Great Museum for Car Enthusiasts

Amazing museum if you love British cars. Spent 4+ hours going through the museum. Once. I felt like I missed a lot, but they were closing and I had to leave the next day. Bummer. They have hundreds on display and you can ever watch a restoration in progress. The volunteers are incredibly knowledgeable. I learned a lot of things I didn’t know.

Excellent museum!

Fantastic museum. Spent nearly 4 hours here so good value for money. Good range of classic cars and film/TV cars. Cafe on site; good range of refreshments. Staff & volunteers very friendly and knowledgeable. Suitable for all ages, highly recommend for a good day out.

British Motor Museum

Excellent museum but a queue to enter and rain outside. Moira the family guide was brilliant. Too much to see in a few hours with my 5 year old granddaughter. Could do with more signs or better still more friendly staff to guide us around. Food and drinks too expensive!

Massive display well done

Very informative display and well laid out. Fascinating insights into the car industry history in the UK. Great collection of well displayed cars in great condition. Brought back a few memories. Only complaint is they didn't have examples of my first cars, 1959 Ford Prefect, 1967 Ford Mk2 Cortina or a Ford Mk3 Cortina (1976 would have been good). Simply massive and 5 hrs well spent.

Family Tour with Jim was Amazing!

We had the most amazing day at the British Motor Museum today. There was so much for the kids to do. As it is half term there were colouring and painting activities. My children are too big for them but there are cars for younger children that adults could push them around in. There are cars that can't be touched as they obviously don't want to get damaged but there are several clearly signed that you can touch. There are lots of interactive stations around the museum for the kids too. We enjoyed the quiz finding the fastest cars in each section. The highlight of our visit was the free family tour conducted by Jim. We met Jim on our way in and he told us about the half term activities as well as the family tour that was due to start in about half an hour's time. On the tour Jim was dressed up as an old fashioned bus driver which made him easy to spot. He was so enthusiastic about all the exhibits and asked the kids lots of questions so they were all involved. Jim let the kids sit in an Aston Martin that they weren't supposed to touch (so don't tell anyone 😜). After the tour my daughter wanted a photo with him which he was happy to pose for and answered more of our questions and told us more interesting facts about other cars in the museum.

We were amazed by the quantity of cars and fascinated by individual car history.

After attending the MG 100th event at the museum last year we returned with a focus to take in the Main museum building and the Collection building that we failed to look around last time. We were amazed by the quantity of cars and fascinated by individual car history and found all the staff very friendly . We joined one of the free tours of the museum - our guide Joe was so knowledgeable and enthusiastic about British motoring history that it made the visit. We were lucky to visit on the 2nd Tuesday of the month so had the added bonus of seeing the very popular local car gathering in the car park that included some of the Museums cars in action.

Amazing day out

Had an amazing day here for my husbands birthday treat on the way home from a long weekend in Bristol. The displays are fabulous, lots of interactive things to do especially for children, staff are very welcoming and knowledgeable too…special mention to Clive for taking the time to chat to my husband and I. We didn’t eat while we were there but had a drink in the cafe, however the food being served looked delicious. Lovely little gift shop which was reasonably priced too ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Go when there is something else on if you only want to see the cars only.

Brilliant experience. There was a sacelextrix exhibition on, so the actual museum was really empty,which made our visit really good. There was plenty of room to walk around, see the cars. The Jaguar exhibition was also available to walk around without too many people. Also, I have a 52-year 420G that they don't have, which made me feel honoured to have something the museum didn't have. May be something to think of in the future if theu wanted it

Brilliant

We spent about 4 hours here. Excellent displays and well presented vehicles. You could easily spend a couple of days here. I didn't have time to read all the information. Seeing old cars brought back so many memories. Of particular note, the member of staff at the entrance was so welcoming, helpful and friendly and it git us off to a good start. We also enjoyed a snack lunch in the very busy cafe. The server obviously misunderstood my wife's Scottish accent as she didn't get the beans she ordered but she wasn't charged! All good. Well worth a visit.

Great museum but take your own food

A fantastic day at Gaydon. A vast number of cars to see in a spacious setting. Very interesting to see so many concept cars which never saw production. A shout out for the excellent volunteer staff particularly Anton. Regrettably the cafe was a bit of a let down with rather poor quality food and which was closed just when we needed a cup of tea! Next time we will take a picnic.

Petrolhead Heaven

Me and my family went to the British Motor Museum, and it was a great experience. As a massive petrolhead, I really enjoyed looking at all the old British Cars and learning about how they were made and why. My favourite cars from the Museum are: Jaguar CX75, McLaren 12C and Jaguar XJ13, but there a hundreds more… Other features of the museum include a cafe for a bite to eat and an accessible restoration room where cars go to get repaired before going back on show. From an Autistic perspective, the museum can get busy, especially when you first walk in, and in the cafe. However due to the vastness of the museum it is quieter than you’d expect. So I had no anxiety from a sensory point of view 10/10 highly recommend

A must for car enthusiasts

If you are interested in cars and car history, a visit to this museum is a must. For the most part, it's not a hands-on experience - no sitting in vehicles, looking under the bonnet, etc. but for an informative history experience, not to mention plenty of opportunity to have the, "I drove one of those" or "My grandad had that car" conversations with family. We went as a family; husband and wife, 17 and 14 year old children, and all enjoyed the day. The venue was welcoming, the cafe is very good value, and all the staff were friendly and helpful.

Fantastic place for a family visit

Always a great place to visit and lots to keep young children occupied as well. We had a family tour from Thomas which was a real highlight, he did a great job engaging the kids and shared really interesting facts.

History of British cars

I brought my 16 year old son to see Silverstone race museum and decided to take him to the British Motor Museum to let him see the world of cars and it was amazing to see so many cars in one place was terrific fun

A good day for car enthusiasts

I visited on the Easter bank holiday Saturday and thought it would be very busy. Parking was easy and the reception was quick, I found it a very relaxed atmosphere and was able to look at each vehicle without the feeling of being rushed. I visited the café and had a lovely sandwich and a drink. The staff are very friendly and helpful and willing to have a chat. I think it is well worth the money.

Good day out

Great place, lots to see . I went here with my partner & it was really good. Lots of cars & information. The staff were brilliant. I have mobility problems & a staff member noticed & offered me a wheelchair. They have a cafe , however its very expensive! Apart from that, its definitely worth the money

Excellent value and knowledgeable staff.

Excellent venue if you love cars.All staff are welcoming and polite and they all have a love of cars and are very knowledgeable about it seems everything ! Easy to find with plenty of free parking and if you want they have outside areas to relax and bring your own food and drink if you want to.Well recommended for petrol heads and others.

One Jaguar is just like the other 300

Far too much emphasis on Jaguar and Land Rover. Should be called the JLR heritage with a sprinkle of the rest. There were over 500 different manufacturers in the UK. Some merged to form bigger groups. Most have gone. Over the years though there were many different models, some familiar to us all and some unknown. The stories of these marques should be told. There is a small mention of the industrial action at Longbridge and a room dedicated to William Morris and Herbert Austin that’s closed, due to open in March but not open in March. Small evidence of Vauxhall and Ford but that’s more or less it. The collection room where cars are stored was much more interesting, and much busier which says it all really. Choose to represent British Motor Heritage or choose JLR but let everyone know before they go.

Reliving my youth as I have owned some of the cars on show unfortunately none of the more exotic models I did try once to buy a Lotus Europa but could only get on leg in.

Excellent museum. Plenty to see. clean and modern environment. friendly staff. Good and realistically priced food from cafe, but small selection of hot food. Downsides. Not many interactive experiences. Only one vehicle that one could sit in. Many vehicles one might expect to see were missing. [ ford escort, ford 100 series, hilman superminx, humber sceptre, humber hawk and supersnipe, austin devon....to name but a few. Overall a well priced, value for money day out...thank you.

What a treasure my son found with this! Amazing displays, easy to walk around and lovely staff. Trip down memory lane for me and my 25yo son enjoyed the engine displays and racing cars-just so much! Great, cheap cafe aswell.

British Motor Museum

A lovely mixture of vehicles from the late 19th century to present day, detailing the transformation from horse drawn stagecoach to modern day. Plenty of interesting exhibits to spark memories, and demonstrate the history of midlands motor car manufacture. Hats off to the person who designed the surfaces that displayed the vehicles on the time road - from rutted mud to ashphalt. Very clever.

Highly recommend

We visited today for the 4th or 5th time this year on an annual pass, and - as usual - got a really friendly welcome (thanks Robin!) and thoroughly enjoyed the visit. My 4.5 year old loves the car collection and we always find something new to see every time. He really enjoyed the elf search too. I feel a lot of effort is put in to welcoming little ones in to the museum, and we always find it has been 'refreshed' every time to keep it interesting. The staff are first class, very friendly and knowledgable. Sandwiches and chips in the cafe today were actually very nice quality. What else can I say, the best £14ish I spent last year and highly recommend a visit.

Great museum

Great museum. Lots of historic cars and staff were friendly and engaging. While it wasn't operating as it was a weekend, the viewing platform for the workshop was a nice touch. The poor reviews for this place are comical & entitled. Some people clearly don't understand how rare some of these cars are and the limitations of the site.

A great day out

A superb visit. Lots to see and great value. We upgraded to an annual ticket for free. It has a café upstairs and free parking. Good for all ages.

Time just runs away it's so fascinating

A really great place to learn about the development of British Motor vehicles with some really historic items in the collection. Whatever your do make full use of the free guided tours to get a very personal insight into the collection.

A Nice Surprise

This museum is spotless, interesting, and run by the kindest older gentlemen. While my boyfriend is crazy about cars, I usually have no interest. However, they have a nice variety of vehicles here and people who are excited to tell you about them and it will make you engaged. Highlights were the 100 year old double decker bus, royal parade cars, and Austin Powers' shagging wagon. Great fun!

I like older motors.

The whole visit was a pleasure, I went to check on the older series Land Rover just make sure I was putting mine together in some sort of order. I wasn't disappointed, I found a few of them. The rest was worth seeing too.

Brilliant day out!

A brilliant day out especially when it's wet and windy! I'm not specifically interested in cars but found the experience interesting and informative. I especially enjoyed the timeline of cars around the edge of the exhibition. We spent a good couple of hours here. We stopped for lunch in the cafe, the staff there were welcoming. As well as enjoying a look round the gift shop.

Fantastic Amazing day out

Have taken my children many times over the years and now take my grandson. He loves it and is so excited to go as much as possible. The staff are amazing always friendly informative and helpful. There's so much to take in and discover with the history of our motor vehicles. Our visit was made extra special by Jim he takes the time to explain all sorts of motoring history and I learn new thing myself a big thank you to Jim and all the staff that make it possible to see so much of our motoring history all in one site. I /we will look forward to our next visit and recommend a visit to anyone. Always things for the children to do actively and we can enjoy the experience too.. Everyone needs to visit The British Motor Museum in Gaydon and help to keep this important motoring history open and in our country we can't loose this very important part of our motoring history..

Enjoyable couple of hours

Well layed out museum with a good variety of British cars across two buildings. Friendly staff, who are on hand to give you more information on the cars if you want.

Amazing to see so many cars that I used to own!

A real trip down memory lane -- plus so much more! Austin A40, Vauxhall Viva HA, Ford Anglia, Austin 1100, Morris 1000 - they were all there and I owned one of each when in my late teens and early 20s. All horrible cars and mechanically hopeless most of the time but I remember them with a certain amount of affection. They represented freedom! The A40 was one of the worst with a rust hole in the floor which leaked exhaust fumes into the car constantly. It had the performance of the average sewing machine! Really great to see them all again at the BMM - and how I wish I had them all still so I could sell them now! Really wonderful place with so many vehicles to see and enjoy. Will be returning again for sure to see the other hall. My son and I only had time for the main hall on the day we visited. We bought annualised tickets for the same price as one offs. Be aware that there is a lot of walking and a lot of reading! We were both flaked out by closing time at 5pm. My favourite car....it has to be the Jensen FF. It has always fascinated me that the 4WD technology on these came from a Ferguson tractor!

Nice trip with 2-year old

We went to the museum with our 2 year old boy for his birthday. I was pleasantly surprised with the place. I definitely recommend going and have a look.

Excellent Car Museum

Brilliant Brilliant! Pre paid for tickets £14:50 per person adults, a bargin. Parking is free. Buildings are BIG, well staffed and plenty of knowledgable staff dotted around to explain in depth about the cars their history etc. Toilets for everyone dotted round. Junction 12 the up the escalator cafe is brilliant, variety and decently prices. Building 1 Lots of Vintge cars - very exciting, lots and lots of different car. A group tour is free at 11am. James Bond/JudgeDread/PenelopePitStop/Dell Troller/Back to the future and many more!! Building 2- Jaguar Section Royalty Looms. Queen Mother/The late Queen and Lady Diana cars. Old and new concept and lots more an excellent day out. You must visit if your are a car enthusiast.

An absolute Triumph......

.....and Jaguar, Morris, Mini, MG, Hillman etc etc. Great fun if you're 60-something petrolheads like we are and fancy a few hours happily wallowing in nostalgia or drooling over beautiful vintage marques. Yes there are some surprising omissions but what's there is well-curated and there's so much else to draw your attention - royal cars, prototypes / concepts, vehicles from the movies & TV. The museum building is light, bright, crisply understated, spotlessly clean and with a peaceful acoustic - a pleasant environment to wander around (although we were super-lucky to be there on a day when it wasn't busy) and get up close to the cars. Make sure to pop over to the collections building too. A very enjoyable day out (even if there wasn't a Hillman Avenger hehe), easy to reach from the motorway, a spacious free carpark, decent-enough coffee (it's push button bean2cup) and tasty cake in the cafe. If cars are even vaguely your thing, we think the museum is defo worth coming to see.

Brum brum

Cars, cars and more cars. A truly tremendous selection of really old, old, retro and movie vehicles plus some modern classics. Easy to get about but wheelchair access in some areas could prove a challenge. The vehicles are in good display condition with restoration needed on others. A good couple of hours spent walking round looking at some superb examples. All areas are clean and cafe available on site.

A must for all car nuts

Let’s face it, you are not going to go to the motor museum unless either you or someone in your family is a car nerd, in which case you are going to love it. The enthusiasm and knowledge of the volunteers really does show. The site is worthy a good half day, we went on a no event day so was not too heavily attended, I am sure when the car park is full of one particular marque it would be very different. One plus of the entrance fee is the ability to also go next door and visit the Jaguar Heritage Trust, much lower key but equally fun.

Never seen so many cars!|

If you’re a car enthusiast then this must be an absolute dream. If however you’re not … then you’ll likely be bored in less than an hour. Attended on an Aston Martin event day, with hundreds of special cars lined up in the usual carpark. Unfortunately soon after we arrived (early afternoon) it rained, meaning that many of them packed up and left so we never got to see them all. In the main museum I found the staging and display areas really well done. But it was just too humid and warm inside to be comfortable. In the other building, the area above the workshop and Jaguar display is like a warehouse with the cars crammed into every space. It was really difficult to identify each vehicle to its corresponding info sheet. I did enjoy my visit … but unlikely to return

Not What I Expected - In a Good Way !!

In a subtle move to appease the boredom of my 14 year old during the summer holidays , we went to the car museum. I am no petrol head, but even I could not fail to be impressed by the variety of cars on display , the events that were being hosted and the actual scale of the museum. Highly recommend as a family day out .

Fun day out

If you're into cars, this is the place to be. Loads of exhibits through the ages and plenty of information. There was a trail-based activity for the kids to do as they went around. The food in the café was way better than we were expecting (especially the chilli and the curry) although it's quite pricey. We thought they were missing a trick by not offering all-day breakfasts! The staff were very helpful. Only two slight downsides: the museum was far too hot, although it certainly wasn't a hot day outside. In fact the weather was a washout, which brings me to the second point - on the day we visited, there was a Saab exhibition. We knew this was on, but had expected it to be indoors. But it was some kind of international Saab club gathering and there were hundreds of cars outside the museum. Which would have been great to look around on a dry day. But this meant other visitors had to park in a different car park, because the usual one was taken up by the Saabs and a campsite for their owners. The other car park was much further away and the signage for walking back to the museum was very unclear. We naturally followed a sign that said "Museum & Exit" (instead of the one that said 'Show Entrance" because we weren't involved in the show) and ended up walking a very long way around in the rain, which was not ideal with small kids. Luckily we found a shorter way back!

Pleasant

Enjoyed the old cars, all british. Right size for me took 2 and half hours to walk round. The cafe needs more staff.
