Great food/drink tour

We had a terrific afternoon with Beata who had a great depth of knowledge of the local history. She offered us traditional Hungarian food and drink experiences which we very much enjoyed (and we were so full afterwards). There was plenty of variety in our tastings and we finished at a really interesting and quirky venue which I won’t name so it remains a lovely surprise if you choose this tour.

Do not waste your money or time

Do not spend money on this tour. Totally disappointed! We booked 6 tastings with drinks in Budapest 2 hour walking tour to experience local history and food experience. The photo is my only plate tasting experienced, note there is 6 items on the plate served to me at a local cafeteria style eatery with food on display pre-cooked ordered by tour guide. When we met guide we received our only included local drink 2 x UNICOM 40ml sample bottle to share! The guide left us to eat while she went to purchase dessert…a local candy bar in wrapper. Unbelievable!!!! Such a rip off.

Fun Evening

Got to try a few different Hungarian foods. A little disorganized, but good none the less. Great amount of food & drink. Very friendly.

Not value for money

Very disappointed .. whilst guide was lovely and informative, they changed the start time and meeting point 3 times, then was 45 mins late and the tour only lasted 1.5 hours not 2. In addition we only went to one restaurant for sausage and mash .. not the 6-10 award winning food tasting experience advertised. We have asked for part refund and been refused. Do not book

Exploring the food and city with friends.

A very enjoyable afternoon with Bea. We tasted great local food whilst learning about the local culture. We ate, drank and laughed. A brilliant way to explore the city.

Delicious

We tried a lot of delicious Hungarian food and Bea was able to shift the tour to accommodate what we had already tried so far in our trip. Highly recommend to anybody!

The Most Authentic Hungarian Tasting

We ended up being the only couple on the tour. Agnes did a fantastic job of showing us around the food scene in Budapest as well as some of the historical sites along the way. She was very nice, made sure all our expectations were met, and did a very good job of explaining the evolution of the culinary scene. Agnes was very communicative before the tour with expectations and meeting times/places. She even offered that we message her after our tour with any questions or recommendations.

Bea At Your Best in Hungary!

This tour was perfect. Just what we were looking for. Bea met us at our hotel and took us to a restaurant we would never have found for some traditional dishes. Then we explored the food market where Bea explained Hungarian wines, sausages, vegetables, and paprikas. It was very interesting and informative. At other spots we tasted delicious sausage, then funnel cake. Along the way, Bea pointed out interesting buildings and their history. Bea was fun, entertaining, and knowledgeable. We could have hung out with her all day!

Absolutely Recommend

Nick was an excellent guide. We experienced food that we would not have tried if not for the tour. He also took time to knowledgeably answer our historical and cultural questions. I would absolutely recommend!

Great Food Experience in Budapest

We had a great time with Tibe (Tiberiu) on our tour. He took us to several restaurants where we were able to get a great sampling of Hungarian cuisine. He provided a great history of the area on our walk and even took us to the original "Ruin" bar. We thoroughly enjoyed our tour and time with Tibe. I'd highly recommend this tour.

Very informative and guide Nick was great. Visited the Jewish ghetto wall remaining there. A little disappointed there were only 3 tastings.

Fun eating in Budapest!

Experiencing the traditional foods of Budapest. Getting a flavor for the culture and the people and food. Goulash, Palinka, and lanugo’s were so great and fun to try!!

Don’t waste your $400

I thought this would be an amazing introduction to Budapest food and culture. Our guide was sweet and gave information about the history. I honestly have never been on a food tour so I did not know what to expect. However I paid close to $400 for two people and this was not even close to what was described. We wondered around the market got information on history, had a small board of 4 cold cuts, Togo bag of cookies and savory biscuits, a bowl of goulash and something else one glass of wine and then 5 pieces of cake. It was plenty of food but not very diverse no wine pairing, I felt like I had to ask permission for drinks etc. it would also be best to not pair a guide with severe food restrictions such as a vegan with a meat eater! Thank you

The guide was great, but there was not that much food to taste. We were hungry afterwards and had to go get something else to eat.

Desserts and Alcohol - Street Food

Would give our tour guide Agnes 5 stars if we could do independently from the tour. She was fabulous and made the experience personal and educational. However the tour itself was not quite what we had expected nor hoped for. It was mostly desserts and alcohol with a bit of Hungarian fried dough. There was nothing included that included paprika , nor goulash which we had been hoping for to experience Hungarian flavors. If desserts , sweets and alcohol is what you are looking for then you will be very happy with this tour.

Our guide, Anna, was very knowledgeable about Budapest's food scene and its hidden gems. She was a very nice and kind person. We tasted some delicious food, and everything was more delicious than what we tried later on our own. Highly recommend this tour!

$345 for 6 sausages and goulash

Honestly, I'm jealous of all those great reviews, because I literally thought this tour was a scheme. On the day of the tour I got contacted by Petre, the tour guide, asking to meet up at 15.00 instead of 17.00, although strange, but it actually did fit in our schedule and we agreed, next question from the tour guide was if she could bring her 12 yr old niece (what???? No!). We met at the market, Petre asked us what we would like to try, again- I'm here to experience what Hungary eats, not my suggestions. She purchased 3 types of sliced sausage which we pointed to and took out mini bottles of local liquor, then went to get some local cheese. The brick of cheese came in a sealed package, no knife, so my husband had to open it with his teeth. OK,I guess that's what locals do? The next stop was the restaurant with sausages and potato sides where we tried 3 and 2 beers. Then Petre asked what else we would like to do. Again- I'm here for a 10 tastings, I don't know. I suggested to try goulash and we went to another restaurant which we picked at the area where she brought us to. 1 goulash soup and 2 beers. That was the end of tour. The aftermath- 3 sausages and 1 cheese at the market, 3 sausages at the restaurant, 1 goulash. Hmm, ok, 1 side of potatos and 1 goulash. Is that 10 tastings? Been to other tastings at other countries, that was the 1st time I paid $345 for experience like that! Pictures of our glorious experience are attached.

great tour for a first time visitor

A great tour for a first time visitor. Tiberiu really took the time to listen and personalize the tour. he had some great hidden gems that had amazing food. we ate family style and saw a ruin bar.

Well worth the money

This is one of the best tours we took in Budapest. It's nice having a guide walk with you through town and sharing the great cuisine of the city. I can't thank our guide enough for answering all of our questions, giving us unfiltered opinions, and just generally showing us a great time. We walked from the market through parks, to the Jewish temples, and back again all while trying different food and drink. The walk is fantastic and doing this tour was a great way to learn more about the city and get our bearings. Come hungry (pun not intended) because there's a lot of food and it can be pretty heavy. We went in July which probably isn't the best month for a food tour simply because it was so hot. We felt guilty not being able to eat everything shared with us but the heat took its toll. My advice is to come hungry and pick at the food rather than finish it all.

A must-do if you’re a foodie!

Beata was absolutely incredible! We bonded with her immediately and felt very supported the entire 4 hours. Beata gave us options of spicy/mild items and asked us how adventurous we were with trying other items. She was very friendly and helpful. She answered every question! We would recommend this tour and Beata 100%!

Great tour with Gabor! He provided a great sampling of local foods adjusting to accommodate different foods than we had already tried elsewhere. He gave us a lot of details around the samplings we had so we could really appreciate the foods! He communicated a lot of history including a lot of personal history which provided a unique local perspective.

Awesome!

Beata was awesome at giving us a fantastic overview of Budapest. She was really knowledgeable about the history and food and was terrific at being personable and connecting with our group, introducing us to fantastic dishes from places we would never have tried on our own. We were really happy to have been able to tour around with her.

Very little food and would not recommend.

We love to take food tours but this one was very disappointing. The guide was late and told us to just go downstairs to the grocery store in the food hall and buy some water for ourselves (would have been nice to know this beforehand or have them provide water). The food tour was going around the food hall gathering food. Then we found a bench to sit down while she broke out the food. The amounts were very skimpy and don't think it was 10 samples (e.g. 1/2 Cracker with about 1/4 teaspoon of jam and 1/4 teaspoon of cheese was 2 tastings). We then proceeded to the tram station where she told us to buy tram tickets for ourselves. Seems like for the price we paid, this should have been included. We took the tram for a few stops and then stopped in a store that offered free drink samples and were encouraged to buy stuff from the store (we didn't). Told us as a special treat she was taking us inside of the Opera house. Just went into the lobby but could have done that on our own. Overall, not worth it and wouldn't recommend this tour.

BUYER BEWARE!

After careful research and planning, we purchased the "10 Tastings of Budapest", 3 months prior to our May Budapest stay. it was purchased on Viator fully expecting to include it as a highlight to our afternoon itinerary after taking another Viator/TripAdvisor tour of the "Buda Castle District with Coffee and Cake." We cut our visit to the Buda Castle District short and caught a taxi to the designated meeting point at the designated time. When no one arrived, I called and texted 'Agnes', the assigned tour guide, but received no response or return call to my messages. Subsequently, I checked my emails and discovered to my dismay, that my tour was canceled at the last minute shortly before the start time. To cancel via email was totally insufficient, unacceptable and inappropriate. A contact phone number was requested at the time of booking and was provided. The courtesy of a phone call or text was NEVER received. We were left abandoned with no backup plan to walk around with no purpose. Trip Advisor has been used many times by us and to be treated in this manner is totally unacceptable. After writing & requesting appropriate compensation, we were given a small monetary compensation for 3 people in the form of 1 voucher for future travel. It’s unfortunate that Viator/TripAdvisor doesn’t value our lost time and missed experience as significant and we’re extremely disappointed that this precious time can never be returned to us. Experiencing how Viator views customer service, utilize them at your own risk!

Fantastic Afternoon

We had such a wonderful time with Gabriel. My husband is a chef and Gabriel customized our experience to include our interests. We sampled many local dishes, learning so much about Hungarian cuisine and culture. I would highly recommend this tour with Gabriel.

Simply the best way to experience the local foods.

Great tour - Great food

Andras was great! Good knowledge of local establishments and area history. He was very flexible on our food requests and limited time we had.

Not worth your time or money!

Our guide was personable and knowledgeable, but by no fault of hers, resulted in a terrible experience. We had been in Budapest for 2 days before this tour, and had been to the Central Market. What was not expected was depicted in our attached photos. Eight of the 10 tastings were in the Market. Our sampling took place on a "bench!" This was far from a personalized culturally immersive experience. We have completed numerous food tours over the past years, and this one was the lowest rated. Rather than walking and supporting local business owners where we coul have had appetizers, drinks, and various sampling of culturally enriched Hungarian food in an environment that made the experience less significant. This is a poorly planned "food tour" that one can do on their own and save them the cost of a tour that was far from the value delivered. My wife and I had a far better culturally immersive gastronomy experience by picking recommended local establishments, going in having a drink with some appetizers among 6 different locations. We will not recommend this specific tour to our clients or friends.

A local’s taste of Budapest

Nick was very knowledgeable about the food scene. We appreciated the opportunity to try foods that were new to us and to hear the accompanying stories. We feel like we experienced a bit of Budapest that not everyone sees, and that was great. We happily recommend this tour!

Family food tour

Nick was an amazing guide! Showed us great food spots and had the best recommendations. Everything was delicious!! On top of a food tour it was full of amazing cultural informational as well. Nick was easy to talk with which made it even more enjoyable. Would 100% recommend! We had our three boys (ages 7-16) and they loved it as well!

Highly recommend!

Our guide was Anna Katalin and the five stars totally relate to her. She made our experience unique. We were a group of four, mixed from an age and interests perspective but Anna understood to address everyone very well. I am half Hungarian and growing up at my grandparents I know what good Hungarian cuisine is. She picked very representative dishes, small restaurants or fast food places you would not go to as a normal tourist by just googling it. That and the fun stories on the side, made it special. If you’re looking for a non mainstream but personal touch - this should be your choice. You will learn a bit about Budapest history, culture and cuisine. Enjoy!

Our tour guide was Anna.. a lovely hungarian with years of experience as tour guide and a vast knowledge of the history of Budapest.. Anna was accommodating, nice and had plenty of suggestions for later during our trip.. If you can book your trip with her..!

Excellent Tour

We had such a terrific time on our tour with Andras. He has a great personality and hit if off with my 80+ parents. Our family has a Hungarian background so many dishes tasted were “just like grandma used to make”. He really went out of his way for us. My mom was looking for a particular jam and torte, he said his mom makes a better jam and brought a jar to our hotel the next day along with the tortes we couldn’t find on tour. Talk about above and beyond! Andras is not only a great human being but an excellent tour guide.

Wonderful tour!

My husband and I really enjoyed this private tour. We had Gabor as our guide and he was very knowledgeable of the history, architecture, neighborhoods, culture and cuisine! At the beginning of the tour, Gabor asked us what we were most interested in learning and if there was anything specific we really wanted to try. He catered the tour towards our interests. We started in the central market, tasting local air dried meats, pastries, jams, honey, and palinka. From there we moved to the upstairs stalls and tried traditional fresh baked sausages, pickled vegetables, and stuffed cabbage roll. We walked through different neighborhoods learning about the history and made several more stops along the way trying goulash, a seasonal green bean stew, a wine, two more local liqueurs and last but not least a fresh hot chimney cake! All were very delicious. Gabor gave us many more recommendations of restaurants and bars to try. We had a wonderful time and recommend this for anyone wanting to learn more about the culture and history through traditional foods! Come hungry! You will eat A LOT!

Terrific Food Tour with Nelli!

This food tour was terrific. Nelli was our guide and she was outstanding! We truly enjoyed every minute of it. Nelli provided a beautiful combination of Budapest education and history as well as giving us access to some terrific authentic and delicious food. It was wonderful visiting these places with Nelli who made everything so easy for us. I would HIGHLY recommend this food tour especially if you are able to book Nelli. She is an absolute joy. Not what we were expecting, and overall very let down.

Don’t book after 5 pm. Although our guide was friendly, she was late for our tour so all of our planned stops were closed. Instead we stood in the Central market while the vendors closed and had some biscuits, cheese, meats, and cakes out of her back pack. From there, we walked past a couple of shops and churches that were also closed and ended at a bar that served no food. Overall, at least the tour ended super early so we had time to go somewhere else for dinner. This could have been a lot cooler if we had just gone to the Christmas Markets or any where else that was open who could have served us. We felt like there was a lot of poor planning and a lack of creativity or effort for figuring out other solutions and would not recommend this tour or the timeslot.

Our English speaking tour guide for the Top 10 Tastings of Budapest walking tour was with Tiberiu. Tiberiu not only provide us with a great culinary experience, he also provided us with the history of the food and drinks we tasted, he shared stories about the foods we tasted from his past, as we walked around he informed us about several historical events that helped shaped Hungry and Budapest, and helps us gain an insight into everyday life in Budapest. Great Tour

Great tour with lots of great food and some sightseeing. So glad we did this tour. Beata was an excellent guide!

Disappointing

Zsofia was really lovely and knowledgeable. Unfortunately I don't feel the tour delivered on what was advertised and was not worth the money charged. The areas mentioned were not covered and our food consisted of, 1. A mini coconut sweet and salty bread, 2.cake, 3. Beer, 4. Shots, 5. Sausage and veg in a diner/kebab shop, 6. Chimney cake. I dont feel that this was the 10 tastes of Budapest as advertised.

Loads of history, culture and fun, plus local food and drink!

We really enjoyed the 10 Tastings of Budapest tour. Not only did we get to sample some local specialty foods and drinks, but Tiberiu gave us a fantastic historical and cultural tour! He was a fantastic guide!

Great Food Tour!!

We had a great time on this tour. Emoke was an excellent guide, her insights into the area, the history and the food were really good. The food experience was very memorable. I loved that we experienced so many different types of food and drink. I enjoyed walking through the different streets as well as her insight into the Great Market Hall.

Andras our guide, was pleasant, knowledgeable and concerned about our preferences for this tour. We learned a great deal about the food, people, politice and history of Budapest and Hungry in general.

Great Budapest food tour.

Nelli was knowledgeable and shared historical observations as well information about local foods. Good cooking tips as well. Nelli was a lot of fun. The three hour tour went by quickly. Highly recommend this tour in Budapest.
