I booked a 2 tank dive through TripAdvisor because my cruise ship did not offer any diving excursions at the port of Costa Maya I certainly did not regret it it was my fourth dive in 4 days and probably my favorite one of all we Dove Cozumel Roatan and Belize and then Costa Maya I booked a personal job master Lucas from Argentina and he was awesome truly truly enjoyed diving with him everyone on the staff was helpful professional and fun couldn't recommend this group any higher We are booking another cruise and we will be back and dive with them again

A Fantastic Dive Experience in Costa Maya

As a veteran SCUBA diver, I place a premium on dive operations that have their "stuff" together. There's nothing that worries me more than an operator that seems to be flying by the seat of their pants-- or doesn't seem too concerned with the 5 newbie divers they just unleashed into 15 meters of water over a delicate coral reef. Carlos is the opposite of that.... he was incredibly focused on proper procedures, kept a sharp eye out for less-experienced divers (and kept them from being over the reef), and provided the right level of guidance and critter-hunting that you'd expect from a great DiveMaster. As an older, Advanced Open Water diver, he checked in on me regularly, but left me on a bit of a longer leash than some of the rest of the group -- which I appreciated. I really can't recommend this shop and their services highly enough. Beyond all that, the service was excellent -- of course, they loaded everything on the boat and set up my equipment -- but they also freshwater rinsed everything so that I didn't have to deal with it back on my cruise ship. Great service, great attitude, and great attention to detail. If you're cruising to Costa Maya, you'll need to take a 7-8 minute cab ride from the cruise port to get to the shop-- but it was safe and pleasant to do so.

Great diving

I love the environment here. We have been diving with these guys before and are never disappointed. We arrive in off of a cruise ship. We bring our own gear. It's a $12 cab fare from the port.

Dr Dive loves certified divers—Jennings Family Vacation 2024

Dr Dive and his team of divers, boat tenders, and staff were a joy to be with and they made our port day in Costa Maya our favorite day of our vacation. We did two dives with Dr Dive. The first was a drift dive along a beautiful reef highlighted by a 2-minute visit from a curious turtle. Our second dive was at “40 Canyons” and we loved every second of the dive. Dr Dive maintains a highly skilled team of divers and we felt safe at every stage of our dives. We will be back!!!

Definitely a worth a repeat. Great staff

Doctor Dive's staff was very friendly and very professional. They made sure the the equipment fit and carried it out to the boat for you. I have dove over 150 times and I have never had a better dive master. He made sure, we saw everything that was hanging around the reef big and small. The only down side for my trip was getting a taxi from the cruise port, the drivers did not want to take a single. I ended up sharing a ride with two other people going in the same direction. The taxi ride was only $5. When I come back I will make sure I use them for diving.

Hidden gem

This shop was awesome to dive with. Very professional and extremely pleasant, It's been a couple weeks since I dove with them and can't stop thinking about wanting to go back! I found the general area to be a hidden gem, I hope the cruise traffic doesn't mess it up. My wife and I did come from a cruise and booked the dive ourselves. Right from the very moment we walked into the shop we felt genuinely welcome. The feeling never changed from shop to dive. There was plenty of sea life with a nice reef. Our favorite part of the dive was the huge turtles! I wish I could remember the shop owners name as well as the dive master. Thanks for a wonder experience and amazing memories!!

Dream Dive

I walked into the shop and was greeted by name. I was the only solo diver but it made me feel important. Antonio the dive master was amazing and patient with someone figuring out weight in salt water for the first time. The the dive area was a local reef with a max dive of 60 feet. Our second dive was amazing. My fellow diver and I have renamed the dive site to Manatee. Thank you so much for an amazing dive

Returning Diver, a great experience, great for cruise ship excursion

I have RETURNED!!! I dove with Doctor Dive last year, had such a wonderful time that I returned yet again! I can say nothing has changed, Charlie is excellent with e-mails and communication and he took good care of me. I was reunited with the same Divemaster (Lucy) and Captain (Rambo) I had the year before. Lucy set up my gear, did the safety brief and away we went. I had opted to get their video service again, and she didn't disappoint. The reefs and wildlife were vibrant and I had a wonderful time. Upon returning Lucy rinsed off my gear. Once again I had a wonderful time and I will dive with them should I ever be in Costa Maya again. They are ideal for divers on a cruise ship, when you first talk to Charlie let him know you are on a cruise ship. Both times I had more than enough time to do two dives and make it back with ample time to spare. When you disembark the ship, it is a long walk to the taxi stands, it took me about 15 - 20 minutes. The pier is long and then you have to work your way through a maze of shops and restaurants. I would recommend to hold off buying anything until you return. Once you make it to the taxi stand, it takes about 10-15 mins to get to the dive shop and it cost $8 one way. Make sure you bring small bills because the drivers may not be able to give you change. When you first arrive you're in a small neighborhood and you will think that the driver brought you to the wrong place but be at ease, as soon as you turn that corner, the beach is there! There are places to lounge and there are also restaurants and bars available.

Definitely Dive with Doctor Dive

I just got back from a Royal Caribbean cruise where I dove with Doctor Dive during our stop in Costa Maya. I couldn't wait to leave a glowing review. Charlie and the whole Doctor Dive crew were amazing to work with. Communication via email and WhatsApp were extremely prompt and Charlie was fantastic to work with. He smoothly dealt with me when I messed up some of my timing for the day forgetting that ship time and local time were different, and also easily navigated my buddy not diving that day because of some ear issues. Unfortunately because of being a bit tired myself and wanting to spend some extra time on the beach with my family, I was only able to do one out of my two scheduled dives but it was awesome! Lucas the divemaster was fantastic and led a great dive. The whole team was so accommodating and got your gear out to the boat and set up. It was fantastic just to jump on the boat and head out. They are perfect for cruise ship divers. If I'm back in Costa Maya I will definitely be diving with Doctor Dive again. I can't imagine there's a better shop in port.

Excellent Dive Trip!

My wife and I went on a two tank dive with Doctor Dive and we highly recommend this shop. We were diving from a cruise so we had a schedule to keep. Unfortunately, our port schedule was changed so we contacted the shop. We were told “no problem” and they were scheduling a different trip schedule to accommodate others with similar issues. We showed up at the shop and were immediately greeted by name, even though they had never met us in person. We loaded onto the boat and went for our first dive, which was amazing. Between dives, we went back to the shop for our surface interval and some snacks and drinks. We loaded back onto the boat and headed out on our second dive where we saw turtles, moray eels and more. Then, back to the shop where the staff quickly helped us to get a taxi back to the port. I would 100% recommend Doctor Dive for anyone looking for a dive trip in Costa Maya.

OF OUR 3 DIVES ON OUR CRUISE, THIS COMPANY WAS THE BEST

My husband booked this dive center for a 2-tank dive specifically because they supported divers coming from the cruise ships (which we were). We took a taxi from the cruise terminal to the dive shop, and there was a line of taxi’s for our return back in front of the hotel catty-corner to the dive shop. DM Charlie assisted us in both dives. He and his crew took our equipment (we brought our own) and set it up for us for both dives because the actual boat ride is only about 5 minutes. Charlie is very methodical and insists that everyone follow his prompts, which we could tell helped to lesson the anxiety that the other divers on the trip were having. Divers do a backroll off both sides of the boat, and then the boat captain pulls forward. Once the divers are together and have given their “OK’s”, we all descended together. The dives are anywhere from 50-70 feet. Charlie works hard to show us all kinds of marine life, and really did help us to celebrate our 100th dive. The boat returns to the dock after the first dive to switch out tanks and to take on divers for the next dive. We had cantaloupe and small muffins waiting for us during our wait. Charlie and his crew took our equipment off the boat and even assisted us in rinsing things off. Of the 3 dives that we did on our cruise, this company was the best experience. We plan to use Doctor Dive again when we return to Costa Maya.

Best Dive Operator in Costa Maya

Great bunch of folks to dive with. Came in on a cruise and had contacted several dive shops prior to leaving home. These guys were the only ones to respond and they did right away. Very friendly folks. Top notch! Although I brought my own equipment, theirs looked to be very good. Their boats are set up nicely for diving. The DM’s know what they are doing. Cesar guided me. Very keen eye toward the little stuff. This area of Yucatán rates in the top 10 of any place I have dove. And I’ve been to a few places in my 50 years of diving. Lots of canyons and swim throughs. Good coral. No bleaching or hurricane damage like some places to the north. All a 5-10min boat ride from shore. I have got to figure a way back and spend a week diving there. If you have a non-diving spouse, this area offers a lot of nice beach setups for them to hang out at. Loads of shops and restaurants close by. Highly recommend Doctor Dive!!

First timers welcome!

Diving the reefs is an experience you will not forget! The divemaster was very knowledgeable and the food was great. We had plenty of time to dive and get back to the port to return to the cruise ship.

BEST Dive Team you could ever want!

My husband and I were doing a cruise that stopped in Costa Maya so as divers of course we looked for the very best dive shop in town and came across all the amazing reviews from fellow divers and booked with Charlie at Doctor Dive. He was great from the very first email, very responsive and helpful. Through diving at other ports you meet fellow divers who I let them know about Doctor Dive so we also had a few others sign up. The day we arrive into port, the wind was strong, the waves were large and the visibility, well - we will just say you can see the potential of the reef but was it was poor. Charlie and Tony were excellent as we were still up for going. We felt totally safe and still saw some fantastic sites. Would definitely recommend and hope to go back on a better day. After the dive I was so impressed by the guys, rinsing and cleaning all our gear, shampooing our suits and hanging up to dry. This was such a blessing as it was our last day diving so we finished drying well on our balcony and packed it all up. I'm very thankful to Doctor Dive for making the best out of an odd situation and it turned out to be an enjoyable day.

Great dive in Costa Maya with professional divemasters

We had a very good boat dive experience at Doctor Dive in Costa Maya (Mahahual). We arrived at Doctor Dive from the cruise terminal and Cesar, Yusi and Antonio helped us prepare and get in our gear. There was a short trip out to the dive site by boat and we received a very professional briefing. The dive was enjoyable and we stayed down for a view of eels, sea turtles and many varieties of fish. They separated divers into two groups with a separate group for less experienced divers which helped maximize our dive time. The snack in between could have been a little better and while the guide said soft drinks and snacks what was presented was a pitcher of water and a cinnamon roll and melon. The second dive was also very well done and we found the Divemaster’s to be excellent. Be advised they were not taking credit cards while we were there so please have cash available for equipment rental.

Amazing Group to Dive with!

We went out with these guys January 17. I can’t say enough good about them. Seas were pretty rough that day but we still made our dive and had an amazing time. The guides were attentive to everyone. They got our attention to show us different marine life that was around. My boyfriend is an air hog and after the first dive we came back and had a nice snack but they got him a bigger tank so he could stay down longer. I would highly recommend them. Charlie and his divemasters were great! We will definitely be back!

This was a fun and relaxing experience. The dive shop was comfortable and well stocked. The dive masters and other staff were knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. The dive sites were beautiful.

Awesome dive and awesome crew. The dive and scene ray were phenomenal. I highly recommend this group as they were very experienced. I had some first times: entering the water by tumbling backwards, exiting the water without a rope/anchor. It was great and everyone was outstanding. Highly recommended.

Doc Dive is great despite rough weather

Went to Costa Maya on RC ship. Taxi to YaYa Beach Club next to Doc Dive and trip back to ship we’re all easy w/o problems. We brought all our own dive gear and they took good care of it. Antonio was our DM and was great to dive with and very safety oriented and showed us lots of interesting reef critters. Doc Dive was good to work with and I recommend them for diving. My only disappointments were that it was very windy, boat was really getting thrown around and wind had all the sediment kicked up so visibility was 30 to 50 ft. The reefs also looked a bit rough. Some algae covered dead coral and some live coral. Sponges were generally okay but some were also sick w/some white blotches. Not the best selection of fish either but we did see several species of angel fish that were the largest I had ever seen. Doc Dive did the best they could with less than optimal diving conditions.

Great day in Costa Maya

My family if 5 spent the day with Charlie and Cesar. My 17 ye old and I did a 2-tank dive. My 21 yr old, 12 yr old and wife did the snorkeling. Charlie was very patient and accommodating as we were a little late arriving to his shop. (Costa Maya port is a little tricky navigating out of). Spent morning doing dives and then had some time for lunch at Ya Ya beach which was fantastic. Cabs are easy to get to and from the port and you are about 10 minutes from port. Taxi was $4 per person.

My husband and I were lucky enough to do a private 2 tank dive with Charlie 2 days ago. We’ve been diving all around the world, but I have to say, this was the best reef dive we’ve ever done. The coral is so healthy and the animals are so diverse. You can tell the guides ( especially Charlie ) truly care about the reef and want you to have an amazing experience. Start to finish a wonderful time!! Book with them, you will not be disappointed. I’d give them 10 stars if I could!!!

Mahahual diving experience with Doctor Dive Cost Center

It was a great experience to dive through this operator in Banco Chinchorro ( In 2 sites: Coral Negro & Jardines) very nice reefs with special corals. We had a very good guide, Cesar🙏🏻 We also dove in Mahahual with the same operator and it was amazing: 2 beautiful sites: Escalones and Faro Viejo. The corals ware very healthy and full of marine life. Our guide Charly was very professional so we felt in good hands. Charly was so enthusiastic showing us as much as he could in this 2 dives in Mahahual. We would like to say thank you to all the other staff people in Doctor Dive Center: Antonio and the skippers. Doctor Dive, the Place to dive in Costa Maya

In the early steps of researching a dive shop in Puerto Costa Maya I was exchanging e-mails with Charlie. Charlie was very personable and he took the time to answer al my questions and explain everything in detail. Communication with Charlie was on point. When the big day had arrived, I had the pleasure of meeting Charlie who paired me up with a Divemaster for the day, Lucy. Lucy was so much fun to be around and she took excellent care of me as we dived various sites. I had also requested their photo and video package and Lucy did an excellent job of documenting both my dives. Everyone loves the video she made along with the pictures she took. The staff was very personable and friendly, other divers came in and chatted with me and they were very welcoming. I arrived in Costa Maya as part of a Royal Caribbean tour. It was very easy to get a taxi from the cruise port to the dive shop. The dive shop is very neat and clean and is on the perfect location on the beach. At the end of my dive, Lucy had rinsed off my gear and when I was ready to leave, Charlie hailed a taxi for me. The drive from the port to the shop is about 10 min and as of Sept 2022, it cost $8 one way. That being said, make sure you have change for the cab. Doctor Dive is a professional, friendly shop, I highly recommend it if you're in Costa Maya and I'm already ready to plan a return trip to them!

AMAZING!!

Greetings from norwegian divers! Really amazing experience! As a new sertified diver, the divemaster made me feel safe, was patient, and showed us a lot of cool stuff, we even got to see dolphins and a shark! Really recomend this place!

Spectacular, Worth it, and Friendly.

I was very pleased, Charlie was very friendly and made it a great time. Both dives were awesome, much better than expected. We saw 8 large Sea turtles, and loads of life, growth, etc. Reefs action was awesome; we saw a large moray eel too. Well Recomended! We were on a Royal Caribbean ship, we booked this dive seperately from ship, again very pleased.

Diving as it should be ...

Excellent staff, great divers and customer care. I have been diving for many years and I can say that the team at Dr. Dive do a great job. Not only the people who get in the water with you but the boat crew as well. I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone looking at diving. Disclaimer... I did not dive in Feb 2022 but last dive with Dr Dive Feb 2020... I have enjoyed ~ 12 dives with this company. Charlie and the entire team are top shelf in all aspects of customer care, enjoyment and knowledge of all the dive sites.

Great dive

The shop was easy to find and the staff was friendly and helpful. Charlie was a great dive master. He took a lot of time to point out various sea life. I never felt rushed. Nice sized dive group. I will be using them again in April.

Diving in Costa Maya. Do not hesitate DIVE WITH DR. DIVE

OUTSTANDING DIVE SHIP. DO NOT LET THE SMALL APPEARANCE OF THIS DIVE SHOP STOP YOU FROM DIVING WITH THEM. Sorry it has taken me a few weeks to post this. I recommend Dr. Dive 1000%. I had a two tank dive in December 20 21 and then back again in January 2022 so in total had 4 dives in a 4 week time span. Luis (hope I spelled it correctly) was the dive master on all 4 dives. He is SUPER. Very informative about the upcoming dives and keeps the pace of the dive slow so that you conserve energy and air which is a big plus for me. Now here is another service that sets them apart. In December I was a dumb S-it and left my cell phone in their office. I contacted Charlie via email and confirmed that she had the phone. I set up an account with Fedex to ship the phone to me in Florida. Fedex does not regularly visit Mahahual so Charlie arranged to have my phone taken to a larger town and have Fedex ship the phone. I got the phone about a week after I left it in their shop. They went above and beyond to get my phone back to me. THANKS CHARLIE AND DR. DIVE . When in Costa Maya I will ALWAYS DIVE WITH DR. DIVE.

Awesome week diving with Dr Dive

My wife and I enjoyed a wonderful week in Mahahual and much of that week was spent diving with Dr Dive. We did nine dives over five days, we only planned for six. The diving was great with really nice coral formations to explore. Super relaxing easy dives with little in the way of currents. Our guide Tony was second to none. It was obvious he enjoys diving and sharing the local reef with visitors. Tony and all the staff were top notch, they were attentive to all the divers needs every trip, safety was taken seriously and our personal dive equipment was cared for each day. We could not ask for more from a Scuba shop. It's location was perfect, in the center of it all in Mahahual. We stayed next door at Hotel El Caballo Blanco which worked out perfect, roll out of bed, a quick breakfast then onto the boat. Next time we visit we will be diving again with Dr Dive. Cheers guys, thanks for the good times!

Dr. Dive Is Tops

Dove with this dive op in Mid December, 2021.. Crew was very professional. Set up our gear and took down and rinsed everything upon completion. Very safety conscious. Pace of dive was perfect. Had a group of six with two dive guides. Two divers got low on air at the 30 minute mark and second dive guide took them up. Four of us stayed down for an average 52-53 minutes. Reefs were in very good shape. Visibility 50 ft +/-. Boat was very comfortable. Highly recommend this dive shop. Truly a wonderful experience.

Dr. Dive delivers an amazing experience while cruising to Costa Maya

When the cruise ship wouldn’t let us book a 2-tank dive excursion through them because it had been two years since we last had dived, we booked our own dive through Dr. Dive. Their communication with us was amazing giving us detailed instructions on getting to them via a short taxi ride. Once there we were greeted by pleasant staff. Since it had been a while since our last dive we paid for our own private dive master. Charlie was amazing as were the other members of the staff on the boat. We had an incredible two tank reef dive where we saw Turtles, lobsters, teeny tiny creatures and beautiful colorful fish. The town of Mahahaul where they’re located is a fun beach town so we stayed there to have lunch rather than the village next to the cruise ship. I highly recommend Dr. Dive if you ever cruise to Costa Maya it go there for an extended vacation.

The dive shop to use in Costa Maya

Stopped in Costa Maya on a port day on the carnival pride having set up the dive the week before . Easy cab ride from the port to the dive shop . Arrived and found out that I was the only diver scheduled but dive master Charlie was waiting for me and out we went . It was like I hired a private guide with treatment I received .Both dive sites were awesome with plenty to see including a enormous eagle ray , fresh fruit between dives and a easy cab ride back to the ship . Overall quite a pleasant day with no stress of not getting back to ship on time .I will do this again Charlie and dive shop staff are excellent .

Great Cruise ship dive at Costa Maya

Great dive shop. We got to Costa Maya on the Carnival Pride and took a taxi (5 minutes) to the dive shop. We had a great time on a cool coral reef just a 10 minute boat ride. Our Dive master was great. Highly recommended as a Cruise ship dive.

Great time diving with Doctor Dive in Costa Maya from a cruise ship. Easy taxi to/from the port and an excellent dive shop. Charlie was very helpful with quick email responses and directions. Excellent equipment, good job by the boat Captain and really good job by Antonio our dive master. All our needs were taken care of and the dives were safe and fun. Antonio gave great briefs and was very alert and attentive with his divers. I highly recommend Doctor Dive for any cruise ship or other diving experience!

Very good diving experience ! We had two dives with Charlie. He is very nice, funny and totally pro. He knows very well the caribeans sea and showed us many things (tortles, mantas, nurse-shark...). Funniest and safest trip you can have!

All the team was friendly, professional and knowledgeable. The tour to Banco Chinchorro was an awesome experience! I felt super safe and the guides Antonio and Lucia were awesome. The food for the trip was also delicious and they were vegetarian-friendly! Really recommend Diving with Doctor Dive.

Amazing Scuba Experience in Mahahual

As always, our experience with Dr Drive was excellent! Charly, Tony, Lucas and everyone else provided an amazing service and made everyone in our group feel safe and have an excellent scuba experience. We had a large group with varied skills and went through a combination of Discovery dives, 2 tank dives and some of us got through the certification as well. For any diver

Had such a great time! Lucas was a great dive master. We both had open water dive certifications prior to diving. One diver was a beginner diver and the other was intermediate and it was fun for both of us. The dive shop was clean and had good equipment. The employees of the shop were also fantastic to do business with. Would definitely recommend!!

Excellent 2 tank dive

Our extended group of 8 had a fantastic time with Doctor Dive. We love that the dive sites are so close to the shore and enjoyed the expertise of the Divemasters. One of the best company's to dive with anywhere.

Love Doctor Dive and the dive sites

With each new dive experience with Doctor Dive, I can honestly say it never missing my expectations. The shop is well organized , has good equipment , great dive boat and most importantly a great staff team. It is obvious that they want to please their guests, everyone you encounter is knowledgeable, courteous and hard working. The Mahahual sites really are on par with Cozumel, that is saying much. Don't hesitate to book with Doctor Dive, you will not be disappointed.

One of the best dive shops in the Caribbean

I have been diving for decades and a favorite place to dive is in a town in Mexico called Mahahual. Over the past 11 years i drop in to see my friend Charlie (the manager of the shop) and his team of highly qualified dive masters and boat captins. The dives are alway great. Although they are a "dive shop" they offer snorkeling as well. The town of Mahahual is charming and the locals are great. After a dive i would highly suggest taking a little time and stoping by Yaya a bar right beside the dive shop for a beverage and shaing the memories of your dive. Mahahual is south of Tulum and a 2 1/2 drive but if you love a low key environment and great diving this place is for you...

Very profesional and take care of you!

I am openwater and I didnt dived since 2 years and we were with 2 girls who didnt dived since a long time too. Charlie and the other instructor went with us and split the group in 2 to take a good care of us and they were so attentive I felt super safe and the 2 dives were amazing! Moreover they take time to show you all the stuff they can. I recommand totally, they are very pro !

Probably some of the best diving ever. Dive Master Charlie was great. Safety was their top priority. And the girl in the office was awesome also. Definitely will be returning soon.

I had 2 great dives there with Doctor Dive in Costa maya on February 7th 2020, they are very professional the dive shop is very nice it's in very nice area right on the beach with lots of other shops around a restaurant/bar next door. they have all the gear you may need to rent and it's in excellent shape. My dive guide was Juan Jose he did an amazing job on both dives showed me lots of sea life and not just the usual stuff you see he was finding the small creatures that you have to really look hard for, we also did some amazing swim throughs. In all I had 2 great dives with them and would definitely would go back and dive with them again.
