Szentendre the Artists Village Half-Day Tour from Budapest

Not worth the price

Really you're paying for the bus ride there. The boat back required no ticket. Very little information provided on the bus ride over. Our tour guide did not seem comfortable and was low energy. The village itself is worth going to, lots of cute shops and great food!

Okay, but...

This tour description seemed perfect for me as I had time constraints and a 4-hour trip seemed perfect. I have visited Hungary a few times and I always wanted to visit Szentendre while I was in Budapest...it seemed convenient and perfect to leave the driving to someone else. The tour was prompt and our Guide, Marta, was lovely. The van was clean and okay but HOT! I don't get bothered by the heat too much but my Husband felt sick from the temperature within the van as we waited for the rest of the tourists to arrive. He was extremely uncomfortable as were other folks on this tour, who were fanning themselves. We relayed this issue to the Guide and the Driver and while they did turn on the van's AC, it was minimal and did not help too much, sadly. Guide Marta was sweet and pointed out sights during our drive to Szentendre. her English was very good. The tour description stated that this tour would be in English but it was quasi-bilingual. While the majority of people on the tour were English-speaking, there were three Italian-speaking women. Marta had to skip from English to Italian and it made the tour seem longer and less engaging because of this. These Women also seemed to take up a lot of Marta's time and I felt they were overbearing and Marta had no choice but to cater to them. OH WELL! Szentendre is lovely but VERY touristy. Personally, I loved it for the photographic aspect. My Husband was a bit bored as were a few other people in our group. The Marzipan Museum was cool and interesting, but the "samples" given were much smaller than the size of half of a sugar cube. I wasn't on this tour to eat marzipan, but don't make that a "selling point" of the tour! All in all, it was okay and a nice short getaway from Budapest for a few hours. I think I would need to research a bit more for the next time.

I felt that the guide was...

I felt that the guide was promoting products from the different shops. I did not feel like I learned anything on this tour.

Nice visit

The small city is very agreeable, beautiful arts and pleasant places to eat and drink. Our guide Kristina was very nice and kind. Explain many things about history for us. I really recommend

Worth the time and expense

Worth the trip but it would have been better if trip were at least 1/2 - 1 hour longer. Difficult to follow guide who had to speak in two different languages, hard to hear in back of van, especially with a strong accent. Drive was nice.

Szentendre day trip

Enjoyed the trip to Szentendre. On the way we passed the Roman ruins. The village is very colorful and full of artisans and other vendors. We shopped at Kovacs Blue dye store. This store was a quilter/sewer's delight. The hand worked fabrics are a rarety in the US. This was worth the trip from Budapest

Definitely recommend this tour.

After spending two days sightseeing in Budapest we decided to take this tour. We thoroughly enjoyed our day. Our guide was Stephen the tall man. He was very knowledgeable and a pleasure to spend time with. The village is very quaint, with many lovely shops and restaurants. The boat ride back was a very pleasant experience. Would definitely recommend taking this tour.

Beautiful

We enjoyed a lovely couple of hours exploring the artists town and relaxing by the river Our guide Dori was lovely and knowledgeable, the only minus was the sound system on.the bus, it was a little quiet.

An incredible experience

We had a wonderful trip along with our guide, Krisztina. We were introduced to the beautiful villages and Hungarian countryside, culture and history. Thank you so much Krisztina for sharing your knowledge and love for your country with us.

A great place to visit

A wonderful place to visit but as our very competent guide was speaking in 2 languages the tour was longer than anticipated, so our free time around the village was shortened.

Half day tour from Budapest

Tour had very little content,just a minivan journey to Szentendre where we left to more or less left to our own devices with little help from the guide and then a short 1hr cruise back to Budapest.The guides English was not that good either and was difficult to understand at times.

Boat trip

I found that one female member of staff not very friendly and quite rude after asking about another drink choice for my husband who does not drink Prosecco. The boat trip was value for money .

Not what we expected

There was no boat involved and no one mentioned anything. my reservation even stated it is a Bus - Boat tour. there was no sampling and we only visited 1 town - not 2. although the town was quaint, we just walked into the one town, but it had a lot of touristy shops. The tour was bot what we expected

Hungarian small town with local products.

Our guide Dorothy was knowledgeable and gave us the time to explore. The price was reasonable. Small quaint town with several local products.

Fine trip halt an hour from Budapest. Great guide - Dorothy. She was really nice and knew a lot about the area.

Afternoon fun outside of Budapest

Fully enjoyed our experience from the van ride to the town, the town itself, and the boat ride back. Our guide, Stephen The Tall Man, was very personable and knowledgeable about the area past and present. He was great at answering questions and as well as sharing his local experiences. We wanted to experience something different outside the city and this tour did not disappoint.

Stay Away

To sum this up, this trip is just a hustle to get you to spend money on the first 4 or 5 shops at drop off. The drive to and from the place is 2hrs combined with traffic. You loose about 45mins at those shops. 15mins at the almond museum which again, they walk you thru the shop so you buy, and the last 45mins they give you time to wonder. The entire village takes about 30mins to walk if you're a slow walker. What really rubbed me the wrong way was the fact that those shops at the entrance of the village are overwhelmingly expensive. I bought a bottle of water for 450. It's 350 5 mins into the city. Shame shame. This company pretty much trying to prey on tourists. Avoid it it's simply a tourist trap you literally pay for. The guide was ok, but there isn't much to explain anyways...

Szentendre And a ride on the river

The visit to the little shops was lovely especially the marzipan shop - Our guide Dorothy was very good and had lots of interesting things to tell us about the place and the boat ride was lovely.

Really really not worth the money

Boat wasn’t running which we half expected. Dorothy our tour guide was very good as was our driver Fernando. Was told it was a half day trip. Left at 2. Arrived at 3. Picked up at 4 and back at the hotel by 4.50. Less than 3 hours for £76!!!! Charged extra for the museum of old cars and things. Cash only!! Pretty village but absolute tourist trap. Cheaper to get a taxi both ways if you really want to go there and peruse at your leisure but you could see all of it in an hour or so.

Great tour

We really do appreciate our tour! Dorothy, our guide, was excellent! She explains very well the different historic facts about the foundation of Budapest that are very interesting! The city of Szentendre was beautiful and peaceful! The meeting point was a little bit difficult to found, but except for that little thing, everything was great!

Good but not great

Beautiful town and wish we had more time to explore. The tour guide was great, but we kept stopping at touristy stores selling magnets and souvenirs. I’d much rather have had the time to walk around and explore the town myself.

Great service

We just completed 4.5 hours Szentendre tour with them. Our guide was Stephen (the Tall Man). Truly a gentleman,and provides great service. Highly recommend him and his company to everyone.

Fantastic half day tour

The tour guide was excellent. She was very friendly & informative. Szentendre is a beautiful village, very pretty to look at. We went to the marzipan museum whilst there & it was pretty amazing. All of the shops located there are really unusual & it was a great experience to get to see it. It was very quiet due to the time of year that it is & the weather wasn't great. I'd say it would be even better in the summer time.

Szentendre Half-Day Tour

We had a lovely private tour with Stephen The Tall Man today, he was most informative and made a great effort to be accommodating. I have reduced mobility and use a scooter, and he was most helpful too. Highly recommendable.

Interessant und sehr informative

On 11.10.2019 we did a private tour through EURAMA QUALITY SIGHTSEEING TOURS to the SZENTENDRE which is a small Baroque town including the Artists village. Our guide STEPHEN "The Tall Man" as he calls himself was really good and knew his job. He was very informative about the tour and open to our various questions that poured in during the whole trip.

Lovely place to visit

The half day trip is just enough to visit this beautiful village. The guide was ok as he showed us around the place. The boat ride back to Budapest was lovely.

Too much to see too little time

Great little place to visit, a must do , lovely cobbled streets with plenty of local shops and restaurants , only not enough time to really enjoy it all . Our tour bus left 30 minutes late and when we arrived we had only one hour and thirty minutes to look around before our boat trip back , we felt rushed no time to look in any museums or have anything to eat . This tour needs to leave at 12.00 instead of 14.00 , our tour guide was very good friendly and informative ,it's just a matter of not enough time to take it all in .

Great and informative tour

A huge thanks to Dorothy our guide for the very informative tour, not just of Szentendre, but also the trip there. Very interesting facts learned about Buda and the bridges. Szentendre is a wonderful place to visit, though I did find the all year round Christmas shop a bit odd :) (yes I bought a decoration).

Fun visit to this little artisans village

Our guide was ok, she gave us some information but we were pretty much on our own to shop at the fun little boutiques and explore the area. The boat ride was relaxing but nothing to really brag about. I enjoyed it more than my adult sons did.

Wonderful

Ingrid our tour leader was very polite knowledgeable and patient, expressing her knowledge in many languages, the town was very quaint and pretty the trip home on the ferry down the Danube was a real treat thanks for the tour

Tourist Trap and Badly Conducted Tour

I had been here 15 years ago and looked forward to this tour to gain more insight. Tour delayed for half hour for a French pair and then their tour guide went on and on and on in French, so we lost in effect a major portion of the tour. The village itself is no longer an artist village but a series of tourist shops. Our nice tour guide was however not a provider of much insight or useful info. The river boat back to Budapest along pleasant wooded riverbanks was too crowded to go on deck away from the hotbox below deck.

Quaint and charming small town.

We very much enjoyed our walk through Szentendre. There are lots of little shops and galleries that offer quite an array of items. We also toured the "Live" museum which was very interesting. We attended a cooking class to learn how to make goulash! Then we were treated to lunch where goulash was served along with an Hungarian red wine. Very fun and different experience for sure!

Great side trip

Arrived at meet up spot on time and was told that the bus wasn't there yet but will be about 15 minutes so I walked around came back boarded the bus and waited about another 40 minutes as some passengers were still expected, I would've liked to have stared on time or within 15 minutes but 1 hour later for people who were falling behind was not fair to those of us on time. So, off to the little town, first stop was a toy museum which I don't recall being on the itinerary and was at an extra cost I think 5 Eu. I wasn't cool with surprises but didn't want to make a big deal about it. The rest of the walking tour was quite nice, cobble stone streets, little shops, waterfront views and historical information along the way. The guide was nice, we stooped at a little cafe for a snack sausage & bread sample, some guest didn't eat so the rest was offered to the eating people (me) very nice since I was hungry. Drinks were available for purchase had a nice refresher on a warm day. After a lovely stroll we were allowed some time on our own and directed to the meet up spot for the boat ride back to town. The guide was nice and offered additional information on things to see as requested. The drop off point was central so you are on your own for getting back to your hotel which was fine since there was still plenty of time to explore more of the city. Overall very pleased.

Gorgeous city

We were there on a gate 1 tour, we had plenty of time to walk the cute cobblestone streets, time to shop at many of the small personal shops. The shop owners were gracious to a fault and the town was as pretty as a picture (no pun intended ).

Great place to visit

Was a neat place to visit with lots of Hungarian made items for sale. The tour guide wasn't the best, but the town was fun to experience and the boat ride back to Budapest was nice. A good break from walking around the city and seeing something different.

The activity was great the tour guide a disaster.

We wanted to see the countryside and had a half day open. We explained this to the hotel the recommended Eurama. Yes were walked through a village that portrayed life under Soviet rule. Nice countryside but the tour guide was the poorest we experienced in 15 days of touring in Europe. Knew very little or explained very little and was more interested in talking to the driver in the local language. Once in the village her focus was trying encourage us to buy goods from her favorite shops. She kept talking about this great sausage shop and led us to believe it was built into the tour. Though the sausage was very good we found ourselves paying for the sausage. At the front end of the trip one of group had avoidable accident. We were looking at historic vehicles on our own while she had wandered off. A woman tried to sit in a side car which was unsafe and fell breaking her wrist. The group jumped into action and one of us had to find the guide. Part of the tour was a return by boat we were dumped out somewhere in Budapest and left to find our own way back to the hotel. After great tours on a Viking river cruise we were spoiled.

It was a nice tour,good guide,relaxing,free time was a bit too short,the boat tour back to Budapest was also nice,we were a small group what I like

This tour was the worst I've ever...

<p>This tour was the worst I've ever been on in over 20 years of international travel. A COMPLETE waste of my time and money. We paid 50 bucks to sit on a bus for around 3 hours to stop at a hill for 5 minutes to take a picture of the river. I'm not kidding. We didn't see the citadel of Visegrad. We didn't see ANYTHING. Then, when we finally got to Szentendre the whole reason we wanted to take the tour we were told we had less than ONE HOUR of free time in the whole town before we had to return to the docks to take the only boat back. Don't waste your day like we did. We found out later that there's a train you can take from Budapest for like 5 bucks to get to this beautiful little hamlet, and the river boat back is public if you want the cruise back. Do that instead!!!</p>

Was very disappointed with...

<p>Was very disappointed with communication from the tour operator. Was waiting at the requested area at my hotel for over an hour, came very early. But apparently, the driver could not see me and left after waiting for 25 minutes. The reception was a very small area, the driver claims to have asked everyone at the reception area - which is an absolute lie! There were only a few of us there.</p>

A nice trip to Szentendre

Beautiful views, a knowledgeable guide, good information, comfortable transportation, a clean transport vehicle, a punctual tour, a nice museum visit, delicious ice creams :)

A cruise on the Danube with a guaranteed change of scenery.

The cruise we took during our vacation was a simply wonderful experience. Starting from the center of Budapest, we had the privilege of discovering the charming little village of Szentendre. The cruise went off without a hitch, offering magnificent views along the way. The picturesque landscapes along the Danube added a touch of magic to this getaway. The crew was professional and attentive to our needs, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable experience. This cruise will remain engraved in our memories as one of the most enchanting moments of our vacation.
