My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our food tour with our guide, George! He was very friendly and provided a nice tour and information about Budapest. The food and drink selections were delicious! Great experience!

Very nice afternoon with food and culture, highly recommended

We did the Obuda tour. We are a couple spending a few days in Budapest on holiday, just wanted to chill and have a relaxing afternoon with food and culture. We booked a normal tour but it was just the two of us. Our guide was Zoltan, he is a local in the area and definitely very knowledgeable about Hungary, Budapest and the local district. Initially we spent 10 minutes in the roman coleseum which is right next to the meeting point. We enjoyed it a lot, felt like a hidden gem that tourists normally don’t find. The we had 4 food stops in total which was a really good ratio of walking and eating. The food itself was great, we started from a butcher’s shop with an amazing sausage and progressively continued to fancier and fancier places. Overall it was a very nice way to spend an afternoon and we would highly recommend it to anyone. In particular, I would recommend trying the Obuda tour as those are the places which few tourists would find on their own. Come hungry, it’s a lot of food.

Solid food tour

George was a friendly and informative tour guide. The tour had a good mix of food and info about Hungary. I felt satisfied but not overstuffed and not exhausted from excessive walking either.

Our guide, Zoltan, did a wonderful job. He was funny, knowledgeable band very informative. The food was great!

Great food tour

We had such a great time with George! He was so sweet and took great care of us. He gave us a lot of history, made us feel at home and made the tour so fun. All the food was great Hungarian staples as well. Definitely recommend!

Amazing experience

This was my first time using Secret Food Tours and I was not disappointed. Zoltan was a wonderful guide with lots of enthusiasm and knowledge, and he took us to four separate places where the food was delicious. Make sure to come hungry!

Fabulous tour!

The Secret Food tour with Kiss was a wonderful way to meander around the city and get an insight into its culinary, historical and cultural history. Kiss, was extremely knowledgeable and very generous with his time and insights. He was a delightful young man who clearly loves Budapest. Thank you Kiss for a great tour!

A delicious tour full of history and fun facts!

We had an absolutely wonderful time on our food tour! György/George was our guide, and his knowledge of Budapest's history/details was such a cool addition to the tour (which is also a great way to get geographically acquainted with the Pest side of the city). The food was *incredible* and George gave us cultural context and background for each dish we ate. We had plenty of time to enjoy each stop, the pace was comfortable for my older in-laws, and there were restrooms in the restaurants we stopped at along the way. Honestly, even though the food was amazing, my favorite part was getting insight into the city, its history (both ancient and more recent), and getting to pick up a few Hungarian phrases along the way. 10/10 would recommend to anyone who likes local food and facts!

Great food tour in Budapest

This was a really fun experience with local foods in places it would have been hard for a traveler to find on their own. Zoltan was a awesome guide, full of enthusiasm and knowledge about Hungarian food, culture, and life in Budapest. The tour had several stops, first for Langos, a fried flat bread topped with sour cream and cheese--delicious! Then a cafe for apple strudel, a restaurant for goulash, and another restaurant to sample sausages and cheeses. We'd definitely recommend trying this tour!

Best way to sample Budapest cuisine

Amazing food with a little bit of tourist information mixed in. I love a good tour because you can try signature dishes that you wouldn’t be able to find on your own. As I was touring as a single, I love chatting with other tourists and a food tour is usually very laid back with time to chat. The company on this tour was amazing and interesting. George was knowledge and entertaining. I had an amazing day.

We thoroughly enjoyed our tour, in all ways. Zoltan, our tour guide was awesome. We learned so much about the food, culture, and history of Budapest. He was quite entertaining and informative too with a wonderful sense of humor. I loved the fact he took photos of us (without us asking) with his phone and sent them to us later. That way we didn't have to take selfies with are arm sticking out and showing, and one of us not in the photo. Plus, if you've never been to Budapest it's a good thing to start off with as soon as you arrive as it gives you a good "lay of the land" to know your way around etc. I would highly recommend this tour and him to anyone. It will not disappoint!

Must do - Excellent food and overview of Budapest

Excellent food tour! Zoltan was a very humorous and informative guide, taking us to some off the beaten path gems for delicious Hungarian food. Also gave a nice overview and history of a few of the key sites in Budapest. Highly recommend and would advise doing it early in your visit. His follow up recommendations would have been very helpful if we had not done this tour on our last day there.

We thoroughly enjoyed our food tour in Budapest! The tour included tastings at four different places, that included Langos (my favorite), Goulash & Wine, Strudel & Coffee and Mushroom soup & Wine or Beer. They were very accommodating for those of us who didn’t eat certain types of food! Our guide Zoltan was very knowledgeable and well-traveled. While walking to each Restaurant, Zoltan provided history of the city, pointed out monuments, made suggestions for places to visit and things to do. On top of that, we received a follow up email with what we ate, where we ate it, recipes and tips on places to go! Oh, he took several photos of our 10 person group and sent those! Truly a wonderful experience!!

Wonderful food tour

Wonderful walking food tour with Zoltan and Lazlo. We loved learning more about Hungary while tasting delicious foods including poppy and apple strudel, langos, gnocchi, Hungarian goulash. Perfect half day tour to sample some traditional Hungarian foods.

The Big Food Hungarian surprise!

They were hard to find and I was early. We had desert first not last. The guide was hard to understand. The people in the group were very interesting. The cherry tart desert was delicious. The pizza was unappetizing. No one eat it. No one eat the goulash except me. The main course was a sloppy plate of potatoes and bacon. Too much pork in the Hungarian diet. If you want to see what the Hungarians eat, go. It is authentic Hungarian food. Whether or not you will like it is very debatable. Not many in our group did. But go anyway.

Great food with a great guide

We greatly enjoyed our food tour with Zoltan. His energy, humor, and knowledge of Hungarian history really made our time fly by. The food was excellent, and we were comfortably full by the end.

Our 1st trip to Budapest!

Zoltan was an absolute blast! Very knowledgeable about his city! He made excellent choices on our food Tour? But most of all he made it fun! So wonderful to the little girl on the tour. Excellent Food Tour

Zoltan the guide was easy to understand and was very knowledgeable. He also has a great sense of humor. I would definitely recommend this tour. Also, it was an easy and slow-paced walk.

Great Tour With Zoltan!

Great food and history tour today with Zoltan! I always enjoy food tours when traveling and this was no exception 🤠. We enjoyed six different food items at four restaurants and we added the drink package to experience some Hungarian wine and liqueurs.

So close to being great but lacked some basic essentials for a food tour

Our guide George was very friendly and took us to a lot of good spots, but I wish he had explained some of the foods to us better... we just got random food placed in front of us with minimal explanation. I asked a couple of times what we were eating and the history, and then he offered it up, but the tour could have been so much better if he'd given us those little tit bits up front. Also the tour lasted an hour extra than advertised on Viator, which disrupted our plans a bit, too... we stayed a long time at each place, longer than needed. Saving grace; we met some amazing people on the tour, so we got lots of good chat with the others in the group. Plus the food was tastey enough!

Great tour!

Great guides, both Zoltan and his young apprentice. The food was excellent and the history lessons along the way made it even more enjoyable. I would recommend this tour to anyone!

Fun and delicious foods with history.

George was an amazing guide . He knew the right amount of history. I learned so much . He did an amazing job to accommodate our food allergies and restrictions. He was so friendly and fun to talk to. I would highly recommend the tour as tour limits the number of guests do you can be treated like VIP.

Zoltan is a super star!!

What an AMAZING tour. We got to try a wide variety of hungarian foods, coffee and wine. My husband is a meat eater and I'm a vegetarian and we both had a great experience and left so full! The actual highlight of the tour was our guide Zoltan! He has lived 10,000 lives and his experience and knowledge brought the tour to life. We loved the experience and feel like we walked away with a new friend! We will be cheering for Kinga in the Olympics. And if you're ever in the finger lakes you have friends in Jillian and Anthony!

A must

George was great! Informative and personable. Langosa is my new favorite Hungarian food. We had a very lively, fun group which really adds to the experience. The food stops as well as the historic perspectives really added to our appreciation of Budapest.

Delicious introduction to Budapest

Zoltan was a wonderful guide, both knowledgeable and entertaining. The food was delicious and authentic; we got away from the tourist area. Zoltan explained all the dishes we sampled and also discussed other traditional Hungarian cuisine. Along the way, he gave us insights into Hungary’s history and culture. Perfect introduction to Budapest.

Well balanced history and food tour

This food tour was really good! Savory, sweet, different and the history of the city was just as colorful. Make sure to wear comfy walking shoes as you cover quite a bit of the city. I missed option to choose extra beverages however my husband shared his so we partook in all the flavors. I enjoyed George’s stories of his growing up in the city, where he liked to visit and why plus the changes the city has gone through.

Well worth the money!

Zoltan was an amazing guide. We tried lots of delicious food, but he also took time to tell and show us so much history around the city. It was a great tour and well worth the money. You definitely get to try some great local Dishes!

Wonderful Foodie Tour!!!

Wonderful Food tour with Zoltan!! He was funny, friendly and informative!! The food places were excellent choices! The Goulash soup was a hit, could have had a meal of that! A super food tour of Budapest with more! History, humor and food!

Zoltan was an exceptional tour guide not only for the delicious food that was part of the tour, but for showing us the sights on the Pest side of Budapest. He was very informative as he described the sites as it relates to the history. of Budapest and Hungary. The food was exceptional, generous and varied as we traversed the area. Favorites were the goulash soup and the potato dish. A special surprise was when we were presented two heart cookies for our 50 th anniversary. We were in a group but everyone was given very individual attention.

The traditional foods were all delicious, and portions were generous. The tour was made even more special by hearing Zoltan’s stories about the country and life in Budapest.

Excellent food tour

The food tour was excellent but was more than just a food tour. Our guide Zoltan has a vast knowledge of Hungarian history which he shares along the route of the tour. The food is varied and delicious and we were all full at the end of the tour. We also had coffee, wine and beer at the stops on the tour. Zoltan is funny and friendly and is the an ideal tour host. If you are In Budapest this is a must do experience.

An incredible experience and intro to Budapest

What a fun introduction to Budapest and a great host to teach us about the history of Hungary and its food and drink. I learned a lot in a short time and got to taste a number of great things that were all new to me. I'd recommend the tour for anyone and I'd certainly recommend Zoltan, our awesome host

I can’t recommend this food tour highly enough. Our guide, Zoltan, was knowledgeable not just about the food but also history and architecture. The food was amazing. One piece of advice - don’t eat anything before you go on this tour as it’s enough food for the whole day! Thanks Zoltan - you were wonderful!

Great Guide and Good Food

Our guide George was excellent! We wandered around parts of Budapest that we had not previously been to. For us the highlight was the cherry streudle and Goulash soup. However, although the wines were good, the pours were tiny. It seemed like they were barely a sip. Our tour was 2.5 hours which seemed short especially for the tour price.

Just right, ensure you are hungry though 😉

Informative and easy paced, a lot of food, so ensure you are hungry before you start this Hungarian tour 😉. The tour only stays on the Pest side of Budapest. As it is a walking tour it would not be possible to cover both sides in 3hrs without some kind of transport.

George knows his stuff. Now I’m stuffed!

George picked excellent soots to try the cuisine of Hungary. Come with an appetite! You won’t leave with one. I’d only suggest that he order a greater variety at each place when people are willing to share, as they probably are on a private tour. It’s a tasting party!
