Great tour, great guide (Benjamin)

Benjamin was the perfect guide for this tour. He added personal perspective to the historical information. The synagogue is beautiful, and the guided museum tour helped us understand Jewish traditions and holidays. For those going, be sure to dress appropriately. No bare shoulders, tank tops or short shorts/skirts.

Our guide Benjamin was fantastic, the tour was eye opening, the synagogue was awe inspiring, the memorials were humbling and I would recommend this tour for everyone. Truly the best way to start our trip in Hungary

Very worthwhile

Benjamin was an excellent guide. He is passionate about the synagogue and its history. Liked that he showed us physically the dimensions of the ghetto so we had a vision of what the Jews endured.

First, our guide, Greta, was excellent. She was knowledgeable, personable, responsive, and friendly. She was interested in each of the sttendees and provided personal attention to each of us. The tour was interesting and informative. Greta is knowledgeable about relevant Jewish history and local history. I can't recommend this tour enough!

A must see

Ben our guide is the son of an observant jew did an amazing job of recalling the bitter sweet history of Hungarian jewrey. The structure is amazing and the museum was beautifully laid out.

Just OK visit

Nice to see inside the building, and the tour guide was good. But the tour is not worth the money, the price is crazy, we paid 56e for 2 people and the talk tour lasted 30mins but the rest you do by your self. If I knew what I was receiving for my money I wouldn't have bothered. The st stephen cathedral was only 8e. So why is the synagogue so dear.

Emotional and informative

This was probably our favorite of the 6 tours we did on this trip. Benjamin was so knowledgeable and entertaining and as someone who lives in the Jewish Quarter, really gave us a feel for what it is like to live there. A very emotional and informative tour.

Wonderful full of history

Great Jewish tour of Budapest

Our guide, Dora, gave us an amazing 4 hour grand tour. The time seemed to go by so quickly. She was so informative and good-natured. The tour included many sites and details of the Budapest Jewish community, highly recommended.

Wonderful experience in the Jewish Quarter

Our tour guide Dora was terrific. We especially enjoyed visiting the Grand Synagogue. Our group of 13 blended together well as we experienced the history, both sad and triumphant of the Jewish people in Budapest.

The outside garden memorials/stories/history. Benjamin was so knowledgeable and his love for our culture and his heritage came shining through! He’s smart and fun and has a remarkable capacity to impart information. Could have been on tour with him all day quite happily

Relive Eastern European Jewish history

Ben was extremely knowledgeable, welcoming and sharing his personal family experiences. He had an amazing grasp of history of the region as well as the Jewish community enabling the group to feel life firsthand through his words.

The memorials and the tree of life were the highlights. Our Guide Ben was amazing. He was truly informative.

An okay tour

I did not find that this tour added much to my knowledge of Jewish heritage in Budapest. We spent too much time in the museum attached to the synagogue. I enjoyed visiting the synagogue and its grounds, but could have done that without a guide. That said, our guide, Dora, was very good.

Excellent tour and guide

Firstly our tour would not have been the same without our guide Abel. He was wonderful! Not only was he very knowledgeable and extremely thorough about the details of what we were seeing, you could tell that he was deeply moved and saddened by what he was telling us. Secondly he shared so much information in such a short time but he explained everything very clearly and you walked away with a good understanding of the history of the Jews in Budapest, the horrific treatment of the Jews in Hungary, and the scary times we are living in now. It was a deeply moving tour and experience.

Interactive and Personalized Tour

Benjamin was great. He displayed a vast amount of knowledge of Hungarian Jewish history and was able to give it over in a way that kept everyone entertained. Benjamin also switched up the itinerary on the spot, so we could do things we were more interested in.

We really love touring with Barbie. I just wish that we had spent more time looking inside the museum and the synagogues. She was a wealth of knowledge, however, once she was done talking, we moved on to the next thing. The cake at the end of the tour was nice, but really not necessary. Would have wanted to spend that time seeing the historical aspects of the tour more!

Our guide was full of information and quite engaging but she over talked and had us standing in one spot while she gave a very detailed explanation of what we were about to see.

Our tour guide Ben was amazing!! This tour gives you much insight into the Dohaney Synagogue’s and the Hungarian Jew’s history. The tour was incredibly interactive, complex, and authentic; Ben encourages questions and discussion. Beautiful synagogue and tour!!

The Grand Tour - 10/10!

We attended the grand tour and it was brilliant! So much information to take in and wonderful sights to see. Our host was amazing every step of the way, very knowledgeable, always attentive and answering any questions we had perfectly. 10/10 recommend you do the grand tour and see all the extra sights!

A very real story of the Jewish faith in Budapest

Greta was an exceptional guide, she was obviously very well educated, and had an in-depth and personal knowledge of the Jewish history in Budapest. Her dialogue told a story so that each thing we saw made sense as to how things evolved. We did the 4 hour tour and although 4 hours might seem a lot of time, the interesting stories made the time pass very quickly. The museum was very interesting little addition to the tour, which added to our understanding of the Jewish faith.

Jewish history is Budapest’s history.

A truly memorable experience visiting one of the prettiest places of worship I’ve ever seen. Also to hear the rich and tragic history of Hungarian Jews who have played a major role in the development of Budapest. Highly recommend taking a few hours to do this. Our tour guide Greta was a walking encyclopedia. I hope you get her as your guide.

Great intro to Jewish Budapest

Benjamin shared his personal experiences growing up as a Jew in Budapest and this made it a very personal experience. His command of the English language was excellent and he answered all our questions and engaged us in the tour by asking us questions as well.

Amazing informative and moving

Information on Jewish heritage up to the present day. Memorial garden was very moving. Guide gave her family's history and how she thinks her family survived the Holocaust.

Take The Grand Tour

I'm so glad we did The Grand Tour rather than the regular tour. We got to go into two additional synagogues and walk a little bit longer through the Jewish area, and ended with cake and coffee and a kosher restaurant. Our guide was excellent and we enjoyed talking to her. She was very knowledgeable. Highly recommend.

Tour was excellent. Guide had vast knowledge of Jewish history. Only thing to change would be having guide be identified by maybe holding umbrella for check-in, wasn’t sure where to meet exactly as there were a lot of people around.
