Great guide, smelly driver

Great guide. Very friendly, knowledgeable, and great English. Also found great noodle place for lunch. Unfortunately the driver stunk very badly (body odor) and the car smelled like rotten pickles the entire long drives. I had to have window down to breath and hold my nose. Tiur operator, teach your drivers basic hygiene please.

Just amazing, a bucket list experience.

I booked two days with Nancy and it was by far the best way to see Datong. Datong is a hidden gem, with almost no western tourists. But in July / August, there are thousands of Chinese tourists. The key attractions are the Hanging Monastery and the Grottos. The Hanging Monastery is definitely a bucket list destination. Nancy was great we chatted easily all day about everything and anything. Without her the detail and context of the Monastery would have been lost. The next day, I left the itinerary completely up to her. We went 45 minutes out of town to see the forgotten sections of the Great Wall - an earth mound in a corn field. We then dropped in completely unannounced on a couple living in a cave house in the village. They were so welcoming an gave us fresh vegetables from their garden. Later we visited an abandoned military village. The amazing thing here was the tiles on the wall depicting the one child policy and the consequences of more than one. Nancy is a terrific guide and a wealth of information. I thoroughly enjoyed my two days with her, learning so much about Datong and China in general.

We had a wonderful day tour with Nancy as our guide. She is very knowledgeable and ensured also our safety, along with the driver. Nancy showed us the treasures in the Datong area, making our trip unforgettable.

Visit Datong from Beijing in 1 day is possible and worth it

Tour of Datong from Beijing, a lever that was definitely worth it! Once at the railway station we met with great punctuality our Guide, Nancy, who welcomed us to her hometown giving us information and dive deeping us in the local history. Nancy was really friendly, time passed quickly during the journey from Datong to the "Hanging Temple." It is amazing how such a structure could have been built centuries ago! Nancy told us the story of the place, the uniqueness of the temple that houses three different but equally important cults in Chinese history. At lunch, Nancy took us to a very nice place with really good food, suggesting typical meat-filled pancakes... delicious! In the afternoon we visited the "Yungang Grottoes" and at the end of the tour Nancy took us to the city center where she greeted us giving us more advice. A 100% recommended tour, thank you again Nancy and 5 stars!

Great day tour of Datong with Kevin

Our tour was led by Kevin, who spoke excellent English. He met us at our hotel, and the vehicle that was provided for our tour was comfortable and clean. Kevin's patience in explaining all the details of the Hanging Temple and Grottoes made it the tour come alive. He also helped us to take some family photos which helped make the day even more memorable. I would recommend the Datong day tour with either Nancy or Kevin.

Very informative and nice day with Sara

Did a day tour with one of the guids of Nancy, her name was Sara. Everything was organized very well. Sara knew a lot and was very happy to share all her knowledge of waht we visited. First we went to the Yungang Grottoes. After this we went to see the Hanging temples. We had some time left, so she wanted to show us another location. But we were tired and wanted to have a rest. But to offer this to us was very nice.

Great tour with a great guide :)

Nancy is a great guide, professional and friendly. She speaks fluent English, we learned lots of things about the places we visited and about the local culture that we would have missed if it wasn’t for her. Both the Hanging Temple and the Grottoes are truly worth visiting, pictures don’t really reflect how beautiful or magnificent they are. We stopped for lunch at a local restaurant (not the typical overpriced restaurant for tourists). We had a great time!! We recommend it 100% 😊

Great way to explore Datong’s unique attractions

Wonderful guided tour of Datong main attractions, both of which were spectacular and unique to see and learn about. Nancy was very friendly, spoke good English and was very thoughtful to tailor the trip to our needs. The car was also very nice and spacious. Definitely recommend!

A fantastic experience!

A fantastic experience! Nancy was wonderful, her English was excellent and the whole trip ran really smoothly and took all the stress of getting from A to B away. She met us at our hotel in Datong and dropped us at the train station after the trip. She was also really helpful in giving us other pointers for some other aspects of our travel in China. Highly recommend! Note: entrance fees to the sites aren't included in the tour cost.

Amazing Datong and Nancy Tour

We engaged Nancy for a private tour prior to travelling to China. Nancy was fantastic to deal with, she went above and beyond what we initially engaged her for. For example she assisted us with our travelling plans when we had issues with our train.She organised and paid (in the interim) for ticket changes and helped us with language translations. If you want personalised service, this is your tour

She picks you up at whatever time your arrive by train or plane. She helps you to book an hotel for hours to rest between trains. She go with you on a van sharing with maximum 9 pax and at the best times to avoid queues. Also bring the group to a cheap typical restaurant. Safer than try to find a taxi and with fluent english

Great Experience at Datong

We got a warm welcome at the airport. The tour to the hanging temple and the Yungang Grottoes was on a very comfortable transport organized. Nancy has the knowledge to answer the questions you might have about Datong and its surroundings. She is a very nice person always helpful. We learned from her that Datong is much more that just coal mines. Very nice experience

The best tour and the best tourist guide

We chose a private tour of Datong to see the hanging temples and caves of Yungang. Nancy picked us up at our hotel, very punctual and only with her smile did we know it was going to be a great day. She was attentive to us all the time, we ate in a local hot pot because we told her during the tour about our interest in trying it (a great experience and very tasty). She explains during the visits the history and the curious facts, as well as answering all our questions. As it was cold and we caught a cold, she accompanied us to a local pharmacy to buy medicines. We had a great day in good company, in wonderful places, with an excellent conversation. We recommend that if you visit Datong you contract their services, there is no better one in the city.

Nancy is fantastic and the sights are worth coming to Datong to see

We did a one-day tour with Nancy, where she drove us out to the Hanging Temple and Yungang Grottoes. Both of the places were excellent and worth visiting. The lines were a little long and overcrowded this time of year at Hanging Temple. But the best part of the trip was Nancy. She was knowledgeable, did a great job organizing the trip, and most of all, was open with us about her experiences and her life in China. I think that was what I enjoyed most about the day, was hearing about Chinese society through the eyes of a local, and getting frank answers that typically only come with trust and time. I highly recommend going to Datong and doing this tour helped us see everything we wanted in a short amount of time and to learn about the city and the region.

Amazing Private Day tour of Datong with Nancy

We did a private day tour of Datong with Nancy. We visited Yungang Grottoes, Wooden Pagoda and Hanging Monastery. Nancy took great care of us. She is very nice,friendly and professional. Her knowledge is great. Explained very well about the sites we visited. Her English is excellent. If we go to Datong again, we would hire her services. AWESOME guide! Super friendly and helpful. 10/10 recommend

As a Chinese person visiting my home country, I've never really taken any organized tours as a tourist the way I do when I visit other countries. I was a little skeptical at first, wondering if the price was worth the experience - turned out it totally was. Nancy was super friendly, as was her driver, and our exchange was full of insight, both for me and for her! They wanted to know many things about my life as a Chinese-born living abroad. The sites were amazing also; apparently many people skip Datong, which is a pity, but I think Nancy did a great job introducing me to the amazing historical sites. If you are in the area, it's 100% worth the day trip. I highly recommend.

Great tour you can't miss

We were a small group of 3 people that day. They picked us up on time in a big van with air condition. Nancy couldn't be there with us, so our tour guide was Lele. She was really nice girl in her early 30s although she looks in her early 20s. She speaks really good english, so we were asking her lots of questions about Datong life, her childhood and other things we also were interested from Shanxi and China in general. About the tour, we went first to see the grottoes then stopped for lunch and finally visited the hanging temple. I have to say after seeing pictures of the queues that Lele show to us, it was the best way to do it. She was with us inside of every place providing insightful guidance and descriptions of the places. She was also very specific in details of tour regarding to Buddhism we appreciate it that we as europeans don't know much about it. In general, I would say after visiting other places in China that the tour information provided by Lele was great to understand what we saw. You can visit these places on your own, but you aren't going to understand the reasons, history or importance of these landmarks. I would say that people that has fear of heights can have some problems to visit some parts of the hanging temple but even that you can get some nice and funny pictures. Lele also help us to arrange our transportation for our next stop in China.

Excursion to see the hanging temple and caves of Datong excellent. Sara (the Guide) made the experience

Visiting Datong with Guide is very practical. In our case Sara explained many things about each place, giving us tips of where to see better, like avoiding the queues (which in August is important) and took us to eat at a very good local place. In addition we had problems with the night train to Pingyao, which was cancelled, and Sara stayed with us to help us buy new tickets for the next day and book a hotel for the night in Datong (which was not planned).

Nancy es una guía estupenda, su nivel de inglés es muy bueno. Fue muy interesante todo lo que me contó acerca de los lugares a visitar, y ninguno de los dos sitios me defraudó. Solo tenía un día para hacer una visita y dudaba entre ir a Datong o a Xian, finalmente fui a Datong y no me arrepiento en absoluto. Fuimos a comer a un sitio de comida local y estaba todo muy rico y bien de precio. Perdí mi pasaporte aquel día, me ayudó en absolutamente todo lo que necesite para poder volver a Pekín e intentar encontrar mi pasaporte. Un día increíble con una persona de 10. Repetiría sin dudar, muy recomendable.

Nancy è una guida sensibile, attenta e molto preparata. Abbiamo passato una giornata bellissima alle grotte e poi al tempio e ci ha accompagnate a mangiare ad un ristorante tipico delizioso. Consigliamo questo tour a tutti!

La mejor experiencia en Datong

Contratamos con Nancy la excursión al templo Colgante y a las Grutas, su atención y su amabilidad fueron sobresalientes. Nos recogió en la estación del tren y nos pudimos duchar en su oficina, después fuimos al Monasterio y pudimos disfrutar de la visita con poca gente, apesar de ser domingo y verano, por la tarde fuimos a ver las grutas. Fue tan sumamente amable que pudimos descansar en su oficina hasta la hora de nuestro tren nocturno. Muchísimas gracias.

Excelente tour y excelente guía

Hicimos un tour privado con Nancy para ver el monasterio colgante y las cuevas de Yungang y salió todo perfecto. Nancy es una estupenda guía y nos preparó un día completo adaptándose a nuestros horarios de tren. Sin duda, un gran acierto.

Grande Nancy!

Abbiamo visto prima il tempio sospeso e poi gli yungang grottoes, partiti verso le 9 dal nostro ostello e rientrati a datong centro verso le 17:30. I posti valgono la pena e Nancy non solo parla bene inglese, ma spiega molte cose, soprattutto delle grotte yungang. Al ritorno Nancy e l'autista sono stati gentilissimi a fare una sosta alla stazione del bus per aiutarci a prendere i biglietti per Pechino, per poi portarci direttamente in centro dove volevamo cenare. Il vero valore aggiunto del tour per noi è stato quello di poter parlare con Nancy ed avere uno scambio libero con lei, cosa molto rara con un cinese nella nostra esperienza di 3 settimane in questo paese.

Con Nancy, un día de 10!!!

Hicimos con Nancy la excursión al templo colgante y a las grutas de Yungang en un día. Todo fue fantástico. Nancy habla un inglés excelente y realizó un trabajo estupendo como guía. Nos recogió pronto por la mañana en la estación de tren y pudimos llegar los primeros al monasterio colgante y disfrutarlo casi en soledad. Nos contó muchas historias interesantes sobre la cultura China y las diferentes medidas del gobierno. Nos llevó a comer a un sitio donde la comida estaba buenísima y muy barata.Las cuevas son totalmente espectaculares, merece mucho la pena visitar este lugar. Para finalizar, Nancy nos dejó quedarnos en su oficina hasta que saliera nuestro tren y nos hizo un regalito. Un día de 10 gracias a los maravillosos lugares que esconde China y al buenhacer de Nancy.

Absolutamente imprescindible realizar la visita con Nancy/A must see visit with Nancy

Mi mujer y yo estábamos de luna de miel en China y tras alguna experiencia cuestionable con guías llegamos a Datong en un tren nocturno a las 6:00 de la mañana. Nancy nos recogió a nosotros y a un par de parejas más de españoles y fuimos en minivan hasta la zona de visita (pues se encuentra a una hora y media de la ciudad de Datong). Nancy es una guía absolutamente excepcional: siempre atenta, predispuesta y muy profesional. Su inglés es magnífico así como su interés por conocer a los viajeros que hacen el tour con ella. Después de realizar la visita al templo colgante fuimos a realizar la visita a las cuevas de Yungyang. Ambos espacios turísticos son absolutamente imprescindible. Durante la visita, Nancy nos explicaba aspectos muy interesantes y relevantes sobre la Historia y la construcción de ambos sitios. Tras estas dos magníficas visitas, fuimos a comer a un restaurante de buena calidad y comimos las 3 parejas con ella, por lo que pudimos intercambiar impresiones sobre China y su vida cotidiana así como pasar un buen rato. La visita terminó a las 15:00 con la comida que ya he mencionado anteriormente. Habíamos reservado un hotel para pasar unas horas y descansar por la tarde antes de coger otro tren nocturno hasta la siguiente parada en nuestro viaje. Nancy nos comentó que no tenía muy buena reputación y no merecía la pena, por lo que no fuimos. Nos ofreció descansar en su oficina e incluso ducharnos en la misma. Una vez allí, pudimos seguir hablando con ella, e incluso nos presentó a su hijo y nos hizo un regalo de despedida. No pudimos sino invitar a ambos a cenar como agradecimiento. Sin ningún atisbo de duda, Nancy consiguió que la visita fuera maravillosa y nos permitió mejorar aún más nuestra visión de China y su gente, por lo que volvería a realizar la ruta sin dudarlo un instante./ My wife and I were on our honeymoon in China when we arrived to Datong after some questionable experiences with guides in China. We got there in a night train at 6:00 a.m. Nancy picked us up as well as to two more spanish couples in order to do the tour. We had to go in minivan minivan to the touristic area (located 1 hour and a half away from Datong).Nancy is a magnificient and wonderful touristic guides: always handy and helpful, proactive and very proffesional. Her english is superior as well as her interest to get to know the travelers she is working with. Afterwards visiting the hanging temple we went to visit Yungyang caves. Both places are remarkable and a must see spots in your journey. During the visit, Nancy explained us interesting facts and characteristics about the construction and History of both places. After that, we went to have lunch in a trustworthy restaurant. All of us had lunch with Nancy so we had the chance to exchange our impressions about dailylife China and had a good time together. The visit finished at 15:00 p.m. before lunch. My wife and I booked a hotel to spend several hours resting in order to take the night train to get to our next destination. . Nancy warned us about the place and she offered her office to rest and even to take a shower if we wanted¡¡ Once we got there we kept on talking with her and we even had the chance to meet her son. She made us a farewell gift so we felt we had to invite them for dinner before leaving as way to thank her for everything. Without any kind of doubt, Nancy managed to make our visit exrremely special and allowed us to improved our vision of China and its people. It was one of the best, if not the best plans in our honeymoon. I would do it again.

Muy recomendable

Encontramos referencias a la guia local Nancy de Datong, contactamos con ella para realizar la visita del templo colgante y de las cuevas, y fué todo genial. Además también contratamos con ella la visita de la Muralla en Beijing con guia en español y resultó genial. También le pedimos que nos comprara tres billetes de tren para tres recorridos, y la verdad todo muy bien organizado, le dimos una paga y señal, y el día que estuvimos en Datong le pagamos el resto. Es muy atenta y siempre dispuesta a aclarar dudas.

La mejor opción para un tour en Datong

Encontramos a Nancy aquí en TripAdvisor y decidimos arriesgarnos para hacer con ella nuestro tour en Datong, decir que nosotros llegábamos ese mismo día a las 8 de la mñn a Datong y ese mismo día por la noche volábamos para Xi An por lo que como nos fallara el plan, no tendríamos más alternativas. Llegamos a la hora prevista y allí estaba esperándonos en el aeropuerto, nos había avisado con antelación de que tenía otra pareja el mismo día y que nos hacía precio si íbamos juntos así que aceptamos y nos recogió a los 4 con una furgoneta muy cómoda con aire acondicionado. Fuimos al templo colgante (Si vas en invierno abrígate porque tuvimos hasta -10grados), después nos llegó a comer a un sitio local BUENÍSIMO y súper barato, y terminamos la excursión en las grutas de Yungang. Al final nos llevo de vuelta al aeropuerto con tiempo de sobra para coger nuestro siguiente vuelo. 100% recomendable y de fiar.
