Fantastic day journeying out to see Hadrian's Wall. Jedburgh was a quaint town we stopped at to look at the Abbey. Vindolando was magnificant. If you are into Roman history, this is the tour for you. Dave our driver/guide was awesome. He explained everything to us and knows a ton of history. It is a long day, but well worth it!

Perfect Tour for history lovers. Amazing views. Visiting an ancient Roman town was fascinating. if you go checking out the museum is a must. Nice cafe where you can grab some lunch.

The whole day was full of highlights. Dave was fun and knowledgeable. Rabbies tour guides usually give better information.

Very good tour. The guide did some extra stops for us! On the way back maybe too much personal talk between the guide/driver and one passenger in the back of the bus. The rest of us just had to listen...

Al was an excellent guide. We learned so much about Scotland! His manner was very pleasant and his knowledge was immense. I'd certainly recommend him to other tourists.

A great trip to Hadrian's Wall

Duncan, our tour guide, was great! He was informative, accommodating, knowledgeable, friendly, patient, funny, and helpful. He obviously loves his job as a guide and likes people. My son and I also enjoyed Jedburgh Abbey, Vindolanda, and Hadrian's Wall.

Roman History in Scotland

Hadrian’s Wall and the Vindolanda museum has been on my bucket list for years. Our guide, Kieran, was very knowledgeable about Scottish history! Although his Scottish accent to my American ears was a little difficult, it was a wonderful cultural experience along with the Scottish folk music played on the radio. Seeing the beautiful Scottish countryside, so green and full of livestock, visually added to my brief immersion into Scotland. It’s a long day on the bus, but there are enough breaks to stretch your legs as we stopped at viewpoints, abby ruins and a chance to climb a ridge up to the Wall, which I did!

Great day … weather was great and the wall and Vinolanda were amazing. The bus and the drive was very comfortable. Brian the driver was fantastic, not only a skilled driver but a nice guy and very knowledgeable about the history. A perfect package.

Ally P's outstanding tour of Hadrian's Wall & Borders-- passion, enthusiasm and humor!

Ally P was an outstanding, engaging tour guide- one of the best I have had in many years of travel and tours. Our only regret is that we quickly hopped of the minivan when we were near our hotel, and we were not able to give Ally the gratuity he so richly deserved. (I left a message at the company, to no avail). We learned so much about Scotland south of Edinburgh, its economic, agricultural culture, history, and saw its magnificent, gorgeous landscape. Ally's map on the bus helped to orient! Hadrian's Wall was a must see and Ally's guidance was invaluable. Our visit to the Roman excavation site was not to be missed. The history is overwhelming, stimulating, exciting, interesting... we took in as much as we could! The tour stopped for a quick lunch at the cafe at the Roman site, met several of our lovely group members, and had several stops in lovely small towns along the way there and back. Another word about Ally: he provided an amazing wealth of knowledge in history and Scottish culture... but he also was well-versed in music and film history. Sprinkled in his communication were punny jokes and appropriate music choices to keep us highly engaged and entertained the entire day trip. While it was a long day, it was one of the best in our visit to Scotland. We will definitely be returning and intend to take more Rabbie's tours. We loved every minute in Scotland. Roman ruins

The ruins were the best part. The museum was full of interesting artifacts from the site. The site itself was well signed and easy to negotiate without a guide. Dave was a fun tour guide!

Roman ruins and the beauty of the Scottish Borders

We stepped into the past on our Rabbies tour of the Scottish Borders and Hadrian's wall. The Borders are an overlooked gem in Scotland, and I highly recommend escaping the crowds of the cities to explore Scotland further. Jim Scott, our curiosity captain, is a treasure. He kept us entertained with facts and trivia, as well as a sing-a-long. His recommendations for each stop on our journey were much appreciated. We would have missed so much without his guidance. Jim also made sure to personally connect with each of us and cultivated a family atmosphere for our time together. We hope to return Scotland again, and we will absolutely book Rabbies for more adventures.

Great day tour

I appreciate the small group tours that Rabby’s offers. Duncan is very personable and patient as a tour guide. More frequent stops and more time at the wall itself would have made it even better.

Would 100% take a Rabbies tour with David again

Wet but real

The tour along Hadrian’s Wall suffered some from the weather, but that’s what everyone living there throughout history endured. Regardless of the weather there is something about seeing the sites in person. The Vindolanda site was exceptional. The artifacts found there show hundreds of years of Roman life on the periphery. Send more beer.

Great tour, the guide was knowledgeable and really engaged, you could tell he wasn’t just doing his job, he was trying to make sure everyone got the most out of the trip. The sites were beautiful and the history behind each of them is amazing.

There is so much to recommend this tour. We had plenty of time to see everything and our guide, Kieran, was so knowledgeable about the history of each place we visited. He is clearly very passionate about the subject.

A good trip in lush green - enjoyed the journey, not so much the destination

It was a good trip. I enjoyed the lush green during the journey. Hadrian's Wall and the Museum may not be of everyone's choice unless he/she has interest in archeological stuffs. I had more expectations from Northumbria National park. I personally enjoyed the journey (drive through villeges and the lush green) not so much the destinations (wall, museum or national park)

History Buffs will enjoy!

If you are into history this place will provide you with plenty of information and give you all the feels of what happened during that time. I am not sure young children will enjoy it as much as just adults.

Great day with Rabbie Tours

My husband and I enjoyed this day trip from Edinburgh on May 1/24. The driver/guide, Dave, was excellent. He was knowledgeable, personable and flexible. He took us off the scheduled route for a small detour to view castle remains of my husband’s family. This was not expected but very much appreciated. Hadrian’s Wall and Vindolanda is a must for any history buff. Highly recommend Robbie’s Tours.

Good tour; great guide; spectacular scenery

During a very recent trip to Edinburgh, we took this tour to Hadrian's Wall, Vindolanda and the Borders. Our guide was a very knowledgeable and entertaining young woman. We stopped at a few different locations for Hadrian's Wall for brief walks and photos. We also stopped at some particularly beautiful spots to admire the landscape. Throughout the tour, we passed numerous fields with sheep and their lambs, making it the perfect time for our visit. Vindolanda was very interesting and included the ruins, museum, and an excellent museum cafe. I particularly enjoyed hearing the driver talk about history, including the border reivers. As a parent, I think this tour would not be very interesting for children. For teens and adults interested in history, it is an excellent tour. The tour operator, Rabbie's, specializes in small group -- 16 people or less--tours. Other tour operators use much larger buses. This tour had many bathroom break stops, with one at least every two hours. There are two reasons I didn't award the full five stars. First, the operator's microphone wasn't working well, which was a technical issue. The second is that it wasn't clear to me what the itinerary and timing were for the day. I wish tour operators would share that information at the start of the day. None of the three we did (two Rabbie's tours and one Hairy Coo tour) gave us a solid overview of the day ahead with timing.

Amazing trip to Hadrian's wall, driver was great, places were amazing. Great value for money, highly recommend, especially if you love history.

Just what I wanted

This tour was wonderful. Lizzie our tour guide was full of information and fun and I got to see a slice of Roman Britain that I had been dreaming of. Enjoyed every minute.

Very interesting tour - learnt loads

Our tour guide, Lizzie, was great- she really made the tour interesting. We went to see Hadrian's wall in two different locations and also visited a Roman settlement where exavations were taking place and the Museum displying findings over the years was great - Vindolanda! We also visited a small town called Jedburgh which had an Abbey- but only spent 30 mins here, so could not go in to see it - pity - they should allow at least one hour at Jedburgh and only stop once to see the wall - hence 4 stars. We would recommend this trip but check the weather forecast in advance of booking ( we did and had a dry day) since we think a dry weather day ( doesn't need to be warm - just dry) is essential to really make the most of this trip because all of the stops are outdoors - except at Vindolanda - inside the museum !!

Amazing view and we learned a lot

What a great way to learn more about Hadrian's Wall and Vindolanda while traveling! We had a great time with Stevi who knows a lot and is also super fun!

We had three hours to explore both the Roman Fort site, wall and the museum. Just the right amount of time.

Exploring Hadrians Wall

Keith and Wallace were brilliant. They gave us a great day out. Despite the cold, we enjoyed everything and learnt a lot. A different part of Scotland to explore, well worth it.

Very Informative

Our guide Andy was genuinely curious about us as a group, he came with lots of knowledge on the Roman aspect of the tour but mixed in lots of humour in a way that mattered.

Must do - wonderful experience and lovely tour guide!

Stefan was our tour guide and was extremely knowledgeable and humorous! He told us many applicable stories along the way and played wonderful music to go with the stories. He kept our bus laughing and smiling. I appreciated that Stefan ensured everyone knew how much time we had at each stop and what time we needed to be back on the bus. This made it a wonderful experience since we didn’t have to wait on anyone and was able to see all that we had planned (Mary Queen of Scots home, Hadrian’s Wall, Vindolanda: ruins, museum and cafe, and a bonus: Castle and town visit at Alnwick. Thank you, Stefan. I will definitely request for you on my next tour and recommend you to others!

Very informative tour

A part of Britain you don't want to miss

This is one of those trips that you must experience in person. No pictures can do it justice. Beautiful landscapes and amazing parts of Wall. The museum was an unexpected cherry on the top of an amazing day. Our driver Sean was a wonderful storyteller!

One of the best ever days you can experience

It was a lifetime dream to see Hadrians Wall and this day trip did not disappoint. Dominic was a wonderful guide and driver with so much knowledge and he contributed to a great day. We saw so many sights along the way and had ample time to explore and visit a number of locations on the Scottish borders, Northumberland and Cumbria

Excellent trip

Bruce was exceptional! We enjoyed his commentary and his humor. He was very thoughtful of our needs in terms of stops, etc. The itinerary was perfect and we saw a lot of the wall as well as the countryside. Bruce added a few extras that made the trip special. Amazing day out especially if you are a Roman history lover. A Must do on this trip is to make the climb up the Sill. Magnificent views. Thank you Al for all your insights and patience.

Rabbie's is as good as it gets

Rabbie’s Tours, I was born and bred in Scotland but have been overseas for the past 30 years; I make a point of going back to ‘ra auld country every year that I can. The last few years have seen “trip to Scotland” become “trip to Rabbie’s”. We’ve undertaken Rabbie’s guided tours every year. This year we undertook 3 tours :- the Rosslyn Chapel & Melrose Abbey (one of the Allys- Sun Oct 29th), Hadrian’s wall (Jim Scott) and St Andrew’s & Fife fishing Villages (Kenny & Al). Rabbie’s is no ordinary tourist trip. The driver/guide is not only both; first class passenger safety and comfort as driver, precise & accurate historical knowledge and anecdotes as guide...but mainly they are all entertainers who keep the passengers involved and interact on a personal level (Jim excels at this). The 16 seaters (in excellent condition) afford an intimate, friendly atmosphere and the passengers can opt in or out of quizzes/singalongs/entertainment as they wish. There is no part of the tours my family have been on that sees silence on the mini-bus – there’s always some entertaining banter, music and Q&A to keep everyone engaged. Special mention must go to Ally as I had a medical incident that involved me being transferred for a few days in hospital; I was incapacitated and he ensured that my family were catered for and conveyed to the Borders Hospital. The incident also necessitated a change in our booked itinerary which was dealt with smoothly and effectively by Rabbie’s admin. In Jim’s words, Rabbie’s passengers are not tourists, they are “travelling adventurers” and well treated as such. I have travelled widely the world over; nothing compares to Rabbie’s Tours. Hadrian's wall is a must see.

This was a fantastic day trip. The smaller coach was much more comfortable than a large bus. The scenery was breathtaking and the driver was both knowledgeable and friendly.

It was a memorable ...

It was a memorable tour..Seeing Hadrians Wall, our stop in Vindalonda with its impressive archeological dig and a very informative museum depicting the life the Roman army and the villagers outside the fort around 100 CE. Our guide, Steve, was very knowledgeable about the history and local folklore. He entertained us with stories and a selection of music. He is an excellent guide.

Fantastic

It was a long day but we'll worth it. We did several stops at the Hadrians wall & was able to hike a lot around the hills & wall. It was also fantastic to see the archeological dig of the Roman fortress dating back to 200AD. I would highly recommend this trip.

Memorable

The tour to Hadrian's Wall was very memorable. It was awesome to touch a structure that was so old. We were one of the lucky few to see the Sycamore Tree just two days before it was cut down. So sad.
