Daintree Rainforest and Cape Tribulation Full Day Tour

Highly recommend to anyone- Australian or overseas tourist visiting Cairns 10/10

I first did this tour with Billy Tea tours in 2008 and found it to be excellent and very pleased to say the tour june 2024 lived up to my expectations. Our driver was the very best - and also couldn’t have got a better guide . Lunch was delicious & extremely good value Cannot begin to say how wonderful the natural attractions are 10/10

Well worth a visit

This was one of the best tours we have ever been on. Rowan was our guide and he was exceptional , his knowledge and his interaction with the tour was excellent. It was long day, but we came away more knowgeable as well as a awesome memory and great photos

Great day

And outstanding trip. Gavin was so knowledge, welcoming, and fun. Saw 4 crocodiles, a Ulyasise butterfly, a hundred wallabies, countless birds, a waterfall and the ancient rainforest. Even the food and icecream catered for vegans. He went out of his way to accommodate. Could not recommend more highly.

Great day

The whole day was good but I really enjoyed the walks in the rain forest. It was interesting and informative we had a great driver guide.

Amazing day!

Highly recommend the Daintree day trip from Cairns. Our guide Andrew was amazing and told us so many great stories throughout the day. He was really passionate and enthusiastic and his mood infectious. Yes you spend a lot of time in the van but it was comfortable and the views were beautiful so we didn’t mind. Cape tribulation was not part of the trip due to the cyclone still, hopefully that will change soon. Lunch and ice cream were plentiful and delicious. We had a wonderful time. It’s also a local tour company which is nice.

We have been on numerous expedition tours and accept that nature isn’t scripted. We are more than happy to embrace whatever experience our guide is able to expose us to on the day. Therefore, a guide can obviously make or break the day. Our guide, Gavin (Gav), was the epitome of a great guide. He arrived on time, ensured people were positioned within the 4WD vehicle according to their abilities, continually communicated with guest as to their individual needs and offered numerous convenience stops if required. As a horticulturist, Gav was a wealth of information on all things rainforests. He did his absolute best in exposing any camouflaged wildlife that did its best in not being exposed. We never felt rushed and Gav was able to modify the itinerary on the run as things out of his control changed. Gav’s enthusiasm was infectious during a great day out.

Great trip.

This trip more than met my expectations. The Mossman Gorge was amazing. Definitely recommend to anyone who has never been in a Rainforest.

The Beautiful Daintree

Loved our tour with Graeme. Saw some spectacular scenery around the Daintree and Mossman Gorge. Loved the boat trip on the beautiful Daintree River. Highly recommend this relaxing way to see the Daintree highlights.

Daintree River and Cape Tribulation Tour - Billy Tea Safaris

Amazing day. Grahame was an encyclopedia of knowledge from botany, history and ecological state of the rain forest. Wonderful day of sightseeing, visits and experiences with commentary throughout. We did not get to Cape Tribulation itself due to the after effects, and continuing restoration, of the devastating floods of Dec 23 - what we saw, though was probably as beautiful. Highly recommended

My Billy Tea Safaris Tour Experience

The whole experience was amazing, from the tour itself to the places we visited, and our driver had a wealth of knowledge about the local area. The service from The Billy Tea Staff was excellent from our booking of the tour, first Class. My wife has dietary concerns, but our driver made sure she was looked after. Daintree Dismay with Graham

The day started off great with an on-time pickup by the guide, Graham. He told the group to relax and get to know each other and then started driving us to our first stop. After driving 10-20 min, he started talking using a headset and speaker. I tried to understand him through the muffled speaker for about two minutes, but gave up and continued talking to my neighbor. At the first stop, my seat mate got off the bus and asked Graham how much time we had. He responded "if you wouldn't have been talking while I was talking, you would know". I was shocked because he told us to chat with each other before he started the drive. We also couldn't understand what he was saying even when we weren't talking. My seatmate told him we couldn't understand him through the speaker and he told her something like "oh that's interesting because I can hear you perfectly". When everyone was back on the bus he made a speech about him not wanting to talk and tell us about the area if we're just going to talk over him. I felt horrible, embarrassed and wanted to literally zip my lips. I wish Graham had requested that we refrain from talking while he spoke at the beginning of the tour to prevent him from becoming frustrated and scolding us like children. I felt intimidated to ask questions or speak on the bus for the rest of the day. Despite the rocky start, I found Graham to be very knowledgeable about the area once we were off the bus. On land, he pointed out interesting plants and insects and shared fascinating facts about them. If I had the chance to redo the tour, I would have chosen a seat with a clearer speaker and kept quiet during the ride. Overall, it was a pleasant day, but I wouldn't opt for another tour with Graham. His comments negatively affected my experience and hindered my enjoyment of the trip. I missed out on learning about the area due to the frustrating audio issues.

Fun day trip in the rainforest

Had a great time in the daintree, very good pace and our guide Grahme was very entertaining and told us a lot of Australian history and cultural info. The lunch and ice cream they provided was great and you should definitely try the local barramundi fish while you're there. Unfortunately due to the heavy rainstorms we didn't get to see as many crocs or birds as we would have liked but it was a great trip regardless.

Worst booking I ever made

Me and 2 friends wanted to do the daintree tour together and were full of anticipation. However, this anticipation quickly turned into disappointment. The app said that we would be picked up at 7.10am and that we should be ready 5 minutes beforehand. However, after there was still no bus at 7:25 we contacted the organisation. They told us that the bus had already left without us. As a result, we missed the entire tour! We were referred to an email that had ended up in the spam folder, in which a tempting departure time of 7.00 a.m. was displayed. However, this information could only be found at the bottom of the email, while 7:10 was still stated at the top of the email. So in the mail 2 different times were mentioned. A stupid misunderstanding. However, I am disappointed that I did not receive a call or anything similar but was simply driven. They also had no understanding for my problem on the phone but rather blamed me. It should not be forgotten that we were 5 minutes late in total, which is not an eternity by any stretch of the imagination. Unfortunately, because of the misunderstanding, the unfortunate mail in the spam folder and a 5-minute delay, we are now stuck with the almost 140 euros.

Great small group tour that adjusted fantastically to road closures

Billy Tea tours did a great job. Our truck van had 15 people so it was a good size to get into the sights and not a big bus crowd. Our guide did a great job commenting on the sites and history, but also stopping for photo ops in key spots. We saw lots of crocodiles along the river banks which was very cool. Our guide also did a great job "ad-libbing" to the tour when there was road construction due to the recent cyclones, he took us to a secluded beach side trip that was fantastic! Great "audible" on the play calling!

Touring the Daintree Rainforest and Cape Tribulation

An absolutely wonderful tour. I highly recommend it. The day was more than we expected. Our tour guide was excellent. She went above and beyond to ensure we all had a wonderful experience.

The best excursion to enjoy a day in the Daintree rainforests

This excursion was amazing I could see crocodiles! Even if it was raining I enjoyed the whole day. Our guide Daniel made the day very interesting and he was also very friendly!! The lunch was so good, there was a good portion and we also had fruits. After that, we went to have an ice cream made with seasonal fruits. 🤤😍 Thank you so much for this lovely day ♥️

Road to Cape Daintree

visiting the daintree on the day the road reopened was an eye opener to the devastation caused by cyclone jasper. The forests and river cruise were immersive and provided a great insight into this tropical region

Well worth it

What a fabulous day out! We had Andrew as our Tour Guide. So knowledgeable, friendly & accommodating. He shared information & interesting stories the whole day. Knew the roads like the back of his hand. Highly recommend. We all enjoyed lunch. Some of us enjoyed ice cream but good to try different flavours. Really recommend for a full day out & gaining new knowledge of our environment. Thank you!!

Amazing day

Highly recommend to do Billy Tea tour esp with tour guide Tony ! Tony is absolutely amazing . He took his time explaining the entire trip . Very knowledgeable of the environment .. we got to see croc in wild , dingo , cassowary , iguana and native tree . Thank you Tony for a fabulous day .

Lovely tour

Very nice day trip. The safari was fun, and we saw a crocodile. The lunch was subpar. The ice cream was unique but delicious! We loved walking through the rainforest. We unfortunately did not get to go to Cape Tribulation due to the road closures.

Excellent excursion and so fun!

What an incredible day! We saw and did so much. Although we couldn't go to Cape Tribulation because of landslides that were caused by the cyclone in December 2023, the Daintree River cruise was incredible (crocs, lots of them!), the beach was fabulous, lunch was delicious, and then we were treated to a visit to Mossman Gorge, which was on our bucket list but we thought we wouldn't be able to get there this trip. I highly recommend this one. Great tour guide and experience. Don't miss out!

Long Rough Ride For Some Okay Experiences

Seeing some crocs (3) and two frilled lizards, along with a herd of wallabies in a sanctuary at the end. Our guide Andreas was great, which was what put this above a 2 star experience. The vehicle road very roughly (we were actually more sore from that the next day than the generally easy Rainforest walk); to be fair, previous flooding had damaged many parts of the road, making transit longer as well as rougher. The lunch was good and ice cream after was excellent. What was really disappointing was the misleading advertising about what would be experienced - specifically there was no rainfirest pool swimming ("Swim in the rainforest at pristine Emmagen Creek") nor was there an ATV ride ("4 wheel drive into dense tropical rainforest on the Bloomfield Track"). Both were apparently canceled due to previous (and current?) flooding? That that flooding might remove some experiences was mentioned; BUT given that that update / disclaimer was posted mentioning some stops (one still included in the title of the tour!), that the other two experiences were also cancelled could have surely been specified (reportedly the rainfirest pool was destroyed in 2019!).

Great day in the rain

Great day at Daintree and Mossman. It rained - a lot! This didn’t spoil our day although the walk on Thornton Beach would’ve been better in the sun! River cruise was great and we saw crocs! Graham was our driver and the reason for 4 stars was the van was either freezing or hot & stuffy. There was never a happy medium.

Fun day in the rain

We had a great time on the tour. The Daintree river cruise was fantastic. The tour showed the devastation that Cyclone Jasper caused. The damage the roads and the river ecosystems was unimaginable. Whilst it was really disappointing not being able to make Cape Tribulation - it is completely understandable. It rained a lot of the day which limited the time we could spend on the beach - (hence the “4” rating) but this couldn’t be helped. A big shout out to (a) Daniel our host for the day - who was very knowledgeable and attentive and (b) Bruce - our Daintree River Cruise driver. He was knowledgeable and exceedingly entertaining / funny (he should consider a career in comedy) Many thanks to everyone for a great day out

Daintree Tour

Had a great trip to the Daintree Rainforest and Mossman Gorge. Great weather, fantastic views, and good food. Our tour guide Gavin was knowledgeable and friendly and made every effort to ensure all members of the group were looked after. I highly recommend this trip to anyone visiting Cairns.

Jewels of the Daintree

We had a wonderful day on our Daintree and Cape Tribulation day tour. Our guide Emma was so gracious and helpful. She is also an excellent driver. She provided us with informative and interesting commentary throughout the day. Highlights for us included the Daintree and Mossman Gorge. I would recommend this day tour to anyone. Great day great guide.

Fantastic day out. Tony the guide was excellent and very knowledgeable and informative pointing out the local flora and fauna. Due to the weather, high tides the itinerary had to be adjusted a little but we still did everything and even though we were running late didn’t miss anything or feel rushed. I would thoroughly recommend this efficiently run excursion.

No notification of cancellation

Tour canceled due to weather, we understand this, but they never notified us until we called when our pick up was 30 mins late making it too late to book other activities.

Must do!

Such a fun time! Gavin was a great guide and you can tell he loves his job and where he lives! While we didn't get to go to all the places we originally supposed to (because of the cyclone and clean up) the changes in itinerary didn't lessen the day. Lunch in a rainforest was fun and loved the river cruise down the Daintree!

Excellent tour

We have had an amazing day, despite the ever changing weather and the lack of birds and crocodile sitings. We had a guide with a lot of interesting information about the country, the communities and the rainforests plants and animals. Food was excellent. As of that wasn’t enough we got to see a Cassuare in the wild.

Daintree tour

We had a wonderful day with our guide, Rowan. He was so personable, and we enjoyed his interesting commentaries during the drive. A highlight was the delicious lunch, ice cream and swim in the river. The actual walk through the rainforest is only about 15 minutes.

Rowan and Billy Teas Safari are the Best!

Rowan and the Team at Billy Tea Safari are amazing! He was so informative and friendly and took us on a wonderful adventure yesterday! We seen so many different species of wildlife from crocodiles, kangaroo, Boyd’s forest dragon and spiders. We took the boat cruise in the Daintree River and drove all through the Daintree national park. We went to Thornton Beach, swam at after our hike in Mossman George! I loved all his nicknames he had for us Team Canada was ours ❤️! What a wonderful experience and definitely recommend this company to lead you through all these amazing experiences!!

Spectacular Day at Daintree

Spectacular day exploring the Daintree National Forest with Gavin. He is so knowledgeable of the forest, the lizards, snakes, insects and foliage. Highly recommend this tour!

Beautiful forest and worth a visit

From start to finish the day was varied and interesting. Gavin our guide was friendly and knowledgeable. Parts of the trip had to be amended due to the damage caused by cyclone jasper, but it was a great day. Food was good and the river swim was a welcome break. Would recommend billy tea Safari's if you want to visit the daintree.

Excellent Day Trip

Amazing tour of the river and jungle, fantastic lunch and incredible sights! Highly recommend this trip for anyone visiting the CAIRNS area.

GREAT VALUE TOUR>

Tour was modified due to the recent cyclone and heavy rain making some road impassable. We still had a fantastic day with our tour guide Gaven who displayed a great passion for the area. He was extremely knowledgeable and also fun. Our river cruise captain Bruce also went out of his way to find us some wildlife including a crocodile. This was no mean feat given the recent extreme damage done to the Daintree. We strongly recommend this tour.

Rowen Rocks!!

Rowen was an amazing tour guide!!! He was full of knowledge, was kind, helpful, and always put in the extra effort to make sure we all had a great time!!! The Daintree rainforest was beautiful and we even saw crocodiles!!

Just ok not sure if I would recommend long time on a bus!

Too much time spent on the bus! The write-up about the tour was a bit misleading. The tour guides were really good but too long on a tour bus for me!!

the riverboat tour was...

the riverboat tour was excellent. The bus is quite uncomfortable and bounces violently. I know they normally go off roading, so they are trying to have that experience, but do not ride this tour if you have a bad back or head ache issues. The tour is also quite long with not a lot of value add.

Worth It

Even though Cape Tribulation and Bloomfield Track were inaccessible due to recent mudslides, we managed to have a nice tour of the rainforest. It's the 2nd biggest natural attraction in the area, only beaten by a visit to the Great Barrier Reef. Our driver was great, and fun (including a very good sit down lunch) was had by all.

Friendly, knowledgable guide, Emma gave us a Great guided tour and excursion also On hand to answer any questions, The beach was beautiful, also great rainforest trip and swim at the end, couldn’t get to cape T due to a cyclone which has cut off the road

A Worthwhile Experience

This was an excellent tour. Rowan, our guide, was very knowledgeable and provided us with plenty of interesting and relevant information along the way. The weather wasn’t ideal, but you take your chances in the wet season. Overall, a great day out. Thank you Billy Tea!

Disappointing

12 hours, mostly on a bus. Very little physical activity. Seems every tour bus company was in the same locations. A 30 min. boat ride, another drive for lunch, ice cream stop, a very slow short walk in the forest.

Fun time exploring despite altered itinerary due cyclone jasper

I had a fun time on this tour! A lot of the itinerary was altered due to impact of cyclone Jasper unfortunately but this was communicated to us beforehand. We unfortunately didn’t see too many animals, likely due to them relocating because of the cyclone. The beach stop was my least favorite as we just stood on the beach and walked if we wanted to for a few minutes. My favorite was swimming at Mossman Gorge! The ice cream was the best I’ve ever had (dairy-free friendly)!! The lunch was delicious and they had a vegan option👍🏼 super cool seeing the worlds oldest rainforest(:

Great day

This tour had to be amended because of the cyclone (we knew this before booking). We got to see the impact for ourselves. It was a fabulous day- friendly and informative guide Gav. Didn't feel rushed at all but got loads out of the day. Would definitely recommend.

Daintree & Mossman Gorge

What an unexpected super experience! Fantastic driver/guide, only pleased to help, full of knowledge. Some areas inaccessible due to recent cyclone and flooding but alternative scheduling unfussed. Scenery, crocodiles, river tour, tropical forest & swimming, highly recommended to all. Ticked off bucket-list 👍

8 hours on the bus - what a waste of time.

8 hours on the bus - what a waste of time. For the rest of the 2,5 hours: - 45 mins boat ride in the mangrove: we didn't see any crocodile - restaurant was OK - 15 mins stop at a random beach with nothing outstanding - 30 mins stop at an ice cream place - 90 mins stop for a walk in the rain forest Definitely not worth 11 hours of your time, especially on a long trip.

Modified itinerary due to weather--still great!

Unfortunately, due to the storms following Cyclone Jasper, the itinerary for this tour was modified, so we went to the Daintree Rainforest, Daintree River, and Mossman Gorge. The Daintree Rainforest is beautiful, and Mossman Gorge is a must-see. We took a dip and the water felt amazing and had a strong current, also becomes of the storms. We saw 1 small crocodile in the Daintree River. Graeme was a great tour guide who showed us green ants and how you can eat them for a Vitamin C boost! :D

Just my kind of trip

On time, informative, comfortable, and impressive. Just a few of the ways to describe this trip. The 4 wheel drive vehicle was clean and comfortable with ample air conditioning and large clean windows. Our driver, Tony, was gracious, knowledgeable and patient. Some of the roads we drove on had been only recently opened from the devastation from cyclone Jasper in December last year. Tony made the longer than usual time spend in the bus entertaining and informative. The morning tea break and river cruise were wonderful. We saw birds and a crocodile, which was amazing as the whole river area had been flattened in the storm, and the guide was sad to say he had lost contact with a number of the resident creatures who normally made this area their home. He was as excited as us to actually see the croc! Lunch was delicious, as was the ice cream on the drive back. The beach walk was beautiful and the spectacular rain forests, even with so many trees damaged, were amazing. I would highly recommend this trip.
