Cape Tribulation, Mossman Gorge and Daintree Rainforest Day Tour

very enjoyable

The tour guide was awesome. Very knowledgeable and experienced. Loved the ice Cream in the Daintree, the Daintree Rainforest, River Cruise, lunch at the Daintree Teahouse, and guided walk at Mossman Gorge. Very disappointed that we could not see the go Cape Tribulation. Considering the Cyclone went through LONG before we booked, that part of the itinerary should never been offered.

A great day!

Jim/James kept us educated and entertained the whole day. Everything ran smoothly - from pick up at the scheduled time to drop off. The Mercedes Sprinter van was air conditioned and comfortable and handled the road and any bumps well. Mossman Gorge, the suspension bridge and morning tea were our first stop. A couple of our group dared a quick swim. The Daintree Teahouse provided a lovely lunch with a dozen different fruits to sample. We enjoyed the cruise along the Daintree River where we spotted 2 female crocodiles and also saw some of the destruction left by the cyclone in December. Next was a quick stop for ice-cream as we kept heading north. From there the tour would usually go a little further to Cape Tribulation, however the cyclone has caused so much damage to the roads the end of the line for us was beautiful Thornton Beach, followed by the long journey back to Cairns. Thanks to Jim/James for a great day!!

Good knowledgeable tour

Good tour with a knowledgeable guide. Good lunch stop too. Stops and sights were easy to get to. Only minor issue was it would have been good to hear with more than one day's notice that Cape Tribulation we could not do on tour due to past weather damage. However this did not spoil the tour for me and just means I need to visit again.

A good trip

The trip is as described, hitting all places on the itinerary. Steve is a great and knowledgeable tour guide. Yes, I would have preferred more time in the Daintree, but it is a long day. Overall, a good day trip.

Rent a Car instead

Too much time on bus picking up people from Palm Cove And Port Douglas. Nothing was that interesting. 12 hour day with 9 hours on the bus. Better to rent a car and do it on your own.

Beautiful tour of amazing australian landscapes and nature, James is the best tour guide if had in years at discovery tours. Laughing the whole trip, walking encyclopaedia, energetic!

Fantastic day

Fantastic day and highly recommend. Our guide could not have done anymore for us. We were in a group of 16 in total and didn’t feel just a number. We enjoyed a fantastic lunch and learned so much en route to each of the locations

Rain in the rainforest

Hats off to our tour guide Carsten, who really tried his best to make a great day out of a very rainy one. We visited in March from Cairns and we woke up to TORRENTIAL downpour. I called the operator number and they confirmed we were still a go. We were promptly picked up and the morning was relatively smooth. The viewpoints were a bit tough because of the rain. The morning tea was lovely. Unfortunately, the crocodile ride was cancelled because the boat captain could not get to the tour spot. Plus the river was super high and super fast so probably would not have been safe … also lots of silt in the water so no crocodiles would have been visible anyways. The roads were under a lot of construction. There were many lights to direct traffic one way at a time because the roads were reduced to one lane. This is all because of a recent cyclone in December 2023. Lunch was very nice. The cultural center was the best part. The gents were able to organize a lesson / sharing from a local Elder to help compensate for all the weather caused mishaps - which was very considerate. I was personally really enthusiastic about swimming in the gorge based on other reviews but again with the rain and river rising and fast water - it was just not safe. Now the reason I have four stars was because of the price. Recognizing the weather mishaps were absolutely not within the control of the company, I really tried to think about the tour if it had had perfect weather and what not. Even if everything had been perfect. It is a tour that is definitely on the higher side. Now what is worth the price tag … well, if everything had been perfect with lots of sunshine and crocodiles and swimming in the gorge … maybe. So for others. Just be mindful that the itinerary is based on a perfect weather day and after all - you are in the rainforest ! This is not to take away from again - our very kind host Carsten, he really worked hard and always had a big smile on his face - which really helped with the rain and the mud haha Thank you !

Great family holiday!

We spent a week in Port Douglas and had an amazing family holiday. We stayed at "By The Sea" which was right next to Four Mile Beach and still close handy to the main street of Port Douglas. Day trips to Mossman Gorge, Hartleys Crocodile Farm and a day of snorkelling on the Great Barrier Reef were highlights! Do yourself and your family a favour and spend a week in an amazing part of Australia

Highly recommended

Our guide was wonderful. He was personable,well informed And made it both fun and interesting. We had a great view o forest, couldn't go to cape due to heavy storms washing out the roads.

Mossmon Gorge was...

Mossmon Gorge was excellent. But hardly had much time. Just an hour to walk, experience the Indegenous performance and the souvenir store . I wish they don’t do the market in the morning. Total waste of time! We could spend that half hour more at mossmon Gorge.

A road trip for who just want to be there

I recently took a tour that, unfortunately, did not meet my expectations, and I feel it necessary to share my experience for future travelers considering this option. The majority of our tour was spent on the road or in restaurants, with many noteworthy sites merely pointed out from a distance or discussed while passing by. This approach provided limited engagement with the locations we visited. Unlike another group from the same company that was given guided exploration opportunities, our group was often left to wander independently. The lack of structured walks and informative accompaniment significantly detracted from the experience, leaving us to figure out things on our own. Most concerning was a dangerous incident involving a boy and his father who nearly drowned while swimming in the Daintree Rainforest's river, an activity that was promoted as safe. Alarmingly, the guide was absent when this critical situation unfolded, raising serious questions about the tour's safety measures and oversight. Given these experiences, I cannot recommend this tour to those seeking a fulfilling, relaxed, and immersive travel experience. The lack of guided exploration, safety concerns, and the overall structure of the tour fell short of providing a memorable and enjoyable journey.

Lawrence the tour guide did an excellent job. The cookies story was priceless. Lunch was delicious as well as Betty’s ice cream.

A fantastic way to see is part of the world.

A very beautiful & interesting part of the world, my visit came a few months after a horrendous weather front. But our guide made the day and wonderful visit. My favourite part was our swim in a spot out of a travel magazine.

Crocodiles and Gorges

Loved the boat trip on Daintree River when we saw a couple of crocodiles, the walk through the rainforest and swimming at Mossman Gorge. Carsten, our guide, was knowledgeable, informative and great fun.

No Disappointments here.

A delightful excursion which included stops for refreshments. It was well paced and the seasoned guide anticipated questions. This Discovery Tour was well worth the time and money. The tour guide, Darrel, was simply fantastic.

Awful day

Pick up time advertised as 7.05 - in reality was picked up at 7.35. Drive along the coast was amazing and the tour guide clearly knowledgable. Stopped for a photo and then an hour boat ride. This was followed by 30 minutes in the ‘village’ which basically just comprised of a bar - complete waste of time. Lunch at the aborigine centre was fine but then talk by the elder took far too long. Spent an hour at the waterfall. Given the conditions did not allow for most of the advertised items to take place, other tour groups went to neighbouring beaches - this would have been a far better use of time. Don’t book this tour if you’re expecting to walk through the rainforest as this wasn’t an option. Save your money and time

Great day trip

Both times I’ve done this tour have been fantastic! I had Mario the previous time and Lawrence this time. The guides are very friendly and knowledgeable. Lawrence kept me and my friend entertained with his Aussie wit and humor. Shame that some parts of the tour were closed due to the recent flooding but obviously beyond anyone’s control. Glad they’re still at least offering a modified tour! My friend was visiting from overseas and also enjoyed the trip. We both highly recommend adding this to your Cairns itinerary!

Tablelands

The tour was outstanding despite the heavy rain fall. Our tour leader did an outstanding job taking care of us in less than perfect conditions

Great tour

We truly enjoyed our tour. Even though it was modified due to the damage caused by the cyclones the company gave us excellent value.

Disappointing Tour

It was just okay. Mostly involved eating rather than experiencing the rainforest. The Cape Tribulation portion was cancelled - we were notified that we time in Dansworth Village - but we never went to the village. Would not recommend this tour. Also felt that Mario - the tour guide was just average.

Whilst out tour guide was...

Whilst out tour guide was good, it’s not a worthwhile experience to include in the Cairns itinerary- It has a little bit of everything but not enough to make it a memorable experience

A GREAT time

Cape Tribulation was not accessible do to damaged roads, but the rest of the trip was very good. Our guide (Brett) was native to the area and extremely knowledgeable. He made the entire trip including the rainforest very educational

No Cape Tribulation.

Ok day, but could not get to Cape Tribulation because of Cyclone damage. We were not told before we started. Nice views on the drive. Mossman Gorge was great. Interesting Indigenous Welcome ceremony and talk. Did not do the planned hike because it was so hot. Saw a couple young crocs on the river cruise

BK Daintree

The trip was great despite the weather circumstances. The guide, Mr Jim was awesome, knowledgeable, informative, friendly and professional. He made the trip worthwhile and enjoyable.

Insightful and some beautiful places to see

Lots of driving, 12 and half hr round trip. Mossman Gorge simply stunning. The Daintree river cruise we spotted a croc even though it was breeding season. Heaps of other birdlife and tour guide on the boat awesome. Lunch was great with an insightful lesson on fruit by the owner of the restaurant. Darrell our driver was full of information and had a big love for the cassowary who we unfortunately didn't sight on our travels.

Tropical forest guided trip

Very considerate guide, who particularly cared for a couple of whom the husband was blind. Scenery in all places visited was spectacular, good observations by guide local history and floral, and fauna. The lunch was in a superb bush cafe with a knowledgeable cafe owner pleased to show us all the local foods. Great Daintree river trip in which we saw several basking crocodiles. Tropical rain forest is amazing. Great trip.

Good Trip

The tour is very comprehensive and long. We drove over 200 miles in 12 hours. If driving directly there, the Daintree is a 3 hour drive from Cairns. So be prepared for a long day! It was great seeing the Daintree as well as the river cruise to see the crocodile.

Great!

Our guide James (Jim) was amazing! He is an absolute wealth of knowledge of not only the area but of the plants and critters who live in it. He was able to point out a lot of things for us to see that we would never have noticed on our own. It is evident that he loves his home and what he does! The tour was really good. The natural beauty of the area is wonderful and it was amazing to see such old/thought to be extinct plants and trees. The ride on the Daintree river was very nice (though we did not see much in terms of wildlife - can't expect it everytime so no big deal). The tea break and lunch were very good. The owner of the restaurant that we stopped at for lunch was incredibly knowledgeable about all of the tropical fruit that grow in Australia. The ice cream stop was also very good. It is definitely a long day as you travel from place to place but a very nice day to get out to see the rainforest and nature this area has to offer.

One of the best days of my whole trip!

I absolutely loved this trip and it was one of the highlights of my entire 6 week East coast adventure. Our tour guide Steve was so friendly and warm the entire day - he is incredibly knowledgeable and chatted to us all the way through with facts and stories about the sites we visited. I was a young solo traveller compared to the rest of the group who were older and in couples or groups, but I felt completely part of the team the whole day, thanks to Steve. We packed in so much during the day - Mossman Gorge, Cape Trib, Daintree - but Steve also pointed out other places of interest which really made the tour feel extra special. The van was comfortable and it didn't feel like too much driving around because of the regular stops. Overall I am so happy I chose this tour, thank you Steve!

Long but good day trip

Picked this tour as it was a smaller group. We were picked up at our hotel early at 7am and started our day. Stopped at Port Douglas before heading on to Mossman Gorge, where we had morning tea and a short guided walk. Some people went for a dip. Had a good lunch where the owner explained all sorts of tropical fruits (which were served) to us. Went on a cruise on the daintree river and only spotted a baby crocodile. Cape Tribulation was the last stop - did a short walk and took some pictures at the beach, before stopping at an ice cream shop with delicious ice cream. We had a very knowledgeable guide - can't remember his name but he was a 4th/5th(?) generation Aboriginal. Had an enjoyable trip.

Rain or shine - it was a great trip

The guide can truly make or break an experience and Jim was fantastic! He kept us entertained throughout and really fleshed out a lot of the details to provide history and insight. The itinerary is packed with several sites to visit - some just are a photo-op - mixed with a fair amount of driving… but you should already be aware of this going in. Rainforest, walking the beaches of the Cape, river cruise and some really good food mixed in. Rained three times during the excursion - obviously - so plan accordingly. Can’t recommend enough..

Not to be missed day trip of a lifetime Daintree Rain Forest & so much more… excellent value for money full day

This whole day (11 hour or so) small group tour packs in essential highlights of Daintree region including pick up/return from accommodation from Cairns/ Palm Cove, Port Douglas (including loo stop), Mossman Gorge (morning tea plus elevated boardwalk through lower rainforest canopy waterfalls and lookout), Daintree river cruise for croc and other wildlife spotting (1 hour), (sadly too warm to see any crocks, but lovely nonetheless) lunch at Daintree Tea House (including a tropical fruit talk by Richard), I had Kangaroo steak… wow… so tender & tasty & beautifully cooked. Daintree ferry crossing, Cape Tribulation (Kulki lookout and Cape T beach), fan palms at Madja boardwalk, and Floravilla ice cream, a stop at Port Douglas, views of Walu Wugirriga & Kimberley . Steve was simply amazing with so much knowledge, he chatted the whole day pointing out points of interest all along the way, his jokes & infectious humour, enthusiasm and knowledge was simply incredible. It was unfortunate that i didn’t take cash because he deserved a huge tip. Thank you Steve & well done, incredible value for money for a wonderful day, absolutely not to be missed.

Day trip from Cairns to the Daintree

This tour started early since we had to collect people from both Cairns and Port Douglas before heading into the Daintree. Steve, our guide picked us up at 7am and by 9am, we had the van of 16 people and headed to Mossman Gorge. We then went onto the Daintree, Cape Tribulation, finishing at a great little ice cream shop. Steve was excellent, both with his knowledge, experience of the land, and sarcasm which helped on a long day's trip. Honestly, you cover a lot of ground on this tour and it can seem a bit rushed, but it's a very good rate for what you experience. Drinking water is not easily accessible so be sure to bring a large water bottle. This tour should provide more sights to refill, not purchase plastic along the way. Overall, well worth it.

An overview of Daintree Rainforest

This tour allowed us to visit a lot of places we wanted to see however it is very much a flavour of the rainforest and surrounding areas. The highlight for us was the croc spotting river cruise which had a laidback approach and we were lucky enough to see a crocodile called Hook! We appreciate, for this tour to work, you have to stick to a schedule; however, there did seem to be a disproportionate focus on time keeping which did interfere with the enjoyment of the trip. There were places that we would have liked more flexibility to walk around without a guide such as Cape Tribulation beach and Mossman Gorge where we weren’t interested in the viewpoint and the swimming respectively. Overall, it was an interesting and very beautiful trip which we did enjoy.

Steve is a great tour leader who had us entertained all day with his wit, extensive knowledge and skillful driving.

Lovely day in the Daintree

As others will mention, this is a very long and busy day but we loved it and felt like we got so much out of it. Steve was our fabulous guide. We were picked up shortly after 7am and returned to our hotel in Cairns at 7pm. While the day was long and we kept to a schedule, it didn't feel too rushed. I appreciated that he was specific with us about the schedule so we had clear expectations on how much time we had on each part of the trip. The lunch was relaxed, delicious, and filling - even my 24 year old son thought there was too much food. The Daintree is beautiful and this trip just made us want to go back and spend more time there. We saw no crocodiles on the boat trip, but it sounds like that is not unexpected for the time of year we were there and the fact that it was high tide. The trip still provides a nice perspective from the water. We appreciated that it was a small tour, especially when we saw some of the larger buses in the area.

Great day with many points of interest

Wonderful all-day tour. Steve was a terrific guide, providing interesting information about history (including aboriginal history) and nature guides about flora and fauna and even the evolution of the continent itself and why the Daintree rainforest is the oldest in the planet. Particularly loved swimming in Mossman Gorge - would have liked even more time for that, but we had a lot to cover in 12 hours!! Delicious fresh lunch in open air restaurant with introduction to tropical fruits. Stops along the route for expansive views. River boat ride to search for crocs (no swimming there!), car ferry, final stop at beautiful cape tribulation beach before returning the way we came (with a quick stop for ice cream made with local fruits). All in all a great day, I’d travel with this company and this guide again.

Wonderful day in the rainforest

Breathtaking scenery at every stop. There was no swimming at Mossman Park but that was fine. Was still able to climb. Daintree cruise allowed us to see crocs and other wildlife. Highly recommend.

Must Do

Great experience visiting the stunning Daintree Rainforest and Cape Tribulation. Mario was very knowledgeable and he ensured we were safe at all times.

Day of adventure.

Whole experience and guide made it a great day in the North. Lunch was fresh, well presented and exceptional variety. Kangaroo cooked to perfection. Interesting talk about produce as well. Timing at each stop done well. Vehicle very comfortable.
