor!! And the whole crew was friendly and professional. If it’s your first time, don’t worry the instructors are extremely attentive and will stay near you the entire time until you feel comfortable. They are very patient and experienced. The boat is specious and covered/shaded on the lower level and you can go upstairs to the sun if you want. Lots of drinks and snacks, plus a light pasta/sandwich lunch.

Excellent Culebra dive with Alvin

We had a wonderful time with Sea Ventures on the two tank dive to culebra. This is the best company I’ve dived with in Puerto Rico. They have extremely safe COVID protocols, including systematic mask use on the boats for both divers and staff, as well as easy access to hand sanitizer. Our guide Alvin shared great pictures of us with the sea life we saw on the dive and offered helpful tips to new divers. I also appreciate that Sea Ventures is a company that prioritizes coral reef repair and preservation. I highly recommend this company and especially Alvin as a guide!

Great trip to Culebra

These guys are my go-to for scuba on the East coast. They're friendly, attentive and provide a wonderful dive experience every time I travel with them. I have seen something new and different on every trip with them. They are also very attentive to covid restrictions and care. The boat is big enough to accommodate the group and mask use is enforced. You can tell that safety and a positive experience is their #1 concern. I will dive with them again.

Great Instructor and all crew

This was our first experience with diving and the crew was awesome. They made us feel comfortable and really looked out for us. Louis was super patient and an excellent instructor. Tou can tell he loved what he is doing. In fact, we can not thank the entire crew enough. Excellent experience hope to go agin.

Awesome

My family had a great experiece. My son is scuba certified; My wife, daughter and I took the padi course. We all had a great time. The instructors are very knowledgable and great teachers. Luis is a Master instructor. The whole staff was friendly and committed to make sure that we had a fun and safe experience. They obviously love what they do and are very good.

A fabulous day of Scuba

We did the full day Scuba/Snorkel tour to Culebra. We had an awesome time. The crew was fantastic. They were nice and knowledgeable. Our scuba guides were wonderful too. The water was pretty clear. You could see 30-35 feet or so. The snorkeling at Culebra after lunch was also fun. My husband and I were on a Valentine's Day trip. However, this would have been something my kids would have loved if they had been with us.

Great Operation

We thoroughly enjoyed the day on the water. Diving in Culebra was fantastic and Sea Ventures made everything easy and enjoyable.

The views were beautiful and culebra diving took many photos for us. It is worth going to Culebra and contacting Culebra Diving for snorkeling or diving excursions.
