Recommendable! All about cigar production in Puerto Plata

Very friendly welcome, although we were a bit late. Guided tour of the cigar production in the house was very impressive. We were allowed to wrap our own cigar and learn a lot about the seeds, fermentation, storage of the leaves and subsequent production. Everyone received their own cigar. Highly recommended.

Wonderful experience!

I visited the Vivonte Cigar shop/factory. From first contact over WhatsApp to the visit, it was great and friendly service without any pressure to buy anything. I contacted the via WhatsApp and got a quick response back, they arranged to send their taxi driver. I called when I wanted to go and got picked up in 10 minutes in an air conditioned car. Quick ride over and didn’t pay the guy yet, will pay when he takes me back when I call. The tour was quick, very small operation. Met the owner who was very friendly and nice. We chatted as I smoked a cigar and had coffee. It is a rainy day so perfect way to spent the time. I purchased a few cigars to take home, they packaged my selection to take home. No push to buy anything. Overall it was a wonderful experience! Would highly recommend if you want your enjoy a rainy day smoking a local cigar with nice and friendly people.

Cigars start to finish

This made for an interesting stop. Husband smokes cigars so thought it would be great to see how it’s done. Booking was r Easy, Glenn was very good with communication and arranged a taxi to collect us from just outside the port for $40. Trip from port to the Cigar store was about 20 minutes each way. Had a great time and Glenn showed us the process and ended watching the ladies rolling the cigars by hand. Hubby tried the “” after their chat regarding what he likes and loved them, proceeded to buy 2 bundles of 30 - would recommend to anyone interested in cigars

Visit premium cigar

I asked to visit a premium cigar factory and happened to learn from the hotel about De Leon Cigars Sylvio picked me up with my son in law and visited his shop. It was a beautiful experience very friendly got a smoke and enjoyed the the medium taste and the explanation of his passion from A to Z. We got a few boxes back and still in touch with him. Can't wait to visit again in the very near future.

Top notch cigar tour with amazing hospitality!

My husband and I had such a wonderful time at Vivonte Cigar. Glen, the owner, spent several hours chatting sharing stories. It felt like meeting a friend. I really enjoyed the tour of his factory and even rolled a cigar! His hospitality along with his staff is top notch! Immediately upon arrival we were provided with amazing cigars suited to our own preference and severed amazing Dominican coffee. Try the Canadian whiskey, Dominican coffee, and mamajuana! His cigars are extremely high quality and the prices are very reasonable. One tip, bring cash to purchase the cigars that way you can avoid the high taxes on credit card purchases in the Dominican Republic. Also, arrange travel through Glen. Taxis in the DR can be very expensive and not the most reliable to take you where you want to go. Glen contracts out with a gentleman named Miguel. He was prompt, reasonable, and reliable.

A Great Cigar Experience!

Glen (the President/Owner) was great! He's has an amazing knowledge of cigars and makes you feel extremely comfortable in the story/factory. Smoking one of his cigars makes the visit very memorable.

We had a wonderful cigar experience with Glen and his staff at Vivonte Cigars. The cigars were phenomenal and the company was even better. We look forward to making our way back to Puerta Plata again soon!

Was visiting Puerto Plata via cruise ship. I sent Glen Hamilton an email a week or two in advance, and he set us up with a taxi and private tour. Glen, the owner, is a very warm and welcoming fellow who met us at the door and personally showed us around his operation. We sat and chatted while enjoyed cigars and beer in the lounge. Prices are very reasonable and I bought a box to bring home to Canada. If I am ever anywhere near Puerto Plata again, I absolutely will visit again. **Caution: Many predatory competitors will work hard to get you to the wrong place. If you want to visit Vivonte, ONLY trust Glen's driver and ONLY go into the shop in the picture.

Great experience

I have been in Puerto Plata some days ago, by cruise. Before to get there, a few days before, i wrote an email to Glen and he quickly answered to me. When I arrived there, He was waiting for me. He showed to us his labor, how they make the cigars and the aging room, after that we enjoyed a cigar toghether and talking a couple hours. If you want a great tour go see Glen, he is great. The tour was informative, and very relaxing. My husband and I were there for a few hours. Glen and his staff are so friendly, also the Cigars are exceptional.

My wife and I had a great time. At first we discussed the type of cigars I liked. I like a full bodied to madero smoke. After some discussion we lit one up and started the tour. The best part was watching my wife being shown how to roll cigars. She did pretty good job and even though she does not smoke she enjoyed the experience. I would recommend this tour to any one. We finished our cigars and got a taxi ride back to the ship. I should mention as part of the tour the taxi ride to and from the ship was included The driver also made a couple of short stops on the way back to the ship. Cigar Tour

We contacted the owner, Glen, via email a few days before our arrival to see if he could accommodate us at his factory the day our cruise ship was in port. He was easy to contact and responded quickly that he would be available. He gave us a very informative tour showing us his cigar aging room and one of his rollers was there to show us how they roll the cigar. He explained the whole process from seed to cigar explaining how the manufacturing business works. He has a great passion for his business and wants his customers to have a great experience. His humidor is filled with his top cigars and after smoking one of his cigars my husband purchased a box with no sales pressure and was a very happy man that day. We highly recommend that you stop by when in Puerto Plata.

Fabulous cigars & tour

Glen talked to us about his handcrafted cigars and gave us a tour. He is a master blender and does his own cigars. I smoked a mild, smooth & creamy cigar. My husband smoked a medium to full with great flavor, nutty and creamy. Both had a great burn. Well worth the time to see, learn and enjoy a great stick.

Top quality custom cigars.

As a Cuban cigar aficionado who has tried much of the regular production Cuban cigars over the years as well as (my favorites BTW) the farm rolled cigars of the Fincas of Pinar del Rio , (Hector Prieto, Robaina) also the custom rolled cigars in Havana , (la China , Hamlet, Reynaldo, Alexandro etc.) I find it a rare occasion when a non Cuban cigar is as enjoyable . Thus with little expectation I checked out the boutique cigar shops/factories in Puerto Plata . The initial vibe was a hustle the tourist going on in the first couple shops visited , and poor quality cigars . Was unimpressed until I darkened the door of the Vivonté Cigar Factory & Lounge. Met Glenn Hamilton , owner and Canadian expat. Together with his son and an experienced staff , produce what are impeccably constructed Dominican cigars with the best quality grown and cured tobaccos in the DR . Complex , smooth , enjoyable cigars. Their Puerto Plata facility has a selection of custom cigars . Sampled the #7 ,#8 and #12 custom rolls . These are comparable to the best of the big name Dominican Manufacturers IMHO. At $5-$10 a cigar each in bundles an awesome value. If your in PP drop in and spend a couple hours with Glenn , enjoy great cigars and conversation.

We found this cigar factory tour on the Viator website in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic. I really wanted to take my husband on the tour as he is a cigar enthusiast. Vivonte Cigars provided an exceptional tour experience. We had a very nice driver Jonathan pick us up from the port and took us to the factory. We were greeted by employees and offered delicious fresh brewed delicious coffee. Glenn the owner met us and started us off with our own cigar! Glenn was very friendly and knowledgeable about the cigar industry. He shared with us the history on the plantations, seed origins, process of drying, blending, aging, storing, the humidor room and the rolling room. This was a very personable experience and we absolutely loved it. I have never smoked anything in my entire life and I honestly enjoyed the cigar Glenn recommended so much that I smoked the whole thing! The cigars are all hand rolled with the best top quality leaves! We learned a few great tips as well. This was such a fun and educational tour! We enjoyed our time with Glenn so much and hope to stay in touch and get back there again. I would urge anyone whether smoker or not to go on this specific tour. This is a smaller operation but THE BEST hand rolled cigars you are going to find in the D.R. as they have so many quality control checks to insure these are an amazing smoking experience! You learn so much in a friendly and fun environment! We did purchase a collection of 24 hand picked cigars by Glenn which he carefully packaged for us to take back to the states. Very educational

Great experience! We really enjoyed the tour and could see that Glen and his team put a lot of attention to detail in their process of cigar manufacturing. Be sure and only use Vivonte Cigar's transportation, standard taxi's will take you to other venues because they are paid commission to do so. Vivonte Cigar's smoke like other Dominican cigars that cost twice the price. Highly recommend.

Awesome five Stars!

The trip was very well planed out in advance great communication from the tour operator with advance taxi planning, answering all questions and helpful in explaining all steps from acquiring the tobacco to aging and rolling with offers at hands on experience. Very friendly and informative! Shout out to Jonathan also our driver for making us feel safe😀!

Great time!

It was a lot of fun to visit this cigar factory! Glen was really knowledgeable, it was awesome learning about this family owned business. We even got to have a hands on experience rolling and testing out some very good cigars. If you’re a cigar lover or even a beginner smoker with little to no knowledge about cigars this is the place for you!

Nice tour, these guys know there stogies, small organization, big impression! They thoroughly explained the cigar making process. From planting to finish product. In my opinion Dominican cigars are the best.

Cigar Lounge

Great place to visit. After some confusion regarding transport Mr. Hamilton called our hotel to rearrange visit, what dedication. Mr Hamilton gave us an excellent tour of his business, was extremely knowledgable and gracious. The best words I can say are, quality, consistency and professionalism of the factory and of course the cigars. We enjoyed a light meal, I enjoyed a great cigar and returned to our hotel very satisfied. I highly recommend this busines as you will feel comfortable and welcomed. Please even if you don't smoke cigars pay a visit to this fellow Canadian, they offer a lounge for light meals and beverages. Highy recommend this business

A must stop when in Puerto Plata

A must stop for any causal or cigar enthusiast. Took a cab from our resort which took us to the wrong place which I’m convinced was intentional on the cabbies part. However once we arrived at Vivonte we met Austin who was just starting to unlock and open for the day. He quickly introduced himself to the six of us, sat us down in the lounge with some beers. Once opened, his staff managed the store while he took us to the workshop for a tour. Unfortunately for us it was Sunday so there was no production. So knowledgeable about the whole process from seed to smoke and I learned a few things that I wasn’t aware of. We all selected a single cigar, returned to the lounge for more great discussion about cigars, culture and being a Canadian owning a business in Puerto Plata. After some tough decisions on so many choices in the humidor we were on our way. Definitely will be back. Thanks Austin - great host.

Great hospitality great tour

Txt with the owner glen hamilton told him that we wanted a tour not knowing that when we got there he would be the one doing the tour it was great any one going to the d r s. Schooled do the tour of the factory like I said it was great and the cigars where so good.We bought several and a bottle of mamajuana there.

Unforgettable experience

We had such a great time with Glen, who is very respectful, intelligent and charismatic. Glen made it very clear through effective communication over emails how we were going to get to and from the shop and even sent pictures of the driver and car we would be traveling in. We got the opportunity to roll cigarillos of our own to go with the complimentary cigars that Glen smoked with us and a breakfast platter filled with fresh fruit and eggs. By far the best $20 I have ever spent. If I’m ever back in the Dominican Republic it would be my pleasure to be in the company of Glen and the staff at Vivonte.

Great Education on Cigars

Glen was nice enough to give us a tour of his cigar factory and an education on the process of how they choose which leaves are binders, fillers ect. My wife and I smoked a quality cigar that tasted way better than the cheap ones I normally smoke, I recommend stopping by if your in the area.

Must visit if you vacationing in Puerto Plata

While vacationing in Playa Dorada, I was told from a local man that if I wanted real cigars I had to visit Vivonte( please note that there are a lot of local men selling cigars along the beach but those cigars are not real) While driving around the city center I was able to find the place.Glen talked shortly but passionately about his 14 years in Puerto Plata and of course his expertise in the cigars business.Products he sells are of prime quality. Try his mamajuana and you will be hooked.

The owner provided a brief overview of his company demonstrating his passion he has for being one of the best in the industry. As a family owned and operated business the proud of ownership was evident while touring their facility right through to the growing and selection of the plant they use to manufacture their Vivonte cigars. The factory was small but very efficient and well laid out on the second floor. A must place to visit while in Puerto Plata!!! Thank you Glen Hamilton the President of Vivonte for an informative insight on the pleasure of smoking cigars. You made our day! The Sunwing tour guide and bus driver were excellent transporting us to the factory as well ensuring we gathered ourselves to move on to another destination.

Best Day Ever!!

I thought I had already done this...apparently not!! Glenn, Paul, Andre and the sweet young lady behind the counter and our chef....such a wonderful group and a wonderful place to learn about cigars but mostly to enjoy the culture of DR. Eduador and the Kia were such a plus. We thoroughly enjoyed our time off the ship and would recommend it to other cigar lovers.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND! Take the tour, or just stop in, have a drink and a cigar. Very clean, relaxed atmosphere. Happy hour from4-8. Call for tour and Glen will set up private transportation for you. He's very informative, and entertaining. And, the cigars are really good too!

Great hand made cigars

I highly recommend this tour and the best was that my wife and myself were the only ones that day. Glen the owner secured private cab transportation from our hotel in Cabernet to get us there and back, which was an added extra plus. Glen is passionate in his work, extremely knowledgeable, and was a great conversationalist. Additionally, the lunch provide was good, and as an option there was a variety of spirits and beer available. I enjoyed the visit and as a result bought a box of 25 Maduro/ robusto, and 3 bundles of others, all of fine construction and quality. Glen , keep up the good work and I will definitely see you again when in the DR on a return trip.

Vivonte cigar tour

The visit to the Vivonte cigar factory turned out to be a highlight for us. Very, very interesting, informative, professional, and fun! We also sat down for lunch, which was wonderful! Great burgers, very good coffee and cigars. Everybody just loved it. We got to see two more cigar factories later during another tour. Not even close to the fun we had had at Vivonte and extremly boring compared to what we had seen and learned at Vivonte just a couple days earlier. Vivonte cigar tour highly recommended for all ages, thanks Austin for a great day!

Very nice place. Lunch was excellent. A lot of information about cigars. I don't smoke, so this was very informative. Personal tour. We could stay as long as we wanted. They serve drinks for a reasonable price. We had arranged pick-up from the hotel. Driver was on time. Newer car, air-conditioned.

You cant beat the price for what you get!

Very informative tour and extremely hospitable employees. The lunch is whatever you want off the menu and the drinks are just the same. They also give you a sample of their aphrodisiac drink that's kind of like wine but not as potent yet still very good. You get a cigar as well :)

Vivonté was awesome.

Friendly and professional business with great customer services, the best coffee and cigars available in Puerto Plata in my opinion. I would definitely recommend this factory as a must stop. Delivers the full cigar experience

My friend and I had an amazing experience at Vivonte with Glen as our host. As two young woman in their early 20s who are only slightly experienced with cigars, he treated with us a great amount of respect and patience. We were given a very informative education session, having been explained the process of growing, preparing and rolling the cigars. We were even given the opportunity to try and roll one! Glen coached us on how to properly light the cigars and different smoking technics. The staff was very friendly, and our meals (the ham& cheese omelette) was fantastic with the sweetest fruit. Even the coffee was top quality, and while it is a cigar shop Glen explained to us how to keep our coffee at its freshest, and even mamajuana preparation! It was very obvious to us that he was passionate and dedicated to his work, and it showed in his tour and the wonderful hospitality we were shown. No matter what age you are, definitely a memorable experience.

Best stop in Dominican Republic

Title says it all! Even if you don't smoke cigars it is a great place to visit. The Dominican Republic is known for cigars and coffee (mostly). We got both, plus a local elixer called mamajuana. Even though we popped in late, Glen took the time to give me a tour while my wife got a bite to eat and fresh fruit smoothie. I learned a lot about cigars, coffee, and the Dominican Republic. This is a must stop in Puerto Plata for everyone! Thank, Glen

A Touch of Paradise in Paradise

What a nice respite from the all-inclusive resort. Met Glenn, the owner, upon our arrival and he gave us a tour of the place, a short education on the art of cigar-making, and then helped us pick out some fine Vivonte sticks to enjoy with lunch before turning us over to his son Austin, who made sure we were well cared for. The food - freshly prepared - was great! Best chicken quesadillas I've ever had. The Presidente beer was ice cold, the cigar smoked beautifully from first puff to last, and the clean, comfortable ambiance of the place made it hard to eventually pry myself out of the overstuffed leather armchair. If you love good cigars, do not miss a chance to visit this place.

De tour was kort maar wel leuk, uitleg van de productie van sigaren, verschillende types, een drankje er bij, alleen zat geen lunch er bij zoals bij de titel het aangeeft.

He showed me around the whole factory, with three people rolling Torpedo cigars. And showed me around the drying room (very interesting thing but very difficult to stay long because of the stinging eyes. Then they asked me about my favorite cigars and I bought 30 What I really enjoyed was the knowledge side, and especially the small craft factory of very good quality I had read good reviews, and I went there, Vayron offered me a cigar, and advised me on the method to smoke it with more flavor, which I did not know! He showed me around the whole factory, with 3 people who rolled Torpedo cigars And showed me around the drying room (very interesting but very difficult to stay long because of the stinging eyes. Best cigars in Puerto Plata, price/performance ratio 💥👍💥

I went there alone, the place is easy to find, about 400 meters walk from the cathedral (main square). Excellent friendly advice, I bought the house brand for 3 US dollars each!!!! Very good price for a good medium cigar. Of course there are other price categories with excellent quality, Glen is a cool guy and gives very experienced advice!!! Please do not buy overpriced cigars in the tourist resort or on the beach!!! Here cigars are sold for 30/30 US dollars and for that you can get 10 from Glen.

Sehr netter und herzlicher Besitzer. Wir haben viel gesehen und viel über die Herstellung und Geschichte der Zigarren geredet. Nebenbei konnten wir eine Zigarre rauchen und im Anschluss natürlich auch kaufen. Sehr lohnenswerter Ausflug
