Great half day tour of Budapest wine country

This was a fantastic way to get a small dose of Budapest wineries, and the wines and food were all top notch! Peter was an amazing tour guide as well- so prepared and knowledgeable about the area and the wines.

Péter the great guide

Péter from City & Wine as great. We had a wonderful tour. He took us to 3 smaller and very unique wineries. We met with the wine maker or family members of the winer maker at each of them. Peter was extremely considerate and translated all the wine making process explained by the Hungarian speaking wine maker. Each winery offer a special experience. We would highly recommend Péter and City & Wine.

Awesome experience!

Wow!!! What a wonderful experience! We LOVED it! A short drive into the countryside from Budapest and it was gorgeous! Our peculiar trip went to three family run wineries and we tasted some really nice wines- I was shocked at the quality! The dinner was a treat! Simply go book this one!!!

Lovely wines and people

We enjoyed this tour of quaint wineries and their friendly owners. Our lunch was delicious and so were the wines. The others on our tour were pleasant and made the experience even more pleasant. We were so glad we did this tour

Great wineries, tour guide just OK

We very much enjoyed this tour — the wineries were excellent, and the winemakers were knowledgeable and personable. We did feel that the tour guide missed the mark, as she was quite rude on a few occasions. Our tour start time was delayed due to transportation issues, and unfortunately we were rushed through the final winery. It felt like a disservice to the winemaker, as we weren’t given the opportunity to purchase any wines — we were just herded out and back onto the bus.

An enjoyable afternoon where we met new friends

This was a lovely tour which took us to 3 wineries. Each owner took great pride in their wineries and chose a very nice selection of wine for us to try. It was so nice being invited to the home of the last winery and given a home cooked meal. Lovely afternoon.

Interesting and very enjoyable

The guide was highly knowledgeable and informative. It was good to learn the history of the wine growing region. The wines we sampled were excellent and the company very enjoyable.

Good value for money, a lovely half day away from the city

Lovely wine tour, Julia was the best guide! Good amount of people in the group and was interesting to go to 3 different family owned wineries. Wine samples were very generous amounts and food was also lovely! Would definitely recommend!

Highlight of our vacation.

A definite 10 out of 10. I would recommend this tour to anyone. Our guide was perfect and the wineries were so enjoyable with magnificent views. Great bunch of people on the tour, felt like we had know them forever, Would definitely do this tour again.

Wine Tasting in the countryside of Budapest

This tour was awesome. The three wineries we visited were all charming and good wine. Our tour guide was great. We had a yummy dinner and it was beautiful country we traveled through.

Had a great time

Great guide. Started out a bus full of silent stangers and came back laughing like old friends. Very nice wines. In this time of year perfect for those who prefer white wines.

Wine tour

We had such an enjoyable time on this tour! The guide and the winemakers were very friendly and knowledgeable. The group was small, only 14 people, and we were able to get to know each other and share our experiences. My only suggestion is to be sure to eat something before you go! While the dinner was delicious, we didn’t eat until the last stop! By then we were all pretty toasted!!

Afternoon in Etyek - Charming Wine Tasting

Michael was our guide for this half day wine tour. Our group of 15 or so went by a comfortable small van/bus to the Etyek wine region outside of Budapest. We visited 3 small wineries and sampled the local varietals. We felt that these were not the highest quality wineries but they were charming. We were left to believe that perhaps all wineries in Hungary were like this however we took another trip to Eger the following day and were treated to some larger and more professional facilities. Anyways we had a simple dinner at the last winery which was very good. Michael was OK but could have engaged the customers better. He spend most of the driving time talking to the driver in Hungarian rather loudly.

Fun tour but not worth the cost

Michael was a great tour guide. We were taken to 3 small family-run wineries. The hosts there were all wonderful and gave us samples of the wines they made. I thought the wines were OK, but most of them were white wines and I am primarily a red wine drinker. The last winery was where we had our dinner. The dinner was just so-so. It was wild board with a gravy-type sauce, with barley and a coleslaw-type salad, with a plum cake for dessert. The pickup went very smoothly, and the ride to the winery was great because I loved seeing the Buda countryside. We met some nice people on the tour. It was fun, but not worth the cost.

No frill winery tour

Simple winery tour to 2 home wineries which ended with a lunch at one of the wineries. Winery owners shared their wines and how they were made.

Fantastic tour guide, amazing wines

The tour guide was amazing. She has so much experience with the wine business in this area. It was a joy to listen to her speak about it! The food was not a lot, but delicious. The wines were also really good, we ended up buying five different ones!

Etyek Wines worth trying!

Pick up was on time and Paul our guide was very knowledgeable. Our first tastings at Nada Winery were really good. Owner spent a lot of time explaining process as well as a tour of the cellar. Wines were varied and her sparkling wine was superb. Unfortunately our host at the 2nd winery didn’t speak English and this made it difficult for him to give much detail. His orange wine was very different. Lunch was good although others on the tour may not agree. A good value trip.

An Awesome Evening

If we could give 6 stars we would. Our guide was Juliana and she was wonderful. She was knowledgeable, personable and so easy to chat with. We very quickly felt like we were all just old friends going out to meet her family. Getting out to the countryside and personally interacting with wine makers and having a home cooked meal was top notch. The varietals were all good. Three hours wasn’t enough. If you like wine and want to have a real experience then this excursion is a must.

What a great tour this was. Tour guide Mike was great. People on the tour were so friendly and fun. The wineries were great and the wine and food were amazing. I would highly recommend this to friends, family and colleagues.

Don't miss this tour. Our guide Michael and mini group fabulous. The countryside of Etyek was beautiful and a refreshing change from the city of Budapest. Good wine and a delicious lunch. We had a relaxing drive in the mini bus back to Budapest and dropped off at our chosen location.

Wine Tasting in the country with family

To experience small family wineries, small boutique ranges as good if not better than major corporate ones. The history as well as being treated like family. Peter was our guide and Uncle Lotte our driver, we were family from start to finish. Thanks

Great tour highly recommended

Definitely one of the highlights of our trip. Really interesting commentary on the history of Hungary from tour guide (Vila? unsure of spelling) who was a great speaker; I could have listened to her all day. We visited three different wineries, it was a great opportunity to meet local people as well as get to know fellow travellers. A large amount of wine helps with that! I had been worried there would be "hard sell" tactics, particularly as we travelled with cabin baggage only and couldn't take any back with us in any case - but there was nothing like that. Highly recommended.

Terrific half day wine tasting with dinner

I had a really great time on this trip. Every winery we visited was beautiful and provided delicious and really quite generous wine tastings. The dinner at the last place was also terrific. Our guide, Peter, did a wonderful job giving us an intro to the area and each place we stopped at and looking after the group, especially challenging after the first couple of tastings were completed. I would highly recommend this trip.

Amazing wine village tour

Our tour guide was amazing, we all loved Julianne. The small village was a wonderful place to wine taste!!

Excellent tour very enjoyable and worthwhile.

Our hosts were excellent, the wine tutorial and opportunity to taste was great. The ride through the villages and countryside was very enjoyable. Lunch was tasty and there was plenty of it. Thoroughly recommend.

Wine tour

It was nice to get out of the city for this tour. We were taken to two small wineries, the first being the smallest. The second a little larger, where we had lunch with our wine. Both beautiful in their own respect. Our guide Peter was so knowledgeable. He knew so much about the wine, as well as history of the country. I would definitely recommend this tour.

This was such a fun change of pace tour. The small wineries were amazing. Delicious wines and very intimate settings. Our tour guide was both knowledgeable and fun. I loved getting to see the countryside outside of Budapest. Great tour !

Etyek Wine region is a MUST SEE!

The Etyek Wine region is a must see for those traveling to Budapest. What a wonderful treat. V was an excellent translator along the way. The dinner at the last stop was filling and delicious.

The pride and passion each vineyard had was incredible. Each location was very hospitable and Hungarian wine was a treat and we will look forward to finding more of it on our travels.

Julianna was an outstanding guide. She had just the right balance between information and enjoyment. The wineries we visited were charming and the wine was excellent. The tour met and exceeded our expectations.

Great tour. Juliana was a very warm, friendly, knowledgeable guide. She understands wine making and knows the history of Hungary. The wineries were small with great owners who provided interesting information about their delicious wine. The tour ended with a very nice dinner and more good wine. The icing on the cake was the company of our fellow travelers, just a fun group of people. I highly recommend this tour.

Great experience

Peter was a phenomenal tour guide. He explained everything between the sites and translated for us when necessary. He gave us a lot of insight into the culture of winemaking in the area. The two sites we visited were impressive. The tastings were generous pours:) I am a vegetarian and the accommodations were thoughtful. It was a quick ride to the site through a pretty setting. We booked the 10a and the timing for lunch and returning for a few hours of downtime before going out for dinner/evening was perfect. We spent four days in Budapest and adding this to the other traditional experiences (Buda Castle/Hill, Parliament, Danube cruise, Ruin bars, Central Market) balanced out our trip well.

Lovely introduction to Hungarian wines!

This wine tour was a great introduction to Hungarian wines in the Etyek region. The 3 spot we stopped at where very unique and the hosts were lovely! The dinner at the 3rd stop was also amazing! Highly recommend. We had a nice sing song on the bus on the way back!

Excellent experience and wine tasting

We really enjoyed our tour as the guide was very easy going and informative. We visited two wineries and enjoyed learning about the type of wines in Hungary and how the wineries struggled over the years. The lunch was a traditional Hungarian meal and delicious. Very well done tour

Excellent trip!

Really good fun and very informative. Our guide - Juliana - was just perfect. She looked after us really well. We were a group of mixed ages and nationalities and she made sure that we all had an amazing afternoon. The wineries were all very different from one another - all the wines were delicious and we finished with a lovely home-cooked dinner. Cannot recommend more highly!

Great Wine Adventure

This was a very private and personalized tour. We loved our guide and all of the background that he gave to the wine regions and the wineries we visited. Our group felt welcomed and part of the family at each of the wineries that we visited. So glad we did this!
