Amazing tour

An amazing 4 wheel drive experience. Spectacular scenery, gorges, lookouts and driving through creek beds filled with water. Our tour guide James was great, his knowledge of the area was interesting to listen to and his hilarious "dad" jokes made this such a fun trip. Definitely recommend this tour.

Loved this tour!!

We had so much fun!! We came to Cairns for the snorkeling and booked this at the last minute when we had a free afternoon. We didn’t have high expectations but this ended up being the highlight of our trip! Absolutely breathtaking views and our guide, James/Jim, was the BEST!! He was so much fun and very informative. We learned a ton from him and he really made the tour so awesome. You can tell he genuinely loves his job. We all loved him!! Highly recommend this trip.

Seeing the fig tree and 1 waterfall Did NOT go to the gorge and 10 people stuffed into a vehicle bouncing down a dirt road is Not What was described in details of trip Cost was too much for the little to see

Fabulous rainforest!

The waterfall was stunning! Learning about the plants and the termite mounds! And we stopped in the middle of the water and listened to the water! The trees were amazing! Tour guide was knowledgeable and entertaining!

Nice half day trip from Cairns

Did the half day tour with tour guide Steve. Was very enjoyable and informative despite the rainy weather - Steve adjusted the itinerary accordingly to ensure that we still got a full experience. Would definitely recommend especially if you find the full day trips exhausting as we do and like to take it a bit easier.

Great but unfortunately not full 4WD drive due to conditions

Great guide very knowledgeable and funny. Unfortunately one of the 3 sites we were going to was flooded and not accessible so we missed out on the full 4WD experience. Tablelands very different with 2 types of forest.

Fun & memorable tour!

We very much enjoyed our day with Daryl from Discovery Tours Australia! This was so very organized. From the moment Daryl picked us up at our hotel, he was so friendly, and very informative, with such a great personality! He added a lot of fun throughout our afternoon, being in the 4 wheel drive, and we could tell he really loves what he does. We learned so very much about this beautiful rain forest indeed! A great tour! Highly recommend.

It was great to go off the beaten track in a small group. Our tour guide was so knowledgeable and we learnt so much on the tour. The highlight for me was the waterfall and the 4WD tracks!

Great Tour but a little rushed.

It was great to see the Gorge and National Park only accessible by 4WD. The tour guide / driver was very knowledgeable and keen to interact, a great character. With a short stop for some of the group to swim it made the tour a bit rushed, in retrospect I would have chosen a full day tour (if available)

Great experience, only a little rushed

Gaining access to some areas of the gorge only possible by 4WD and a knowledgeable tour guide / driver made this half day tour, in retrospect a half day wasn’t enough, it seemed we were always rushed.

A most enjoyable way to spend an afternoon

We did this trip on 19th January. The entire "off the main tourist route "experience exceeded our expectations thanks in a big part to our guide Mick from Discovery Tours. Apart from the rainforest and falls themselves a particular highlight was seeing the fantastic Clohesy River Fig Tree. Greg and Jocelyn, Sunshine Coast.

Very informative

I took this trip as a last minute booking. I had wanted to visit other places but due to Covid-19 tours are not operating daily and my stay was unable to be extended to be able to take any other tours. Darryl was our guide and he was very informative and personable. Barron Falls was pretty barren as it is not wet season. The Clohesy river fig tree was quite cool to see. I enjoyed the off road part of the trip. Going across creeks in a 4WD was pretty cool. I appreciated that Darryl stopped to let me take pictures in Palm Cove as we dropped off passengers. Overall this trip is probably better taken in the wet season to get the most out of the waterfalls.

Great education, limited activity!

The guide was an expert on the ecology of the rainforest and the dry bush and the difference between the different areas. Obviously with the bushfires in New South Wales and Victoria there was an emphasis on environmental management which was interesting. Whilst the guide was very smart I didn't book the tour thinking that I would be given an education. I was hoping for something a bit more entertaining so if that is what you are looking for this is not the tour for you. The limited activity is a problem as the advertising suggests that you will go swimming and walk around the rain forest (we did this for around 5 minutes). We were not offered the opportunity to swim which was disappointing as it was one of the main reasons we booked this tour.

Perfect half day tour in the rainforest

We had the half day tour in the afternoon with our Guide Steve. We enjoyed the option to start at 1 pm, so we were able to start the day very relaxed. Luckily we were the only guests at this tour and so it was very personal. The tour was also very flexible: As we already saw the Barron falls from the skyrail, Steve took us to some other secret places in the rainforest and gave us lots of interesting information. What's really special about this tour, is that you're far away from all the full touristic places that are around Cairns. So if you want to see and learn about the true nature of this region, this tour is the right thing to do. We also had the chance to take a little swim in a rock pool above a waterfall. Steve was a perfect guide, very informative, interested and entertaining - so the 5 hours (in fact it was 5,5) were over much too fast. Thanks for having us and we can highly recommend to do this tour!

Baron Gorge half day ECCO tour

Guide was very knowledgeable and passionate about the environment sometimes this tipped from education to hectoring but understandable given some of the things he told us. The tour was done after a long shortage of rain and that meant the rainforest and waterfalls were dryer than normal but that is nature. We were even prevented completing one section due to a collapsed tree. If you want a small group tour with a guide that really knows nature this is the tour for you. Glad we did it

Leisurely half-day, broadly-focused nature tour

The half-day tour is very leisurely with minimal walking; I would recommend this tour for people that are not looking for anything too physical or adventurous and want a general overview of the area. Our guide, Mic, was very entertaining and did a good job explaining the sites.

Awesome experience!

This half-day tour was perfect for our schedule to give us a taste of the rainforests and tablelands around Cairns. Our morming tour was practically a private tour with my husband and I, plus another couple, and Jean our tour guide. Jean was an excellent guide, finding and pointing out wildlife for us, taking pictures, telling us the history of the area, stopping for random photo opportunities, and just making conversation with us. I would definitely take more tours with Discover Tours Australia, especially with Jean. I only wish that our schedule had allowed more time so we could have done the full day experience. But Jean provided some great tips on how we could spend our last few hours in Cairns after our tour and before we had to catch our plane. Great experience overall.

Fantastic Experience

We had the pleasure of taking the Half Day Rainforest and Waterfall 4WD tour with Steve. He took us to Kuranda National Park, DinDen National Park, a fruit tasting, Davies Creek Lookout, and more. Steve was extremely knowledgeable about all things Australia and Cairns and we learned so much in the few hours we spent with him. We absolutely recommend this tour as the experience was well worth the money and a fantastic way to see the area with limited time. However, it was Steve's humor and personality that really made the tour worth the time. Thank you to Steve for such a memorable day during our trip to Cairns!

Nature Tour with Steve

We had the opportunity to book a last minute half-day tour of the Rain Forest out of Cairns. Our guide for the day was Steve. He did a wonderful job of showing us around the rain forest and giving us plenty of detailed information about the sights we were seeing. The last minute tour worked out well for us as my wife and I were the only two on the tour. It was a perfect morning and we got see many sights that we will remember for a long time. Thanks Steve for a job well done.

Awesome trip, excellent guide

My half-day tour was way above expectations. My guide was knowledgable and friendly, and paid personal attention to customer wishes. The ride was fun, with gorgeous views, even though I went during the dry season when the falls were fairly skimpy (not the torrent you see in the tourist videos). I learned a lot about this fascinating Queensland rainforest, which is rather different from the tropical rainforests I've visited in other places. Highly recommended: they won't let you down.

Phenomenal half day tour

We did the half-day 4wd tour with Steve, and we had an absolutely incredible day! Rainforests, outback, waterfalls and fruit - the morning had it all and Steve really brought the experience to life. He was incredibly funny, knowledgeable, and personable. The tour had so many beautiful sights - from driving through rivers in the rainforest to hiking in the dry outback terrain. The highlight for us was breathing in the beautiful air and taking in the surrounding while sipping our coffee in the shadow of the strangled fig tree. This half day tour is a must do! Thanks Steve. What a legend!

Wow!!

My friends and arrived in Cairns at 9am without a plan for the day. Our hotel suggested this afternoon tour of the rainforest and waterfalls. This was one of the best tours we’ve been on during our 4 week vacation. It was a beautiful day to see everything and our tour guide Steve was fantastic. Very knowledgeable. He even brought along tea coffee and cookies for everyone! This was certainly a fun tour as everyone on the bus was from America with one person from Sydney. I highly recommend this tour and Steve! He was great!

Memorable last night in Cairns

Our guide Mick picked us on his Land Rover up on the dot for a 4-hour 4W Drive tour in the afternoon. Very knowledgable, friendly and even engaged well with my teenage daughter (who's extremely quiet) and 9 yo son who is very chatty but Mick answered all his questions patiently. We've taken a picturesque view of Barron Falls before going off-road. We explored huge termite mounds with lots of insightful commentary by Mick. We drove over streams, visited the famous Clohesy River Fig Tree then stopped by a creek to just get our feet wet. Then we headed to Termite Fruit Vegies to sample an amazing array of local fruits. We bought honey, custard apple (super tasty) and freshly roasted Macadamia (you must try). This 4-hour tour makes me want to return this little paradise.

Memorable Adventure.

A great memorable day full of adventure & information. Steve our driver was a wealth of knowledge. We drove along dirt tracks through flowing rivers & creeks, stopping along the way to see various trees, ferns & the giant Clohsey strangler fig. Steve told lots of stories, explained simply & answered everyone’s questions. We followed the beautiful Davies Creek, then had a short walk to view the falls from the best viewing point, a real treat. After this we stopped at the most beautiful, tranquil camping spot by the river for afternoon tea. Thanks Steve for a great tour, lots of laughs & nice safe driving.

A fantastic introduction to the area

After mis-remembering the details of a dive trip I had booked as the highlight of my stay in Cairns, I found myself with only a half day to explore topside. I'm usually not a group tour kind of person, but was pleasantly surprised by how much I got to see and learn in just an afternoon. That is in no small part thanks to an excellent tour guide, Mick, who is clearly knowledgeable and passionate about the natural beauty of that part of the country.

Just fantastic

It was a great tour. I was the only one booked in and they still ran it so Steve took me on my own private tour to see some magnificent rainforest and waterfalls. Steve was a top bloke and easy to talk with and provided me with knowledgeable commentary during the day. We stopped in a fruit shop on the way for a tasting platter of local produce which was so tasty and fresh and a delicious hot chocolate. The car was clean and comfortable. Plenty of toilet stops offered along the route. Can't fault this great half day tour. Pick up was punctual. Lasted approx 4 hours.

Excellent half-day 4 WD tour -Barron Gorge and kuranda national park

Highly recommend this tour! Steve our guide was well versed on the geologic history of the area as well as the flora and fauna we encountered along the way. Breathtaking views and waterfalls

This tour was well worth it, our driver Mick was so informative, learned a lot about the rainforest. The waterfalls were breathtaking - and of course our guide was very engaging and great sense of humour.

Great tour, away from tourist crowd

We did this tour with Steve and 4 other people. Steve showed us the rainforest spread across Cairns and it’s various unique characteristics. He showed us places in the forest away from the tourist crowd. It was a half day tour but worth spending the time. We really enjoyed the flora and fauna of Cairns wet tropics. Steve also arranged a small coffee break right in the middle of the forest at a very surreal location. We also went for Platypus spotting in the nearby creek, unfortunately couldn’t spot the platypus but the location was serene. Overall I would highly recommend this tour. Thank you Steve for the great tour.

Great way to see and experience the Rainforest.

This tour was everything we hoped it would be. We took this tour with Steve (and 4 others). It was a great way to see the Rainforest up close with limited time (half a day) and small group. Steve was passionate and knowledgeable about the landscape and shared so many facts with us. I would recommend this tour.

Wonderful half day adventure

My driver was Carsten on November 11, 2018. He is an asset to your company. He is so pleasant and has so much knowledge of the environment. He also impressed me as he is concerned about the environment and its future. It just takes one person at a time! There was one other person on the Sunday morning tour. We both learned a lot and had a great morning. I highly recommend this tour for people who don't want to spend a whole day touring. Just the right amount of time leaving your afternoon free. I was actually traveling with a large tour group and enjoyed getting away on the smaller vehicle tour versus another tour bus!

Best day so far!

Steve, you're the MAN! We expected a small group tour. Turns out it was just us, and our guide Steve. The tour itself takes you into areas inaccessible otherwise, keys were required for entry gates and so on. Steve was extremely knowledgeable, and a wonderful host for our trip. He's a pretty good photographer too! Ask him to sell you a print of his Fiddleheads. Considering it was a half day, we really felt we got value for money. Wesaw things you will never see unless you get out into the forest and bush country.

Relaxing but exciting and informative tour.

Our tour guide Steve took excellent care of us from the beginning. We could feel close to nature just after a 30 minute drive and experience an exciting 4WD drive in a World Heritage Rainforest. Steve told us lots of interesting things and made a mean cup of hot chocolate. All in all, a great trip.

Awesome experience

Out of all the tours on offer from Cairns, and compared to what we had done so far, we are soooo glad we chose this one. Our tour guide Steve knows his stuff and made it a fun and informative morning. Fabulous to get away from the tourists and into the impressive rainforest. Fun to be on some 4wd tracks, which meant we did some platypus searching as we went through the creek beds.

Excellent Experience

On our tour, it was just our family of four driven by our tour guide, Carsten. He was very informative and fun. We got from him a snack of biscuits and hot chocolate in between as well, which was a pleasant surprise. We started off driving up the mountain through the eucalyptus gum trees and stopped at a few lookouts. Then, we made it to the rainforest and walked along a few boardwalks to see particular trees (penda, fig) as well as additional lookouts of Morris Lake and Copperlode Dam. We also drove through many creeks in between which was fun. In one of them, we even spotted a platypus! We saw many interesting birds including but not limited too the cockatoo (white), kingfisher, pelicans, and a bird that wagged its tail when it landed. Other notable things we saw were umbrella trees, king ferns, pineapple ancestors, basket ferns, the giant bird nest, and a tortoise. After emerging from the rainforest, we saw the abundant termite mounds and got to see one up close. Toward the end of the tour, we quickly drove through Kuranda Village before viewing Barron Falls. At this time of year, it was fairly dry, but it was still beautiful. I wish we had more time to spend in Kuranda Village with the butterfly, koala, and venomous reptile sanctuaries, but they had all closed by the time we got there. Overall, it was an excellent tour with a wonderful tour guide.

Best day trip from Cairns!

What a delightful tour! Steve was an incredibly knowledgeable and personalable guide that was full of interesting tidbits about the rainforest. This tour is unique because it is the only tour company that has access to certain parts of the rainforest, which means that you are going to have the entire rainforest to yourself - how cool is that?!? A perfect 5 hour half day tour if you are looking for a Cairns day trip. Highly recommended!

Great rainforest and waterfall tour

Our family of 4 (all grown up) joined this morning half day tour and we had fun! Due to the season and mudslide earlier the week, we had to go an alternative route. It was still very good. We got to see at different elevation of the Barron River, the Barron Gorge, the waterfall, and went through 3 national parks. Our guide Steve is very knowledgeable and informative. We took great pictures, saw the back country of Australia, and had a very nice walk in the national forest. It was quite relaxing, and we enjoyed it very much. Thank you!
