Memorable tour of medieval Carcassonne

Our guide, Julian, was prompt, friendly and very knowledgeable about Carcassonne. As we toured the grounds and the cathedral, Julian gave a very engaging lecture on the history of the city, and included many interesting anecdotes. It was a fascinating hour and a half!

Fabulous Guide and Tour in Beautiful Area of France

In 2022, I took a private solo tour with Julien regarding the defenses of the Fortress of Carcassonne. He was a wonderful guide so when I decided in the Spring of 2024 to spend a little over a week in Cather Country, I contacted Julien and we worked together on an itinerary which included many of the small towns, fortresses, chateaus in the area of Carcassonne, Toulouse, Narbonne and the Pyrennes near Perpignan. Out of the 8 days I was in the area, Julien took me for 4 full day tours. It was a wonderful tour. He is so knowledgeable and personable. I learned so much about the area. A tour is really the way to go as it is a difficult area to find these gems in the countryside like Lastours, Queribus, etc. We went to so many historic sights, and saw magnificent views. Our itinerary included Frontfroide Abbey, Lagrasse village and abbey, Albi, the Toulouse-Latrec museum, Cordes Sur Ciel, Renness le Chateau and Collioure. Each one more interesting and more beautiful than the other. Or at least it seemed that way! The countryside is amazing and it was wonderful to be with someone so familiar with the cities and countryside and learn the history of the area as you are riding from place to place and then of course a detailed commentary of the destinations. I highly recommend Julien for a tour whether it is for an hour or multi day. He is a great tour companion and I had a really good time and learned a lot.

A fun and informative tour. We never caught the name of our guide and he was excellent. He shared a lot of details of the design and operation of the citadel as a defense system. Also shared regional factual history and tales. Well worth the time and money.

Fun and educational

Our guide was on time to the meeting point and began with a history of the citadel as well as some entertaining tales. He showed us the details of the fortification and defense features and led us through parts we would not normally have found. His passion for the history of the castle was contagious

Interesting, amusing, and without being overbearing, educational

Couldn't praise this tour highly enough. My only real problem is that I have been so long in posting a review! Anna proved to be a knowledgeable guide, well versed in the history of Carassonne, and fluent in English. Would definitely visit the region again.

Fun History and Legends about the City

Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and entertaining. He focused on the history of Carcassonne and added in some interesting legends. If you like history and medieval stuff, this is the tour for you.

A five star guide for a five star destination

Our best guided tour out of the five we had on this holiday! Julien is a knowledgeable and engaging guide - good at facts and detail but also little stories to keep younger and less interested visitors engaged! Carcasonne is a beautiful town but you need a guide like Julien to fully appreciate it, would go again!

Great tour with a great guide

We met with Julien in front of the entrance de la cité where we started listening to the tale of how Carcassonne got its name. Not going to spoil it here. Anyway, Julien continued to tell the stories around the city's history and architecture lively adding fun facts and a smile. History of Carcassone

Julian was wonderful; we missed our bus and he waited for us. We learned so much about the Cathars which is fascinating. He is an excellent story teller. He brought history alive for us.

Visite privée passionnante et humoristique

Visite vraiment privée, nous étions uniquement notre famille de 6, loin de la foule, des commerces de la cité et du tourisme, mêlant histoire et humour distillé par Julien. On ne voit pas le temps passer en s’empreignant de l’histoire et des légendes du sites. Voir des vielles pierres c’est bien, les comprendre c’est mieux. Merci beaucoup pour ce bon moment

Totalmente recomendable conocer la historia de Carcassone, de una manera muy entendible y con anecdotas muy curiosas. Nuestro guia Julian muy buen guia que le pone mucho empeño y se nota q le gusta su trabajo e intenta transmitir sus conocimientos d una forma muy amena...totalmente recomendable. +++ Activité à recommander sans attendre +++ Visite très privée au cœur de la Cité sous un magnifique soleil. Julien connaît son sujet sur le bout des doigts et vous entraîne 700 ans en arrière. Vous êtes désormais un grand chevalier! L'endroit est sublime, les récits vous feront vivre comme à l'époque d'un temps finalement pas si lointain.
