When We entered the Dohany Synagogue I was blown away by its beauty and opulence The guide was amazing, I learnt so much and he made it so interesting and fun, I could not recommend it more strongly.

Informative tour about hungarian jewish and the synagogues

A good way to learn about Hungarian Jewish, the synagogues and the neiborhood. Our guide Mickey is very knowledgeable and considerate for people who do not fimilar with the jewish culture. The great synagogue and the Rumbach street synagogue are both beautiful (in different construction styles) and well preserved. Definitely worth the time and money.

A real Hungarian Jewish history exprrience

The guide told family stories that made all of the Jewish experiences seem real. He gave us full attention even though there were only 3 of us.

A well organized small tour of the ghetto and sinagogue

Our guide Milan was very knowledgeable of the Hungary culture and and also about the jewish culture. He was jewish too. The main sinagogue was outstanding. Worth every second of this tour. Walking with Milan in the streets of the jewish ghetto was also fun. Totally recommend it!

Powerful and Professional Tour

Excellent guide for an extremely powerful visit to the Jewish quarter. Guide was knowledgeable and patient and very attentive.

Really expensive entrance price for the experience.

Nice, but so many other houses of worship were just as nice or better. The really disappointing thing was to learn how much we had paired for the entrance ticket.

Stunning synagogue

Having seen the outside on a Saturday when it was closed meant I had to go back the next day. It was the most beautiful synagogue I have ever been into, although the gardens told a very different story of the World War Two tragedy. It was beautifully laid out and included a poignant willow tree in remembrance.

Informative, eye opening tour

The tour was great. Our guide was a member of the local Jewish community, who introduced to us three synagogues of different styles, from the traditional Orthodox to untraditional Neolog. The buildings and interior designs were eye opening for someone who has never been in a synagogue before. There were many stories behind these synagogues, and we understood how Jewish people have gone through the years. Our guide also gave us a brief review of Hungarian history, making the trip truly informative.

Although my tour was cancelled due to the illness of the tour guide, Viator was great. They offered a refund or a ticket that I could use on my own. I opted for the ticket and was able to get a free tour of the synagogue and memorial park. I was very pleased with their service.

Vey good tour

The guide was great!! Your good. The greeter was right where he should be and on time. The facilities were very good. Tour was informative.

Extremely disappointed by your guide

Synagogues, surrounds and ghetto street sights were well worth visiting. Cemetery and Memorials at Doheny synagogue were memorable and heartbreaking. For the most part, however, we lost the benefit of a guided tour because our tour guide Mickey provided some interesting and useful information but overall he spoke too quietly, in a monotone, his explanations were wordy and rambling, and he didn’t have control of the group and continued to answer repetitive questions. He turned a scheduled 1 -1/2 hour tour into a 2- 1/2 hour tour, which caused our foursome to lose interest early on.

A New Experience

Check the opening times, any Jewish holidays and get there early as it's a popular attraction. You'll be expected to walk through a security gate and have your bags checked. If you turn up in vesty tops and short shorts, don't worry... you won't be turned away. Instead, you'll be kitted out in a disposable robe/theatre gown type outfit so you can still enjoy the tour. If you're interested in joining the guided tours, look out for the flag (of the country) of your choice, at the end of the pews in the main worship area. You can join one that has started or wait for one begin. You can also opt to upgrade your ticket to a "Jewish Heritage Guided Tour" where you can visit four synagogues in the local area. There isn't an awful lot to see or do and I think the entrance fee of £20 per person, is quite expensive.

Important place to visit in Budapest

Tour was the right amount of time and well done. However, looking back at it, I would definitely make different recommendations for others. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and explained a lot about Jewish history in hungry for the centuries before and the time since world war two. The temple itself is not much to tour as you mostly sit there and listen to the guide and then walk around the main sanctuary a little. The garden and the area behind the temple is incredible along with the memorial to holocaust victims. Having the guy explain all of the items in these areas was very helpful. However, the Jewish ghetto part of the tour is disappointing compared to what is expected. It is easy enough for you to visit the Lutz statue on your own. The Jewish ghetto is not much of a ghetto. It’s the area where Jews lived, but there is nothing very Jewish about it, especially compared to other European cities. The second temple on the tour is interesting, but is not used as a temple any longer and it’s just an event space. It is nice to see, but can also be done on your own. The upper floor has displays that explain the synagogue and its history.

Amazing Synagogue and Jewish History

This was a very interesting and informative tour. It was very well organized. Our guide provided some good Judaism 101. The Great Synagogue has magnificent architecture unlike anything in the US. Rombach and Kezinsky were beautiful as well. My only complaint is we didn't have enough time to visit the Jewish Muaeum

Very worthwhile!

This tour was amazing, an eye-opener, interesting, but sad WWII stories among others; it was indeed a wonder-filled experience. And there is Chris, our guide, with good sense of humor, enthusiastic & compassionate. He was concerned that he might not come across clear and capitavating enough for his group. He should NOT worry; he is an excellent guide in my books!

Impressive Sinagogue in a vibrant jewish community

Is incredible that huge building managed to survive WWII and the communism. Is beautiful outside and impressive inside. Also have a museum and old graves from ghetto massacres. Is amazing to see a vibrant jewish community there.

Dohany great Synagogue

very interesting tour Our guide was fantastic ! ( sorry cant remember her name ) She had so much knowledge about the synagogue as she was Jewish and her family had experienced the atrocities of WW11 She also shared the current political and religious climate in Hungary so insightful and the buildings were stunning

Very interesting with an important history

Andres was a great tour guide and provided great detail and background of the synagogue. There was a rich history and an impressive building. There wasn’t a tour of the ghetto but worth the visit.
