Quite the jungle stroll!

The preliminary sensations of arriving at Corcovado National Park is intense. We spent much time in many different parks but this park had a lot of hype and reputation for being one of the best old growth tropical forests still remaining on the pacific coast! Needless to say we were excited! We joined the rest of the group in Drake bay at 615 am, enjoyed a 45 min boat ride at 25-35 knots cruising along the coast to Sirena lodge. It just a short 3 hour stroll through the jungle along the Rio claro trail we encountered an unrivaled amount of species. Spider monkeys, ant-eater, mecos monkeys, a 3-toed sloth and baby, curacawo birds, egrets, Hurons, many different lizards and birds species. Then on the next part of the trail we had a resting tapir, boa constrictor, a beautiful display of leaf cutter ants, soldier ants, many different butterflies and spider species. Honestly, too much to name and remember just a few hours later. Our guide, Steven was incredible! Just so our speed with life, philosophy, perspective, knowledge, and realism. I’m a professional guide back in California and Steven is very personable and incredibly knowledgeable about all the flora and fauna. Not only that. He has a utmost respect for his coworkers- the animals. He respects there space first, I saw other groups with their guide getting too close to suspects and causing potential stress..which we should all avoid in these rare and special places. Much love and respect to our guide Steven! I hope we have the pleasure and luck to join him on another excursion in the future! Pura vida!!

Amazing experience and amazing guide

In December 2022, we went an a 3 day tour (Sirena & San Pedrillo/Corcovado backyard) with Steve / Osa Outdoors as our guide. These 3 days were, without doubt, the highlight of our 1 month trip to Costa Rica. The park is simply beautifull with an abundance of wildlife, diversity of nature and cool trails. Both overnights are comfortable and meals are very good. But the most important part of this experience was that the guide Steve is nice guy, knowledgeable and very passionated about the wildlife, nature, how both interact with each other and what our role is in nature. I would really recommend booking your trip with Steve/Osa outdoors.

Great tour

Great tour with Jairo. He had lots of knowledge and having just the two of us and him was very worth it. Saw lots of animals and had a really nice filling lunch. Rough seas and difficult beach landing but still a great tour.

An unforgettable day

Steven is a very nice guy and I am sure also a great guide. But I didn't go with him but with his colleague Donny, and what can I say? It was an amazing experience and Donny showed and explained a lot! He has a very good knowledge about the nature in Corcovado and sees things/animals where you wouldn't even consider looking at. Wonderful wildlife and knowledgeable guide made trip to Corcovado amazing - Photographers take note!

My wife and I stayed four nights on the Osa Penninsula at Aguila de Osa Inn (see separate review of this great place) and one of the days was a tour of Corcovado National Park, Sirena Ranger Station. Steven was our guide for that trip and although the wildlife we saw was fantastic, Steven's information and knowledge to find it and about it made the trip even more amazing. The trip to the park was via a 1+ hour boat ride from our lodging to the station. The ride, while taking a while, was also great and on the way there and back we got to see dolphins and jumping Devil Rays! Sooooo cool. The boat captain and crew looked out for the wildlife and gave us time, especially coming back, to stop and take pictures and just enjoy it. Including the boat rides back and forth, this tour time was about 5 hours. When we got to the station, it is a wet landing. This part of Costa Rica is more wild and that means you need to be prepared and be mobile enough to get on and off the boats but the captains and crew handle this great. You just should have the right footwear and understand the situation. As long as you are mobile and comfortable, no problem. Our tour were people ranging from their 50s to 70, all in different shapes, and everyone did fine. Also, remember that you are in a tropical rain forest so prepare to sweat. No avoiding that.... Once we got in the park, the walk around is flat and you just take your time to see all the park has to offer. We saw coati, howler monkeys, capuchin, spider monkeys, tons of birds and, a big win, a tapir. Probably other things I'm forgetting but it was wildlife rich. Some of the animals were just there but much of it was because Steven knew where to look or knew what to look for. He and other guides worked together so everyone got to enjoy the amazing sights. There was one bird that was soooo well camouflaged that even when we were looking directly at it, we did not know it was a bird until he told us what to look for. He was able to explain about the wildlife throughout so it wasn't just about seeing it. It was also about learning about it. He answered questions easily, owned up if he didn't know something but checked with colleagues to see if they knew and was a genuinely nice guy throughout. He made the trip very informative and pleasurable. We would absolutely recommend him for a trip to Corcovado and highly recommend getting to the park. Especially if you are a photographer, as I am. I shot a lot of photos while there. The tour was one of our favorites during 2.5 wonderful weeks in Costa Rica.

Lots of photo opportunities. Guide was good at pointing them out. Lunch was pretty average but that was about what I expected.

Fantastic tour!

Pedro--our tour guide--was excellent! We saw all 4 types of monkeys, macaws, toucans, many birds. He was attentive to all our needs, including my daughters. Really excellent--you will not regret it.

Fantastic Guide Steven Masis--Sirena One Day, San Pedrillo 2 day overnight

My son and I spent 3 days with Steven this past December as we did a 2 day overnight at San Pedrillo station (hiking in and out from/to Jungle Jaquar hostel) and a 1 day trip to Sirena Station. Steven has an incredible knowledge of all the plants, birds (i think he communicated with all of them through his bird calls) and animals. He also is just a very nice person to be around...always with a quick smile and chuckle!! He is a very high energy guy and thus we were able to see many animals and experience the rainforest simultaneously. He put together a 2.5 minute video of our trip which i will treasure always!! Highly recommend Steven!!

Steven is the best guide we met in CR

Out of the many guides we had in CR, Steven was the best ! He was very knowledgeable about the Corcovado park animals and vegetation, and knows exactly where to look in order to show us the best sights. He was also very helpful in booking other activities in the area. I highly recommend him!

Totalmente recomendable

Nos gustó mucho el tour, sobretodo el conocimiento y explicaciones de Steven, que lo hicieron super interesante, aunque no creo que podamos recordar todo lo que nos contó jeje A destacar su esfuerzo para que vieramos muchos animales, incluso cuando ya creíamos que no veríamos ningún tapir, nos llevó casi corriendo por la playa hasta que al final lo encontramos, pocos minutos antes que saliera el bote de vuelta. Si alguna vez volvemos a Corcovado, seguro que contrataremos de nuevo este tour. Gracias Steven!

Einmaliges Erlebnis

Tour über das Hotel (Margarita) gebucht, früh (05:50am) vom Hotel abgeholt, 1 Stunde mit dem Schnellboot zur Rangerstation La Sirena gebracht (es rumbelt ordentlich) und dann 2 wundervolle Exkursionen ( unterbrochen durch eine halbstündige Rast in der Rangerstation) unternommen. Super Tour Guide (Steven) der selber so neugierig war, wie wir. Tolle Tiger Begegnungen!!

Dos dias con osa outdoors

Eramos un grupo de 6 personas, y hemos realizado una caminata preciosa con Steven. Ademas de ver animales que si no no apreciarias, tiene mucho conocimiento de la zona, que comparte con mucha facilidad. El dia siguiente repetimos con él para el tour de la isla del caño. Muy recomendable.

La mejor experiencia en corcovado

Tuvimos una experiencia increíble en Corvocado, el lugar, los animales y sin duda Steven, es un guía súper completo, con conocimiento extenso de la flora y fauna, nos mencionó una cantidad enorme de datos de los cuales no tenía idea, así que también es una oportunidad para apreder sobre Costa Rica, nos sentimos en confianza de poder hablar y preguntar, es una persona muy optimista y contagia esa energía alta, si piensan visitar Bahía Drake y quieren conocer, aprender y divertirse, no duden en contactarse con él.

Corcovado con Steven

Steven es un guía increíble con mucho conocimiento acerca de la flora y fauna de Costa Rica. Tomamos un tour privado con Steven en Corcovado y la experiencia fue muy buena. Super recomendado.
