This food tour was just amazing. We started at the central market and moved on to the Jewish quarter. We got to try most of the typical Hungarian foods and learned a lot about how Hungarian people cook and eat as well as some interesting history hits. Nelly is a great guide. I highly recommend her!

Truly a WONDERFUL experience!! I was not too sure what to expect from a "food tour" but Nellie was amazing! We learned so much about the Hungarian culture through food...got to taste some amazing sausage, salami, fruits, honey, goulash and of course, Palinka!!! Great Food Tour of Budapest

We had a great tour with Nelli. She showed us the city of Budapest through a food tour. We had many local favorites, but she also gave us many insights into the culture and history of the area. Nelli is very pationate about food and Budapest and is a great spokesperson for the area.

Extraordinary food tour in Budapest.

Our family was in Budapest for a few days prior to a riverboat cruise. Looking at several tour options we decided to do a food tour/tasting with Nelli. When it comes to food and knowledge of Budapest Nelli is truly an expert. She loves what she does, and it certainly shows in her enthusiasm. As for the food tour we started in the Grand Marketplace walking around and understanding some local traditions. We tasted several items in the Grand Marketplace then went off to a few traditional local cafés to taste additional items. This was one of the highlights of our two-week vacation and this tour should not be missed.

Nelli was a fabulous guide for the food tour. We were able to taste numerous Hungarian dishes as well as learn about Hungarian cuisine and its origins. An amazing experience

There is only one word to describe our food tasting tour with Nelli -AMAZING!! From the moment we met Nelli she made us feel like friends. Her knowledge of the basis of Hungarian cuisine was limitless. She took time to understand us before guiding us through all the basic ingredients that would go into genuine Hungarian dishes. This was followed by both food, wine and Palinka. All finished off with Chimney cake. All of which was done with a huge smile and great enthusiasm. Having been on a food tasting tour with Nelli we can now understand why everybody thinks she is so good. She would be worth a higher rating than excellent, if there was one. To anybody thinking about going food tasting with Nelli, do not hold back. You will find it both enlightening and eye opening.

Fantastic Experience with Nellie

My friends and I took Nellie’s Budapest Food Tour in April 2024. We had a fantastic experience! Nellie took us to many places around Budapest and we tasted fabulous food and saw interesting places. She is passionate about making sure everyone had a great experience and she connected the food to stories about the history of the country. The food from Goulash Soup to Chimney Cakes were very tasty. The best part of the trip was Nellie’s personality and passion. I would recommend this trip to anyone traveling to Budapest.

I highly recommend touring with Nelli !

The best way to see and learn about a city is going on a food tour. Six of us toured with Nelli and had so much fun eating, drinking and learning about the food and culture. We loved the food we had at the market so much that we went back the next day to eat some more. Nelli is warm, friendly, lively and very knowledgeable. I wished we had more time as I would have liked for Nelli to be our tour guide throughout Budapest.

My Friend and I love food tours in the countries we visit and this ranks up at the top. Nelli was absolutely incredible and friendly as soon as we met her. You get so much more then a food tour with her knowlegde and love of Budapest. We walked to multiple spots around the city, none of which are tourist traps, tasted amazing food while getting the history of Budapest, the people and where their food came from. Do yourself a favor and let her help you make dinner reservations...the 2 places we went were amazing, Getto Gulyas was to die for and we would have never known about it. I am super excited to set up zooming cooking classes with her from home to put my authentic hungarian paprika to use and try to recreate some of the delicious food we had in budapest!! Nellie and this tour is a must do while you are in Budapest!! If we had known how great of an experience this was going to be we would have scheduled multiple tours with Nellie!! Hungarian Hospitality at its finest!

Nelli greeted the four of us with a big Hungarian smile just outside the great central market where she promptly oriented us to the customs, tastes and ingredients that most influence Hungarian cuisine. We toured the local area, shopped the paprika vendors, laughed over a beer, toasted to the Hungarian people with shots of palinka, tasted picked vegetables , jams, fruits, sausages, salami and artisanal breads. We enjoyed goulash soup from one of the food stalls in the market …fried breads from a local nearby shop and chimney bread of sugar and walnuts from a street vendor. We left enchanted by Nelli, so appreciative of the Hungarian people, more informed about the culture and completely satiated by the experience!!! Do yourself a favor and book with Nelli. We loved our time In Budapest, but Nelli added just the right flavors to cap it all off!

Really had a great tour, sights, sounds and smells we would never have experienced without Nellie. She is super knowledgeable and friendly, knew many of the various vendors we visited, got us great local food and explained what made the cuisine so unique. The Highlight of our Holiday.

Thank you Nelli for such a great day out. Not only did we Eat and Drink Hungarian. We also learnt a lot about the History of Hungary and Budapest. The tour of the Fővám tér market was amazing - the selection of Foods and products on offer was an eye opener. on the upper floor we ate Chicken Papakha and Gulyás from the Panoráma Ételbár. Then onto the Jewish Quarter where we ate Sausage's with a Local Rose wine at Belvárosi Disznótoros. a short walk across the road for where we ate Langos topped with Sour Cream, Garlic & Cheese plus a Chimney cake from local street vendors. Thoroughly recommend this tour for anyone - young or old that loves food. definitely the highlight of our holiday.

OMG, we have loved every second of our very yummy and informative Food tasting tour with Nelli. We tasted the best Goulash soup ever at the market and everything after that was just fantastic. Nelli is a great and super knowledgeable tour guide and we have learned many valuable things while eating our way through Budapest. We now cannot wait do do an online cooking class with her.

Highlight of our stay in Budapest

We decided to take a custom 6 hour walking tour of Budapest on our first day and a 4 hour Food tasting tour on our second day with Nelli... a decision we did not regret ! Nelli provided a comprehensive background of the city's history and cultural aspects and then we were treated to a unique culinary insight into Hungarian food ! Delicious Food with a Delightful Host

Nelli was a great host! She has a vast knowledge of Hungarian food, and her enthusiasm shows through. And the food was fantastic.(The langos was my favorite!) We would not hesitate to use Nelli's services again. And she has a very likable personality which made the tour all the more enjoyable.

Absolutely fabulous - it was a culinary history lesson!

The Nellicious food tour was absolutely fabulous! Nelli is an amazing tour guide, what sets her apart is she is a wonderful story teller. She didn’t just give you the information, her stories pull you in learning not just about the food but the cultural history along with the how and why behind the food. The market is a great setting to start the food tour - we learned so much from the experience with the opportunity to sample food and shop. There is a large map in the bottom of the market that she used as a visual aid that enhanced the learning experience and understanding of the different regions of Hungary - to include past and present regions. Nelli was very gracious while at the map someone else came up and started talking to her friends about the map. Nelli graciously stepped aside talking to us about the different wines and when they walked away we went back to the map and continued the story. She is a professional in all aspects of her presentation. All of the food was delightful, my husband was not a fan of the fried dough covered with sour cream and cheese. The chimney cake more than satisfied his sweet tooth! We highly recommend this tour!

Sensational insight into Hungarian food and culture with the hugely passionate and inspiring Nelli!

Nelli was so bubbly and passionate about Hungarian food. The communication before, during and after our tour was exceptional! Nelli even gave me the ingredients to make our own goulash. We started the tour at the great market which included an introduction and as we were so hungry we went straight into the food with some goulash soup and some chicken paprikash, with an aperitif of palinka! We then went around different food stalls tasting foods such as sausage, truffle products, jams and honey. Nelli was also very knowledgeable and told us many stories about the history of food in Hungary. After the market we then jumped on a tram which was unexpected and something that was on our to do list in the city, so that was an added bonus. We then made our way to the Jewish quarter for more food tastings of sausage, pickles, langos and chimney cake! You definitely won’t go hungry on this tour! Nelli then took us to a quirky ruins bar that was made of recycled materials and furniture for drinks. This is where the tour ended. The time went so quickly! Nelli was so friendly and we can’t thank her enough for a great insight into Hungarian food and culture. It was fantastic!

Best tour of our entire trip

Nelli gave us a wonderful and delicious tour of Hungarian food, culture and history. Her enthusiasm is contagious and her knowledge is extensive. We spent roughly two hours touring the Great Market Hall where Nelli introduced us to different vendors and we enjoyed a variety of samples of everything from salami to lavender tea. Of course we had some delicious authentic Hungarian goulash. We then took a tram to the Jewish Quarter and had the best sausage, langos and chimney cakes. This is more than just a food tour, it's an introduction to an entire country and its people.

A Tour of Tradition and Tasty Indulgences

My husband and I had the best time on the Nellicious Travels Food Tour of Budapest. We learned of the history of Hungary while learning about the many traditions and favorites of the Hungarian people. Learning the history of Hungarian food.

Nelli was a fantastic host on our Budapest food tour. Her knowledge of the history of Hungary and how that has impacted the food in the region was exactly what we were looking for. Most of the tour occurred in the Central Market which was perfect for our group as one of us had some difficulty walking. We did venture outside to several other stops also, and thoroughly enjoyed the food choices. She also provided us with an interesting side journey through one of the several “ruin” bars found in Budapest. I highly recommend this trip.

We booked this food tour with Nelli for our first afternoon in Budapest. It was my husband, our college-aged children, and one of their friends. We thoroughly enjoyed it, and learned so much from Nelli about Budapest, Hungarian culture and history, and the richness of Hungarian food and related traditions. It really set us up for success during the rest of our time in Budapest because we had a much better sense of where we wanted to eat and what we wanted to order.
