Amazing tour and guide

This tour was AMAZING! JAMES was our guide and he was incredibly knowledgeable and witty. He made the telling of the castle's history incredibly interesting. The castle itself is so beautiful and magnificent, it would be a shame to come to Edinburgh and not visit it and James is the perfect guide to come with.

Great tour of medieval warfare

Guides regale us on medieval weapons. The long hall with the dark roof structure and the walls covered in weapons.

Fantastic castle and guide!

James did an amazing talking guided tour of the castle and it’s many historic events littered though time that delighted my partner and myself as we took a nice and causal pace throughout. The passionate story telling was as much a highlight as the tour itself and would highly recommend if anyone wanted a tour guide you couldn’t go wrong right here.

The Castle was extraordinary, visit between October and April to get a great view from above otherwise the scaffolding for the August event is in the way obscuring the view

A great experience

The guide James was very informative and animated, we really enjoyed the tour of Edinburgh Castle today. His special subject is war weapons and British history and he told some great stories.

Incredible Castle Tour in Edinburgh

The views were incredible and the history was fascinating to learn. James did a great job explaining all the history of the castle and did a great job relating to other history (US and Roman history) to build a bridge for those who don’t know Scottish history as well.

King of the castle

Excellent tour. The tour guide Ellana was excellent at it. A wee ginger hair Italian. Very warm and friendly and gets everyone involved. She knows her job. Gives you lots of info about the castle. You have plenty of time to yourself afterwards to explore the indoors areas. We went at 12pm so were there to hear the canon go off at 1pm. Make sure you wear good comfortable flat shoes.

History with some twists!!

Our guide, Elena, was a delight! We enjoyed all her insight and information. Also, due to water conditions, we were not allowed off our cruise ship in time to make our tour. I called the local company and, since there were just 2 of us, they fit us in on a later tour.

Worthwhile tour

This tour was helpful and very enjoyable. James, our tour leader, was knowledgeable and interesting, and looked after our group very well. It was a great way to get a feel for all the different parts of Edinburgh Castle so that we could then explore each building in more depth after the tour.

Lydia was really knowledgeable and was a great host on our tour. It was just the right length but would have love a couple of places to sit.

Very knowledgeable guides

We were able to get last-minute tickets to see the castle by scheduling a tour, as they were otherwise sold out. Our guide, James, was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. The private guides are not allowed to enter any of the buildings during the tour. I thought this was a drawback at first, but after seeing how crowded the buildings are, I realized it was actually a good thing. We had plenty of time to listen to the guide and ask questions while outside away from the crowds and then see the inside of the buildings on our own after the tour.

A highlight of our visit to The Royal Mile!

Our guide was excellent, friendly and knowledgeable! We were new to Edinburgh and were so pleased to learn so much of its history on a breezy, sunny day!

Grand Castle of Edinburgh

Great walk around this magnificent castle could have spent more time there, so much to learn . The views were spectacular , we were lucky to have beautiful weather.

Highly recommended

We had bought tickets for an earlier time but couldn’t make it. We were accommodated for a later time and that was very kind. David was our tour guide, he was very informative and funny. His delivery was very clear and easy to follow. We went with a group and he answered many questions that the group had.

If you haven’t seen it, it’s a must see.

Guide was friendly and knowledgable about the castle. Need more time to do the whole castle. Would be nice if you could go more on the castle.

Above and beyond (heroic, actually) on the disability accommodation

I had an exceptionally positive experience with Edgar and his colleague (who reminded me of Sir Ian McKellen, although I forget his name). I was a first-time wheelchair user on this vacation. We were assured when we signed up that they could accommodate me on the Edinburgh Castle Guided Tour. And they did. Under very challenging circumstances. It was "a proper rain" (translation = pouring) and the car that was arranged by the Castle to get me to the top did not show. Edgar (who is the proprietor and not the guide on that tour) pushed me over cobbles straight up hill for about 30 minutes. He conveyed absolute respect and a thoroughgoing conviction that disabilities need to be accommodated. Sir Ian McKellen was dry (witted) with fantastic anecdotes, and he projected his voice among the cacophony of building that was occurring for the upcoming Military Tattoo. Learned a lot. These folks are pros.

Funny and Insightful

The guides were funny and knowledgeable. I learned a lot of new things about the castle that I was not aware of. Definitely recommend this tour group.

Great history

Interesting history in the castle. Tour guide seemed quite knowledgeable about the castle. Only problem was the meetup spot was listed incorrectly on our tickets/the website. The guide called us and came and found us so we could join up with the group

The guide was terrific. Such a nice person with lots of history knowledge and more. Details about royal figures have definetely made a difference.

Well with doing the castle tour

The tour was well worth it, the guide was enthusiastic and knowledgeable. But we struggled to hear at times due to the construction work going on for the Edinburgh Tattoo.
