Padi Discover Scuba Diving (Costa Maya)

Excellent for a beginner diver.

Best scuba I ve done. Now only been a few times. But instructors were very kind and showed us a lot of marine life that we probably wouldn’t have seen if it wasn’t for him.

Great Trip

Brenda and Rodrigo were excellent. I am already certified, but my wife is not so we signed up for the beginning scuba so she could get a taste of diving and I could dive with her. Well when we arrived I learned that instead of taking the beginning class again they allowed me to dive with another group while she went through the instruction portion of the class. I was rusty because I haven’t dove in about a year and half, but Brenda was great. My wife had a great time with the class and enjoyed the experience. I will definitely dive with this outfit again next time I’m in Costa Maya.

First class operation

First class operator. The weather was questionable for a first dive experience and they allowed us to cancel. Would definitely book with them again.

Amazing Experience

What an amazing experience…..especially for inexperienced divers. David and Brenda were phenomenal and made us feel comfortable the entire time. We had an on-shore class, then went into waste deep waters to practice, then went out to the dive site. We were under for about 45 minutes and saw beautiful fish, coral, rays, and morel eels. The weather was partly sunny but the water below was crystal clear. Highly recommended for anyone who isn’t certified! (They also had dives for certified divers and snorkeling trips too) I can’t say enough about these amazing folks!!!!!

Wonderful scuba experience!

Gala and Brenda were great! Gala spent some good time with instruction, then equally with the first round in shallow water. This was only our 2nd time and I struggled my first time, so she ensured this experience would be great and it was. We saw a stingray, lobsters in a hidden cave and other fish. Pineapple pieces after was an Nice way to end our excursion.

Beautiful reef, safe and informative instructor

Amazing experience - patient and safe. Great for beginner or a refresher. Beautiful reef in wonderful condition. My husband was not certified and I am but it has been a few years so wanted a refresher. She was able to both guide and teach him while pointing out interesting sea life to me.

Experienced team who will look after you.

We did the discover diving course as we had never been diving before, the team really looked after us and felt it was really worth the money. I'm very happy I tried it for the first time here with patient trainers. Me and my boyfriend went, and a family of three who had diving experience. Me and my boyfriend did panic and needed a break/extra support and they listened and took us down separately so we could learn in a pressure free environment. We did manage to get down to the sea bed which we were really happy with. We only saw a few fish but that's only because we spent almost the entire time just learning how to use the equipment and go down comfortably (it did take us longer as we got scared a few times), but the family with us saw manta rays and loads of fish etc and also seemed to have a wonderful time. If I was ever back in Mexico I would definitely use this company and highly recommend them. It was my birthday and they gave us complementary GoPro photos which was nice of them :) thanks guys. The discover course was 3 hours, an hour dive and the rest of the time learning in the center and practicing in the shallows before going out in the boat.

Best Diving Outfit Ever

Where to start??? I’m certified with advance Open water and Nitrox. My wife wanted to get into diving since it’s my hobby. Lucia and the crew were amazing and patient with my wife during the Discovery Dive. Although my wife passed the initial training she only got as far as off the boat to dive. She realized she couldn’t and they helped her back on. I still dove and it was spectacular. The crater we dove in was full of fish of all sorts. I’ve dove all over the world and this crew is by far the best I’ve ever had the pleasure diving with. I hope to be back soon. Thank y’all!!!!

Great diving spot and guides

The diving and instruction were fabulous, with two guides for four people. Coupled with a low price, this was a great deal. This was the second Discover class my adult son and I have taken. Some enormous coral, and we saw a clown fish. Manta rays are in the area, but we did not see any this time. The beach we started from was the closest to the ship port, about a mile away and you can see the ship, making a great photo. The only thing amiss was the toilet facilities owned by the beach bar.

Great experience!

We had an amazing experience! Gala, Lucia, and David were always attentive and very friendly. We speak Spanish but had no issues understanding the guide’s English as well. The group was another couple, myself and teen daughter. After some instruction and familiarity with our gear we spent time in shallow water to work on basic skills with Gala. She was excellent, very knowledgeable and very patient. Everyone seemed comfortable on the dive without issue. We saw a ray, an eel, lion fish and other fish. We hope to come back every time we’re in Majahual!

amazing dive with professionals

Husband and daughter had an amazing time diving! The instructors were really knowledgeable, the diving spots were beautiful, and we all felt super safe the whole time. I was able to come along on the boat and snorkel at the top while waiting for them. Seeing the marine life and feeling so peaceful underwater was really special. We highly recommend booking this experience!

Perfect dive in costa maya

This was such a great dive and the team was incredible! I’m not a super experienced diver and this was a perfect dive the less experienced and most experienced divers. Gala and Pau were very helpful and lead two incredible dives off the reef in costa maya. Highly recommended and I will definitely be returning in the near future.

So Fun!

Incredible experience! Quick taxi from the port. Everyone extremely patient and helpful during. We plan to return during our next cruise through the area. I attended with my teenage daughter and we had a wonderful time.

Great intro for my teenage son

Great first experience for my son that I have wanted to get into diving. I have been certified for years. We did this as an excursion during a Carnival cruise. Went very well, had great staff, and even rented their GoPro to get some great first pics and videos of my son entering the diving world. Great Beach Vibes and laid back attitude, did all practice training right on the beach before loading into the boat and doing a nice easy dive.

Would not recommend discovery for non-Spanish speakers

We are a family of 5, my husband and I are certified. Kids are 18, 15, and 12. 1 of three kids made it to the bottom. The other two struggled to understand instructions. Staff was very friendly and dive master’s English was hard to understand.

Great time with an awesome crew

David and the crew were really friendly and showed a lot of attention to make sure we were safe and had a lot of fun. The dive shop was collocated with a restaurant and just a few hundred feet from the shore where we learned the basics before taking the boat out to a reef for the main dive. The water was crystal clear and we saw tons of small fish. The crew managed all the gear for us and provided fresh pineapple after we finished the dive which was amazing!!

Not PADI

If you’re going to add to your PADI hours, this isn’t the place for you. This is the normal “Mexican certified”, watched a video. My husband and son enjoyed their time. They said they were in the water for abt an hour, I expected the time to be longer.

Discover Dive

Me and wife did the discover dive, I am certified but she is not, Alejandro was great he worked one on one to help my wife to feel comfortable in the water. We watched a video and then suited up and when right out in the water to practice. Then we took a boat out to the reef and dived, Alejandro went over and beyond to make our experience great! We where on a cruise when we book this had a great time. Hope you will to.

Diving for the first time is something that changes your life. The confidence transmitted to us by Emiliano and José Luis was essential to make this a wonderful experience. If you have doubts about trying it, I recommend starting with a snorkeling tour. It will help you realize your capabilities, and it's very likely that you will be encouraged to continue! After this experience, I want to come back every time I have vacation!

Top notch dive center

What a great experience! I’ve been a certified SCUBA diver for 30 years, the problem is I haven’t actually dove for 30 years and my wife has never done it. Problem solved with this excursion from our cruise ship. I got a bit of a refresher and she got the basic instruction needed to do her first dive. The instructor was awesome! Very patient and understanding. She made what started out to be a nerve racking experience for my wife into a great time! She loved it!

Unbelievably great experience!! It had been 20+ years since I last dove and my son and his friend (age 14) had never been diving. Instructor (name: Emiliano) was excellent, fantastic with the kids, well prepared, great instructor, appropriate concern and attention to safety, very experienced diver. The reef and diving experience was unreal, beautiful, and never more than about 30 feet. Highly recommend, short trip from cruise port, this is great for first-timers, and for those looking for a 'refresher' this is perfect. The kids loved it! Would definitely do again.

Class dive in Mahahual

Incredible dive experience! I’ve dived all over now and this place was right up there, amazing reefs - saw Eagle rays and turtles! Mar adentro were great, very flexible and easy to sort things out with. My guide, Alejandro, was class. Real cool guy who is very diligent on safety but also knows how to lead a fun dive. Completely recommend these guys, best value in Mahahual.

Do yourself a favor and book with Viator!

I booked this Costa Maya MX excursion several weeks before my MSC cruise. Unfortunately the day we were to port the ship was unable to make port due to 48+ knot winds. We were pretty unhappy about missing our excursion as this was what we were looking forward to the very most with our cruise experience. Imagine my surprise when sitting at the table that night in the MDR another couple friend of ours had taken the time to look up info on our missed excursion and everyone at the table heard that we'd "booked with the best excursion company/website they'd seen in 10 years of cruising" He told us that we would receive a refund (which I pretty much had resigned myself that I'd lost out on the cost of this excursion due to the ship not porting) and to my utter happiness and surprise I saw a refund email sent by Viator that very evening and had my refund hit my credit card less than 2 days later. I can't tell you how much I appreciated the exceptional customer service I received through Mar Adentro Diving and Viator. I will never book an excursion on future cruises without Viator. The peace of mind alone is totally worth it - none of us can control the weather, that's just part of the cruising experience. Do yourself a favor and book with Viator!

Better than booking directly through our cruise line!

I went on my first cruise with my and three kids in December. We really wanted to go diving, but the diving tours through our cruise line were fully booked. I have heard mixed reviews on booking outside the cruise line, from frequent cruisers, so I was a little nervous on taking a chance. I am so glad I took the chance and booked the tour! The tour guide (I don't remember his name, he was from France) was super friendly and patient with any and all questions we had, and made us feel at ease through the entire experience. If you're on the fence on whether or not you should book through your cruise line, this tour is safe, worth the money, and will get you back to the dock in time (they even called a taxi for us back to the port). Just make sure when you're booking the tour the time of your tour matches the time your ship is in port and you will be fine. Defiantly recommend this tour!!!

wonderful experiance

i had not been diving in over 10 yrs. and took this as a refresher course. the instructor Mino was wonderful giving myself and the other student instructions from putting masks on to how we would enter and exit the water. He told us about the dive site and what to expect to see. It was a wonderful experiance. Next time im in Mahahula again I would definitely love to dive with this shop again!!

Excellent!

Both of my son’s first time. After very good classroom instruction, you demonstrate skills in water then it’s go out on a very short boat ride to the reef. There was a line to use to go down and up.

Great diving experience with Diego! My son of eleven made his first dive! It was beautiful: beautiful coral and many (small) colorful fishes. We even saw a turtle. I would recommended to go with Diego and his team! We felt very safe.

Amazing diving experience & great instructors!

Amazing diving experience and great instructors. For first time divers both me and my 10 year old son were very nervous but Anatole & Lorenzo did a fabulous job in getting us comfortable with the equipment. Once in the sea we got a little scared but again both of them made us very comfortable and provided the gentle nudge (very fine line between pushing and guiding) to go under the surface and explore the amazing sea life. The dive site was fantastic and we were able to see a lot of fish, parrot fish, trumpet fish, sea turtle to name a few. I would definitely visit Mar Adentro Diving in my next visit.

Great place to Learn SCUBA

I did the Discover scuba-diving course with my two children aged 14 and 12. The instructors were fluent in English and took the time to explain what would happen and ensure they were happy with all the basic skills. The equipment was in good condition and the dive site was amazing. Two instructors came out with three divers to ensure that everything went well. One diver had a problem equalising and they took time to ensure that everything was safe. I would definitely return to complete a full PADI course.

We came for a Discover Scuba Diving session and it was amazing!! The team is super professional and took very good care of us from start to finish. Our instructor Daniela was super nice and helped us ease our anxiety for diving, she was very patient, professional and took her time guiding us through the process. The marine life was beautiful! We saw lots of corals, parrotfish, barracudas and even a sting ray! Would recommend this diving shop 100%! very good vibes and it’s obvious these people love what they’re doing and want to share it with others. Thank you thank you thank you!! ❤️

Good dive with experienced teacher!!

Really good service by Oscar and all the very professional and helpful staff of Mar Adentro during scuba discover dive practice and actual dive. My son did his first dive and I, with some more experience, was refreshing my diving skills and sharing the experience. Strong recommendation!

A fantastic experience. I have snorkeled a lot but have never scuba dived. It was very well done. I felt very safe the entire time. The staff took extra care to make sure I was comfortable with diving. I was apprehensive before I arrived but had no fears once I went through the training. Highly recommend this group no matter your diving experience.

The perfect introduction to scuba diving- you’ll be hooked!

I had an amazing time at Mar Adentro. There was a couple in my class as well. We had DMIT Yarguay (forgive me I don’t recall exactly how to spell it!) Our instructor Daniela was fabulous. I was a little nervous but they were so kind and thorough in answering all of our questions. As we were diving, Daniela pointed out so many sights, including fish, crab, shrimp, coral, anemone and more. I’ve already booked another cruise for next you and I hope to visit Costa Maya again to dive with Mar Adentro.

One of the best experiences of our lives!

Our instructor was so patient with my mom! He was very helpful and the experience was so much more than I expected! My 12 and 14 year old sons said this was their favorite thing they have ever done in their lives!! I would highly recommend with or without kids!

PADI Open Water Diver Course

My girlfriend and I visited Mar Adentro Diving in Mahahual to obtain our Open Water Diver PADI certifications. Both Óscar and Anatole were very thorough and professional as instructors. They explained every concept from the PADI manual patiently and with great detail and later aided us in learning and practicing all the required maneuvers both in confined and deep water bodies. They led us through our first immersions as SCUBA divers, through different sites of the beautiful Mesoamerican Reef. All seriousness aside, the instructors and the rest of the staff (Monica, Lorena, José, Noé A.K.A "El Capi") were all very happy people with a positive attitude, from the first day they made us feel at home. Not only are we now PADI certified, but Mahahual and Mar Adentro have a special place in our hearts, and we will return.

Superb diving with Leo and his team, we were entitled to wise advice. We were in a small group, he took the time to explain and feel comfortable with professionals.
