Fantastic tour!

Brilliant experience and something different from the norm. Our tour guide was Michael who was great. His theatrics really brought the tour to life and he told us some great stories during the tour. Highly recommend.

Neave was amazing!

Neave was a very good storyteller with lots of enthusiasm and expression. She kept the tour interesting. Guinness would have been better than an IPA. Just better beer choices. Headphones were great! Loved that she said nothing for dramatic effect down the stairs. Neave was fantastic!!

Good visit to the vaults, a little hokey

I think all of the ghost tours are corny, and this was no exception, but it was an entertaining way to get into the vaults that we'd heard so much about.

Fairly hokey, but fun

All of the ghost tours into the vaults appear to be quite corney, but we enjoyed getting into the vaults that we've read so much about. Could have spent less time above ground and more in the vaults, but overall an enjoyable way to spend a few hours.

Good Stories with a Rare Look at the Edinburgh Vaults

Our guide, Mark, was a great storyteller and moved us along at a good pace. I really liked the look at the underground vaults and their accompanying stories. And the drink at the end is the perfect way to finish the tour!

Informative family fun

Linda was a great guide and storyteller. It was the right amount of historical information about the city, woven in with some creepiness! If you are a ghost believer or not, it was time well spent.

A unique and unforgettable guided tour

This guided tour was so incredibly brilliant! Our guide, Anastasia, shared tales with such charisma, talent, and knowledge that made us all dive very deep into the dark side of Edinburgh. The underground walk was honestly spooktastic and extremely satisfying for history and ghost story lovers alike. The visit concludes with a detailed exhibition room that adds some extra quality to the whole experience. Highly recommended!

Definitely book this tour!

My boyfriend and I had a wonderful time on this ghostly tour. Martin, our guide, was a great storyteller who added an air of spookiness but also comedy. We walked a bit through Edinburgh before descending into the underground vaults and hearing about the entities that still occupy the space. The whiskey at the end was nice as well. Definitely recommend doing this tour for a fun, unique evening in Edinburgh.

Family ghost tour

Took our 15 year old nephew on his first ghost tour and what better than around our own hometown of Edinburgh. Loved it from start to finish. Neave (Hope I spelled that right!) was a great guide and provided us with very insightful stories and facts about Edinburgh. Loved being down in the vaults, as spooky and unsettling as it was. All 3 of us experienced something we couldn’t explain, my partner is a total sceptic and even he was a bit puzzled by what he experienced! Would do it again and now looking to book a visit to Niddry Street vaults!

Devilishly informative tours

Informative tour both for believers and sceptics. Linda was an enthusiastic, witty and knowledgeable guide. Great opportunity to go down into the city vaults. If you are unsteady on your feet perhaps not for you in the vaults. Who knew what history we are walking above. Definitely recommend

Gripping stories, told with vigour. Fantastic experience!

This tour was extremely interesting from the offset! Every single story had me captured, from the very start at the Mercat Cross (you really get thrown straight into it, which I loved) all the way to the last story, told with your drink. Our guide was Neave and she was absolutely spectacular. That girl has such a passion and a way with words, and was 90% of the reason I was so engrossed. The vaults themselves are eerie, and the candles really helped the ambience, however my only criticism would be that we had such a large group that it really diminished the effect of the vaults on me. I really wanted to get sucked into the stories and the atmosphere but when you have someone coughing/clearing their throat/whispering amongst themselves all the time it can really take away from the experience. A group of 6-8 perhaps would've been ideal whereas we had closer to 16. Overall I thoroughly enjoyed it, I would recommend it heartily (the whisky is nice too). I only wish it was a more intimate experience, to help me feel the eeriness. Shoutout to Neave.

Not ghostly just stories of days gone by

Our guide Neave was very knowledgeable however one of the party fainted twice (due to lack of food as she mentioned she had only eaten a salad all day). Thankfully myself, my partner and another person in the group immediately assisted whilst Naeve went to advise her superiors? As a result the walking part had to be cut short. After these incidents the tour kinda went downhill and I lost interest in what was being said as did my partner. It put a downer on the experience as a whole and I won’t book another in the future ….

A brilliant tour of the Vaults and historic Edinburgh.

We went on the Merkat Tour of the Vaults, and it was amazing. Our excellent Tour guide Martin, was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. He was Brilliant, and the whole tour was Brilliant. I highly recommend you pick Martin as your tour guide, to hear about the history of the people in Edinburgh in times gone by, and to find out what happened in the vaults many, many years ago!

A Great Experience!

We booked an Evening with Ghosts & Ghouls, a two hour tour meeting at the Mercat Cross on the Royal Mile. Our guide, Neave (hope my spelling is okay!) was so friendly and entertaining - a great story teller. The tour was informative and fun, and of course spooky! Starting above ground with tales of life in old Edinburgh (some ghostly) before heading down to the vaults; more stories, very atmospheric and interesting! Finishing with a choice of drink in a cosy candlelit cellar, the perfect setting for more tales to end the evening. Both myself and my children (18 & 23) had a great time. Highly recommended!

Best ghost tour I’ve ever been on.

This was a really entertaining and engaging tour and our guide Mark was fantastic. He made the experience both funny and informative, his knowledge and storytelling style made it very enjoyable. The vaults were a great enhancement on some similar tours that I’ve been on and gave the whole thing a different dimension. Meggets cellar was a great atmospheric space to enjoy a drink and continue the storytelling with time for questions too. The headests and audio itself was great quality. This was a great couple of hours from the welcome to the goodbyes.

we had an excellent tour. Martin was a terrific story teller and coped beautifully with just two of us in the group. This made it a personal experience which we thoroughly enjoyed. Wonderful tour. Great guide

Took Ghost and Ghouls Tour with Story Telling and Drink in Mercat's Cellar. Martin was our guide and he did a great job: clear, enthusiastic, well-acted and did scarily startle us a few times. He set the atmosphere well. Headsets worked well and were a good addition.

An Amazing Tour 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🙂👻

I took part in the "Evening With Ghost And Ghouls Tour", on Wed 10th Jan 2024 and I have to say what an excellent tour it was. I really enjoyed it very much. Linda our guide was absolutely awesome too, she told us many stories of the history and the ghosts. I loved the drink of whisky on the tour too. I did also enjoy the vaults, that was pretty atmospheric indeed. But yes next time when I'm passing through Edinburgh again, I'll definitely book up on another tour.

Linda was an amazing story teller. She got all of us involved. Enjoyed listening to her knowledge and flair. The vaults are suitably creepy and the drinks and the extra stories at the end over a drink made the experience even more enjoyable!

Brilliant tour with brilliant guide

LOVED this tour!

My partner and I went on this tour recommended by a friend. Martin was our guide and he was the best! We learned so much from him and he made the tour so much fun! We had such a great time!! It was cool to see the south bridge vaults and learn about them. Also definitely was spooky with the different dark stories about Edinburghs past. We highly recommend to anyone to check it out! The whiskey at the end was definitely needed!

A macabre evening in Edinburgh

Our tour was exceptional!! Michael was our ghost guide for the evening and provided theatrics along with the ghostly tales. A bit of history included which were just as bone chilling as the ghost stories. This is a must while in Edinburgh. Ask for Michael for a ghastly experience!!

I could tell he had a lot of passion for his city of Edinburgh and it’s…less than picturesque history. The vaults were also an amazing experience to see.

A ghoulishly good time.

Full of drama, great stories and a little spookiness, this was a great tour to end the night with in Edenborough. Our tour guide was funny, full of flare, and certainly made for an entertaining night of ghost stories and creepy locations around the city. Would highly recommend this tour to anyone who likes a little ghostly fun.

Great tour

This is a great way to spend a couple of hours. The vaults are really interesting and atmospheric. I wouldn’t take young children on the tour as the tales of torture are a bit graphic. I suspect the quality of the guide makes a difference as it’s the storytelling that makes it

Me and my friend did one of the ghost tours during October with Ross. Him and the rest of the team were brilliant. We both loved it.

Worth every penny

We had an absolutely amazing time on our tour. Our guide, Ross, had a great style of storytelling. His acting made it very immersive and he really connected with his audience. I wish we could go on all the tours with him! It was worth every penny and I highly recommend booking any tour with Mercat, as they are all very well-organised.

Honestly that has to be one of thee best time I've ever had in the Edinburgh vaults ghosts and ghouls Ross our tour guide was both theatrical and hilarious my daughter who's 11 says she would do it all over again but only if she got Ross haha he's so funny but informative he was spooky which was exactly what a was hoping for he was so good with my daughter who was nervous he made it fun for her basically he's a ten out of ten when it comes to tour guides and thank you so much for an amazing spooky day will definitely be back,Mary Andy and Aiesha

Fun to be had!

Jared was an awesome storyteller! It was fun to learn about the history of the vaults and some other ghostly occurances in town. A few ghost stories after having a drink in the cellar was a great ending to the night.

Good fun tour

Had really good fun on this tour into the vaults. Our guide, Neave, was a captivating & funny storyteller who kept our attention throughout the tour. The wee dram in the cellar tavern at the end with some extra stories was a nice extra touch to the evening.

Exciting and Interesting Tour

Our tour guide Scott was a fabulous storyteller. His descriptions of the history and events were well timed and engaging. With the subject matter being a little scary and edgy he was amazing and at no time did we feel worried, even when we were in the vaults. The dram of whiskey was a good touch to top off the experience. This is a tour that should not be missed!

Fay was a fluent, charming, intelligent and, thankfully, calming guide for a superb and powerful dip into these dark vaults. Be warned that it has some horribly gory elements. The whisky at the end, with accompanying ghost stories, was very welcome! I highly recommend this tour.

Surprisingly Good!

Wife and daughter have never been to Edinburgh and were interested by the historical offering of Auld Reekie. We booked this tour as my daughter is 10 and it seemed suitable and appropriate, which it absolutely was. Scott, our tour guide was excellent and his narration interesting and delivered in his own style. Walking was around 1000 steps and was not exhausting. When we descended in to the vaults it added to the mystery and unexplained, in my daughters words, Spooktacular! After about 70 min you end up in a room in the vaults, enjoy a welcomed drink and listen to more ghostly stories for the final 20 min as you enjoy either an alcoholic or soft drink. Worth every penny! Thank you Scott!
