Good Cairo street food experience

Guide Raafat has a contagious smile and took me around town and sampled local food, juice, Egyptian tea from Cairo back ally eateries and food stands while mingle with the local folks. This is not for you if you are interested in hotel air-conditioned restaurant setting. Local guide would probe for shopping interests which is understandable. Raafat does listen and was flexible and accommodating to my interest.

Food Tour was interesting and we enjoyed our tour with our guide Beshoy who showed us local Cairo and try local oriental food .we walk in Cairo and saw all street and local life , we sit in code shop and drink Egyptian tea with mint , my friend even tried to smoke shesha , was fun , we tried 4 toys of local food , we were just as impactful as food itself

Great backroad food tour of Giza

Moaz showed us the back roads of Giza on our food tour. We felt safe and looked after and met some wonderful and friendly locals as we shared in traditional Egyptian food. We had a fabulous evening.

Cool tour in Cairo/Giza

Moaz was a fun guy to chat with! Incredibly kind guy, we enjoyed our 3 hours with him. He also expertly handled the madness that is driving in Egypt. We enjoyed each of the stops on the tour. Food wise, Koshary was an unexpected surprise. Very tasty combo of ingredients that you wouldn’t expect to be Egyptian staples. Chicken Schwarma was way more involved than what we eat in the states (as you can guess, way more in it here). We enjoyed seeing the streets of Giza/Cairo too. The Papyrus store stop was actually quite interesting and we liked it. They ask you directly if you want to buy something. We were told going in it was not a pressured sales pitch. That was accurate. They ask, politely say no thank you if you don’t want to buy. Very easy and not awkward at all. They get it. I think food tours end up being funnest way to see a slice of life in a foreign city. This was no exception. Total chaos on the streets, having a local resident to navigate makes it doable. We walked his street and saw his bread shop, meat store, grain/pasta place, etc. But be warned, it’s like any ancient city (Rome, etc) street. It is equal parts for driving, parking, walking, sitting in a chair, total chaos. Seemingly no rules. Book this tour, it’s a fun way to see the city and eat the real Egyptian cuisine.

Fantastic Cairo Food Tour.

A fantastic tour with Eslam to many local cafes and eateries to enjoy real Egyptian quisine. We saw so much of Cairo and were also taken to out of the way vendors including Egyptian Cotton, authentic papyrus factory, aromatherapy shop and a fabulous jewellery shop. All in all, a great trip. Highly recommend it and ask for Eslam!

Food tour

Moaz Ashraf is really nice. He showed us around his neighborhood and where he grew up. He even bought us desserts which he didn't have to. Really appreciate his time around and thank you.

A wonderful introduction to Cairo with an excellent guide, Eslam.

Eslam was out tour guide for the Cairo Food Tour, and he did a great job—explaining the history of the food he provided as well as the complicated rules surrounding traffic, horn honking, and pedestrians crossing the street. We went to Ild Cairo and back to New Cairo trying several different types of Egyptian food, and at one point we sat in a cafe on a roadside table and watched the bustling traffic and passersby. It was a wonderful introduction to the city, and Eslam did a great job.

A Local Food Tour in Cairo

We started our day with a food tour (found on Viator) led by Ahmed. The whole experience was terrific! Pickup at our hotel was smooth and on time. Our guide’s vehicle was clean and comfortable and he was both knowledgeable and friendly (and a great driver in the chaos that is Cairo traffic). We ate three really delicious meals - nothing fancy or touristy - just ordinary food that people here like - so good! Between meals we visited a few shops including one specializing in tea snd spices that was fascinating. The food plus the pyramids in the background and the calls to Friday prayers really set the scene. Highly recommend!

Great way to see/experience the city!

Very enjoyable trip! Karam was excellent and very knowledgeable about the food, culture, and city. Would recommend as a fun way to explore Cairo!

Good Food Tour plus other stops

Was greeted by Karam, very friendly and knowledgeable guide throughout the whole tour. Tried some very good Egyptian food, drinks and desserts. Also had some unexpected stops at an Egyptian perfume factory and was offered other stops but politely declined as we’d been to many already. Heads up: Be warned most of the tour is via car with multiple as opposed to walking. Still had an enjoyable time with Karam and would recommend

Feel and being the local Egyptian lives!

Tour guide: Tamer san was great instruction and he suggested us a very great plan during the tour with well English communication :) The local foods and cafe for tea time were all good and experienced about how the local Egyptian people eat and live. We felt deeply about their daily life and the authentic culture. The store selections were all written im Arabic so we cannot go there by ourselves LOL Being with Tamer was very strong support! Also we rode on Felucca boat for relaxation time and it was amazing time for us to heal our fatigue during Cairo trip:D I highly recommend this tour!

Egyptian Cairo Food Tour

Very comfortable tour

This was a solo tour. Really enjoyed the papyrus museum. Lots of great information. Food was good. Moaz was a great driver. Very respectful and made sure I was always comfortable.

Your Trip, Your Pace

Eslam was so nice and accommodating. We have a 6yo and he never rushed us and always worked with our pace. The food was excellent and it was a nice balance of tour guide and giving us our space to enjoy as a family. Would recommend him again!

Great time

Seeing other parts of Egypt and sampling food. Also, being able to take a walk around the neighborhood after we had tea just to see normal life.

Wonderful time

I think my favorite experience was having Eslam as a tour guide. He was friendly and very knowledgeable. I had a good time seeing the nile river, drinking the local tea and food. I would definitely recommend Eslam as a tour guide.

Food was okay, not much of a tour

I booked this very last minute after several other food tours were cancelled, and they managed to organize the tour anyways even though it was the middle of Ramadan. That was very much appreciated. The spots felt pretty local but the tour aspect was pretty disappointing. The guide barely spoke the entire time and was mostly just on his phone. The actual food was okay and I wouldnt have found these places on my own, but usually on a food tour I would expect there to be some walking and explanation of the food and local culture. Instead, the guide just left me in the car and brought back some takeout. The guide specifically asked for a 5 star review at the end. Pretty disappointing for how much the tour costs.

Great night out!

I had a great time on the food tour. Moaz knows Giza really well. I had the best falafel I've ever had and a bunch of other great dishes. Giza is hard to get around in and I could have never had a night like this without local expertise. Excellent!

Experience it for yourself

Highly recommend Assem who kept us as safe as possible in traffic and showed us the local charm of Giza and Egyptian delicacies. If you want to take a peek off the beaten path, take this tour.

Local life and eats

Had a great, authentic experience touring Giza food locales and area with our local guide Moaz. He took us to local favorites he would frequent and shops as well. There was no pressure to buy ( but we did!) Had an enjoyable time at the end of the tour drinking mint tea in a local tea shop and watching the very interesting world go by.

This was such a nice addition to our trip itinerary. Our guide Assem went out of his way to tailor the experience the way we wanted it, and we all truly felt we got to embrace authentic Cairo with this tour. Our guide was very easy to communicate with and plans were easy to arrange. Would definitely recommend adding this to your plans if you are planning a trip to Egypt.

No one knows the best places to eat like a local person. Go with an empty stomach because the guide will share all his favorites and you don’t want to miss a taste. Assem even had a small to go treat for us. This tour is a must !!

Felucca ride and food exploration

Also a private felucca ride at sunset . Went to local neighbor and ate like an Egyptian. Food was good and being outside of the tourist area was fun and very interesting. Our guide/driver Kamal was extremely helpful. He was prompt.

SCAM. Beware.

This is a scam. At first, it appears to be what is expected. We were picked up at the hotel, taken to the first stop and had koshery. All downhill from there. Taken to a papyrus store, were you need to bargain hard to avoid being ripped off, then taken to a place selling fake essential oils. It was obviously fake as they smoked cigarettes inside the store. At this point we were feeling duped as we'd been on the "tour" for a couple of hours and had eaten one tiny dish. So we insisted on no more shopping and were taken to a wedding venue to have some grilled chicken. We decided to cut our losses and made an excuse to end the tour so we could go and get dinner. How sad is that? I messaged the owner and told him how dissatisfied we were and his response was just arrogant denial. Don't waste your time and money on this scam. You can bet they are getting kickback for taking us to these stores.

An authentic local food experience!

I had a wonderful experience on the food tour with Assem, who graciously shared his knowledge and insights into Egyptian culture with me. Assem took me through his neighbourhood to experience local food. The falafel was the best I've ever eaten! I also enjoyed koshari, one of Egypt's national dishes. In between meals, there were opportunities to shop perfume/oils shop, papyrus prints, and Egyptian cotton products. Overall a worthwhile tour - highly recommended! Ask for Assem to be your guide and he will show you a slice of local life in Cairo and Giza.

My friend & I booked a...

My friend & I booked a noon food tour with Ahmed. He was at the pick up location early, waiting for us. After welcoming us to Egypt, he described the tour he had planned for us, and off we went! We went to different local restaurants, and tried multiple dishes, sugar cane drinks. In between Ahmed brought us to a perfumery, papyrus makers and a local bazaar. Ahmed was always with us, always telling us about Egypt, the places we were and about the food we were trying. The food was delish, but after 20 hours of flying we regretfully opted out of the tea. I highly recommend Ahmed and his food tour. His sense of humor and great laugh made it a fun, informative and delicious tour.

Great experience for first night in Cairo

What an amazing tour for our first night in Cairo. Assem was an excellent host - provided history with humor and adapted the tour to what we liked. Koahary was my highlight. SO delicious! It went beyond just food and we learned how papyrus is made and tested essential oils. Thank you Assem for welcoming us to your country.

Local Giza experience

If you want to experience what the local eat and do in Giza, this is for you! I was surprised that I was the only one in the tour but I am not complaining because I got our tour Assem undivided attention. He took me to try out the local cruisine and experienced the teahouse culture.

Delish Cairo/Giza Food Tour!

We are two travelers from Nashville, Tennessee. We found our tour on Trip Advisor: "Food Tour in Local Cairo Life with Egyptian tea:. When we checked on this tour, several tour options were displayed. We chose Choice 3 that included local hotel pick up and driver. This was not a walking food tour but one where our guide took us in his car from place to place. We weren’t sure what to expect and we were very happy with the tour. Viator tours contacted us shortly after booking via What's App and our guide also contacted us to confirm details and pick up and drop off location. We were picked up in Cairo from a hotel where we had visited following the tour of the Egyptian Museum. Our guide, Capoot, was delightful. He drove us through the 24-7 nonstop traffic of Cairo toward Giza. We were staying at the Marriott Mena House in Giza so a perfect locale for a quick trip home after we were filled to the brim. The guide might choose restaurants based on the guest’s location. The drive to Giza was enlightening and our guide expertly maneuvered us through CRAZY traffic with no rules of the road observed by the drivers. The drive was part of the fun. Our first stop was to enjoy a traditional Korshary pasta dish. The restaurant was clean and the food delicious. More than we expected for the two of us and we had to hold back so we would have room for the additional stops. We didn’t want to offend, but the quantity was substantial. The next stop was at Restaurant Gad for sharwarmer. YUM! Our first time with this dish and we really enjoyed it. We had no idea what to expect as we had not chosen a neighborhood food walking tour such as we had experienced previously in Paris. Next, we stopped along a street while our guide ran inside the Foul and Falafel Restaurant and came back with two bags, each with two different “sandwiches” in them. One we called the green burger. We have no recall of what they were but they were both tasty. We couldn’t begin to finish off both of the sandwiches. Our next stop was at Pharaoh’s Coffee Shop. We sat at sidewalk tables but noticed dominos games in the restaurant. Moments later our guide was teaching us a new version of dominos and we played 7 or 8 games. We will remember our guide, Cavoot, and the rounds of dominos (and great coffees with milk), forever. Other beverages were also offered. The next stop was our favorite savory of the evening. I believe it was a Syrian restaurant. Anas Al Demeshky in Haram - Mohafzet El Giza. We had chicken shawarma in the backseat of the car. This was our last food stop so we begged our guide to split one item between the two of us as we had no more room to eat more food. Delicious! To finish off the tour we stopped for a Sugarcane juice. I believe the café was called Fargaly. Delish. We loved the sweetness capping off the evening. Following, our guide dropped us off at our nearby hotel. A great evening. Our guide was very enthusiastic and willing to modify anything. We enjoyed his company for the evening. [the pics are not in order and some of the restaurants and/or foods might not be identified correctly].

So much good food!

Our only regret is that we did not take this tour on the first day we arrived in Cairo. It was a great primer in the basic foods of the city. Capoo, our driver and guide, was an excellent host. He picked us up promptly at the appointed time, and drove us safely through the crazy Cairo traffic. When there was "takeaway" food, he would allow us to sit in the car while he went and got it. We started off with a brief lesson about the basics of Cairo cuisine. We ate comfort food, fast food, street food, tea, coffee, and juices. Towards the end of the tour, he grabbed some more food, and we went and sat at a street side cafe. We drank coffee/tea and had fantastic discussions about modern life in Cairo. After our last meal and drink, he even offered to show us other parts of town on the way back to the hotel. One bit of advice, there is SO MUCH food! Don't feel obligated to clean your plate at every stop. By the end, my wife and I were begging him to just buy 1 portion and we would share it. Do this tour, and ASK FOR CAPOO!

Felucca and food tour

I had the a wonderful time today with my cousin and our daughters. Tamir was warm and kind and took care of us as if we were his own family. We had a true taste of Egypt complete with sweets and tea! We drove through Old Ciaro which was a added treat. The Felucca ride was sublime and a must do! Tamir made the experience that much sweeter with his pleasant disposition. I highly recommend this tour and guide!

Great local guide and authentic tour

Our driver and guide Tamer was sweet, nice, and very protective. He went out of his way to ensure we were having a good time. The tour takes you to several local spots to try authentic cuisine. We were adventurous and tried it all.

Nice to tour and eat away from downtown. Real food amongst real people. My guide, Sapoo, was punctual and very helpful. My taste buds are still savouring the flavours even if my stomach is groaming!

We did the food tour with Ahmed. It was excellent. Ahmed is punctual, communicates well and is easy to be around. The tour was well organized and the food selection are top quality examples of Egyptian foods. Ahmed was very flexible, listening to any detail that needed changing to satisfy his customers. BEST GENUINE TOUR GUIDE, AMAZING EXPERIENCE

Our food tour guide was Capoo (Hossam). There are no worlds to describe how amazing this food tour was. Capoo picked us up from our hotel on time, from there we went to eat a local dish that was very delicious. The restaurant was very clean and what I liked about this tour was that you eat with other local people. Capoo was amazing. He answered all of our questions and gave us explanations about the food and everyday life in Egypt. Capoo was very genuine and sincere, we can tell he loves what he does and he is definitely a peoples person. No doubt about that. After the first meal we then went to have some local tea at another spot and of course shisha. We tried Egyptian coffee and tea. Both were delicious. We stayed here for a while enjoying the main road and talking. Capoo took me a picture in a tuc-tuc that was parked outside. Egyptians are very hospitable. From that tea shop we went to try the most delicious FALAFEL. It was warm, and fresh, simply delicious. Finally our last stop included trying a local beverage from Egypt which is made of sugar cane. During these stops. Capoo drove us and we felt very safe. Capoo is an experience drive and knows the city very well. Capoo thank you so much for this amazing day. We had an incredible time with you. You definitely leave a print in our lives. Each time we remember Egypt, we will remember you as you provide the best customer service experience we had overall. The best. Thank you Capoo. Incredible Egyptian Food Experience

Want to eat like a local with a local? If so then this is your food tour! Experienced three different full sized main dishes (Koshari, Falafel and bean sandwiches, and an Egyptian meat extravaganza) all at different locations. Tea/ coffee break as well as dessert sampler and sugar cane juice. Ahmed Hamdy was a great guide with local food knowledge and a great personality. This tour allows you to experience great Egyptian food far away from the tourist buffet lines. Plan for 2-3 hours of eating and enjoying the sounds and energy of Cairo. I would definitely do this tour again. I highly recommend that you skip the meal prior so that you will have room for this feast! Thank you Ahmed!!!!
