Very educational and interesting walking tour of Mylapore

My daughter and I took this walking tour and really enjoyed it. Mr. Jainath, our guide, was very sincere in his desire to make sure we saw and experienced the highlights of each of the sites. He ascertained our interests and then fine-tuned the tour to suit our interests. Even though I know Chennai pretty well, I found the tour very interesting and educational. I highly recommend it!

Best guide in India we have met (and most guides were really good)

Mylapore Cultural tour - very easy and informative

I took a Mylapore Cultural walking tour with Satish - instructions to meet were clear and easy and Satish met me on time / early. The tour was well structured and we visited all of the main temple sites / churches in the Mylapore area - each with its own distinct character / style which was interesting to see. Satish was very knowledge about the sites plus the area in general and gave lots of tidbits and pointers for the sites and Chennai generally. Overall a really good experience and a great way to get around the Mylapore backstreets safely and easily.

Fantastic and Friendly

This tour was fabulous! Hareesh was very knowledgeable and engaging and it felt like a philosophical journey with a close friend! Thoroughly enjoyed the sights, stories, and company as well as the insight into traditions/practices/meaning.

Great tour with lots of religions details

Kannan was an excellent guide. He provided a lot of details about the different religions in India. He explained well all the aspects of the temples.

What a great introduction to Chennai

What a great tour. Kannan was a super guide giving us excellent depth of information on the sights we visited. He took us into the temples and monuments to give us a real feeling of how the devotees enjoy their time there. Smashing coconuts was very much fun. 100% recommend Kannan and the team who looked after us from airport pickup, fab tour and dropped us at our accommodation. They even helped us change our hotel to find a better location.

Brilliant experience

The tour was absolutely amazing. Such an experience to see different religions coexisting and thriving in the same area of Chennai. Kannan was so knowledgeable and gave a real insight into the diversity that makes India such a special place. One of the best things we did on our trip.

Interesting

This was an excellent tour. I have been to Chennai many times but never on a tour. I didn’t know what to expect but Satish was excellent - very informative and interesting. There was a lot to see and he covered everything so well.

Excellent window into different religions and thinking.

We had excellent communication from the company before the tour. On the day, we met Hareesh and spent the next three hours learning about (and experiencing) local architecture, history and religion. Hareesh was extremely knowledgeable and shared his own experiences with us, as well as helping us navigate the complex and fascinating temples. His English is great. I learnt about the relationship between Hindus and the planet Saturn, the role of the huge body of water next to the Kapaleeshwar Temple, that there are only three sites globally holding the remains of the apostles. Remember to wear comfortable shoes that are easy to slip on and off as you can't wear them in the temples, and make sure shoulders and knees are covered. It's also worth noting that photography isn't allowed inside any of the religious buildings. If you have the time, take a tuktuk to Mylapore. It was really worth it.

It was an amazing and immsersive tour. We got to experience the city, its culture and different religions. Hareesh was the best tour guide, super friendly and knowledgable!

Amazing temples, colorful walking tour of the Centre around the temple, and the guide was super informative and helpful! He helped us find out more about Indian culture, was discrete and did not rush us at all! Highly recommended!

I perfect day in Chennai!

This tour was a fantastic way to see Chennai. Kannan is very knowledgeable and taught me so much about the sites that we saw. Even though it is a walking tour, there is a driver to take you from place to place, walking takes place around the areas that you are visiting. I highly recommend this tour to see the sights in Chennai. I also did the Mysore Kingdom tour the day before this tour, it was a perfect combination to see inside and outside of Chennai. Wherever I travel, I will look to see if a 5 Senses Tours is available!

An absolute must if you are visiting Chennai. Our guide Srikrishnan was so informed and charming, he brought to life our tour and most importantly left us wanting more! We only had one day in Chennai, as we were just passing through - I cannot recommend this enough to get a sense of the foundations of the culture and history of Chennai and the south of India.

First time in Chennai

What an amazing tour! Went with husband and 2 kids (18 and 20) with Kannan and driver Anand Babu for a magical 4 hours of stories and the history, culture and customs of the sites on this itinerary. We learned so much - and much more than I could through a guide book. Highly recommended!

Brilliant tour !

Had an amazing tour with our incredibly knowledgable guide Kannan. Absolutely brilliant and the best way to see Chennai’s temples. Our driver Anand Babu was also a wonderful drive which is helpful on the roads of Chennai !

Walking tour of Chennai temples

Excellent tour, well organised and full of interesting facts. We visited 3 temples and one church. The guide Kannan was very hospital and took us for a coffee. Highly recommend this tour.

Great tour

Mr. Hareesh accompanied us on the tour, he explained very well and guided us. We were able to see the ramakrishna mutt, kapaleeswar temple, jain temple and st. Thomas cathedral. It was a great experience.

Far beyond the expectation

The tour was very interesting. Kannan was very knowledgeable and available to reply all sort of questions. We had similar tour in the past, in other cities, but he was one of the best ever. He did not limit the explanations to basics and he also explained anedocts difficult to find in books. We also appreciated the extra coffe experience

A great tour with an amazing guide !

This was my first experience with a guided tour anywhere in the world. I have to say that it was an amazing experience. I can thoroughly recommend ‘5 senses tours’ from initial booking to the day of tour, it was a simple and clear process, but it was my guide Nivi who clinched the deal for me ! She was always professional and very empathetic. She has a knack of understanding what you want out of this tour and has a huge amount of knowledge about her subject. She guides you with a personal passion for the various temples, churches and prayer areas and is respectful and understanding with a good sense of humour too !

Perfect short tour

Very nice short toir! My guide Nivi was great! It’s a perfect trip to take if you have a few hours in the morning in the afternoon. Definitely recommend.

Went on this tour with Kannan Phenomenal. I really really enjoyed it beyond words. He was a great tour guide, very patient and knowledgeable, extremely accommodating and i cannot recommend this tour enough. He went out of his way to ensure I had all my questions answered and took a detour to show me some landmarks. If you have 1 day in chennai, take this tour it will certainly make your visit worthwhile.

Excellent way to spend a morning!

I was lucky enough to take this tour a couple weeks ago and it was fantastic! My tour guide Kannan was excellent - knowledgeable, personable, and overall a great person to walk around with. As a solo traveler in Chennai on business, it was the perfect trip to help me see a little bit of the city and the culture.

A beautiful memory!

This was my first visit to Chennai and I stayed at the Trident Chennai for 2 nights. I checked in for one night after flying in from Boston, US. I was on my way to Trichy for a wedding at the temple town of Kumbakonam. After having had a long flight from Boston, Trident provided me the perfect night's rest. I checked in again for a night on my way back from Trichy. During both occasions, I found my room to be cosy and relaxing. My trip was rushed but they have all the amenities required for a pleasant stay. The establishment has a beautiful Spa, gym and pool. I wished I could have stayed longer to use their gym and Spa. The Concierge at the hotel gave me some great recommendations for touring the town. The employees at Trident Chennai go above and beyond to make their guests comfortable. They were courteous and most hospitable. I tried the food at both their restaurants Cinnamon and Samudra. I personally liked the food at Cinnamon since they had variety, both traditional South Indian cuisine as well as Moghlai cuisine. Thank you to everybody at Trident hotel who made my first visit to Chennai the most beautiful dream of an experience. I did spent sometime doing a few things, visited the LIOA art gallery and some shopping around the area. I found using the Uber service the most convenient during my outings.

Wonderful walking tour in historic Mylapore

I enjoyed this tour; Mylapore God Tour very much. My guide, Kannon was so knowledgeable and made the tour so interesting, incorporating the background to the different religions but with many details on architecture and even flowers and trees. I also enjoyed seeing the Mylapore area by foot. Enjoyed a wonderful coffee and sweet treats. I highly recommend this tour.

Perfect tour if you want to learn about indian ways of life

The tour is great luckily i went there on weekend so the temple was full of people and there are many amazing cultural things to observe.

A must-do while in Chennai

I had the pleasure to spend the morning with Hareesh, my tour guide, who, honestly, made my day! He was able to explain very abstract and philosophical topics in an easy-going and interesting way. I could really immerse myself in the hindu religion and learn so much. Throughout the tour, you are also able to pass by different religions (Jainism, Christianity, Hindu, Sri Krishnama’s religion etc), which makes the tour even more special. I would definitely recommend this while in Chennai!

Great way to understand Chennai’s religious background

Absolutely amazing tour! If you only have a few hours available in Chennai this tour is a great way to see the diversity in Indian religious background and how that influences the culture. Ganesh (yes, like the god 😁), my guide, was fantastic. Very knowledgeable, courteous and accommodating. Even accepted to take me to the airport at the end of the tour instead of back to the hotel, which saved me time and allowed me to enjoy the tour better 😁

The tour with Ganesh was quick but exactly what I needed, as I did not have much time. He was friendly and explained me everything that I asked so I could have an idea about the local culture.

Wonderful Walk through Historic Mylapore

My husband and I truly enjoyed our walking tour of these wonderful sites in Mylapore with Niv. The sights were beautiful and Niv provided insights we would not have been able to gain on our own. The Jain temple was extraordinary with the silver inside. You can’t even enter this temple without a guide.

Temple/ Church Tour through Chennai

It was so amazing, our guide did a good job. The best thing of the tour was throwing the coconut! We Had the evening tour starting at 4:30pm, and with the sun going down we got amazing light fornphotos. Would highly recommend

Great glimpse into several religious houses in Mylapore

The walking element made the tour feel very engaging and immersive. Our tour guide, Abijoshua was very knowledgeable and was able to answer any additional questions we had. The trip pace was also very good- enough information but we never were at a single location for too long. Tip: As a reminder, avoid wearing shorts for the temples (although some accommodations were available for our group) and I recommend supportive sandals, as the tour requires shoes to be taken off in most stops.

Nivi is a fantastic guide to the diverse spiritual scene of old Chennai

Nivi was a fantastic guide - very knowledgeable plus the fact that she was born and raised in Chennai added to the sense of local immersion. The title of the tour is very appropriate- it was a whirlwind tour of the local spiritual scene. My favorite part of the tour was the rare opportunity to enter the local Jain temple and (respectfully) witness the worship.

Best tour guide and tour operator in Chennai! Look no further

I can't say enough good things about this tour! Our guide, Kannan, was extremely educated about all of the temples, intricacies of religions, and history related to all of the sites that we visited. He was patient in answering the MANY questions that my wife and I had, and never made us feel rushed at any of the sites we visited. Sometimes on a tour, you feel as if guides are inventing information - this was NOT the case with Kannan. He was an excellent cultural ambassador for India and Indian culture, and helped us to understand not just the focus of the tour (temples, religion, etc.), but many facets of Indian culture, as this was our first time visiting. Although not included in the tour, Kannan made sure that we were able to stop somewhere to get something to eat when we grabbed the coffee included in the tour, as we did not have time for breakfast. While walking, he showed the utmost care for our safety, and even had other suggestions for what we should do in Chennai. He realized we were leaving to Delhi the next day without seeing a major site, and was even able to organize and lead a private tour for us later that day to Mahabalipuram! Look no further for any other tour operator - you've found the best!

Our first time in Chennai

This tour exceeded my expectations. Our guide was incredibly informed about each temple, he explained everything, and we didn't feel rushed at all. He answered all our questions and was passionate about what he was talking about, which in turn made us enjoy everything much more. Also, the coffee was amazing.
