Very good experience

Pick up at the hotel. To arrive in the desert and it left for 1 hour of 4x4 in the dessert. Mr. Sahib 007 is an excellent driver and animator, followed by a camel ride, falcon presentation, show, shisha, dinner. It was perfect. Good group, glad to have met is two young Chinese. <p>This is the perfect tour if you're wanting to try sandboarding. It is great fun but exhausting having to walk back up the dunes carrying your board after each turn. Our guide was friendly and informative and we enjoyed the dune bashing experience (and felt safe!) too.</p>

<p>The equipment's are for snowboarding i.e. you just can't get the straps tight enough to control the board take your biggest shoes with you and also one of them was broken! Walking up the dynes is a good exercise! Well, you'll get nice pics - been there done that!</p>

<p>It was good we were only with the 2 of us and a guide/driver. The guide picked us up at our hotel in time and we had a nice ride into the desert with some touristic information. The sandboarding was quite a dissapointment since you have to walk all the way up the sandy dunes, which is very very heavy. Therefor you only sandboard downhill for 1-2 times, because it's just to heavy and hot. We were ready sandboarding in max. 30 min. and drove back to Dubai, whereas the entire trip should have lasted several hours. I find it quite expensive for the experience and would 've appriciated honest information on this trip.</p>

<p>We left our hotel early, at 7 a.m., but at least we avoided the morning rush. It takes about 1 hour to get to the site, because of the early departure, we were the first there. Also it wasn't hot.<br/> Sandboarding is a fun activity. Depending on the group size, you have 3-4 turns on the board.<br/> The tour includes some driving among the dunes. Sometimes you may think the car will turn over, but the drives are well-trained, they keep the car on its wheels : If you have motion sickness you get seasick, air-sick or car-sick, this part is not for you.<br/> I recommend this if you spend only a short time in Dubai, but want to some outdoor activity. With an early start, you are free to do anything in the afternoon.<br/> One tip: use the air-pump at the service station to clean your shoes, so you won't pour the desert sand everywhere for weeks.</p>

This was billed as being a 4 hour 4x4...

<p>This was billed as being a 4 hour 4x4 dune and sand boarding safari so we expected to be on the dunes for probably half of the time. In reality the 'dune bashing' was about 20 minutes, 10 minutes from a restaurant to a chosen dune for sand boarding and then 10 minutes back. The sand boarding was fun but the boards are old snowboards so the fastenings don't work with trainers. That part was however worthwhile and a new experience. The dune bit was a disappointment as we were probably not more than 500m away from the main road and therefore did not really get to experience the vastness of the dunes away from civilisation. 4 hours translates to a bit over 3 in reality 2 hours to get there and back so disappointing and could have been so much better if it wasn't so staged.<br/> It felt like the driver does it a couple of times a day and it is just a conveyor belt operation, same route, same tacky restaurant, same sand dune, despite the huge space available the dune we used was covered in previous tyre tracks.</p>

As a good snowboarder, I was disappointed with the speed you could reach and also the hike back up to the top of the hill was tiring. <br/> The dune bashing was OK but nothing special.<br/> A long way to go for what it was, would be OK if you were interested in doing this at the start of the day and follow it with other activities.</p>

<p>The service provider was good. Private driver arrived on time, comfortable drive to the desert, cold drinks in the car. However the experience of sandboarding I would not recommend. For someone who snowboards and kite surfs this was a real let down. One can only glide straight down a sand dune very very slowly! The sand dune being very small made the descent very short and having to climb back up the sand dune in the desert sun did not help the situation. For those who have tried any gliding activity I would recommend avoiding this one.</p>

<p>It certainly is worth doing and good fun coming down however it's not for those of an unfit nature walking back up a steep sand dune is not easy. Our guide was good at insuring we remained hydrated by offering us water every time we made it back up to the top, but even so we needed a good few minutes to get our breath once up. A couple of tips: you don't need to buy any head scarves or any other souvenir paraphernalia from the shop you first start at, however I would recommend long socks or strong boots. The reason being that the board uses typical snowboard bindings designed for a boot and as such won't do up tightly on anything else. The net result being if when you fall over the back of the binding scraps the back of your leg as it's not fixed securely.</p>

<p>Unfortunately our pre booked trip starting at a civilized 9 am was changed to 8.15am the day before, so OK, was expecting just us 4 in vehicle but another couple was already in the vehicle when we picked up, no real problem. <br/> Trip out and onto dunes was good, thought driver was going to blow up engine :-) but guess that's part of it, sand boarding was fun everyone had as much time as they wanted. Overall the trip lasted just over the 3 hours, which to be honest was enough. Would recommend as overall was a good experience.</p>

<p>Our tour guide was fantastic. Very animated and discussed the city Dubai on our way to the dunes. When on the dunes his skills on the 4x4 was exciting and exhilarating. Then with the sand boarding he found us a very clean area and we went down it as many times as we wanted. Don't worry about falling cause its soft sand. Of course going back up for another run was the hard part. We had a great time and would recommend it highly!</p>

<p>The operator is completely unprepared for sandboarding. The boards were old and not waxed - therefore not sliding at all. Despite the assurance that boots will be provided, we had to go bare foot. The operator had chosen dunes right next to the road - little fun and not really a "desert" experience. Shall I go further? Not recommended.</p>

<p>The dunes where they bring you are located beside a small shop where they basically harass you into buying souvenirs and rip you off by charging 3-5 times what you would pay in the malls in Dubai. BE WARNED . DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM THESE CON ARTISTS. YOU WILL BE SCAMED. The drive on the sand dunes was great fun. The sand was too hot this time of year for climbing up the dunes after sliding down. I was on my own so maybe this is why the whole trip from my hotel there and back including the activity was only 2hr 15 mins and not the 4 hrs it was described as.</p>

<p>Excellent Tour! Our guide, George, showed up early and was very friendly and told us a ton of info about the UAE and Dubai on our way into the desert. He was helpful with the sand boarding, allowing us to decide how many times we wanted to go down the hill. He had cold water and drinks in the car, as well. After sand boarding, he even took us to ride camels although it wasn't on the itinerary! He dropped us off after the tour right at the doorstep, which was very nice and convenient. It's a great way to get out of the city and see the desert - definitely recommend.</p>

<p>This was a fun excursion to the desert. On the day, I was the only participant booked so it turned out to be a private tour. The driver/guide was very professional and accommodating. The 4-wheeling prior to the sandboarding was fun and edgy. The sand boarding equipment was a very good standard. There wasn't much instruction so it's a case of 'give it a go'. Be prepared to get dirty (sandy). I enjoyed the morning and would definitely recommend it as a break from the shops and glitz of the city.</p>

<p>Driver was very good. Because we stayed at the Atlantis we got almost a city tour to pick up another passenger. Driver was very knowledgeable. However the sand-boarding is very exhausting. Climbing back up the dunes is very hard. You need to be fit. Driving through dunes is great experience.</p>
