Private Jewish Heritage Tour including Hotel Pickup

Beautiful synagogues, great guide and new knowledge. Recipe for a worthwhile tour!

Our guide, Greta was knowledgeable, enthusiastic and able to answer questions easily. We enjoyed conversing with her and learned how the Jewish community evolved , adapted over the centuries. Greta’s depth of knowledge was evident as we learned more about Hungary’s holocaust history.

Highlight of my trip!

This tour was the highlight of my trip to Budapest -such important history and was glad to have such a knowledgeable guide (Benjamin). Benjamin was amazing - encyclopedic knowledge and lots of great information both historical and contemporary. Many thanks!

Tour guide , Dorian, brings the history to life

Our tour guide brought the information to life and in general made for a most memorable and informative experience. Her knowledge was exceptional. This is an experience not to miss.

Well worth while

Our guide, Benjamin, exceled with his knowledge and the way in which he expressed it. The tour was most fascinating, both visually and by listening. The itinerary cover many aspects of the Jewish area with visits to the inside of Synagogue. very good value for money

Sadly a crap shoot

Is there such a thing as a zero review? Such high hopes for this adventure, a full day immersed in history. Sadly not to be. The guide was a no show. Ok, that's frustrating, and considering all the planning in advance I did to select this tour plus losing a full day of touring, and I am using my words kindly and saying I am not pleased. But add to it I was picked up at my hotel, dropped off in front of the first synagogue without ANY DIRECTION of what comes next. Waiting 5 minutes, 10 minutes, mind you it was 22 degrees outside. 15 minutes, by 20 without anyone showing up; calling them over and over and receiving different answers each time. First was Bejamin, a tall man with brown hair, should be there. I quote "inside or outside" the synagogue. First of all, I didn't have a ticket so no way to get in and see if there was a tall man of that description. Had to call back to get further details, and it wasn't until the 20 minute mark that they shared the guide had been rerouted to another tour group and they were trying to find someone for us. That someone never came. What to do after standing for 20+ minutes in 22 degree weather and having to find an alternative itinerary on the fly???? Purchased my own ticket and went into the synagogue. Called the operator 4 times, then texted with Viator. End result? They refunded me BUT DEDUCTED THE TAXI THEY PICKED ME UP IN. THE TAXI THEY ORDERED. THE TAXI I WOULD NEVER HAVE TAKEN IF NOT IN ANTICIPATION OF MY TOUR. Another note, I communicated with the operator yesterday a few times. If there was any issue they knew where and how to contact me, but they did not. Somehow this is my fault and I am the one who was penalized; me, the customer.

Budapest Jewish quarter a must see!

This was an amazing tour! Our guide Benjamin was a very intelligent and well-spoken student of Jewish history and enriched our lives with his personal family stories. Highly recommended!

Great overview of Jewish Budapest experience

Abel was a great tour guide. Highly recommend. Kept it interesting for parents and two sons, ages 18 and 22.

Unbelievable Tour with Abel in Budapest

Today we went on the Hungarian Koncert tour, Private Jewish Heritage tour with hotel pickup in Budapest. To say Abel was fantastic is an understatement. He knew everything, showed us everything we wanted to see and is such a great young man. I wish every tour we went on had an Abel. Ask for him and you will not be disappointed . Best tour we have been on.

Moving Experience

I booked this tour through Viator. They picked us up at the hotel. The tour lasted approximately 2 hours. Our guide was very knowledgeable. If you are interested in history, what happened to the Jewish community than this tour will not disappoint.

Amazing Jewish Sights - with a Great Tour Guide

Our guide - whose name I unfortunately do not remember - was not originally scheduled to be out guide, but we lucked out. She was a young Jewish woman who grew up in Budapest, as did, amazingly enough, her parents and grandparents. She was a bit soft-spoken (for my 85-year old mother) but very knowledgeable and interested in what she showed us and spoke about. We were able to ask her a lot of questions about modern Jewish life in Budapest as well as how her family managed. The only reason I didn't give this 4 stars was that I had thought the tour was to be about 3.5-4 hours and it was only about 2.5 hours. Not sure if we missed things.

No show

Company that was supposed to pick up at hotel and take us on the tour never showed up and even though we had confirmation for pick up time they continued to claim we didn’t have a pick up time. We are currently waiting for refund to be processed to our account.

Outstanding Piece of History

Our guide, Borsca was amazing. She brought this horrid history home. The synagogue was beautiful. Based on a Christian church and it has an organ. Her knowledge of this history and some of her own gave us so much information. Anyone who tours in Budapest should see this.

We were very glad to have booked the private tour with her, because we were able to ask questions and get information that was specifically tailored to my family's historical background. She seemed to know everyone that worked at each of the places we visited and had great relationships with them, even allowing us to see the Orthodox Synagogue that was supposed to be closed that day. I definitely recommend this tour as there were so many interesting facts - my husband was very intrigued the whole time as well! Great job!</p>

Petra was our tour guide for 4 1/2...

<p>Petra was our tour guide for 4 1/2 hrs. We specifically requested her because of reviews we read about her. Our experience exceeded expectations! We thought the length might be too long especially since we were going to be skipping lunch. Not so. The time flew. We visited all sights with the exception of the childrens' shoes, which is not located in the ghetto area. The tour was an easy stroll, with Petra sharing information throughout. She is an excellent communicator and very well informed. Petra was sensitive to my interest in pausing along the way to take pictures. We visited two synagogues, Doheny and the NeoCon, as well as walked by another where restoration has just begun. Petra clearly has a passion for her work and we highly recommend her. I told Petra that I considered her the Queen of the area since everyone we encountered in the museums and elsewhere knew her and greeted her with a smile. She has some wonderful tips for places to eat in the quarter and we leave it to you to ask her. Please know while we toured with a heavy heart because of family history this visit was especially important to us and Petra sensed that. The tour guide in the Jewish Museum who is an older gentleman was also was very special.</p>

<p>We had a most awesome and knowledgeable young woman named Petra as our guide . Her knowledge of history and that of Judaism was amazing, her attitude friendly, and she paced the tour for my husbands age. She actually took an hour longer because we were so interested in everything. We had been concerned that 4and a half hours might be too long, but it was slow paced, and we could sit down in many of the places while she explained things.We would highly recommend this tour to anyone who is interested in the history of the Jews in Europe and Hungary in particular . <p>Our tour guide, Viktoria, was wonderful. She was very knowledgable and full of information about the buildings and history of the Jewish quarter. We were disappointed however that this tour did not include some Jewish sites such as the shoes on the Danube and the Holocaust museum. When we booked there should have been an option to add these sites on for a charge, and we would have happily done so. We did add them on our own, but would have liked and expected them to be part of this tour. Nonetheless the tour was a good value for the money and gave us a good overview of the Jewish Heritage of Budapest. We would give the guide 5 starts, and are giving 4 because Viator did not have the option for a more inclusive tour.</p>

We were all disappointed after the tour, when we found out Victoria was leaving us, and we were responsible for getting ourselves back to our ship.</p>
