Grand Egyptian Museum

Soft Opening, but worth the visit

ewe booked this tour with Emo Travel. They picked us up from the hotel in Cairo and drove us to the GEM. Once there you have your ticket vouchers for the entry and guided tour. We visited the Tut Experience, is not historical, just a good video production. But the main thing is the Main Staircase, that takes you to different sections of life during the Pharaohs lives. Every thing is original, and at the end of the staircase you have a beautiful view of the Pyramids. They are adding new sections that you can visit. But even for the main hallway its worth the $15 a ticket. NOTE: they do not allow cameras, but you can take pictures with your phones.

Awesome experience

Visited with Egypt to go tours , the museum is amazing and more is opening all the time, we had the immersive Tutankhamen experience and it was awesome , so realistic you felt you were back in time. Although it is not fully open a visit is Definitely recommended

New museum not ready for visitors

The Grand Egyptian Museum was newly opened and included in my private tour itinerary. The museum itself was huge and impressive. Interesting architecture and designs encapsulating the concepts and nuisances of ancient Egyptian culture and designs. The collection was dismay. Only the exhibition on the steps in the main lobby was available. The layout and display was dangerous as many artifacts were placed on the edge of steps, and visitors could easily fall while looking at them. The special show was not amazing. The technology was surprisingly not the latest and the contents were weak. I was expecting a strong story on King Tut but it was more like a visual display for kids. Perhaps the museum will be better in a few years when more exhibits are added and the show improved.

The actual tour had no english speaking tour driver; the car had no air condition. The actual tour was apart of the bought ticket, that could have been bought on site or online. The company had to be reminded that water and snacks were to be provided, during the drive to and from the site. There was no information provided, during the drive, about the history of anything.

Not worth your time and money during the trial stage

Currently in it’s trial phase - absolute waste of money. The immersive experience is simply a 30min animated video that tells you nothing about the life of Tutankhamen. Sure the building is beautiful - but it should be free to enter at the moment given there is nearly nothing on display. They are throwing in a guided tour for free - but they are infrequent and we didn’t want to wait an hour given it takes less than that to see the number of items on display. Not worth the money or time at this point. So very disappointed.

Absolutely gorgeous museum

Beautiful museum. Lobby and Grand staircase are gorgeous. So much history. When it fully opens, this will be one of the best museums in the world.

Fantastic museum, not complete ready yet but for what we have seen, it was great and I will certainly return here when its finished complete.

Not open yet. Only a small part accessible. Tutankhamun show was okay. The museum’s architecture is amazing. Exhibits currently good.

Disappointment at Grand Egyptian Museum

Nothing is open yet and is a collosal waste of money. Check carefully what has been opened before going.

Highly recommended- Not fully operational yet worth a visit

Despite the Grand Egyptian Museum not being officially opened, my visit was truly impressive. The limited yet remarkable collection showcased impressive statues. The entire experience, took less than 3 hours including the Tutankhamun exhibit. While the content of Tutankhamun exhibit could be more informative, I appreciated its accessibility for all ages. The museum stands out as the best I've ever visited, with an impressive display of artifacts. Special thanks to our outstanding tour guide, Nour, who made the visit informative and fun. The museum also features many stores with Egyptian brands like Okhtein, Nounies, Dolaro, and popular chains like Starbucks and Zooba. Lastly, the diversified gift shop is a must-visit. Even in its current state, the museum left a lasting impression, promising an even more incredible experience once fully operational. Highly recommended overall!

Awesome experience and people.

The trial tour at the museum was amazing . We were lucky to have Mark our tour guide . He was fun, knowledgeable and gave us a great experience. I cant imagine how beautiful the museum will be when its fully operational. Every little detail is amazingly thought through. We also participated in the discovery challenge . While we has onky 30 min to finish it was just so much fun . I highly recommend going there even for the trial tour . I will certainly go again and plan to spend a few days or longer to visit the museum when it opens. Special shout out to Mark and everyone at the information desk. They were all very friendly and knowledgeable. Thank you !

Still on trial phase, not worth visiting!

Not worth visiting & super disappointing! Fee per adt is EGP 1K (with or w/o a guide). There wasn't an English speaker guide, not even with a tour headphones -- no language options. Nothing much to see but very few statues. Could have been better even GEM is on its "trial" phase.

Great tour guide

We are so glad we visited the grand museum although it’s not fully open it was still an amazing experience. Our driver Abdul was very kind and knowledgable. Once we got to the grand museum we was greeted by our tour guide. He was kind, and funny. Has a lot of knowledge and was one of the best tour guides we have had. He also did a fun game at the end which he asked a question and I won! It was a nice touch to the end of the tour! - we also bumped into him again at a different tour and he remembered us! (wish I had remembered his name) but thank you so much!

Masterpiece!!

The GEM is only open for introduction tours at this point! So glad we had the opportunity to get even a small glimpse of what is to come!! Upon arrival the outside architecture is gorgeous! It is very close to the pyramids. It’s an open air entrance—brilliant idea! We were presented with a headset and guide who went over details and a few of the large statues of the museum! She was fantastic and super knowledgable!! The gift shop purchases are 100% egyptian made. Their is a hall of local restaurants—beautiful design! Also has a Starbucks!! Haha! Had to throw that in there! The museum is enormous—great detail was thought out, especially with this stairway that has statues placed on the stairs and at the top is a large widow with pyramid seen thru it! Truly amazing piece of art—-so glad I got the chance to visit !!

Demo tour review

Although the GEM is not completely open yet, still the available tour is very good. i enjoyed the architecture and the monuments available on the tour, our guide was Dina AlDahaby, very knowledgeable and informative presentation. good presentation skills keep people engaged, and she speaks both English and Spanish. as far as i noticed the building considers accessibility aspects as well.

Don’t do this. This man Mohamed is a fraud!

This is the worst experience we had. The tour operator never contacted us after booking non refundable trip. Somehow he sneaky changed the description of the tour after my complain, but we were supposed to have an English speaking guide, I had to chase tour operator Mohamed who only contacted the morning of the tour. I had to contact viator via WhatsApp, then sent a car half an hour late, then found out no tour guide when we arrived at the museum . We were then told to use the guide at the museum. We had no idea. Then there were no English speaking guide at the time. The car he sent was so dirty and old. This was the most expensive tour we did. We could have spent $100 AUD and an uber but paid $180 AUD FOR NOTHING! Such unscrupulous operator! SHAME ON YOU VIATOR HAVING THIS ON YOUR ITINERARY!!

Do not come until it’s official finished, and do not bring Egyptian currency.

Solid one star when you can not pay in Egyptian pound. Simply can not believe this is the Egyptian museum that sits on Egyptian soil and no Egyptian pound is accepted. Whoever set this rule should be shameful for. Nothing is open but you pay a 1000 EGP entrance fee for the guided tour of ground floor.

Don’t use this Mohamed! He will rip you off!

You can just buy the entrance tickets for 100 AUD and get an Uber This guy Mohamed sold us non refundable ticket for $180 AUD and sent us a car falling apart and no prior contact re pick up details like other guides. This was the most expensive expensive tour and the least service! Complete rip off!!!

A no go

We were so disappointed to not be able to see the new museum since it was still not open. The old museum was very dated but at least artifacts weren't in transit.

Not open yet. The visit only allows you to see the main entrance foyer. A few nice cafes are open. No exhibits at all

Absolutely gorgeous project. When finished it will be really worth the visit. Right now - nothing is open. They charge a ticket fee to just enter the premises. You can see a few sculptures and the main foyer.

Even though not open yet, still worth the visit

I had been to the museum of antiquities in Egypt 9 years ago and thought it was great. This building is an architectural masterpiece! It will be an amazing place once it opens with all the pieces showcased in such a magnificent building. There were very few people here and I am not sure how my tour company got me an early admission to it. The gift shop is very nice with quality items for sale. The floating obelisk outside the main building is very cool although it was cordoned off and we could not very close. There are a series of small pyramid areas in the ground on the way to the museum with water flowing over them. This represents the water of the nile and a nod to the pyramids. Once this officially opens in a word...wow.

A must see museum. Worth the time. Excellent facilities. Still not officially opened but was worth the visit. I will definitely visit again once fully operating.

Visit to the grand Egyptian museum

Although the museum has not operated yet but my daughter and me had a very interesting tour in English to the museum. The tour guide is so smart that she could use the time of the tour explaining the museum itself and some pieces in exhibition . She held a very intelligent interactive conversation among the group I think her name was Dina El dahbi Thanks are due to all the Management very polite and kind people Moh Eldeib The Netherlands

The GEM

A wonderful trip that I will remember for many years to come!! However, you should check the museum's official website before visiting for ticket information, prices, and any online booking options. Early mornings are less busy than weekends or afternoons. Familiarize yourself with the museum's policies regarding photography and recording. Some exhibits might have restrictions, and flash photography may not be allowed in some areas. The Grand Egyptian Museum takes security seriously. So, please follow any instructions given by the museum staff.

Good but issues with transport

Visiting the Grand Museum was excellent and well worth the time and cost. However, the transport was very poor, hence the two stars. The car arrived 30 minutes late so we did not arrive for our 12.00 slot until 12.40…!! It was also very small, dirty and had not a/c which in temperatures touching 35c was no good.

Wait till it's open!

While I enjoyed the visit it should be made much clearer this is only access to foyer and forecourt. The GEM exhibits are not open or available so it is a bit misleading.

Not worth your Life.

1. Speedy, white-knuckle car ride through the city of Cairo. 2. English not spoken; poorly understood; called several times to verify the name of the hotel. 3. Driver arrived 15 minutes late (tour was for 1 PM; driver arrived 1 :15 PM. 4. Tour guide was not provided; we were left off with no instructions as to where to go. Tour guide was finally identified as a Museum employee, not an employee of the Tour company recommended by Viator.

Avoid.

The driver was kind but non English speaking. Had to use Google translate. It's better to directly book your tickets and use an uber.

See a new Egyptian marvel before everybody else!

Be aware that this tour examines the G.E.M itself and some of the extraordinary engineering involved in its construction and what it WILL house. At the moment there are extremely limited objects for display and photography is extremely limited. Until such time as the contents of the Cairo Egyptian Museum is transferred across you will want to go there for artefacts. Once you know this then you have the correct expectations. Of course this tour grants you bragging rights that you get to see the G.E.M before it is open to the public!

Mohamed is a awesome tour guide. I really enjoyed having him as a guide. I could understand his English very well.

The explanation by the researcher is good.

The explanation of the museum was very good because the person in charge was a knowledgeable researcher. Hotel pick-up was also included, which was a relief. The ticket is required for admission to the museum and theater, so don't forget to download it in advance! The taxi driver from the outbound trip was waiting for us in the parking lot for the return trip. It's a good idea to check this in advance as well.

Wonderful

It's close to the pyramids and we took an Uber. We bought the ticket online. On the date we went, an immersive Tutakamon exhibition and a tour in English on the ground floor of the museum were available with detailed explanations about the works and installations. Everything is very beautiful! There are shops, restaurants, coffee shops and ice cream parlors on the ground floor too.
